If you've visited Nigeria and travelled around out of Lagos, you would know that the majority of Nigerians cannot speak English fluently or properly, not even in the 'richer' south. The languages that are used most often are the native languages, even in English classes in state schools you may here native languages being used. There is no system to replace, rather, it is a question of how these languages can be promoted to official use in official situations so that native people who will never meet a foreigner for a job can understand what is written on their street signs, constitution, courts, ect. This is not how to make English disappear.ah I see your point now. I thought you are trying to get rid of english. then I would say that is a very wishful thinking. |
congratulations to him. I wish him all the best with the UN the man had become a political hostage in his own country for attempting to fight corruption. he has joined the ranks of people like wole soyinka, achebe that are all serving and contributing to foreign institutions because they are not welcome in their own home country Nigeria will never learn. we reject the good and embrace the bad leaders. |
^ rotflmao @james bond. don't let him come back to lash at you for misspelling odemigie. is that even an igbo name or a south south name? lol |
Justcash:ouch i'm sorry o. i was just indulging you since you brought the topic of your angels, barcadi and singaporean hotel mansions up to the thread.
O So how is Bacardi again? Shouldnt you be swimming with your sweethart? Abi are we on NL more entertaining?
no mind the guy. next he will start talking about his fleet of Lamborghini and diamond mines in SA. what is this topic about again? oh right. yoruba people ![]() |
Justcash:right. keep rubbing it in ![]() so how old are u again? do you have a mistress? so what do you mean by "love and sex"? ![]() |
Contrary to what you think, I am so cool over here. Presently with a bottle of Bacardi, relaxing beside my hotel's pool, watching my angel swim while contributing to this forum. I am presently in Singapore from Naija election hustles. It is 11:25 am here. If you were me, will you be bothered about anything?so what do u do for a living? yahooze? polititician? spare business?. . . u dey enjoy sha. but pls slow down on the Bacardi abeg. what is d alcohol content? too much multi-tasking is certainly bad for you. how is singapore? |
Obiagu1:plz go and sit down abeg. obviously you didn't read these parts of his posts: Justcash: True. Yet we write "YORUBA" properly. |
lol. that's lovely totally agree with you. imagine some of these men who believe in beating up women. how ridiculous it is. it's difficult not not to comment on that. i'm pretty sure I also differ from you on some issues. but like you say,at the end of the day it's all about standing by your principles and moral values. |
Even some Jews say "Ibo".
girl, you're bad. ![]() |
oh ok. he must be very proud and will be blushing to see ur post lol |
Justcash:ok I see. it was meant to be a funny joke. anyway, I think I know where the problem lays. the spelling error is correlated to the pronounciation error IMO. so try to solve the pronouciation error (among yourselves) and the rest will fall into place. like I said, most igbos I know call themselves ibo (in terms of pronunciation). I also have a feeling that this has to do with some fragmentation within igbo society. sometimes, I don't even know who's igbo and who's not. today, goodluck jonathan is claimed as igbo. tomorrow he is niger deltan. I think you guys should figure things out among yourselves, come to a concensus and come back to us with a final decision on how you want us to pronounce your name/ identify you. Trust me there is a lot of confusion about Igbo versus Ibo. I was taught in school to use Ibo, then I come on NL and people jump on me.yeah I have a feeling they are confused among themselves and need to solve that first before coming to us. |
lol it's supposed to be racist. kinda like fetishism, objectification etc you sure are hilarious I imagine him as a puppy lol |
Justcash:lion scratches? what's that supposed to mean? I digress, so do you want to be called igbo or ibo? I'm talking about pronunciation here because most igbos I know say "ibo" and here you are correcting us that it's pronounced "igbo". plz make up ur mind and let us know. |
I love your post in general but this sounds so wrong: " everyday I look at his cultured domesticated yoruba face" since when did we become objects of exoticization for foreigners? lol |
beejaei:like they say, birds of d same feathers flock together. i'm starting to question if you deserve a kind and smart woman going by my interactions with you so far. joking but seriously, why not move out from among bimbos and the sex-starved? |
Justcash:I don't have any difficulty pronouncing the gb. I just didn't realize it was pronounced that way. even my igbo friends pronounce it as ibo. I can positively say that I rarely hear igbo being pronounced with gb. even from igbos themselves! or maybe they say it very subtly that I don't hear it? and please ignore the buffoon |
ignore that one. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-652390.0.html Justcash:I always spell it as igbo but I pronounce it as ibo. I thought it was pronounced ibo I think this is where the confusion comes from. d disparity between spelling and pronunciation. |
Justcash:are you trying to say that igbo is not pronounced ibo? ![]() to God, i didn't know that. to be honest, most yorubas don't care much if you or white people misspell it as "yorooba". because we assume that it's a honest mistake. at most, we will correct it. but really nothing to be unnerving yourself about. |
beejaei:of course I do ![]() Men do the toughest jobs, and over 90% of workplace deaths are of men. instead of complaining about a tough job, give it to a woman. she will take it from you without batting an eyelid!! anyway though, I kinda feel some of you guys' pain but seriously, you need to forget your ego. men and women are becoming increasingly on an equal footing. women are taking advantage of their newly found opportunity while d men are slacking. ex. men don't want to become nurses or teachers because it's a woman's job but a woman will jump at a chance to do a "man's job" |
beejaei:it's ok. i'm just competing with you since your own mouth sef was sharpened by gillette razor. nobody said women are allowed to hit men. nobody should be hitting anybody. men or women the big deal about men hitting women comes from the fact that 95% of the time, it's men who hit women. it's based on the statistical evidence. |
That's how their names sound in Igbo.^ that is funny that you mentioned this because I notice that most igbos pronounce yoruba as Yoruba. is that out of spite? lol |
Yet, when they are corrected, they continue to do it. Is that spite?
maybe they are slow learners. can you give me examples of these posters that do this after being corrected? post d link. |
beejaei:men are second class citizen in Nigeria? are you high or you live in the bush? ![]() |
igbo is pronounced ibo hence the confusion. TNUBU4LIFE:exactly. I don't think anyone is doing it out of spite. |
ogugua88:LIES!!! i drink water too. u better fess up |
beejaei:oloshi. what if I neither have a mother nor a daughter. so what gives? anyways you get the point. stop d violence against women. http://www.afrol.com/articles/16471 http://www.un.org/ecosocdev/geninfo/afrec/subjindx/142wm2.htm |
aminalib:the rule only applies if it's the husband that's cheating. |
ogugua88, you really are stunning. what's your hair secret? your skin secret? your smile secret? your everything secret? lol i'm serious ![]() |
beejaei:yes you can fall in love with the idea of someone but that would be a very unfulfilling relationship. it's called limerance or crush. not really the best kind of love for you, you should cultivate a friendship with a smart and kind woman and over time, if it's meant to be, you will grow to appreciate her physical appearance or at least the appearance won't matter anymore. true talk that happened to me. do this in real life. definitely not online ![]() one way is to stop surrounding yourself with the wrong people and start surrounding yourself with the right people |
beejaei:you are certainly a product of a rap.e case.
I think a lot of folks are assuming that some men are saying that it is OK to hit a woman in any situation. No, that is not what we are saying; no matter how much a woman verbally provokes me, as long as she is using her words, not her hands, I have absolutely no reason to hit her. But if she lays one on me like that lady in the video and expects me to be a gentleman, then she is mistaken. A lot of people deserve to be slapped because they run their mouths too much; nevertheless, provocation or rudeness or insults are not a good rationale for hitting someone.
true talk. unfortunately, most naija guys on here actually beat women as "self defense from verbal abuse" I use quotation marks because a foolish poster on here actually said that!! |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nsibidi ^this is supposed to be more indigenous igbo writing. |
