As for Pres-elect, like Montelik me sef I don't want to boil stone cheesy ...your replies are what they are - liberal talking points & catch phrases that are ill-thought out and don't stand up to scrutiny - full of hot air & not much else. But since you don't want a 'debate' make I leave you to drink your palm-wine kool-aid.

Politics is not my cup of garri but things aint looking good for Obama. Its not like he has not disappointed (been a bit reckless with spending) but with a largely republican congress it was always going to be a case of fighting with one hand tied to your back. What the run to these elections have shown me thus far however is that Racism can never die it can only multiply! I'm not convinced that Romney with the mess Bush left behind would have done better and even the RepubliKKKans like my friends call em deep down know this at no point in his campaign has he convinced anyone that he can actually do better if elected!
Well, he will be re-elected not because he deserves a 2nd term,, but because he's running against a weak opponent who can't even inspire members of his own party to rally up for him.

#2 of your paragraph...ahn ahn not true now. Obama had a supermajority in congress & a majority in the lower house during the first 2 years - he could've even passed a marijuana reform if he wanted. Besides, the excuse of "the republicans didn't let me" is not good enough for a commander in chief who's supposed to command respect & demand results and find a way to get things done & who ran on a platform of 'bringing the country together'...

running a diverse country like the USA no be beans, and he chose to run for the job along with all the complexities & challenges. We must demand results! not excuses. Excuses are for wussies like my good friend here Pres-elect smiley

^nice post MBJ.

kunlery911,
5hrs is really not enough time to do anything. Disembarking/embarking alone (customs, immigration, luggages, navigating the airport etc) will take close to 2hrs total, not to mention ~1hr each way to get from the airport to the tower & back. And as MBJ said, there's usually a long queue to go up the tower.

I suppose if you were really really bent on seeing the tower, it is possible, but it'll be very tight & you'll have to rush. All the best.

nakash: I am now quitting from posting here. My reason for this is due to the frustrations I have faced since I got my PhD in world studies, I have faced problems such as Being banned by big mac apologist, having my threads sent over to the Islam section where I cant post since i am banned. Anyway as a moral person I will let Islam win over sanity. Dear Jesoul please ban this my handle from ever posting on this forum. You have capitulated to Islamic terrorists to make sure Islam is never criticised. You are a coward who has succumbed to Islam. All along I wanted to shame Islam, read through their weak justification of their faith and their desperate lies. Please ban nakash. I know a few will be happy including you. Ciao, Adios Bye . Lets wait for the Khalifa and see where it takes the modern world. I will be in Egypt for the next 3 months consulting with them salafi on how to grow a free press and secure individual freedoms.
Congratulations on your pHD - but that doesn't give you a license to break the rules. And yes everyone is biased towards islam including myself - the christian mod.

I simply asked you to follow the forum rules to post islam threads in the proper section, you refused creating topics over & over here (everyone can check your profile and see how many I had to move). I should've banned you for your repeat offense but I sympathized with your ban from their section. I replied to you in detail & told you you could open a new ID and follow their rules if you liked & still wanted to post in their section, you didn't reply me. I left one of your threads open here and specifically told you I'd leave it open here until the admin moved it, did I get a thanks for breaking NL rules for you? no, instead I get this. Ahh the thankless job that is the mods...

What else did you want from me? A hug? okay here's one smiley.

Let me assure you there are no sacred cows in the religion section. The 'lateness' of our action was only due to we not being online to catch it and nothing else. Posters should also not forget there's a thread on top the page to report posts asap in the event mods don't see it right away. Cheers friends.
Christianity EtcRe: Invitation To A Bible-based Discussion On The Tithing Ordinance & Christianity by JeSoul(f): 9:57pm On Sep 24, 2012
Pastor Kun: The report at last grin

Well the program held as scheduled even though i arrived late due to pressing business issues. The program was well attended with about 25-30 people in attendance and it lasted for about five hours. The program was divided into three sections; First was a very detailed exposition into the history and origins of biblical tithing and why God instituted it for the Jews, a detailed analysis of church tithing today and the disconnect between it and the one instituted in the bible, an analysis of Abraham's tithe which is used to justify tithes in churches today and the glaring disconect between it and what is preached in church today. furthermore more we were taught that as christians we are not under the law and we are not bound to keep jewish laws. More importantly we were warned that christians trying to keep aspects of the law are in danger of loosing their salvation as they are demonstrating they don't have enough faith in christ as expressed by Paul in Galatians 3:10 and Galatians 5:1-4. Since i was late for the program i missed out on the ealier parts but this i can say is the summary of what was taught to us there and of course this section was handled by Petres007 very nicely dressed in a very smart suit like a big time prosperity preacher. grin

The second part was a discussion forum, we were divided into two groups were attendees were able to discuss and and ask questions on the subject matter, in the group i was in most people agreed and understood that there was a major disconnect between tithing today and what obtained in the bible however we still had the "my pastor said" crowd who were finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact that their pastors had led them astray. At this point i decided to take charge of the discussion and dug into my rich wink repertoire of the subject matter in explaining to and convincing those would still had doubts about the subject matter. I dug basically into to church history and how tithing came to be practised in the church with the fianlly assertion that monetary tithing from income started in America less than 150 years ago so it is clearly a man made doctrine derived from twisting outdated biblcal doctrines that are not applicable to christians in the first instance. By the end of the discussion forum those who had sympathy for the tithe doctrine were dumbfounded and very quiet. One could easily tell that they had been touched by what was revealed to them and they would be having second thoughts on this false doctrine.

The final part was a question and answer forum which was handled by another co ordinator. At the end of the forum it was established that the tithing doctrine was very dangerous to christianity as it is the pillar on which several other false doctrines ravaging the church today are built. It is also the cornerstone of the prosperity gospel which is clearly inspired by the devil himself to distract christians from the true gospel of christ. It was also established that as christians we have to contend for the faith and not tolerate those adding 'little' lies to the gospel as a drop of poison is enough to poison a whole glass of water. In all it went very well and a good number of people were definitely delivered from the yoke of tithing placed on their lives by mere men.

@Petres007

You may wish to make some inputs as i came late and missed out on some parts of the program.
Great, thanks! I'm glad you all got to dive into the bible & church history. I wish there was a recording for the rest of us to see. Maybe agent 007 can record it next time smiley.

Snr brother Image how body now? smiley you're chiding uncle Kunle & agent 007 about the # of people...you should know better now. Where 2 or 3 are gathered. Plus its not the quantity of people there but rather the quality. One person can effect a change in a thousand, whereas a thousand can come, but yet no change in a single one - we see that everyday in naija - masses go to church almost daily but no change in the morality of the nation.

All over the castle, there were all kinds scripture carved on the walls, there was even a church right in the middle of the courtyard. As I fumed in my soul, I wondered how those animals could've used the bible to justify their evil. Same as you just stated above - it comes down to individual interpretation.
@JeS, Its not about Romney specifically and his glorious gaffes grin ; whether it is Newt or Santorum, the repubs are all the same. Whatever Mitt says or does is to a large extent, indicative of the party's ideology and plans as a whole (Let the rich get richer while the poor stays poor).
Common now Kay, you know this is not true.

So the issue you have with Obama and the Dems is that of welfare? I don't support 100% free-loading by full-time freeloaders (ie: people who sit back, relax and wait for the freebies to land on their laps) but there are some hard-working people who genuinely need government help in one form or the other (healthcare, lower tuition or food stamps).
... and that is what annoys me even more. I have seen people in genuine need of help but cannot get it because the system is bogged down with these freeloaders - and the left always seems to want to protect them by lumping them all into one simplistic category of "the poor" - such that when the right criticizes it, they then accuse them of not 'caring about the poor'.

Either way, you can't run from parting with that part of your money because if it's not deducted from your paycheck as payroll tax for welfare or social security, you pay it in income tax (which the repubs plan to raise by the way) to service the deficit while the rich ones get cuts and pay far less. Unless of course, you're part of the 1% (who knows). cheesy
Another one that's not true but lets leave that aside smiley ....I have no problem paying taxes, that is my civic duty. I have a problem paying taxes that goes into subsidizing laziness and perpetual irresponsibility. Chikena.

dayokanu: OK. I agree with you.

The thing about Romney is that a lot of stereotypes are sticking to him stringly

He is a flip-flopper - We have over 6 major issues where he would claim he "Mis-spoke", "He was misquoted", "He was wrong at that time", "I didn't have the right information" etc.

2. He is disconnected - No mention of Afghan and Iraq during his RNC, the other gaffe about Egypt and Libya, The London Error

3. He is a ruthless businessman with no Human feeling- Remember Rick Perry's "Vulture capitalism", His "I don't care about the poor" lately the 47% statement, "Leave Detroit to die"

With the state of the economy, the rise of the tea Party, Unemployment numbers, Strained relations with Israel etc Obama shouldn't even be an issue this election.

But Romney is so tough a sell that he is making the job of his campaign managers extremely hard and his penchant for ill-thought statements.

Now the debates are coming and we know unlike Newt debates aren't his strongest Points and someone like Obama would eat him for dinner in any debates. His hopes should be to pray for any catastrophe in the next 6weeks.

Where is TayoD, I would be interested in his contributions on this too. Maybe a new thread would be the best idea
I'd like to defend Romney just to balance the scales but you're making it difficult lol. I don't disagree with much of your criticism, he is truly a tough sell and many of the Tea Party movement have even sworn not to vote for him. The debates will tell us so much more, lets wait and see...I don't think Obama will blow him out of the water, it will be interesting.

This year, Americans will decide whether to return to the Bush policies or to try the clintonian economics. Na dem sabi. Na look I de look dem.
It was so bad they won't even mention Bush in their convention while democrats display Clinton at random. The difference is clear. If the tax cut for the rich policies of bush was so good why ain't they parading little George around the way the dems ate parading billy the dude?

Why are the republicans trying to stifle voting rights? Instead of trying to win over the Latinos and minorities. This is how the devil operates in the spirit world cool (na me talk am). If he can't get xtians to worship him, he stops them from worshiping the true God.

tbaba1234: The anger in the muslim world is not from just cartoons and videos, it is from decades of oppression and humiliation. This episode gives people the avenue to let out some of the frustration in ways that are not so desirable.
You're probably right. At the same time its unfortunate they don't direct some of their frustration at their own leaders. The west is not 100% responsible for the sad state of the majority of muslim countries. When acid is poured on a 3rd wife or a 12yr old is married off or someone's hand is cut off for stealing or an 'adulterer' is beheaded is it also the west that did it?

Palestine has been occupied for over 60 years. A few hours back, Israel dumped bombs in gaza and this week, afghan women were killed fetching wood... What do you want to tell the families of the killed and those kicked out their homes? why would there not be anger? When there is retaliation, you say these muslims have started again.... forgetting that it works both ways. Have you ever been kicked out of your home or have a relative killed senselessly? You will shocked at the kinds of emotions that will bring about....
Each side has their own story and each side tries to portray themselves as victims - the bottomline is both sides are guilty of crimes towards the other.

^but this is a digression, the part of your post I wanted to respond to is this:
The freedom of speech argument is inherently flawed. Absolute freedom of speech is a myth.It does not exist.

Drawing of degrading cartoons and movies of the prophet or any other prophet do invoke feelings amongst muslims. It is the kind of cynicism that unfortunately exists in our society. Nothing is held as sacred. Some muslims overreact, but most people will if their mother or father was insulted. Like i said, respect for other people's traditions is an important value. It's a big place, we can all get along.

Movies or cartoons by members of dominant communities vilifying the religion of minority groups that are targets of racism are just a manifestation of oppression and incitation to racial hatred. There is a reason why many countries have laws against hate speech. Can you write a op--ed in the new york times using words like "ni__ga" or other racist slurs? Of course not, so there is a balance between freedom of speech and what is socially acceptable.

They project a stereotype on a minority in a society, a stereotype that makes them susceptible to hate crimes. People get fired from media companies for insulting jews for instance, rick sanchez of cnn was fired for antisemitic comments. Why? there were not socially acceptable. Helen thomas, a veteran white house reporter lost everything because she simply said that the jews in israel should go back to europe. Why? Because these comments were considered socially unacceptable in the society where they lived: America.

There is no such thing as absolute freedom of speech... It is a recipe for chaos,.. People need to respect social barriers particularly for minority groups...
First of all you need to seperate issues clearly and not lump it all into one category.

1. Each sovereign country has the right to declare unto themselves what is/is not acceptable in their society. American law has no jurisdiction on Pakistani soil and vice versa. There is no universal code of conduct we all follow and with good reason - every society is different, and assigns varying degrees of importance to various issues.
It may be illegal/immoral to denigrate your prophet in Libya, but it is NOT in America. Simple. And you cannot project your own idea of morality 5000miles away and demand others follow your own beliefs.

2. You are right freedom of speech is not necessarily a license to say what you want without consequence. But there is a stark difference between firing someone (american way of showing disapproval) and taking someone's life (Libyan way of showing disapproval). The consequence is drastically different. One goes about it in a civilized way that discourages others from doing the same - the other is, well, uncivilized that causes others to further hate you.

A muslim cannot even insult the idol of an idol worshipper because it is forbidden in Islam... so while muslims are supposed to respect the religious values of others, People under the guise of freedom of speech violate everything held sacred by muslims.

The reaction should be more thought out, more measured but it is difficult to do that with all the emotions flying around.....
Again, it is commendable muslims choose to 'respect' other religions (although you deny that 'respect' when they exhibit violence towards others), but you cannot expect others to hold the same beliefs as you do. There are atheists who don't believe in any faith, and we all reserve the right to hold profane that which another might deem sacred - and not have to be killed for it.

AjanleKoko: I think the Western nations need to curtail such offensive comments.
Not only do they have diplomatic relations with Moslem countries, they also have a lot of Moslem citizens and immigrants.

We can go on about free speech and Moslem aggression, but the fact is there is a problem. If Moslems are willing to kill and die rather than let their prophet be blasphemed, then we have a problem. The backlash will always be there, just like the US found out in Libya. Why put your overseas people at risk in the name of free speech? Why allow reckless individuals to jeopardize world peace, all in the name of free speech? Not logical if you ask me.

It's some sort of subtle bigotry, if you ask me. After all, people are prosecuted for racism in the UK. Why can't people be prosecuted for making offensive comments about other cultures and beliefs?
But you cannot have your cake and eat it. You cannot have free speech and then go ahead and declare certain speech off limits. The vast majority of the 'west' does frown upon these kinds of inciting comments, but we have chosen to respect their 'right' to say it.

It is true the backlash will probably always be there, but my question is who truly loses if the French, US, German etc etc close their embassies in muslim countries due to their incessant riots? I guarantee you if the US embassy in Egypt or Libya closes and never re-opens, Obama & every other American will not loose a second of sleep.

Those rioting are shooting themselves in the foot as embassy closures affect them 1000% more than the western country.

dayokanu: When its election time you cant dissociate the issues from the person. Thats why a known child molester would not be allowed to run a day care even if he has all the paper qualifications

Romney is a businessman and he thinks like America is a business you do whatever needs to be done at the moment to get Votes(Profits)

In front of the few very rich donors, Its better to Tell them that they carry the burden of the poor and they would be given a tax break to win their support

Just like he has been caught pants down on several issues Like Abortion, Gay rights, Immigration and even foreign Policy. Romney is a guy that says whatever to get results thus his own convictions are not even clear.

That was why it was difficult for him to win the republican primaries even with the very mediocre(poor actually) contestants

Imagine Santorum dragging with Romney with less than 5% of Romneys finances. Simply because the Republican base are not convinced about MYTH.

All his campaign and policies in Liberal Massachussets he is willing to go against all of them as a president

I have met several die hard Republicans (texas is their base) who even though hate Obama they are not convinced with Romney. Most wont even vote and the others that would vote are driven by the hate for Obama which is more than the Love for Romney The Masachusset Moderate (Quoting Newt)
True. And I don't necessarily disagree with you (perhaps I should've directed my post solely at Prez lol smiley)

I was discussing a number of issues with pres-elect, and his only retort was "Romney" "Bain capital" "Bush" "Palin" etc etc...hence my reply to focus on the issue not a candidate as Romney most certainly does not represent the 'conservative' view, talkless of the republican view as you yourself stated about your republican friends. I would fancy a thread/discussion where issues were thrashed out without the distraction of the candidate or whatever gaffes he may have made.
Foreign AffairsRe: France To Close Embassies Over Cartoon Publication by JeSoul(f): 6:13pm On Sep 19, 2012
Evil Brain: First of all stop generalizing. You seem to think that everyone in the west had a meeting and decided to draw Mohammed cartoons. The fact is that most westerners don't care about Islam or Muslims except when the start rioting. The people who draw the cartoons and make the films you are complaining about are a very tiny group and in no way represent the average westerner.

Secondly, the people who are abusing freedom of speech are those who are calling for the death of others over a stúpid cartoon. Making fun of other people's religion is a perfectly legitimate activity which Muslims engage in just as much as everyone else. The idea that Islam or any other religion has some sort of special status over others is one that the no civilized society should ever accept.

Third, the is not how hate and xenophobia start. They start when religious and political leaders start calling for the deaths of others over stúpid YouTube videos and cartoons. If I were a Muslim, or lived in a Muslim country, I would be seriously ashamed of the rubbish some of my "leaders" have been saying recently.

Lastly, you asked if the west tolerates making of anti-Jewish remarks in the name of freedom of speech? The answer as any sensible person would know is clearly yes. The internet is full of antisemitic websites, videos and yes, even cartoons. The reason the Jews don't go about rioting and killing people about it is that most of them aren't homicidal fanatics, and the few who are are kept in check by the societies in which they live.

If Muslims want to live in a civilized world, they will have to learn to accept insults just like every other major religion has. End of story. Your religion so not special, It is not better than anyone else's. And you will NOT be treated differently. Deal with it.
Perfectly articulated.

Those rioting are simply going to have to learn to look the other way the same way the rest of us do and not react with violence. And by the way, rioting & burning down their own communities affects no one but themselves, hope they know this?

Every time I ask a question of prez, he shoots something back about Romney, Palin, Googrich etc etc, completely avoiding discussing the merit/demerit of the issue itself cheesy.

I don't like Mitt Romney. I even said here a while back I'd vote for Obama if Romney was the GOP candidate (and erhhm that has changed, NO-bama for me, I'll probably write-in granpa Ron Paul's name on my ballot at this point). So deflecting to the many shortcomings of Romney does nothing but show you probably don't care beyond the (D) or (R) beside a candidates name. And I want to challenge you lovely fellas to discuss issues - rather than partisan politics smiley.

Now, on Romney. He seems like a nice enough guy...but disingenuous. He probably believes the things he says - but the lack of conviction leaves so much to be desired. Add to that he's not particularly charismatic or able to capture the heart of an audience, I will be suprised if he wins the election.

On his comments...they say you are who you are when you think no one is watching, and Romney has shown his colors. As you guys are Liberally disposed you'll obviously cry foul & wolf & jack the ripper at his comments, but don't be suprised that a sizeable portion of the Independent vote side with him. He is right that Obama's base is NOT going to vote for him no matter what and likewise the Republican base is not going to vote for Obama no matter what. It is the Independent vote that sways an election one way or another. I personally am tired of the growing percentage of "entitled" americans who think they deserve a portion of my paycheck in form of govt subsidies. Where Romney could've exercised more tact is not alienating them all - but rather being more diplomatic in trying to get them to change their mindset. You may not win them all, but you can win a few here & there.

Lets see in a week where the polls go. And oh, that 5point bounce in the polls that Obama saw after the DNC has virtually disappeared...don't underestimate the short term memory of the American public.

grin grin grin
grin Spoken like a true Nancy Pelosi-ish, MSNBC watchin', green leaf waving Liberal. Deflect, and throw around relatively irrelevant catch-phrases in hopes to avoid confronting the shallow-ness of your stance & hope to discombobulate the opposition. Ah I have missed you! lol Try again! cheesy

Meanwhile, read up on this article published just today actually. Plenty of insight on problems with American healthcare and how simply throwing more money at the situation will NOT solve it. Until people are made to take personal responsibility for their behaviors (healthwise, socialwise, financialwise etc etc) we will continue to have problems.
