The like of alameysia are suffering from an acute form of kleptomaniacal disorder.
They are also afraid of their doomed future once they are out of office.
I think we need to be psychologically examining these governors before they are sworn in to office.
BusinessRe: Setting Up a Cyber-cafe: What Does It Take? by joftech(m): 8:07pm On Nov 25, 2005
It takes gut and unflinching determination to run a cybercafe and even any other business. I can recall when my landlord asked me relocate my VSAT to another position. This require paying another set of reinstallation fee, recommisioning, hotel accomodation for the installer etc.

But one thing that's really needed to run a cybercafe successfully is technical knowledge and God's grace.

I wish you success and good luck in your proposed venture.

PoliticsRe: What Can Honest Nigerians Do to Stop 'Nigerian Scams'? by joftech(m): 1:37am On Nov 23, 2005
I have always maintained it Nigerians scammers are not that so sophistivated in the online scammming game.
Most of them have limited computer knowledge.

Some of the stupid people that sent all those stupid posts on Slashdot are really myopic in their perception about Nigeria. No wonder they get to scam them real hard.

We can come together to form a coalation of 419ers fighters.

But it will really be hard trying to convince a 419 to go straight when he will straightly tell you that a whole governor jumped bail in another country. So where is his role model?
Christianity EtcRe: Are Nigerian Pastors Deceiving Nigerians? by joftech(op): 11:49pm On Nov 22, 2005
This post is really unnecessary. Why must it be pastors sef? rolleyesAm off to bed abeg.
Let me adapt this to our own situation here

For one, the pastors have shifted their focus on taking advantage of frustrated Nigerians in Nigeria who are easily convinced that their ill luck in this country is due to some family curse or other satanic influences that must be rebuked.

When in actuall fact Nigerians curse and satanic influences are the politicians ruling (ruining) this country.
Christianity EtcRe: Are Nigerian Pastors Deceiving Nigerians? by joftech(op): 11:28pm On Nov 22, 2005
I culled  the following from here

THE PROLIFERATION OF NIGERIAN CHURCHES IN THE US & THE INCREASING DIVORCE RATE BETWEEN THE PASTORS & THEIR SPOUSES

The minister of music had already sent the congregation to heaven by the time the pastor claimed the pulpit. His job was made easier as the members ate readily from the palm of his hands. He preached about love - how husbands must love their wives just as Jesus loved the church. His verses were intermittently punctuated by spirited shouts of "amen." He talked about the need for families to love each other, not to succumb to the worries and stress of the American society. He was speaking to the believers and he made sure that the intended audience harvested his message. The pastor, one of the greatest orators of his time, stressed home his message of love, quoting richly from the Bible which says, "Love thy neighbor as thyself" and love being the greatest of all three virtues of Hope and Faith (1st Corinthians 13:13).

Pastor Tunde as he is fondly called is the pastor of one of the new age Pentecostal and Bible-touting churches owned and pastor-ed by Nigerians in the US. This New York-based church, which I attend, was founded only three years ago, but its membership has soared over five hundred and counting. It cuts across all ethnicities from Nigeria and other African countries. Even the usually scarce northerners from Plateau, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Bornu, Bauchi and other parts of Nigeria can be found in this church in sincere worship of the Lord. Indeed, there are doctors, nurses, business men and women, well-heeled realtors, engineers, professors, Nigerian politicians (on visits), United Nations diplomats and all and sundry occupying the pews of this church every Sunday. Its main attraction is its progressive and precocious nature and its inductable biblical doctrines. The well-decked choir with the state-of-the art musical equipments that turn the church into a metaphysical 'nightclub' every Sunday morning, also adds to the attraction.
The church is a cash cow as its weekly and monthly yields are astonishing. The weekly offerings alone (according to the budget sheet distributed in church) atone for more than $30,000 and this is not inclusive of the tithe that is taken every month. Given the array of professionals in the church who earn hefty and appreciable sums, it is safe to conclude that tithe alone exceeds $100,000 a month. This is significant considering the fact that the church started from a small rented room in a nearby debauched hotel before it moved to its current spacious location and hoping to move into its own building at the turn of the new year. This building when finished will hold more than one thousand five hundred members. The basement and reception halls are elaborate and the parsonage fit for a king.
There are many of these types of churches cropping all over the fruited plains of America. A classmate of mine in college went into the ministry after graduation stating he had been called into the service of the Lord. His church located in the American Bible-Belt is doing exceedingly well. The last email I received from him indicated that the church had reached a milestone of one thousand registered members and still growing. The classmate, only in his thirties, is one of the most gifted Nigerians pastors in the US and fondly called the T.D. Jakes of Nigeria. A year ago, I was in his neck of the woods and stopped by to visit him, I marveled at the opulence and lush that had become his lot.
Invariably, Nigerian churches are scattered like mustard seed across the US. The growth of these churches in the last few years has tripled, especially, in major cities. They are popular amongst Nigerians as the songs are familiar and the services conducted in the true Nigerian style of worship. In these churches, one feels at home with the adornment of native attires and familiar routines. Like those in Nigeria, these pastors have a variety of reasons bordering on financial, legal, material to spiritual for opening these churches. But while some of them preach about love in the family, their own families are not intact. Some are separated from their wives and some are going through divorce even as they offer marriage counseling to their members.
In an email conversation with an good friend, an immigration lawyer based in the Washington DC area, who was responding to my article published on this site, "Our dollar pastor$", he talked about the increasing number of R (religious worker) visas his firm handled in the last year alone owing to the proliferation of Nigerian churches. He noted, "I have seen an unprecedented rise in the church worker immigration applications recently." He also talked about the increasing rate of divorce between these pastors and their spouses. He further noted, "About 80% of divorces that my firm filed this year was connected with disagreement between spouse regarding the church. Often, it is the wife that becomes a victim first. They spend enormous amount of time at night vigils and revivals, ignoring family needs."
The lawyer could not have been more linear with his observation as the divorce rate is increasing among this group. The bone of contention, as noted above, is usually the long hours these pastors spend with members of their flock at the expense of their families. They are out late counseling, encouraging and planning crusades, etc. Sometimes, they travel for days on church assignments. When they are in town, most return home late, often tired with no time to spend with their families. Children are neglected and wives forgotten. Even while at home, they receive calls from troubled church members about sundry issues. The work of a pastor is endless but, unfortunately, so are his troubles.
The good lawyer further observed, "Each week, I am bombarded by flyers of revivals all over the place. They are always "binding this" and "opening that." For one, the pastors have shifted their focus on taking advantage of frustrated Nigerians in the US who are easily convinced that their ill luck in this country is due to some family curse or other satanic influences that must be rebuked. They give "visions" and "prophecies," some of which have caused untold hardship on families. One guy relied on a vision by a popular pastor to relocate to California where great fortune awaited him. He ended becoming homeless. A neighbor of mine refinanced his house just to sow a seed of $7,000 to the Church; now, he struggles to pay his bills."
True enough, some of the frustrated Nigerians in the US go to these pastors to pray about an immigration issue or for the fruit of the womb, for healing, for promotion, for a new house and car, etc, and some of the pastors do well to take full advantage of these weak-hearted individuals. It's important to note that not all Nigerian pastors in the US fall in this category. Far be it from it. It will be very wrong to come to such conclusion as there are those with genuine intentions doing the work of the Lord and they must be encouraged in every possible way. But as noted in the lawyer's comments, the hardship some Nigerians have found in the US has turned them into involuntary pastors for the moment. This trend is not only limited to Nigerians but Ghanaians as well. For every two Nigerian churches in the US, there is one Ghanaian church. I was once told that the general superintendent of a famous US-based Ghanaian church was either separated from his wife or going through divorce (I have forgotten how the story went) for the same reason cited above. As these pastors battle to save their flock from broken homes and marriages, they ought to pay greater attention to their families before roles are reversed and the church members begin to offer them marriage counseling. How do they say it - Charity begins at home?

joftech i feel you on that one. when putting snags on some site s like ebay, u have to realise some people also come online to do legitimate businesses. like i resell and shop on ebay via a friends account.
Let's be factual 90% of hits on ebay from cybercafes are with intents to fraud. If someone tell me that they want to use ebay and other restricted sites if they can prove that they want to do legitimate stuffs there they get access right away.
ComputersRe: Cyber-cafe Operators in Festac Having Problems With Police (419) by joftech(m): 10:19pm On Nov 22, 2005
I can't see why bani, as owner of the cafe, can't run any program he wants on any computer in his cafe, at any time he chooses.

He could, for example, run a program that slows a PC to a crawl on command. When a scammer logs in to that PC, bani kicks the slow-down program into life. When the 419er logs out, bani stops the slow-down program. It wouldn't be long before the 419ers gave up on his cafe.
I my cafe people can't login to www.ebay.com and some other site because i have disables it.  I have over 5000 sites lockeddown.

www.ebay.com used an "isapi.dll" to process their login script what i did was to disable the downloading of any .dll files from the main firewall. People can get to www.ebay.com homepage but the moment they try to login they will hit a snag. cheesy

This way they don't come around my place to use www.ebay.com.

There are so many things you can do to protect your facilities, but what pained me most is that after going through all these length to protect the entire netcitizen population from being exploited, one stupid officer that does not know what an e-mail is will walk up to your premise with AKs and MK 16s shouting and arresting people when Alaye-Mu-Siga walks the streets of Yenagoa a freeman.

I think they have been envisaging that already, hence the recent penchant for bullet proof cars by them. Our senate just lavish a whole N20 million on just a single car recently for the senate president despite the fact that the former senate bought one not less than 4 years ago.

Bullet proof car or no bullet proof cars I know there are some bullet that can’t be avoided, (or have you seen anyone that avoided Mr. Death’s bullet).

I think the British let him off the hook since all other governors have now refused to carry another shipload of ghana-must-go bags to the street and banks of London.
I don't think the London police will intentionally want to disgrace themselves by letting him go. The peoplle who paid 1.5 million pounds to secure his bail and guarantee that he'll show up on Friday, are the ones to suffer for this. Sad
Seun they are not suffering anything (except maybe some days in the slammer). Have anyone ever wonder the real source of that money too.

Is not God that ordained the King/Queen in UK, you need to do more reasearch about how they arrived at that conclusion.

As per Okotie becoming the president, there will be totoal anarchy if that should happen. We need to look at people that want to handle this country.

All past leaders have wifes and children under their roofs before becoming president, but where is Pastor Chris wife. Charity begins at home.

Our people still have the military era mentality. Sirlear was voted in in Sierra Leone because those that are literate are more able to see were they want the future to be.

When people are informed about their rigths they will surely know when to gear up and takes what belongs to them.

As long as we have overwhelming illiterates (those that doesn't know their rights) we will continue to be a backward moving nation.

This is what i have been saying. Is only tragic death that can sanction all these corrupt public officials.

The level of poverty in these country is quite pathetic.

When people can troop out enmassse to welcome a bastard (propably to get a N1000 note) that has made their life a hell on earth it shows the people don't really know their right.

During the military era we don't have scenes like these. What we are witnessing will even make some citizen that they can go free after stealing money that belong to the masses.

When a whole governor and the president will keep a sealed mouth i wonder what right he has got to say they must prosecute 419ers, 419er in situations like this are even better than all these bastards.

On behalf of all those pensioners that are languishing in poverty nationwide i proclaim massive and un-ending sorrows on all these corrupt officials.
PoliticsRe: President Obasanjo Wants a Third Term? by joftech(m): 11:40am On Nov 21, 2005
The way some people portrayed Nigeria makes me laugh at times. Although there's visible poverty here but am yet to see anybody who can't get something to eat no matter how small it may be. Education up to Senior Secondary School level is more or less free. Most of the people abroad saying all these rubbish about Nigeria don't really know what's presently obtainable back home.

I personally i don't see anything with hawking things for someone's parent, although i did not do that when i was young but my sisters used to. When children hawk it makes them to have an idea about buying and selling, it also makes them to be more prudent since they know it's not so easy to earn money. And by the way most of the children that are hawking own their own the proceeds they only use it to supplement their family income.

The only criteria that can make me to endorse Obasanjo for a third term is if he can sell off NEPA before June 2006. But saying that he is the only capable hand that's available right now is a stupid assumption.

Most of EFCC operatives have little or no technological knowledge about how these people defraud people on the Internet. Going around to harass people in cybercafes will never put an end to internet scams in Nigeria.

And by the way Nigeria has the smallest percentange of people that are involved in online crimes.

But to carry out those plans successfully, they first need to exhibit their talents where they know it won't be killed, so that by the time they'll return to the country, no one will doubt their abilities.
i don't believe in anyone killing anyones talent. I can remember it was around this time last year when i wanted to start my own business, some people called me to tell me that am too young, that it's this and that. You know what, i told them right then and there that there's no going back on my descision. And i thank God today they have been able to come around and see what the Lord has done. Assuming i have chickened out due to not having a determination of my own, i would not have become a business owner today.

It's not that i don't recognice the fact that there are dream killers out there, but you are the only one that can give them the final say over your dreams.

And mind you how you operate a business somewhere else might be quite different from how you will operate it in your home country. Here i know the market and what people want since am part of the crowd, but how are you going to market your talent where the people don't know the meaning and value of it.
TravelRe: So Many Young Men in Nigeria Planning to go to the US by joftech(m): 8:34pm On Nov 20, 2005
Take your time to read this. This is exactly what I mean and not all the story u're telling.
Hot Angel does not really make any sense to me. The father know quite well that the chances of his son making a career out of playing football is very slim, so he is trying to protect his future. If the boy finaly made it to Princeton as a result of his footballing prowes thank God, but i doubt if that will ever give him his degree.

So back to the issue at hand. When you run away from realities i tell you, you can only run you can't hide.

If you know how i used to treasure going abroad before discovering for myself that there are possibilities of achieving somethings here. I refuse to go abroad to do all sort of menial jobs in order to settle down. I myself i still do nurse the hope of going abroad to study, it may not necesarily be US. I know the mission and purpose of my going abroad, and once am through with my studies am coming back home.

So you (Goodguy and Hot Angel) need to talk from the perspective of people that are making a living for themselves not those that are still been spoonfeed.

Apparently, I am the only honest Nigerian who cares about doing something to improve the Nation's image. I would have been better off not reading what all of you had to say on this thread. Shame on you, Nigeria! Angry
You see Seun it's rather pathetic when people are not supporting you to do a noble course. You know what, i used to hate internet 419ers than you do. But when you tell them to stop it they will point finger to all these leaders that are making life miserable for the average Nigerian, when the IG of police in this country can manage to steal billions to his own account and those under him will stop at nothing to put logs of woods on the road to collect their mandatory 20, 50 Naira from innocent citizens.

Before anyone can effect any change we must make sure that people that are working are doing fine if this happens then those that are into fraudluent acts might start thinking about getting a legitimate job.

Nigeria does not have a worthy vision, hence the youth are so demoralized.
TravelRe: So Many Young Men in Nigeria Planning to go to the US by joftech(m): 6:43pm On Nov 20, 2005
So what is all these talent-killing all about.

Has anyone ever kill your talents. If some of the things that are needed to bring your ideas to the fore are not available why don't you try and create a work around those things. If it's NEPA why don't you get a generator and pass on the bill for the petrol and maintainance to your custormers. If it's water why don't you get a well in your home. And if it's good road why don't you get an okada or a 4wd (SUV).

Saying Nigeria is a talent-killer is what i see as the worst unbridled talk. No where is the world is ever conducive for business, there will always be things that will always militate against the smooth running of a venture initially, but with time and perseverance everything will work out fine.

There are potentials in this country, but the problem is that no one is ever ready to do the dirty job of starting it first.
I will like Seun to share his experience before starting www.nairaland.com so you can all see that it's not easy been an entreprenuer.

We have good talents here in Nigeria, King Sunny Ade, Wole Soyinka, 2Face, Lagbaja, and millions of others are examples

You are the only one that can kill your own talents.

Am borrowing Kanye West lyrics here:

You see, if you evern wanted to ever be anything
There'd always be somebody that shoot down any dream
There'll always be haters, that's the way it is
Hater niggaz marry hater bitches and have hater kids
But they gon' have to take my life 'fore they take my drive
'Cause when I was barely livin, that's what kept me alive
Just the thought that maybe it could be better than what we at at this time

Some say he arrogant. Can y'all blame him?
It was straight embarrassing how y'all played him
Last year shoppin my demo, I was tryin' to shine
Every motherfucker told me that I couldn't rhyme
Now I could let these dream killers kill my self-esteem
Or use my arrogance as the steam to power my dreams
I use it as my gas, so they say that I'm gassed
But without it I'd be last, so I ought to laugh
So I don't listen to the suits behind the desk no more
