EducationRe: Nigerians and Their 'Craze' for Degrees by joftech(m): 11:03am On Nov 09, 2005
A degree is seen as a status symbol by some gullible Nigerians, they consider anyone without one an illitrate. But in actual fact education is not about a degree or a university education, it's all about what you know and your capabilities.

CareerRe: Access/Marina/Capital Banks to Sack All Polytechnic & State University Graduates by joftech(m): 10:28pm On Nov 06, 2005
It's only in Nigeria that they can try this nonsense. If it were to be some more "educated" and enlightened country they would have been hit with a class-action law suit, it's only in Nigeria companies/corporations come up with stupid employment standards. In no time those they term as "excellent" graduates will be relegated to the same class people they laying off.

But it's good as this will make people to look for ways of creating jobs instead of looking for non-existent jobs.
EducationRe: NUC decision To Peg Nigerian University Admission to 147,000 by joftech(m): 2:14pm On Nov 06, 2005
The mostly like solution to overcrowding of institutions will be reducing the number of chidlren a household can have as it's been done in China.

When so many people go to school, millions will end up in the job market i think this is what the government is trying to curb.

As long as people continue to have an average of 4 chidlren per household, there's surely bound to be overpopulation.
BusinessRe: Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) by joftech(m): 11:58am On Nov 06, 2005
Transcorp can never and will never pull Nigeria out of the economic mess she has been wallowing in for years.

I see this Transcorp thing as a big way of deceiving Nigerians into believing that an economic Messiah has come. When flamboyant people whose motive in life is all about how they can increase their own net-worth teamed together to form a mega-corporation, what you can/must expect is nothing but a big failure.

Nigeria does not need a big corporation to get out of the economic quagmire she’s in right now, what we need is/are SMEs. The US economy is buoyant because they give qualitative support to their SME, they value them more than corporations like Microsoft, IBM and Boeing.

SMEs have the potentials of creating more jobs in many regions of a country than any corporation, a small SME also do have the potentials of becoming a big player in it’s own sector too; Microsoft, IBM, Dell etc are classical examples.

What those founders of Transcorp are trying to do is to compete with foreign multinationals, they will fail woefully because they don’t have what it takes to match these people. Though they may have the financial and political muscle, transcorp does not have a veritable economic, development and innovative blueprint to become a world class player overnight like they planned to.

Mega corporations are not the saviour of any nations economy because those that run them are mostly people that are out of tune with what’s obtainable on the street. Enron, Worldcom are examples.

Also for your information, Wal-mart is the biggest SME(retailer) killer anywhere they go. They charge super low prices, and who bear the brunt, their suppliers, they profit because of the volumes of transactions they handle. In order to cut cost, they are now replacing workers in their stores with robots.

When the NSE DG is also a director and one of the “owner” of Transcorp, I wonder how she will be able to sanction the company (Transcorp) when they violate set standards of NSE. And if you don’t know, Transcorp is also owned “Sons and daughter of Mr. President”.

For a start where did they get the money with which they bough NICON Hilton from?

Well sha, time will tell if Transcorp is a blessing or a curse.

And who is Walter Ofonagoro?
Walter Ofonagoro, he was Gen. Sani Abacha mouthpiece (Minister of Information) during that infamous rule. He is one loyal man to his boss (Gen. Sani Abacha).

Pray tell, why don't you give us reasons for naming the afforementioned rather than acting as a critic to others opinions?
Am not criticizing you or anybody, what i have just said is what is it that stops a farmer from becoming a president? Even George Bush is a farmer/ranch owner.

How come all the JUJU people are not stinking rich, don't let all this people fool you men.
It's a well known fact that a knieve cannot sharpen it's own handle, so that they are not rich does not mean they don't have the wherewithal to make others rich throgh ungodly means.

There are working juju(not music) and those that believe in it's efficacy will do just about anything (major reasons of ritual killings) to get it.

At almost every public social function he attends, Buhari is shunned like a rabid dog, with the latest fine example of that being President Obasanjo's pointed refusal to accept his outstretched hand during a televised memorial gathering of dignitaries on the occasion of Stella Obasanjo's passing.
Obasanjo refused to shake him simply because of the feud between them. This is a wrong decision on Obasanjo's part.

For me, its our president himself, President Olusegun Obasanjo. Dont know why but he walks like a farmer and thinks like one to me too.
So how does a farmer walk, talk and think.

Now back to the topic at hand, there are loads and loads of these comedians on the political landscape of Nigeria, they make me laugh most of the time:

Walter Ofonagoro, Ebenezer Babatope, Aurthur Nzeribe, Lamidi Adedibu, Azeez Arisekola all these fellows are natural born hired-gun they also make a good puppet for the highest bidder.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian First Lady Mrs Stella Obasanjo Is Dead by joftech(m): 3:24pm On Oct 26, 2005
Am not running away, i have been here since yesterday.

Abacha was protrayed as a bad leader. Those that are worse than him still wine and dine with our political leaders free. It's all propaganda. When some people don't like you they will make sure your good sides are never seen, so what do you do, you can only but show them what they portray you as. That's what that happen to Abacha.

When i come back i will continue to hold my ground.

I hate people that are partisans. 99% of Nigerians rejoice when Gen. Sani Abacha died, why all these.

Anyway i still don't believe she died as a result of the surgery. Afterall liposuction is no longer as delicate as it used to be; there's an undertone, but i won't want to...

I wonder why joftec ran away from this thread after his last post which i tackled.
Sir i did not run away. For Christ sake, i don't earn my living on Nairalana.com so it's impossible for me to devote 24 hours of the day to post on it, but am not a coward like some that can't bare their mind on issues, but hide under guise of religion.

I do seize every opportunity to bare my mind on issues and this is one of such occasion.

Personally i don't have any feelings for all these politicians, simple. What have they done for me to deserve my sympathy? Nothing.

A woman that ordered the arrest of a journalist who is dilligently doing his work does not deserve my apology/sympathy. I can only imagine the backlash of that ignoble act if it where Laura Bush that did something like that.

When someone that drunk-drive die in an accident we do say "na God catch am", so that must also play in this scenerio.

What you said about the removal of your name in the quote is wrong, if you can take time to see all of my posts you will know and see  how i quote people.

It seems some people want to capitalise on this event to be able to get a seat in FEC meetings, cheesy cheesy cheesy or abi dem bi "Sunkun Sabo"

It's not necesirly a must that Nigerians must be selling things. They can outsource assembling of products like electronics, cars, cloth, shoes sewing etc like they used to do in countries like Mexico, China etc
PoliticsRe: Nigerian First Lady Mrs Stella Obasanjo Is Dead by joftech(m): 11:56am On Oct 26, 2005
It's a shame talking of money here.
Were you told she stole the money for the operation?
Or did she go to spain with millions of pounds or dollars?
So disgusting to read such comments here.
It still surprise me the way some people have made it a point of duty to appear to be weeping when in actuall fact they don't feel a tinge of concern over this issue, it once again brings to fore the hypocrisy of Nigerians.

I read with awe what some people wrote after reading what those Timesonline guys wrote here.

I as a person i bare my minds on issues and i don't really care whose ox get gored.

Nairalanders speak the truth and let the devil(thieving politicians) be ashamed of themselves.
BusinessRe: Setting Up a Cyber-cafe: What Does It Take? by joftech(m): 2:00am On Oct 26, 2005
From experience setting up and running a cybercafe is a daunting task. There are so many things that need ironing out first before proceeding. It's also somehow capital intensive depending on your taste.

The business is divided into the financial and technical genre. The technical takes precedence over the financial though. First you need to make sure you are technically sound with computers and technology, you must also like working with computers. Most people/cybercafes run into difficulties because they the owners/managers don't have the technical know how.

For you connectivity i will recommend you get a VSAT of your own. Radio links are not stable due to shoddy networks from the providers/operators that are available in Nigeria.

Then you get the systems, the processing speed of the systems must be anything that can run Windows 2000 or >er versions. Also from experience new systems are not too good since most of them can't withstand the constant stress they are placed under, top range tokunbo PCs makes economic and technical sense here. But your servers must be new with high processing capabilities.

Then you need to make sure your office/cybercafe is cool and the environment very conducive for people. Good customer relationship is very crucial too. Your staffs must be courteous and very tech/net savvy too.

Another thing is that you must not sell cheap since you won't be getting your bandwidth/connectivity for free/cheap. Most operators sell cheap and they go bust; you must not sell at a cut throat price though, do a survey of what's obtainable and available in your intended location.

Also look way you can beat the competition around your intended market, you must try and create a niche market for yourself.

The major problem in the business is NEPA. It very hard buying fuel on a daily basis, am a regular face in 90% the gas stations here.

With God and your own efforts/persistence everything will surely work out.

That's all i have got for now.

You can IM me for off board talks.
ComputersRe: Cyber-cafe Operators in Festac Having Problems With Police (419) by joftech(m): 1:23am On Oct 26, 2005
Well i owned and run a cybercafe and i thank God i don't get all these stupid raids from these so called policemen, it's not that i settle them o.

Bani you need to let them know that they should stop the incessant raid since am sure they don't have any concrete proof/evidence of cyber fraud in and from your premises. They must show you any evidence like your IP address and all other technical stuffs before they can be coming to harrass your custormers. They don't have any right to harass anyone based on percieved invlovement in cyber scams.

The EFCC and the Nigerian Police don't have what it takes to police the Internet it's well beyond their league. The earlier you make them realise this the better. Those operators that are offering them bribes are the one that are causing the major problems, it lend credence to their(police) assumptions about cyber frauds in their cybercafes.

Am still waiting for the day they will come to my office though, I go show them pepper(not money o).

It still amazes me How some of us can be judgmental on this issue, I am a professional body builder at my spear time, and none of us knows why she embark on what she did. It's not an easy job loosing weight, especially at her age. I grieve at this lost of a Nation, and this is no joking time we lost a wonderful lady a Nigerian, and lets all come together as a Nation United we must stand and mourn her death and the tragic flight incident. thanks.
I wonder for how long we have to mourn over this. Why must we lament over a "non" issue when thousands are dying everyday due to the bad administration of this country by our political leaders.

Just like Lauryn Hill said "What you want might make your cry....". All these people will go for stupid surgeries and when they now ask them how they manage to look so young they will say then say it's God's work.

I wonder why she did not give the money used for this botched makeover to several people that badly need money for plastic surgeries due to burns from accidents.

We must not let this event to becloud our normal senses.

While the death of the first lady is quite pathetic, i will like us all to reflect on what her death has taught us all.

Because she has access to "unlimited" finance she decided to embark on what i called a wasteful expedition.

The like of Imelda Marcos are not the types of people we should emulate here.

hhaahahhahaahahhaha..... I know this isn't a joke.. but when are they going to release OBJ's cousins to go concsole him. I heard the zoo is still locked and baboons can't get out.. Cheesy

There is a state in the midlands or nothern part of Nigeria where the governor is a reverend. He has not killed the moslems in the state.
You are talking about Jolly Tanko Nyame of Taraba State, he is not a hardliner like Rev Chris Okotie, he is more on the center than Rev Chris who is more on the right/left wing.

The event of the last few days in Nigeria is a double wammy. I hope those theiving fellas in agbada will know better now.

I don't believe she died from liposuction if that's what she has gone for. This may be the handiwork of those that are against OBJ's anti-corruption war and his third term / 6 years bid.
PoliticsRe: Chris Okotie (Fresh Party) For President In 2007? by joftech(m): 9:30pm On Oct 23, 2005
You can forget that Okotie is a pastor and vote for him. When an Alhaji comes into power, nobody complains.
It's an Alhaji you are talking about not an Imam. What i don't like is that if he eventually become the president there's the tendency for him to have a biased and polarised ideas/views about other religions, this is not good for a secular state like Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian First Lady Mrs Stella Obasanjo Is Dead by joftech(m): 8:19pm On Oct 23, 2005
My heart goes out to the first family here in Nigeria. May God grant them the fortitude to bear this loss.

This strongly sounds a warning to all those politician going for medical check-up/care abroad wasting Nigerians- money, death can come for you at anytime no matter which hospital you run to. They should try and improve the facilites in our national hospitals so that we can all be having access to quality health care here without wasting hard earned foreign exchange.

I hope these incident will not slowdown Mr. Prez in his anti-corruption campaigns.
Foreign AffairsRe: The Euro: Possibly the Real Reason for US Invasion of Iraq? by joftech(m): 11:26am On Oct 23, 2005
I don’t believe the US attacked Iraq because of OPEC intention to switch to the Euro.

The Iraq war is solely meant to profit some well connected people/multinationals like Halliburton, Carlyle group(the 11 biggest military contractor), Zapata and a host of others.

Since the Vietnam and cold war era the US has not been spending heavily on the forces, but some people deem it fit to create some situations in which there will be a need to arm the US to the teeth. It first started with the Missile Defense System.

There are lots of people that are just not too comfortable with the report on the 911 saga, some have also been coming up with loads of conspiracy theories. “Or what do you think about the jumbo jet that crashed to the Pentagon”.

The world today is controlled by the following club/group, Bohemian Grove, Bildegberg group etc. The IMF/World Bank is just a plain front for these organizations or what do you think about the rotation of head of these bodies between European nations and US..

The Western nations are only doing all these to protect their own selfish interest, is that what you think; No sir/ma they are not.. If we are to look at it from another perspective, these people get together to protect their own economy; this translates into a better life for their citizens. But our leaders here in Naijaland only get together to talk about how they will get the choice property in Ikoyi and mansions in US and London, all with State money.

I like the western nations leaders, they practice what i call a win-win form of politics, they chop, their citizens chop, but here na win-lose politics, they chop the masses die in penury cry cry cry

Before it's opium then steel now it's oil, i will be glad if anyone can tell me the next resource.

Jokes EtcPrisoner sues God by joftech(op): 3:27am On Oct 20, 2005
A Romanian prisoner is suing God for failing to save him from the Devil.

The inmate, named as Pavel M in media reports, accused God of "cheating, abuse and traffic of influence".

His complaint reads: "I, the undersigned Pavel M, currently jailed at Timisoara Penitentiary serving a 20 years sentence for murder, request legal action against God, resident in Heaven, and represented here by the Romanian Orthodox Church, for committing the following crimes: cheating, concealment, abuse against people's interest, taking bribe and traffic of influence."

The inmate argued that his baptism was a contract between him and God who was supposed to keep the Devil away and keep him out of trouble.

He added: "God even claimed and received from me various goods and prayers in exchange for forgiveness and the promise that I would be rid of problems and have a better life.

"But on the contrary I was left in Devil's hands."

The complaint was sent to the Timisoara Court of Justice and forwarded to the prosecutor's office.

But prosecutors said it would probably be dropped and they were unable to subpoena God to court.

PoliticsRe: Pictures On the New 1,000 Naira Note by joftech(m): 8:31pm On Oct 16, 2005
Nigeria is just a mockery. I believe the problem is premature independence. We should have suffered more in the hands of our colonial masters so that we can be able to know how to use an opportunity that has been entrusted in us.
Some people have conditioned their mind for perpetual slavery (Israelites in Egypt). I wonder that this could be coming from somebody in the 21st Century.

I don't know why some people are so hyper-ancious about where they want Nigeria to be. They compare Nigeria to US, Canada and UK but they failed to know for how long these people have been toiling to get to where they are today. These countries that we are envying did not acheive half of what we have achieved in their 90th year after indipendence.

We will get there but it will take time.

Some people need to stop their stupid whining of theirs on Nairaland.
