@Joftech I really didn't get your argument there. How is the absence of credit card the cause for scam now? You're implying that the 419 guys aim for genuine business but we all know thats not so. They are greedy and thieves thats the simple fact. Iam particularly in annoyance these days seeing Nigerian 419 guys making fools of themselves and causing embarassment for all Nigerians The level they would stoop to to collect money. Disgusting!I have seen people that want to pay for one thing or the other on the internet employing the services of these fraudsters to make the payment since they can't get genuine payment methods. Am not saying 419er ever want to be legitimate. |
Most of the scammers cannot do what it takes to make money honestly from the Internet. The major reason why we have all these online frauds is the iniability to have access to valid and genuine credit cards and online payment means. If Nigerian banks can offer these services i know people that do resort to these scammers to get credit cards will go for the genuine ones. @Seun am not sure if an individual can change the way Nigeria is been portrayed on the Internet. The only best way i know is if we can shutdown all these stupid sites that said they are fighting Nigerian scammers then i will know we are on the way up. It's those sites that are giving Nigeria bad PR. We must also be able to develop our own payment option in-house. That way Nigerians would have been used to the culture of making online payments. You might say that it is not an excuse; yes, I agree. But then, looking at the economy of Nigeria today, where a BSc or even an MSc degree holder will have to sweat under the anger of the sun, looking for job, all to no avail. (Very few get lucky these days); I really won't blame people engaging in internet frauds. At least, it is better than going to innocent people's houses and killing them in cold blood just to get their money for them to survive (robbery).Internet fraud is the same as robbing people in their homes. |
How can you see any good in a retrogressive law? The explanation you put forward serves to further confirm to us that those engineers are out to rip people off. Why will they not want clients to have knowledge of the prices? probably because they have something to hide.If you supply PCs you must be a smart bizness man or else. When you supply a PC you give people at least 3 months warranty, how about if something went wrong with the PC before the expiration of your warranty. It's part of the money that you managed to get that you will use to fix the PC. Meanwhile on the issue of security, computer village is right beside the old african shrine and a lot of those miscreants are still in the vicinity. Until they are properly uprooted from the area, the security problem will persist. The place is secure. Hardly will you hear anybody talking about losing money to pick-pockets. My advice is that when you are there walk briskly to where you are going and don't wander about, that way if anyone is trailing you they will know you know what you are doing. |
What access bank failed to know is that what people learn in univesity is irrelevant to what they will face on the field. They should have embark on retraining these workers. What i know is that it's your IQ that matter not the school or grade you manage to get. Very soon the only people they will be employing will be people that have overseas degrees, it's happening already anyway. |
For anyone to make it big either here or there you must be self-employed. If am able to get there i will make sure i work for myself, i know it may not be easy but Naija has taught me all i need to know about been a tough guy. But there's no place like home. |
So is it everybody int the US that are living comfortably. I have been able to chat with family and friends who are in the US what they told me is that what we have here is what they have there. Some are rich some are poor. If you are living comfortably in Nigeria you will forget thinking about running to a country where you will be treated as a third class citizen. And some of you comparing Nigeria to the US, you are all stupid. The US did not achieved what Nigeria has achieved in 40 years when they where 60 years. They are more developed due to their age. July 4, 1776 - Octber 1, 1960 clearly shows a difference of 184 solid years. If we are able to get 50 more years am sure we will not be where we are today. They (US) have faced corruption, illitracy, poverty, insecurity and so on. If some of you can ready about the US in the past you will know their present did not come as a fairytale, but a result of collective building. |
no magic will scale him through this,as for 3rd term project, it's not feasible. OKPARIOga sir you are totally wrong. The Transcorp guys control 95% of Nigeria's economy, since they are so close to baba i doubt if they will ever want him to leave office before consolidating their purchases. If baba should leave they will have to start all-over again. Think about it, we don't have anyone left to challenge OBJ again. MAN, those stupid lawmakers etc are firmly in support of the 3rd term ambition, so what do you expect. |
Similarly we will never be able to estimate the number of Nigerians who owe their lives to the simple expedient of having a working phone at hand. This writer hid in a cassava plot some time ago, summoning the police by cell phone as armed robbers prepared to lay siege on my residence. As the suspects were led away after the timely arrival of the police, I profusely thanked Baba Iyabo for giving Nigeria phones that work, as many in the past promised and failed to do.Crediting Obasanjos adminsitration for liberalizing the telecom sector in Nigeria is a misplacement of praise. The praise is to the private sector. What he has only done is to allow them to do their thing as we are witnessing it. What is it that is holding him back from expediting action on the selling of NEPA and NITEL or is he waiting for Transcorp to raise another fund for the purchase of NEPA and NITEL |
If America is a bed of roses i think all the people that have travelled down there would have become billionaires by now; but what percentage are even in the 5 million dollar bracket. Talents can't grow in Nigeria. Infact the Nigerian system is a talent killer. That's a misguided quote. People are making it in Nigeria big time. Dangote, Akindele (Aramed), Sonny Okogwu, Coscharis, Subomi Balogun etc all started their business empires in Nigeria and they are making it big. Those that come down here to do "owambe" show off are those that are really doing badly over there. I can only go overthere to study. If people around here have the same mindset with me am sure we can become one of the very best country in 3 years. One reason why some people thing oyinbo land is better than Nigeria is because of the way we have all been brought up, we see ourselves as second class citizens to the whites. My advice for any intending migrants, when you go there know you will have to deal with 2 sets of racisim, 1 from the whites and the second from the black-americans. |
I heard some pastors and babalawo do tell people to bring the confirmation of their entries for spiritual blessings. This clearly shows the level of ignorance this country is in. |
I would have like to be part of your cybercafe network but i don't know the details about your plans and the benefits of being a part of it. |
I agree with you on politicians attitudes to such summits. But the private sector stands to gain a lot if they can lobby politicians into supporting initiatives that a proposed in summits like this. In Nigeria today regular power supply is the bane of IT development. If government can provide regular power supply the IT sector will definately witness a substancial growth. SAT-3 would have been a nice technology but will people be able to afford the cost of getting connected to it. |
At least the summit outcome will definately be a clarion call for third world countries on the need for them to get on the Internet/ICT bandwagon if they really want to empower their citizerns. |
Have any of you consider the possibility of larceny by trick and Deception. I think it's high time the admin close down this thread. |
But how cheap is $100 in Nigeria expecially for primary schools pupils. |
Good point Seun. But at least it will make these politicians in Africa and most especially Nigeria to know that the Internet and ICT are veritable means of moving the wheels of the country forward. One of the most interesting thing i have heard in the ongoing summit is when our own Minister of Communication was suggesting that the Internet domain name administration must be put in the UN custody. I wonder what he knows about all the techno babble and what he is doing about the moribund .ng domain. In my own opinion putting the domain name administratio under the UN will reduce the explosive rate at which Internet technologies are growning due to all the bureaucratic nature of the UN. I hope Mr. President and the honourable minister will be able to implement some of the recommendations at the summit. |
Joftech, based on your reply to my last post, the summary of this post is, "we must make our politicians utilize our natural resources". Where do the "pastors decieving Nigerians" come in?They do by telling us to ignore/not to perticipate in the running of this country. |
Ha! I didn't know that. I thought they truly loved God and did his bidding, regardless. If it were so Nigeria won't still be in the mess she is right now. |
So, it's all about material gains and job creation? So what else do you think it's all about. |
Mr. Segun 100k is 100,000 and so on. the k is just a way of shortening it. $500 will be a big money for an entry level position in Nigeria, if you can get a job that can offer you this, get it quick. And thanks for clarifying some issues on this thread. |
...and my question to joftech would be "why pastors?"Am complaining about pastors because they are the one giving people false hopes. Joftech, I still don't understand your point. The sumary of your post seems to be, "we must make our politicians utilize these God-given potentials". What God-given potentials are you talking about exactly? How about our natural resources. If you don't think the newly mushroomed churches should be banned then you are of the opinion that they're performing to your expectation, so stop complaining about the excesses of their "pastors."If you close down churches thousands will become jobless. |
These politicians are giving the military boys veritable reasons to want to come back to power. I have never support the present crops of politicains in Nigeria and i will never support them. Why must they think it's only a single person that can rule this country effectively in a country of 120 million people; are the rest of us all fools? Marwa will make a good president if we can give him the chance (am basing my support for his candidacy based on his performance in the states he has administered before) Me too can effectively run this country. |
So how is Seye proceeding with his business plans? We need some updates on what he has been able to come up with. |
when pastors say people should seek super-natural windfalls where is the windfall going to come from. Even the Bible said faith without work is dead. When you pray to God for financial breakthroughs and the economy you are in is bad i wonder how such wishes will become a reality. In this modern time the government is more or less the peoples god, and that's why God himself has put in all these things in place. We must make our politicians utilize all these God given potentials. |
This is the same Obasanjo that want to head the UN. |
They can only change if the citizen can make them to realize they are serving them and stop treating them like gods. Our future is in our own hands. |
If you think the population does not affect the distribution of wealth how about when 2000 graduates showed up for a job meant for just 2 people. If the growth rate of the country's pouplation is not checked we are more or less on the verge of outstripping all the natural resources that we are banking our hopes on. In 10 years from now petrol will cease to be the major energy source, where will Nigeria get the money to sustain her economy and citizens. Those that said we are 2nd poorest might be right beacuse they based your citizens well being on your GDP; even if your revenue is high your citizens could still be languishing in poverty if your revenue cannot effectively cater for them all. It's just like living on N1,000 per month in Lagos. |
I will let Joftech know that he can't hold a strong office because he is not corrupt, therefore cannot match with the qualification for political leaders of Nigeria. The impression that someone who is not corrupt cannot hold a political office in Nigeria is what we need to wipe out from our mindset. As long as we let corrupt people run this country they will continue to ruin her. |
Nigeria is quite oil-rich, but we have 150 million people to support. That is what makes us poor.Like i have been suggesting wherever i go and in my previous posts here, there is an urgent need to reevaluate the way people are having children. If we can peg the maximum number of children an household can have to 2, our GDP will rise astronomically within the next 10 years. I know with education and a new reawakening Nigeria will become the India of Africa. |
