Meritocracy: Dead or Alive Buhari is better than Jonathan. I'm not a politician, what's Jonathan achievement from it's state level as Governor to federal level as president except looting records. Can you even compare his sure-p, or you win program with Npower. Nepa is not working, refinery zero, health sector zero so why the hullabaloo about looter. What is Npower? Don't even go there. Lots of Nigerians benefited from surep and Youwin. You should research before jumping to conclusions. Npower is a failed scheme. There is no planned empowerment package after the scheme. Most of the beneficiaries will join the ocean of youth unemployment after two years. AN Oxford University scholar James Burton who recently conducted a research on the success of Jonathan administration’s Youth Enterprise with Innovation (YouWin) programme has recommended it as a model for Africa and other developing countries, for enterprise growth.
He added that the World Bank and many other organizations are now looking to replicate YouWin’s success, in other countries. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/oxford-scholar-recommends-jonathans-youwin-developing-countries/. Jonathan failed buh you should give him credit where he tried. The presidential scholarship scheme remains one of the most inclusive govt initiatives. I personally know a commoner that attended Harvard courtesy of the presidential scholarship scheme. Also, a tailor in my area won Youwin. Now, she has more than 4 tailors under her. |

FYI, the Chinese government frowns against religious gathering especially unregistered ones...the demolition of this 'mega' church was done to serve a deterrent to other ones...they sold out this lame excuse to their justify their deed...smell the coffee and quit gulping up this 'white lie' just because it confirms your narrative...
Mind you churches don't have the monopoly when its comes to 'blocking the road' or 'disturbing the populace' as you try to paint it, Muslims also do the same if not more. If you are indeed against religious activities, I implore you criticize both religions rather than slyly twisting facts just to whip up sentiment against a particular religion only... If it's illegally occupying a farmland then it's not a flimsy excuse. China have very limited arable land. That is why they are building relationships with Africa so they can feed their population in the future. |

Business › Re: Will Dangote's Refinery Make Petrol Cheaper? by Johnrake69: 12:45pm On Jan 07, 2018 |
omohayek: Exactly. So many Nigerians refuse to learn, even when there are obvious precedents to draw from. Dangote's entire fortune is built on government-supported monopolies, so why should anyone expect his refinery to be any different?
The common fantasy of a Dangote or someone else swooping in to provide Nigerians with limitless refined petrol below its international market price is nothing but a pipe dream: it may well be that the cheapest way of supplying such fuel will continue to be by importing it from countries with established refining industries, and that Dangote's refinery will be unable to compete with such suppliers unless they are slapped with huge tariffs that end up raising the domestic price above what it ought to have been.
The simple, efficient, guaranteed, permanent cure for Nigeria's fuel problems is simply to completely deregulate the sector, allow prices to be freely set by market forces, and remove government involvement by completely selling off the refineries and other such assets. Getting the outrageously delayed Petroleum Industry Bill into law will be a good start (but still only a start) in this direction. Must we sell all our assets to greedy businessmen that give nothing back to the society? Saudi's Aramco is the most valuable company in the whole of Asia it's worth over $2 trillion and yet, it's 100% government owned. It's high time we the people really hold our leaders accountable. Thank God you mentioned Dangote cement. Today Nigerians buy cement at almost double the price in the international market. Yet, Dangote for instance gets his raw materials at almost free. He pays #25 per ton for limestone and the likes. A quick look at his financial statements from 2010 - 2015 shows he made almost #1trillion in profit and paid less than #12billion in tax. For key industries we must not allow private individuals like Dangote to have a field day. Cos the end result will be disastrous. |

progress69: In the face of the recession Nigeria is currently coming out from, there have been several attacks on the current administration.
Here are 5 indisputable facts before the current government came into power. Recall that as at Dec 2014, oil price was still above $64/barrel.
1. 27 state governors were owing back log of salaries as at May 2015 when this government took over hence the bail out funds approved for governors. Despite this bail out funds, many refused to meet their obligations.
Buhari in ‘bailout’ meeting with governors- June 23; 2015
Why have Governors refused to pay salaries, allowances in spite of bailout funds? - Dec 30, 2015
2. Federal Government was borrowing to pay 2015 salaries.-May 6, 2015
Nigeria borrows to pay salaries with cash crunch worsening. (Vanguard)
3. Oil marketers were owed billions, led to a fuel scarcity that paralyzed Nigeria, even banks were closing before time, telecoms operators were sending texts about expected disruptions (never in Nigeria have this happened until 2015)
Nigeria fuel shortage cripples businesses, banks and flights - 25 May 2015
4. Okonjo-Iweala who many people in the opposition believe would have done better or saved the economy warned of tougher times as oil slipped low to about $76.
Brace for tougher times ahead, Okonjo-Iweala tells Nigerians -NOV 2014
5. Falling Foreign Reserves
Nigeria’s foreign reserves drop to $29.13 billion
With the above facts, every sane discerning mind will see that Nigeria was already in a mess before the change of power.
The question everyone should be asking now is where are the infrastructural developments that can justify all the money Nigeria made in the past 16 years of PDP's rule particularly in the last 7 years of PDP's rule when Nigeria made alot of money from crude oil sales? Please stop deceiving Nigerians. Buhari haven't done anything different from previous Governments. Under his administration the cost of governance has gone overboard. Go and look at the budget the FG's recurrent budget has more than doubled. Where is the national carrier he promised. He told us he would convert the presidential jets to our national carrier, I guess recession affected it's implementation. Buhari funded Boko haram with €2million and now looking for $1 billion to fight same Boko haram. |

khadaffi: Every sane Nigeria saw that we were already in a mess except your Buhari who promised to change everything. Except you want to blame Nigerians for trusting him. Was ur prdsident not aware of everything you highlighted before promising change?
Are Nigerians now wrong for expecting him to fulfill his promises?
Put in mind that the factors you listed were in place before he made his campaign promises. And most of his party men were in the last administration so they knew the state of the economy before lying to Nigerians. Infact if you can recall even Gej said Buhari will not be able to change anything immediately he (Gej) lost
All these nonsense propaganda will not help him. Its not too late he can still win the peoples heart if he sincerely want to. Don't mind that guy. I'm sure he has been paid to create this thread. If I may ask where is the national carrier he promised? He told is he would convert the presidential jets to give rise to a national carrier, or did the price of crude oil also impacted on the implementation of the agenda? |

9jakohai: 1.GSM was deregulated from the word go....no price controls, nothing....and we went from N7000 Sim to N500 sim...because the GSM companies were allowed to make their profits freely....which freed them to pour in more money freely....
2.Subsidy itself costs a lot of money tpo sustain.
3.Oil subsidy is not sustainable....it does not let marketers and oil companies make enough profit to break even. That is why many workers in fuel stations across Nigeria get poor salaries.,....and why we don't have more investment in things like refineries as well....and why saboteurs divert fuel to other countries...which can be sold for a profit.
See the pictogram below...made when pms was at N87....and you will get it better. Well can't keep making these comparison. Telephone is not PMS as the day goes by people come up with cheaper technology hence, the crash in the price of telephone and accessories. Till date there are villages who don't own phones. Nigerian economy is powered by PMS. Price increase instantly has a multiplier effect. If truly deregulation works in all industries why are Nigerians buying cement at almost double the price in the international market? Firstly, Nigerians are already poorly paid, among the oil producing nations, Nigerians are the least paid if am not mistaken. Because it's key to our economy total deregulation will be anti masses. The Nigerian Government must be responsible. Nnpc must be transparent and accountable. Saudi Aramco like our Nnpc is the most valuable company in the whole of Asia with a value of $2 trillion and it's 100% government owned. We can't leave everything in the hands of the private individuals that care about nothing buh profit. Pure capitalist system has already made few people rich while multitudes are in penury. |

Alexgeneration: Bros you no lie
Sometimes I wonder the kind of graduates we have who can't think.
Dangote has contributed significantly to the impoverishment of Nigerians but I'm shocked that some persons don't see the glaring wickedness caused by this man.
Dangote can never thrive in an atmosphere of competition rather he prefers monopoly Brother it's really unfortunate. Dangote has over 90years mining licence for resources like limestone and the rest while the life span of his factories is not more than 50years. Now, the intriguing part is that he pays #25 per ton as royalty to the federal government. A quick search on Alibaba shows that per ton of limestone goes for about $30 or more. So Dangote pays less than 15cent for something that goes for about $30 in the international market. A quick look at his financial statement shows he made almost a trillion naira between 2010-2015 and paid just #12billion as tax. As a result of the pioneer status government keeps granting him even after 5years of operation. The average returns world producers of cement can boast of is 17%. Dangote makes over 40% because Nigerians buy cement at almost double the price in the international market and as we all know he controls more than 60% of the market. In summary, Nigeria is a plc that has been sold to people like Dangote. And it's all as a result of the systemic corruption. That is the reason our refineries will never work. No wonder wikileaks named his ideology as "Beggar thy country men". |

Please federal government should fast track and work with Dangote refinery to commence the refinery this year
This will help in solving the perennial fuel scarcity that as been come a ritual in our country Bad suggestion. Instead, federal government should set up modular refineries, thereby reducing the unemployment rate and providing a healthy competition for Dangote and Co. We don't want what's happening with cement to happen with PMS. Nigerians currently buy cement at almost double the price in the international market |

Its the amount of money government pays to keep a price less and more affordable for its citizens... example, fuel is suppose to be at 185.7 as speculated above but you buy at 145 per little Meaning goverment pays 40 naira already as subsidy
Meanwhile, can’t wait till Dangote Refinery kicks up as speculated , then I can imagine what the problem of Nigeria is if these issues persist You think Dangote will make things easier? Bros better wake up. Before he ventured into cement we all thought that would be the game changer. Today we buy cement almost at double the price in the international market. Paying over #2billion on a daily basis is the height of stupidity as nation. Can that money be used to set up modular refinery in each state even if the modular refinery can only break even it will be a big win considering the jobs that will be created. |
