When Adam ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, God was incensed, and for very good reasons. Whenever God makes a request of You, it isn't from some unknown and she faraway place, He asks from among You. God only asks for things He has given You, the Bible is replete with examples, Abraham and Isaac, The Shunamite woman, The Samaritan woman, the children of Israel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, lots and loads.
If God makes a request You can be rest assured that You are more than capable of achieving it. The issue is that many people fail to realize their potential, some even go as far as to ignore them, see the case of Jonah. God never does anything coincidentally.

Many people pray and cry for the Spirit and presence of God in their lives, maybe because they have seen the power manifested by the carriers of God's presence and they want it too. But many fail to understand that the presence of God (manifold, active presence) is a double-edged sword. God in His mercy and wisdom has withheld this from many and they get angry and frustrated. This is due to ignorance.
The Presence of God is a term for the active manifestation and availability of God and His power in a person or place. The Presence of God, is where God is, actively. And like You might expect, there is a very low tolerance for sin in the presence of God, many have suffered much because they have failed to realize this. The Psalmist says "... Goodness and mercy shall follow me..." There is a reason why mercy is attached and not only goodness. If the Spirit of God is goodness, then man with his corrupted nature is badness and they are immiscible. An intermediary is needed mercy.
Only when you have been purged of your sin and have obtained the mercy of God can the presence of God be bestowed on you. So if you don't have it yet, don't sweat it, you may still have a work to do in yourself. And follow the Spirit's leading.

Righteous God, hallowed be thy name, great Father. Thank You for today, thank You for Your word, thank You for life. Father please we humbly ask for forgiveness and mercy for we have done wrong in many ways and forms, cleanse us through the blood of Jesus. Father as we study Your word today, please give us deep understanding, grant us Your Holy Spirit as a guide, and reveal the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Dear Followers of Christ,
We can deduce some salient but vague points from the above portion of the scriptures.
Without an intermediary, the wrath of God will burn hot and consume even His people. The worth of intercessors in the course of humanity cannot be overstated.
God has called every believer in the Lord Jesus as Kings and Priests. Rev 5:10. And the main function of a priest is to intercede, to serve as an interface between God and man. Lev. 5&6 talks somewhat about that. We as followers of Christ owe this duty to humanity, we can't just sit back in apathy as God consumes His creation, because we aren't the ones that sinned. We are more than that.
I feel God knew how important this task was and that man would not be able to carry it out to maximum effect, so He gave Jesus that responsibility Heb. 5,6,7 etc. Jesus is constantly making intercession to the Father, and by the fact that the world has yet to be destroyed, I say He has done a very good job.
But that doesn't mean we should be lax and relent, no, instead we are to double down and do better to make our selves worthy of our calling.
Candidly, on the present day and age, living a holy life is not enough... Far from it. They is so much more to following Christ. And they are encoded in the Word of God.
May God give us strength and grace to carry out His will. Amen.
