Costee: P1778 is to be most dreaded because it just might be the beginning of the end of the cvt. But it may well (hopefully) have been triggered by the other codes. There are some two or three variations to the 2007 Altima and before I can make comments on the codes I'd want to be certain we're specifically dealing with your car. This can only be done through your VIN. Are you disposed to post it? Or you may call me to do some brainstorming. I think otherwise - 1778 setting the others. |

Inception: I think i will try that.( when ASA i close from work)
But do you think the Torque converter or transmission pump can cause such whine in such circumstances?
Please note that when the car is in park or Neutral, there is no such noise when i rev the car to the limit. The whine is not coming from the TC, but the vibrations could. For the vibration, I suspect a torque converter clutch shudder. It happens when the clutch engages and disengages very rapidly, sending vibrations across the vehicle. The noise cannot possibly be coming from the pump, because the pump is always pumping, as long as the engine is running. You have said the noise is not there when you rev it in N and P. Pump ruled out. If you have a TCC shudder and your ATF is clean, you possibly have a VB problem. |

Inception: Bros, na Buharinomics i dey practice na
Thanks for your response. I actually have the bearings as my prime suspect in this case. The whine is first heard in first gear, then it becomes very loud(i.e the whine) in second. In third gear, it becomes very faint, then it is non-existent in 4 and 5.
The funny thing is, when the accelerator is depressed when it is in 1 or 2, it becomes very audible( even when the glass is wound up). but when it is in gear 2 for example , and i release the pedal, the noise disappears. If i depress again , i hear it until it changes to gear 3 where it becomes silent.
I too do not really suspect the differential , built rather the inner CV joint, as i hear some rumbling noise and experience vibrations when accelerating to high speeds (45-70 mph), am i am 100 percent sure that it is not a tire balance problem due to the fact that the vibration stops when i lift my foot off the accelerator pedal. i am only thinking that the whine may have contributory effects though through the diff?
As for the mounts, the 4 are all in perfect condition, as i even recently changed the dog-bone mount. What is the relationship this noise has with engine and vehicle speed? From your explanation, it is not looking like a gear ratio-driven noise, since its there in 3rd, albeit lower. Can you maintain an average RPM from takeoff during another test? On the other hand, can you maintain an average speed? For instance, drive hard in first to attain about 40km/h, and then maintain it there while the car gets to 3rd? I suggest you drive it with the lever in 3rd. Trying to pinpoint what drives this noise. With the vibrations at higher speed, TCC comes within radar. |

Inception: Hello guys,
i am in need of a used (or will i say bad) U250E transmission(with torque converter), preferably removed from a 2007-09 Toyota camry to be dashed to me or sold as scrap( i will pay for shipping).
The following criteria for the transmission goes thus:
1. it must have been removed from a working vehicle( by u guys of course ).
2. prior to removal, there should have been no whining, grinding or clunking noise (signalling mechanical failure)
3. the trannsmission problem must be valvebody related( in other words it should have generated valve body or solenoid codes, preferably P0776, usually caused by very dirty transmission fluid), as i know say other sensor codes on transmission body no go wan make u change am
The issue is that the current transmission in my car(2007 toyota camry) makes a whining noise in gear 1 and gear 2 (suspecting either a bearing or planteary gear failure) but is silent on other gears. The gear shifting is seamless, reasonably and transmission fluid is clean
i also suspect that there may be a problem with the differential, as i hear clunking noises when i drive over rough terrain(note: the front suspension is 100% on point, though i kind of suspect the the inner cv joints tho.)
The plan is that i would swap my valvebody and all sensors to this transmission and replace the existing one with it.
Reason for doing this i simply the high cost of getting a transmission(250k no be beans mehn) and i have sufficent technical competence and right tools to do it.
Expecting a positive reply from you guys!
Cc. Kashif, kingreign Shuo! All these conditions for free lunch?! If there is a planetary failure, the transmission will have serious driveability issues. A common problem (which I don't think your model should have) is pinion getting lose in carrier. Another thing to bear in mind is this - there is no planetary gear that is exclusive to 1st and 2nd ratios. There is also no holding member (clutch or brake) so dedicated. This means that if this is coming from a planetary, it wont be heard in 1st and 2nd alone. This noise should show up in at least, one other ratio. If you say bearing well, I am not able to figure out which, unless you are referring to roller ping bearings. Noise from these should be very minimal. Clunking noise on rough terrain will not come from differential. There is no tolerance to allow that. This whining noise may come therefrom, but you need to confirm if it is there when the transmission is engine-driven(accelerating) or wheel-driven(coasting). Finally, the mounts are my prime suspect. |

cocoduck: those materials are metal particles, clutch materials etc, if it is just burnt oil, just drain and put new recommended oil, and you must do a regular maintenance, oils degrade when subjected to heat, and the tranny generates lots of it when for example towing, these oils have friction modifiers and other components in them to ensure your tranny works well, so if you use the wrong oil or don't change the oil when due the oil will become less slippery and loose viscousity, what it means now is that components now rub against each other without lube, what is it? it will simply wear, they will scratch each other and wear out, just as you use a grinder to smoothen steel surface, then your gearbox will slip. So metal particles in a gearbox oil means the gearbox need to be rebuilt or thrown away, if it is simply burnt, you are lucky, but you must not allow it to get to that extent. There is no transmission you will open and not find metallic dust in the pan. It is normal. But if it is above acceptable range, not fine as powder and most importantly, not attracted to the magnet, there is problem. Shavings that come off the case (coming from bearing housing and bushings) are aluminium, so have no love for magnets. If they do not come from the casing, another main source is the TC. Any shop with a transmission flushing machine around? |

Politics › Re: Senator Offia Nwali Is Dead by Kashif(m): 3:53pm On May 25, 2016 |
Marotzke: The body of Dr Offia Nwali just died recently, the soul died December 1983 with the ill fated Nigerian airways fokker 28 crash in Emene (Enugu).
In that flight were his wife (chief Mrs Uche Offia Nwali and their six children including an infant less than two months old). Horrified with this mind numbing tragedy, Dr Offia Nwali then a Senator abandoned his mansions , his cars and all his wealth and fled to his village Ameka Ezza. There he forsook his country home and built a Hut with mud and grass. He didn't want anything again with the modernity that took away his family and life as he knew it.
Everybody understood and commiserated with him. But when he said he didn't want anything to do with women again, the elders of Ameka drew the line. No way they chorused in unison.
Promptly an 18 year old maiden was provided for him for marriage. It would be decades again before we hear again of this great Ebonyi son and a legend in Igbo land.
By 2005 when Ebonyi state was scouting for a worthy son for appointment as Chancellor for Ebonyi state university, the credentials of Dr Offia Nwali towered above every other. PhD mathematics and computer analytical studies ,Harvard university 1966.
The Governor of the state Dr Sam Egwu had to go to his Ameka village to plead with him to come and take the post. By then, the new wife had given birth to six children one of whom is Oguzor Nwali. Thank God for the wisdom of the elders of Ameka. An Oguzor Nwali today can stand and speak for his father and preside over his father's funeral ceremonies. Though bowed by a very grievous tragedy , Dr Offia Nwali remained unbroken. Six children at 42 means he married early. I never knew he was still alive, as nothing was heard from him again. Even thought he was from Anambra. I remember that morning in Enugu, with the plane making noise that clearly indicated it was in distress. I was taken to the crash site weeks later. The cockpit area was intact, but what was left of the passengers' seat were rods. The fuselage was undamaged, so I wondered what could have been responsible for the huge casualty figure. Unburnt clothing littered everywhere. I learnt it was pilot error and ironically, he made it out alive. Everybody was shouting 'Uche Offia Nwalli, Uche Offia Nwalli'. RIP to this great man! |

Yes, it is a CV joint seal but it is not a DIY stuff. You will need special service tool (SST) to undertake that. If you need a new seal, I could help you.
But, but, but think wisely before you start throwing money at it. The prolonged ATF usage might have nailed the coffin of that CVT. It may not be on the road for more than a week. Their belts hate ATF! An OEM belt costs as much as $750! |

If they refuse that way, ask for their nearest union task force office & lodge a report. It may not be refurbished. Not all used transmissions work. Remember, nobody removes a working transmission from a non salvage vehicle. |
