Nothing is a very difficult idea to grasp. I think we use it in everyday vernacular without understanding the material implications.
You can explain yourself

Sure.
But you have a problem with natural processes pulling out rabbits from a hat?! Nonetheless God would have had an unrestrained hand in creating the Universe from nothing ( I'm assuming God has the power to do so). He could write whatever laws of physics he wants to, right?

OgaMadam:
Also the only thing that worries me is that he is the only preacher I know with that type of level of prophecy and power.

Are we all doing something wrong? That no matter how we give up staff we simply can't get where the dude is. Even pastors flock to him as they have bondages that NONE of them can fix.

So if any of that's people never went to him freedom would never have come?

That scares me.
TB Joshua has no coherent message. If one wants to learn about God and his mysterious ways, TB can hardly deliver that. He focuses more on prophecies and miracles which to me is like playing magic tricks when the mind is hungry.

The typical Nigerian believes his lack of progress is due to bondage. It's a fundamental belief that can't be shaken off. So TB and his ilk serve as the modern witch doctor to whom you seek solutions to your spiritual problems.

God is eternal , all knowing right ? Meaning before he caused something to come forth from nothing he already knew the outcome . So the known outcome could have been used to create the unknown . So that may explain the intelligence behind nature . He caused the resources to exist tho

I hope you understand
To be sincere that's a daft post. No intelligence was required to make it.
Romance › Re: How To Get Out Of The Friendzone by Kay17: 7:07pm On Mar 17, 2016
You are mistaken. Friendzone is a virtual space for either indecisive or unattractive suitors/toasters. Now unattractive guys have to go further than holding hands and hoping for a make out session. Probably a plastic surgery will help.

Guys whose advances and confessions of love have been rejected, are in Friendzone as well if they persist.

I don't see any weakness. You do, your materialism remember. Imagination falls under intelligence, the more intelligent one is the more one can use their imagination. I can't and won't dwell on how this world was made by intelligence but I can make the inference that intelligence was fundamental to creating our world given the sort of systems we see. If there's a weakness point it out so it can be dealt with.
But again the reasons why you infer these natural systems were created by God is because they are similar to human made systems, isn't it? And despite the fact that intelligence as used by man, is used with a pre-existing framework.

UyiIredia:
Just as intellect is required to understand preexisting framework, Intellect is required for their making. You can't preclude the idea of a non-contingent intellect simply because of the way ours work. It's insane.
Now you are seeing the weaknesses of extrapolation.

That aside, could you explain how intelligence rather than imagination can be responsible creation from nothingness?
Christianity Etc › Re: What Is Nature Exactly? by Kay17: 12:33pm On Mar 17, 2016
UyiIredia:
An extrapolation you simply aren't willing to make because you are blinded by materialistic bias.
Your reasoning is similar to this:

A dove flies, therefore penguins fly!

You have to recognise the limitations of your arguments. Humans can create cars and ships because we through our intellect, are able to grasp the workings of the Universe. We understand the physics and chemistry of the Universe. We know how time and light works. We know what gases do and are. We understand laws of motion and thermodynamics. Without these knowledge, we wouldn't build anything despite our intellect.

Information and coding lend us knowledge of physical relationships. We learnt them because they surround us in Nature already.

Now if you consider God just prior to the beginning of the Universe, there must have been total emptiness. Total Nothing. No rules or information. Intelligence would have been abjectly useless. God would require magic rather than intelligence.

In conclusion, intelligence needs a pre-existing framework as a precondition to work.

Is Nature intelligent? I would presume intelligence is a preserve of life. Only living things are capable of intelligence in all of human experience.

Are goats a consequence of happy accidents? What is an accident other than unplanned undesirable unintended consequences. Unplanned and unintended by whom?! Now if you notice keenly, the language which you use poisons your thoughts. If you consider events within Nature as unintended or unplanned, you are implicitly suggesting an intelligent designer whose plans have gone AWOL.

When you remove words like happy accidents, you tend to see better.
Christianity Etc › Re: What Is Nature Exactly? by Kay17: 12:08pm On Mar 17, 2016
Nature, in the broadest sense, is the natural, physical, or material world or universe. "Nature" can refer to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general

Christianity Etc › Re: What Is The Definition Of Evil? by Kay17: 11:30am On Mar 17, 2016
PastorAIO:
It seems that Nietzsche sees morality as a means to justify one's condition or way of behaviour.

While I agree that people have many different ways of justifying things that they were going to do anyway, or conditions that they are in, I think his categorisations are too simplistic.
I've met many people, and I'm sure you have too, that once they realise that they've been the victims of a joke they immediately go out to look for another naive person to lure into the same joke so that they won't be the only victims.
Too many people when they have been victims only go on to feel justified in victimising other people. It's as if their victimhood is the green light they need to wreak terror on others. (Israeli Zionists might be an example in point).

In fact i've come to the conclusion from my years of experience with humans that it is those individuals that go around feeling sorry for themselves, feeling that life has been too tough for them, that are the most likely to be callous selfish hateful individuals. You can already see the selfishness in the way that they always talk about how other people were victimising them and how unfortunate their lot has been as if they are the only people on this planet that are suffering.
Anybody that can look around this world and conclude that he/she is the one that is the worst victim of life has all that it takes to be a nasty Terrorist.

If one takes a closer look at the 'Slave' societies that Nietzsche is talking about what you will likely find is that it too is stratified. The More oppression the Master race perpetrate on the Slave races, the more oppression the upper echelons of the Slave races will perpetrate on the lower echelons. It follows that being a victim does not lead you to have a Slave morality endorsing weakness like Nietzsche proposed but rather it makes you more likely to embrace oppression yourself.

Nietzsche was trying to have a dig at christianity but I believe that he failed woefully in his thinking here cos he let his distaste for christianity cloud his judgment.
He was probably making a psychological inquiry into the mind of the Christian. He kept making comparisons between Christianity and Greek culture.

I share his view that arguments about the existence of God outside a religious context is hopeless and useless.
Christianity Etc › Re: What Is Nature Exactly? by Kay17: 10:27am On Mar 17, 2016
UyiIredia:
You can't expect a good answer form evolution-loving atheists who exist on the intellectual low ground. In any case, I believe nature was intelligently designed and when we see man making many coded digital devices that use codes like life does and make machines with lots of interacting parts we are seeing man make complex functional systems similar to life.
But that is an extrapolation! You are matching details of one circumstance with details of another circumstance with the belief they have the same causative effect. It is only right to admit the weakness of extrapolation of human creativity to the creation of the Universe.
Politics › Re: Senate's Rejection Of The Gender Equality Bill: Nigerians React On Twitter by Kay17: 8:03pm On Mar 16, 2016
I think the use of the terms "equality" and "equity" create misleading ideas in most commentators' minds. The Bill does not seek to change or alter the definition of manhood, it reaffirms values the ideal African woman should have. The Bill clearly states it effects the Constitution and our own Bill of Rights.

Nobody wants raped wives and daughters. Yes men do get raped but dreadful criminals use rape as a weapon just as an AK 47 on women.

The Bill reaffirms the right of the father over his daughters on the issue of marriage. The father's permission must be sought for.

As regards employment, African women are not idle women. They contribute to their homes. I think Igbo women farm while the men hunt and trade, while Yoruba women trade while the men farm. The man can't do all the work, so Nigerian women should not be discriminated when working.

Every property a married woman owns belongs to her husband as well. The husband has constructive ownership over his wife's property. If the woman is denied property rights, the man is similarly deprived. Upon her demise, property belongs fully to the man.

Some traditions and customs are really archaic and horrifying. Human sacrifices and the sort. Good married women with legitimate children should be subjected to such conditions and treatment. It is not fair.

The only problem the Bill has is it's potential conflict v with Sharia. Sharia as interpreted by Northern Nigerians. Almost every secular law conflicts with Sharia. CBN Act conflicts with Sharia loool!.

Most people just thought it is a feminist crusade which it isn't. The Bill dwells on the basic.

Has anything ever come out of their endless reaction? Most of our women are lazy politically, they aren't even current on the affairs of this country.

When men are treading on thorns while planning and scheming on how to run the country, they are busy painting nails, bleaching their skins, imitating the life of their favourite celeb and posting almost unclad pics online to get likes.

When the plans maturegrin and things pan out accordingly they(women) will start talking about equality.

Who reaps where he didn't work?

There are alotta things they could have done to ensure the bill is passed but how many of them even know that such bill exist? You will soon tell me that the reason it is difficult for an Igbo man to become president in Nigeria is because they have been kicked to a corner because they're women.
But at least the women should have minimum rights, shouldn't they?

No. (I seriously wonder how you came to this conclusion. huh).

The summary of what I'm trying to say is that our very existence and consciousness is wired around our origin: God. Lack of belief in the higher being of cause is not possible, as it will declassify us as rational beings and will bring all depth of our very humanity to pointless nothingness and irrelevance.

The very basic processes of your life are given direction because your very consciousness understands the existence of God, even though you loftily reject him. This is quite deep if you think about it carefully. Yes. Please think about this carefully, because it is true.
The God you have in mind, is the Christian God who sent his son to die for humanity, right?

God is not a cultural feature, religion is a cultural feature. Different cultures have different religions. Thank you for pointing that out. It looks to me like you're trying to change the subject of our argument.

God as used by me refers to deliberate existential origin of all things.

Again I say:
"A man's culture, his way of life, his life in and of itself, his art(music, literature), his science, his discovery, his diplomacy...the history of his kind, his emotions and hopes and dreams, his advancement, his squalor, his work, his ambition(s). All are fickle and meaningless without God, without divine justice and immortality. This truth is hardwired in us and forms the most primitive basis of our drive and life."
But you accept all other Gods are embedded in respective religions and cultures except the Christian God, right?

Joshthefirst:
I must admit you really are good at finding loopholes when you're backed into a corner.

unfortunately I'm good at clearing out sought after loopholes also.

When I mention God, I refer to his existence, not religion. Existence is reality. Religion is a system of belief and worship, therefore it is secondary to the issue at hand. Thank you. now address the argument and stop looking for cop-outs.

"A man's culture, his way of life, his life in and of itself, his art(music, literature), his science, his discovery, his diplomacy...the history of his kind, his emotions and hopes and dreams, his advancement, his squalor, his work, his ambition(s). All are fickle and meaningless without God(should I say Gods to satisfy you?), without divine justice and immortality. This truth is hardwired in US and forms the most primitive basis of our drive and life."
Again by saying God is existence or reality, you refusing to acknowledge that God is a cultural feature of Western culture. Other cultures depend on their own Gods to find meaning -- Native Americans, Chinese, Indian, African cultures all have Gods or the equivalent.

Romance › Re: Why Keep A Girlfriend And Don't Spend On Her? by Kay17: 5:17pm On Mar 12, 2016
Relationships are role plays like acting. The male and female play the respective dominant and sub roles. Each party even fabricate their emotions to play along these roles. The male ideally provides TO PROVE LOVE while the female proves the same love in a subservient manner by opening up.

The sad part is, it is all acting sometimes deserving a universally recognized Oscars. Neither does it worth living for or investing.

Now that females have equal opportunities in the workplace and bigger pockets that come with it, the subservient role isn't what they are comfortable with anymore. The male experiences an anxiety that his dominant role is at sake. He is not indispensable anymore, since a female can play the role conveniently. he finds himself subservient to women in his workplace. Eventually there is a role crisis..

That's why men are not comfortable with successful women. They are terrible with them.

Kay, I don't think I ever brought up the nature or culture of God, or his religious group. Why are you doing so? How does it change or invalidate my basic argument? Should I substitute God for the creator(s)?

Please can we stick to the issue at hand and can you stop bring up unforseen sequels and distractions?

Maybe I should summarize my main argument again?

Here it is:

You accuse me of being close minded, but you are also so close minded you do not even address the meat and issue of my post but you go off on an off topic tangent.

What I say is that religion and religious culture, was birthed as a result of the nihility of life without God, and divine justice, etc.

The problem with you is that I believe you are ignoring what I'm saying in favor of lighter issues that you seemingly have words and answers for.

Culture, a man's way of life, his art, his life in and of itself, is meaningless without God in the picture of his consciousness and his culture, without divine justice and immortality in convoluted background motives of his living force and hopes.

Accept this first, before we delve into the subset of God and morality in different cultures and religions.
I didn't mean to insult you by saying you were not open minded.

You omit the fact that the monotheistic Christian God is a feature embedded in Western culture. A feature not found anywhere else. In other words don't isolate God from his originating culture.
Christianity Etc › Re: Three Arguments For God's Existence by Kay17: 6:26pm On Mar 11, 2016
Joshthefirst:
It doesn't matter what culture does. I ask what gives meaning to life. Life including culture. Culture, everything, is meaningless without God and Divine Justice and immortality.
If you had an open mind you would see religion itself is a part of culture. The idea of a God, possibility of immortality are rooted within a way of life. Morality for example is justified through God and religion. And morality is cultural as well. People restrain themselves and their actions to fit their way of life

The problem with you is, you refuse to accept the multiple religions in our world and critically think of what way of life they advertise.
