Same history tells us defending Champions struggled to get past the round of 16 until Man Utd broke that jinx only last season.
Everyone expected Milan to be eliminated that season. All the Defending Champions went down the same way in the same round of 16 games and that includes Barcelona(06/07), Liverpool(05/06)  Porto(04/05), Real Madrid(02/03), AC Milan(TWICE--03/04 and 07/08).
Hehehehehhehehe. . . the match should have just been "skipped" by UEFA going by your statement.Infact any match that involves the champion of UCL in the 2nd round should have been tagged a formality.

By same token,we can confidently says everyone "expects" Messi not score against Arsenal since he's yet to score against an English opposition at the knock-out stage undecided  grin

I fail to see where this confidence is coming from.  . . . . . Any team that boasts Nicolas Bendtner and Manuel Almunia on their books at any point in their history, ever, for any reason including under duress from Her Majesty's Police and as the Royal Family themselves as well as the MI-5 should really think twice about preaching to the rest about sexy football they intended to deploy to beat Pep Guardiola's team.
Haven't they been beaten by A.Madrid and held by Almeria already this season in the league?Or didn't Rubin Khazan beat them at Nou Camp? And please don't come with it's a freak "result" response because i am sure if Rubi had met Barca at the KO stage,Barca will be OUT by now  tongue

Plus the difference between Almunia and Valdes is MARGINAL with V.Ice shading it tongue.Valdes in EPL will be conceeding at average of 6 goals per game. cool

Debo save yourself the hassles, are you arguing to have a "i told you so moment"?Know that no matter what you say or posit, the JOB will ONLY be done by the lads on the pitch then you can come back and have a laugh(i pray we can have one).

Meanwhile,my hope is on agent Henry and his hat-tricks of own goals before he joins the rest of the team in celebration. grin

I think its largely in Eduardo's head, physically he is very okay. It did take Diaby about 2 seasons to finally become what we knew he could become though so there is hope for Eduardo yet, it seems we atimes don't recognize the psychological effects of such career threatning injuries on players.
Eduardo also seems to be suffering from our formation change, he is at his best in the box and works well in a 2 striker formation which we are not playing now, at present he is a good squad member to have lets all keep believing he'll put his wobbles behind him soon.
Ramsey was lucky in that it was a clean break fracture, I believe he might be back quicker than we all expect as his young age also helps. Diaby and Eduardo also suffered extensive soft tissue damage with their injuries as it happened at the joints, Ramsey might be back between 5 to 6 months.
It's a combination of many things with Eduardo(the tactical switch of the team inclusive). He seeminly was on his way back and seemed to hit the wall immediately after the "diving" incident and its attendant tablid outcry. He's on a steady decline now obviously and i am cool with his bit-involvement in our games.

Hopefully he goes to Birmingham next week, cop a HAT-TRICK and have a turn around from there on.

The negative side of the Vermaleen card is i would have want Sol rested for the Birm game as we play Barca just 3 days later but there is just no way we can do it now.Can Sol play against Birm and Barca within 3 days or are we a "stressed player " away from seeing Silvestre play against Messi et al?

I heard on the news that Arsene confirmed today that Ramsey is already working unaided, he was already supporting his weight on his leg within a week of his surgery after some new procedure which didn't require him being put in a cast.

One word. . . great character.Last season today's match would definately have ended in a draw.Shows how much the team has grown together.

The key mean today were Song(such a gem) and Denilson(had such a great time doing the simple things and closing the space in the midfield, need to "bulk up" though).

The tactics we employed in the second half is the type i want to see us use against Barca at the Nou;solid defending, quick passing and counter-attack.

For those in doubt about Vermaleen's one match ban inspite of getting a straight red card, here is the clarification:

(c) PLAYERS SENT OFF UNDER LAW 12 (4) and (5)
A Player who is dismissed from the Field of Play for denying a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by physical means or by handling the ball, will be suspended automatically from all approved First Team matches commencing forthwith, until such time as his Club's First Team has completed its next match in an approved Competition.APPLICABLE IN VERMALEEN'S CASE

As against

e) PLAYERS SENT OFF UNDER LAW 12 (1), (2) and (3)
A Player who is dismissed from the Field of play for Violent Conduct, Serious Foul Play or spitting at an opponent or any other person, whether he has previously been cautioned in the match or not, will be suspended automatically from playing football in any match including non-First Team matches commencing forthwith and until such time as his Club's First Team has completed its next three matches in approved Competitions.APPLICABLE IN CASES LIKE SHAWCROSS'

If the ref feels Vermaleen is the last man, then DEFINATELY it is a straight red. There was no challenge though and i felt it was more a clash of bodies.

The lads have proved they are fighters so i hope we can work something out.

No Vermaleen against Birm,Wolves and maybe Tottenham if they don't qualify for the FA CUP S/F.

Diaby should come in for Nasri now while Eboue "works" their left flank. We can still WIN.

I’m a fan. I’ll be an Arsenal fan until I die and if you ask me how that makes me feel about the possibility that Barcelona might meet Arsenal in the next round of the Champions League should we both qualify, I have to say I find the idea unthinkable. It’s always the same on the day of a Champions League draw. Until I see that Arsenal have been paired with another team, I can’t breathe. Proud though I am to be a Barcelona player, I dread the thought of having to oppose Arsenal. I would hate it. I pray for it not to happen.

Inter will be beaten.

3.1 to be precise. This Inter team is so average and Mourhno is just taking his team's flaws off the spotlight with his antics.

One thing though, someone should please tell Drogba to spend more time on his feet as he will definately be "hacked" and he should not generate some unnecesary added time with his turf-hugging.

@Busybody(my own sexiest NL chick )

About the other girl, why do i feel she is part of a big plan to keep the OP on her toes.Thing is,while the world accuses the female gender of being the more sensitive and emotional sex,the male gender practices a more grotesque form of "jealousy" that culminates in all sort of insecurities. What makes you feel he is not coming up with the story of a "saviour lady" to make the OP feels he's also got someone as an option as the dude feels the OP is bothering him for marriage cos she's got someone else making a proposal.(Damn i hope i am making sense)

I may be wrong but i feel if the man has wanted out,he would have long done it.He is 32 for crying out loud.

It still boils down to what the OP makes out of her man,let her do some mind and soul searching and come to a conclusion.8 years of being with this man is enough to know who he is and what he wants from life.
Romance › Re: Relationship In Its 8th Year But No Talk Of Marriage by kaypumpin2(m): 11:59am On Mar 13, 2010
I think 8 years is enough time for you to know who he is and what he wants from life, and from you.I do not want to believe someone who has been straight forward and faithful as you stated is a complete "write off"(thus can't advise you to leave him just like that) so you need to sit down and ask yourself some simple questions:

1)Does he come across as someone who wants to settle down with you?
2)From what you know of him, does he have anything specifically against the institution called "marriage"?
3)Is his "problem" financial(some just get pissed off with the whole fanfare attached to marriage in Nigeria) or psychological(check family history)?

BTW,him telling you to get on with your life if you see another person who is ready to settle down with you could be his own way of "venting" his insecurities as i am sure you inundate him with this marriage gist quite often.

The history of the music industry in Nigeria(if it can be termed that) is replete with musical tussle and brinkmanship thus your "lately" assertion is a misnomer.
A quick run-down of what it used to be in other genre before the advent of Hip Hop and it's so called beefing.

Sunny Ade and Obey had a running battle.Though not a documented fact, the radio phone-in programme that gave Sunny Ade the juju music genre kingship did not go down well with Obey and his fans. Some of Sunny Ade's songs are classic death-blow too. grin

Sikiru Ayinde vs Kollington Ayinla(Jeeez Kollington even made a song to insinuate he slept with a certain lady singer first before Barrister did.(2pac can be said to have beaten the Faith Evans line from Kollington) tongue

Ayinla Omowura,Yussuf Olatunji,Shina Peters/Segun Adewale et al ALL had songs laced with musical innuendos that will make this hip-hop beefs seem like child's play.So you can see it is not a recent development at all.

Within family members that share the same blood-line,we do have squabbles,so how possible is a music industry without beef? undecided

In the midst of all these, there are still artiste like Asa,Nneka,Jeremiah Gyang,Cobhams et al whose musical efforts are top-notch so i think there is a balance.

In Wenger's own word just hours ago:

On playing Nasri in the middle more often…
"If I ask him, he will want to play there, don’t worry. So I don’t ask him. He can play there, but when Fabregas comes back, [Nasri] will play wide."

Go re-watch our match against Chelsea last season at the Emirate and you see the reason i am against this issue of drafting Nasri to join Cesc in the middle of the pack.

Song will not turn a Gilberto/Makalele over night.Plus we have too many defensively indisciplined and gung ho players in our back four to pack our midfield with attack-minded players.

Good display by the lads tonight. It's good to go into the the end of the season on some sort of confidence and i like the way we are going about our job quietly.

One quick point though, for all the gilt-edged chances that Nik missed on Sat,i love the fact he is at least getting into those "positions".Our eventual dire situation after his removal is a pointer to his contributions. That said,he scored a hat-trick tonight and that is good for his confidence(not the pseudo-confidence he feigned on his way out on Sat grin).

Next is Hull and i say let the victory continue lads.

An Arsenal midfield of Cesc and Nasri with Arshavin supporting from the left is starting to look Barcelona-esque, with Arshavin imitating Messi, Cesc imitating Xavi, and Nasri imitating Iniesta. . . . just need to sort out the right wing. . . .I can just imagine how deadly Arsenal would be with someone like Gervinho or Varela on the right wing.
Only in Europe will that midfield formation thrive, but in EPL,we will be so dire defensively and get easily bullied.

I don't believe Terry has lost the confidence of the team as yet - the results are making it appear so.

Believe that if Chelski start turning in the results again, all talk about this 'rift' will be long gone. Everyone was hailing Terry after they beat Arsenal because it was a good result. . . .this is simply a case of looking for a scape goat for the abysmal Chelski performances of late.

Terry is one of the flaws of this side, but not the only one.

Joe Cole is definitely one of them - failing to deliver yet again on Saturday.

Terry has been dire and his performances, though not the best before teh scandal broke out,has hit an all time low since the gagging order has been lifted.A cursory look at him and it is so obvious dude has "lost" it.His performance at SS for the Milito goal was atrocious, and Tevez's first goal on Sat highlighted everything that is WRONG with him right now.You really believe the Terry of old will allow Tevez to take him to the cleaners like that?

That is becoming a cliche and it is boring.

Shawcross probably wouldnt have gotten any card if Ramsey's leg was not broken. I know emotions are running high and
everyone is sad about what has happened to a young lad but I really think the tackle is OK for a game of football
for me. If you body check someone and he goes on to fall and break his head, we will say we should ban anyone that
body checks for 3 months. Emotions are running high but we should not analyze based on emotions.

Its really really bad for Ramsey.
What is becoming monotonous is the "he never meant it" and "he's a good boy" line.Check the below:

May 1st 2006 - Abou Diaby has his ankle fractured and dislocated by a challenge from Dan Smith.

Feb 23rd 2008 - Eduardo has his left fibula fractured and sustains an open dislocation of his ankle joint after Martin Taylor's tackle.

Feb 27th 2010 - Aaron Ramsey has his fibula and tibia broken, his leg left hanging in the air, by Ryan Shawcross.
In four years,a team has witnessed career threatening to 3 of his players and the least that can be done is for these kind of incidents to be stamped out of the game.Aren't people punished for man-slaughter?

And like Martin Samuel retorted, how can so many broken legs be a coincidence? undecided
