It's a sad thing when you listen to people lament about the cost of a bag of Thailand rice which I learnt about 18,000 naira. I quickly did a research on the population of Thailand and discovered Thailand is just 67 million people and I wonder 180 million people are being fed by just 67 million people? Oh what a shame!

The Sultan of Sokoto decried the ban on the importation of rice from this tiny country to feed the 'giant of Africa', oh what a disgrace. Nigeria has no business importing food with the population we have. If we are indeed industrious, with the population, we should have enough to export to other countries and not import.

Charles had to relocate after his clothing shop was razed down in one of the episodes of the constant ethno-religious clashes of that town. And the North is replete with folks like Charles. Now, my dear Ndigbo, if you guys chose to go away, what happens to the old ties many of us have forged with Igbos as friends and family? What about all the properties you own up here in this our lovely Arewa? I don’t know of any another ethnic group that owns more property across Nigeria. I’m sure you people arguably make up over 80 per cent of the nation’s land lords. So, if you all move to the East, would the markets there accommodate all the Igbo traders across the nation’s markets? Because I don’t think there is a market in the country where Igbo traders are not favourably competing with everyone else. May be this is why you have no space in your own markets for other groups in the country. I learnt the famed Onitsha market is exclusively designed for Igbos. And that you dominate other sectors in the East while excluding other groups to the point of total non-inclusion. I have heard people saying you have elective and appointive positions around the country but that it has never been heard that a non-Igbo got an appointment in the East. Let alone get voted for. On the market issue, I have not been there to verify the allegation. But I think, I have never seen any tribe actually getting an appointment over there. Is it because there are no qualified non-Igbos? Or is it because they have not been given the opportunity? And even as I write this, I’m aware that as an active people, running for offices in the North or getting appointments comes with the terrain. You can hardly be blamed for coming out to run for office, especially when you have the number-power to pull that off.

But beyond all these, I’m yet to make sense of your current agitation of not wanting to be part of Nigeria. Haba! This dear fatherland that has been generous to you? This same Nigeria that allows you to forage around wherever you want? The same Nigeria that loves you even after a bitter war? What is it you want that has not or cannot be given to you? And when you say you have not been given key positions in government, I ask this: so what if an Igbo is made the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) again? What exactly did you gain from the last Igbo that was there? Did he pick your calls? Did he visit you when you were ill? Did you even see him throughout his tenure? My “brother” from Taraba was the recent Head of Service of the Federation. I don’t think I was able to see him throughout his tenure. What is the fixation with having “our own” in government when we may never feel their impact? May be there is a psychological satisfaction in knowing that the man in office comes from your village even when you may never get anything from him. I would rather have an “alien” in an office who would remember me than “my brother” who won’t even know I exist. When a man is hungry, would he ask of the tribe or religion of the hand that wants to feed him?

But why bother about “key positions”? What about your governors? Was it not one of your governors who travelled abroad and returned with a picture of his handshake with the president of a country; claiming it is a land mark achievement. Few years back, In the heat of our politicking, some opposition politicians in APC (one of them is a Governor now) were sending false information to the international community about the Nigerian army.

They sent videos of Boko Haram members wearing army uniforms and beheading innocent civilians and the they claimed they were members of the Nigeria armed forces killing innocent civilians. They sent some to amnesty international, thinking they were fighting Jonathan.

Some youths in Yobe beheaded an innocent operative of DSS while those of Bornu were wearing t-shirts with inscriptions like "I love Boko haram". They refused to support the military, they were supporting their brothers. The northern elites weren't left out as they openly and covertly gave support to boko haram thinking it will further their desire to take back the presidency.

Jonathan was confused but tried to be calm.
The Bornu elders brought all sort of charges against the military and Ihejirika while they were shielding boko haram and in fact a leading northern leader once said killing boko haram fighters was injustice to the North.

Petitions fell upon petitions at Amnesty international from the Northern elements. To them, they were doing politics. Jonathan must go and it doesn't matter how we do it, power must just return to the North.

Our military was accused of human rights abuses by Amnesty International while boko haram continues to unleash terror. The military lost credibility and some of our army chiefs were threatened with prosecutions of war crime while no one asks Shekau why he is killing.

United States and her allies were compelled by a particular Leahy law not to sell sophisticated weapons to militaries with human rights abuse tags like the current Nigerian army.

All efforts by the Jonathan administration to lobby US and UK governments to sell weapons to Nigerian military fell on deaf ears while boko haram continued its killing spree in the face of our poorly armed military.

And Jonathan looked eastwards after the south African mess (also courtesy opposition politicians) and found help in China, Parkistan and Russia. But time was against him. The elections are close, the deed is done. The clueless, weak and corrupt tag stuck on him. He was labelled a failure for not being able to protect his citizens. That's politics.

He got the weapons, shifted elections by six weeks amidst all sort of mischievous allegations and the military found its rhythm and in six weeks, boko haram fell and it's armies were chased tail in legs out of sambisa forest.

And he lost the elections despite that.

Now, those who destroyed the Nigerian military in the name of politics have taken over the government. Boko haram is back in full force and those who promised to lead from the front are no where to be found.

Boko haram have been able to regroup and now controls five local governments again and our press who were very active in spreading boko haram gospel back then are suddenly quiet. It was all about Jonathan before now.

The citizens now watch helplessly as the killings continue and those who have the courage to ask questions are labelled as unpatriotic by the idol worshippers who worship men like gods.

The APC led government delegation was in America but to the surprise of some, America bluntly refused to go into arms deal with Nigeria. Those who blackmailed the Nigerian army and accused them of human rights abuses are now the ones begging US to sell arms to them.

An ex-militant leader in the Niger Delta,
Africanus Ukparasia popularly called Gen, Africa
has warned the Federal Government against
negotiating with the Niger Delta Avengers.
According to him, negotiating with the Avengers
is a clear recipe for the emergence of hundreds
of armed groups in the creeks of the Niger Delta
with the hope of benefiting from criminality.
Gen. Africa stated that Government Ekpemopulo
(A.K.A Tompolo) is blackmailing the federal
government to force them to negotiate with him
and his sponsors.
All ex-agitators captured in the Amnesty
Programme have dissociated themselves from
the criminal activities of the Niger Delta
Avengers, who themselves are beneficiaries of
the federal government Amnesty Programme.
The Amnesty office has also dissociated itself
from them.
We are going to work with the security agencies
to fish them out to face the law.” Gen. Africa
revealed how he alerted security agencies earlier
this year of how Tompolo was training these
boys in Ese Ode Local Government Area of Ondo
state, and how 19 metal boats mounted with
double 200 horse-powered engines each were
delivered to prosecute this criminal mission.
According to him, it was published on the
national dailies, but the Nigerian security forces
did nothing about it till it got out of their hands.
He expressed readiness alongside other ex-
militant leaders in the region who supported and
worked assiduously for the All Progressives
Congress (APC) to fight and capture Tompolo
and his Lieutenants for the federal government to
face the law.
He warned that the Minister of State Petroleum
Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu should stop
encouraging negotiations with the Avengers or
any such group as many other criminal groups
would emerge to hold the federal government to
ransom.
Gen. Africa said the move is unacceptable and
would be sternly resisted by ex-fighters who
worked for the APC.
Gen. Africa also accused former President
Goodluck Jonathan of being behind the Niger
Delta Avengers. He said having accepted defeat;
Goodluck Jonthan refused to disarm these
people who promised to destabilize the
government in the event that the APC won. True
to that promise, they are destroying the economy
of the country by bombing oil and gas pipelines
and further polluting the already degraded
environment.
He said unequivocally that this fight has nothing
to do with the betterment of the living conditions
of the people of the Niger Delta region but
simply because they have lost the juicy multi-
billion naira pipeline protection contracts and
billions of naira paid to them by oil block
owners, and coupled with the EFCC cases
against them is what is causing the crisis.
According to him, if Goodluck Jonathan was truly
an Ijaw man who loved his people, why didn’t he
do any meaningful thing for his people? In six
years as President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan
did not commission any project in Bayelsa state.
The last time any federal government project
was commissioned in Bayelsa state was in 2006
when former President Olusegun Obasanjo
commissioned the connection of Bayelsa state to
the national power grid and other projects.
Gen. Africa warned that former President
Goodluck Jonathan should advise his boys to lay
down their arms immediately or be held
responsible for whatever consequences that
would necessarily arise from their criminal

According to Africa, the Avengers who are calling
for the release of Sambo Dasuki and Nnamdi
Kanu are not fighting a Niger Delta cause. He
played down the threat by the Joint Niger Delta
Liberation Front (JNDLF) to bomb the Aso Rock
Villa, the Police Headquarters, Defence
Headquarters and other national assets in Abuja,
Lagos and Kaduna as a mere threat.
He said they know each others’ capacity in the
Niger Delta and they should not bite more than
they can chew. Gen. Africa also warned the
Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) to steer clear
of anything that has to do with the Niger Delta
region because their meddlesomeness could
cause a major conflict between the two regions.
He said the Niger Delta has not forgotten the ill
treatment meted out to the Niger Delta people
under the old Eastern Region. He warned them
to stop including the Niger Delta in their
imaginary map of the Republic of Biafra.
Gen. Africa pledged to work with the Nigerian
military to deal decisively with criminals
operating in the Niger Delta and warned Dr. Ibe
Kachikwu and the federal government not to
negotiate with criminals because if they do, they
would not be able to contain the next round of
economic sabotage and armed struggle in the
region.

Looking for where he makes any statement that will show he cares for his people but I found none only to see him accusing other people of not fighting for Niger Delta. He is more interested in what he receives as amnesty emoluments than what will benefit the average Niger deltan such as fiscal federalism or resource control. He is at best a self-centered saboteur and government agent.

If you had the capacity to reflect deeply you would have first determine whether ECOWAS actually allows free movement. The legal implications of such provisions of the laws. What solutions you have to change the situation. The challenges most Nigeria youths have is to make tangible contributions to national issues rather than fanning the embers of hate and discord. Niger delta Avengers threatened to kill him and he chickened out of his proposed visit to Ogoni land. Another set of Militants threatened to bomb Aso rock with missiles tomorrow, he suddenly decided to escape the onslaught instead of staying behind as commander in chief to handle the threat.
