Politics › Appointment: ‘APC Is Holding Buhari Hostage’ - Newtelegraphonline by KEVIND(op): 8:32am On Jun 02, 2015
President in dilemma as North insists on producing SGF, NSA, CoS

Three days after his inauguration, President Muhammadu Buhari has not been able to make key appointments due to a crisis of confidence that has pitted him against power blocs in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This has made the National Coordinator of the Concerned Northern Professional Forum (CNPF), Dr. Mohammed Junaid, to accuse a section of the APC leadership of trying to arm-twist Buhari to make some appointments against his wish. He accused the APC of trying to use zoning to hold Buhari captive, saying resorting to allotting positions on zonal basis is inimical to good governance.

The president, which on Sunday named Managing Director, Sun Newspapers, Mr. Femi Adesina and head of media of his campaign organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, as spokesmen, is yet to unveil names of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chief of Staff, among others.

But New Telegraph learnt that intense pressure, as well as insistence on certain government positions from intra-party and regional power blocs, might have stalled further announcements of sensitive appointments by Buhari. “There is more to what you think, the president is not keeping the party guessing, rather, a brewing cold war has to be stemmed from getting out of hand”, an insider said yesterday. It was gathered that some powerful Northern power brokers had impressed it on the president to restrict his search for the headship of certain sensitive positions to the region.

The source, a member of the APC Board of Trustees (BoT) caucus, listed some of such positions to that of the SGF, Chief of Staff, National Security Adviser (NSA) and the headship of the Federal Ministry of Finance. He said some young, but powerful confidants of the president had drawn up a list of such positions with the support of certain influential power brokers from the North. “We fear if the president can say no to such persons under the present circumstances,” he added. He said a delegation of some influential Northerners had handed over what he called an ‘A’ list to the president.

“When you say the president as a person is keeping the party guessing, I laugh. In fairness to him, it is not true because we know as a matter of fact that some powerful leaders of the party from the North have insisted on certain key appointments. “Looking at their arguments for such, you will also agree that they might be right to say yes, we need to have these this time around because in whatev-er we do, once precedence has been set, it becomes difficult to fault when successive actions in similar light come to the fore.

“For instance, when today they insist on having the NSA, CBN governor, SGF, COS and even the Minister of Finance, you don’t have to blame them because right from the days of Obasanjo till Jonathan, we have come to realise that these appointments had at one time or the other, resided in a section of the country before. “In fact, there was a time former President Jonathan had his NSA, CoS and Finance Minister all from the South-South. So the issue is not just the president keeping the party leadership guessing, but what is at hand is how we will stem a brewing cold war within us to get out of hand into open confrontation.

“The truth remains that to say no, or simply ignore the demands presented by this group of our colleagues from the North will only be insensitive, that is why we are trying to explore more diplomatic means of concession to one another,” he said. It could not be immediately confirmed if the move by the Forum of Northern States’ Secretaries to Governments to endorse one of their own, the Secretary to Borno State Government, Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda, for the position of SGF was in line with the push as disclosed by the party top shot.

The forum, in a letter to Buhari and signed by the Coordinator of the Forum and former SSG of Niger State, Hon. Saidu Ndako Idris Kpaki, said the recommendation was part of their contribution to support the new administration to succeed in its quest to improve the lives of Nigerians. The position of the forum had raised curiosity; especially following reports that a founding leader of the APC, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, was being considered for the job. For the positions of the NSA and CoS, erstwhile Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazau and Col Hammed Ali, all retired, are the prime candidates likely to get the jobs.

But New Telegraph gathered that on the cards for the positions of Finance Minister is Dr Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, who was Chief Economic Adviser to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. But Junaid, who clarified that he was not speaking for the North, said the APC should be blamed for any crisis and delay over appointments by the president. He alleged that with the zoning of offices, the APC was already holding Buhari hostage. He said: “First and foremost, I have never claimed to be speaking for the North; my attitude has always been what is good for the nation.
Having said that, I think the APC is creating a problem for President Buhari by this zoning mantra. “Basically, I think it is because the party allowed crooks and counterproductive elements from the PDP to join its fold and these persons have now brought in this idea of zoning, which I think is very inimical to good governance. “For instance, the position of the SGF is a very sensitive office and it is the engine room of the government; the head of government must be allowed to pick whoever he feels is best suitable for the job.

When former President Obasanjo picked Chief Ufot Ekaette, it was believed that he picked out of merit and not zoning, so the APC should not try to impose any useless zoning on the president. “The same goes for other offices such as the CBN governor, NSA and all that, including the now annoying jostle for the position of the Senate president.

“Nigerians should be wary of those who want to plant seeds of discord that will cause confusion in the early life of this administration because from the way things are going, if care is not taken, leadership of the Senate might be in the hands of the same ethnic group that has grabbed the vice-presidency; that same ethnic group wants to be speaker of the House of Representatives. But I can bet you, it will not be allowed to happen in this country because we know ourselves.” But reacting to the allegation that the APC was holding the president hostage, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said such a statement should be ignored. “Please ignore such statements; it is too early to give prominence to statements that will not help this administration,” he said.

Politics › Buhari Rejects Tinubu’s Move To Make Fayemi Chief Of Staff by KEVIND(op): 9:45pm On May 28, 2015
There are indications that President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, has rejected moves by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to make ex Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi, his Chief of Staff.

Fayemi did a yeoman’s job as  chairman presidential convention committee committee, and later Director of Policies for the All Progressives’ Congress (APC).
He and Governor Babatunde Fashola were earlier pencilled as ministerial nominees but last minute manoeuvres by some powerful interest in the south west killed the dream.
According to party sources, there are current moves by Tinubu to make Fayemi Buhari’s Chief of Staff, but Buhari has declined instead prefers former military administrator, Colonel Hamid Ali.
However, Yankarireporters.com  learnt that Tinubu is pushing to make Fayemi at least his private secretary, which party sources described as a tall dream.
Ali is  Former Kaduna state Military Administrator. ,During the campaign he was in charge of the crowd funding project for  Buhari’s presidency project and those who should know are not arguing about it because they believe that  Ali has earned the respect to do the work and has an huge chemistry with the General.

It was gathered that while  only Col. Ali was aware of the details of  Buhari’s trip to the United Kingdom, Tinubu and chairman John Oyegun were kept in the dark.
Sources hinted Yankarireporters.com  that unlike President Goodluck Jonathan who made Haman Tukur , private secretary, and has fulanis as National Security Adviser, (NSA) and Defence minister,  Buhari has insisted all his core staff and aides must be core northerners.
Those  being considered for the positions of NSA are: a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazau (retd) and former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Commassie.
Brigadier General Jafaru Isah (retired), is another core northerner who Buhari prefers to be Defence minister.
The former Army Chief is currently the Director in charge of the Security Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

Commassie, on the other hand is currently the Chairman of the northern socio-cultural organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum.

An APC chieftain, who did not want his name mentioned, told Yankarireporters.com , “Although there are about three people being considered for the post of NSA, Gen. Dambazau, is currently topping the list.

Commassie, who was Gen. Buhari’s schoolmate and one other retired officer of the SSS whose name I cannot remember now are among those being considered.

Jafaru Isa was Military Administrator of Kaduna State from December 1993 to August 1996 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha In 1996, Isa created several chiefdoms for the southern Zaria or Kaduna people in order to improve peace in Kaduna State.[2]

In September 2000 he was a leading member of the newly formed Arewa Consultative Forum , a northern political lobbying group. He became a leader of the United Nigerian Development Forum, an association friendly to the election of General Ibrahim Babangida in the April 2003 Presidential contest. He became a director of Bank PHB.

Liar!

As at the time OBJ was leaving office, Nigeria didn't have external debts (I stand to be corrected if wrong) and Yar'Adua left over $40 billion in ECA which sadly is now $2 billion.

NOI is the next worst thing to befall Nigeria after GEJ.

Politics › Re: Cabinet Members Who Failed Jonathan - The Nation by KEVIND: 9:48am On May 23, 2015
'The liabilities are as follows: fuel subsidy scandal; outstanding N200billion fuel subsidy; $60billion debt for Buhari administration; the mismanagement of the controversial $20 billion or $1 billion oil cash; borrowing of N473billion to pay salaries; the depletion of Excess Crude Account to a paltry $2billion and arbitrary granting of waivers. Today, annual budget implementation is less than 50 per cent, capital projects are stalled and most states cannot pay salaries to workers'.

You mean From the aforestated points Buhari will not succeed? $60 Billion is about 12Trillion Naira. Pls where did you get this info from?
If some states cannot pay salaries is it the fault of the federal govt. When NOI was saying the country should save in 2013 for a time like this the governors led by Amaechi refused.instead Amaechi insisted that everything should be shared that the govs can save their money.
Politics › Re: Amaechi Got N257bn From ECA In 2013 - Iweala by KEVIND: 2:24pm On May 20, 2015
Mynd44:
Amaechi did not ask NOI for an explanation. The chairman of the NGF did.

He made that statement not as the governor of Rivers but on behalf of the NGF. NOI needs to get with the program
Ngozi did not make the statement as NOI but she made the statement on behalf of the Ministry of Finance of The Federal Republic of Nigeria. All the actions & inactions was not done by Jonathan but was done on behalf of the Presidency & for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Can i go on & on to give you more examples?

Sis, i'm not saying you can't be creative with small capital but i find it funny when some dudes will just sit somewhere & type Rubbish in name of encouraging graduates.besides what I've achieved thus far was not a help from anyone.but by the Grace of God & the passion i have for what i'm doing. Government cannot blame the graduates for their own ineptitude & bad management of the resources. They can't pass the buck to Nigerian graduates due to their recklessness in managing the economy. Nigeria graduates are excelling in diferent field in other countries where they are opportune to work. Do you know that Nigeria is one of the most toughest & difficult country to startup a business due some indices which i can't state now.

I could stiill remember vividly when my uncle do look at his Friends who coudn't continue with their education & has to stop at secondary school level & start learning some trade with pity.but now if i compare what these guys have achieved over the years,i tend to see that they made a better choice than my uncle. They are more comfortable with chains of busineses & some even employ graduates as their sales rep. So why waste all these precious yrs & resources studying when you know you'll end up hawking sachet water & selling galla. Common sense.

OP you mean after I've graduated & my parent spent about 2.8Million naira on my education in a Private university for 4yrs i should start hawking sachet water at area 1, Abuja in the name of starting small. Pls you don't know anything about Dangote and how he started cos if you do you woudn't be using him as reference.
What you call business is what i refer to buying & selling. Business is much more than Trading or buying & selling.

When President Jonathan asked for the total removal of fuel Subsidy in 2012. He said Nigeria cannot afford to continue with this fraud (SUBSIDY),But Nigerians called him all kinds of names and even took to the street in protest. Jonathan simply knows that by tackling coruption and to fight the cabals in the oil sector you don't need to put everyone behind bars but simply stop the source of all forms of corrruption and which he has started doing but we never believe in Him. I wish the President Elect success in his fight to end subsidy and deregulate the downstream and upstream sector of the economy.

@johnydon22, So because he didn't mention it by it name (xenophobic) the prophecy is false. Nigerians! There's one thing we fail to understand, all the prophets God sent in the Bible days were sent to warn the world & his children against impending dangers & ways on how they should go in order to avoid them e.g Prophet Jeremiah, Amos. But we want the prophet to give the prophecy & also stop it from happening which is not posible. After the prophecy is given the task will be for those who the prophecy are meant for to pray & seek for ways out. Also We tend to confuse Ourselves with the difference between a Prophet and a Preacher or a teacher. Even Moses calling was not a prophetic one.
