i was at home...on holz from bordin school most probably....i think it might have been a saturday or sunday. one of our neighbours came in and asked if we had seen the news which we hadnt cuz the tv hadnt been on all day....being a young lad at the tym i had no idea what the twin towers were and in fact that must have been the first time i ever saw them. i think we also missed the second crash as well. the adults were all buzzin tho |
whats wrong with nairaland? if someone talks about garri they'll be banned immediately but here we have such gross and irrelevant comments flowin freely and no one seems to think this is inappropriate? what kind of moderators do we have on this site?? |
hi all, i would like to inquire, from anyone knowledgeable about the Nigerian military and how it functions, is it possible to have a short service commission extended and perhaps turned into a long term career? what exactly are the options for individuals entering the army on a short service commission? any helpful reply would be most appreciated. thanks. |
Olamide is definitely the wackest big thing in Naija |
byrron: Most commentators here are really dumb. These guys visas remains valid till NOV 2012 hence they haven't commited any crime yet rather they only broke their camp rules and most commentators are already saying craps which is tipical of most educated illitrates here in nairaland and Nigeria as a whole who tends to be reactive in almost every issue without allowing reasoning to prevail.honestly the level of animalistic behaviour is too much. i didnt even read the article but i gathere that the police were not the ones who tracked them down but rather a reporter. these guys are not yet illegals so wats the fuss and why are folks so quick to jump into rubbish talk ![]() ![]() |
davido to me is a one hit wonder and even that one hit was messed up with the lack of creative lyrics D prince is a real wack rapper Ice prince and Naeto C dont belong in this list wats wrong with you guys?? youngsix is a bit hard to judge...sounds good sometimes and not so good at other times |
lol lots of funny stories hear mine. once the girl i was absolutely mad about came to me and asked me out and as my heart pounded furiously against my chest, i cooly replied "im not allowed to date". she looked at me for some good seconds and asked did you just say that? i was a kid btw other experiences include: "contracting" a boner while walking on a main road...full blooded one visible to all..the girl i was with was just laughing..funny thing is i actually didnt like her. then there was a time i liked a girl i didnt really know and wanted her number. so i asked her friend who happened to be my friend as well for the number...she texted it to me. i then replied her telling her how much i liked her friend. i got a reply asking "is this some kind of sick joke?" i checked the number i had texted. i had accidentally sent it to the girl i liked instead... all these happened as a teenager...pretty much been pimpin since i turned xx |
lol a girl asked me out when i was about 13(she was older than me and may have been joking) in high school...i was absolutely mad about her but all i could say as my heart pounded furiously was "im not allowed to date" i remember she stared at me speechlessly for like 10 seconds. needless to say the story spread very well. on another occasion i had a boner on the main road...fully erected..the girl iwas with was just laughin...i actually didnt like her at all tho. |
forget about the misuse of the police by state governors...what happens when you begin to deploy indigenous state police is the propagation of massive internal xenophobia. why is this hard for people to see? the police themselves have their own religions and tribes and languages etc...what happens in the case of say a repeat of ife vs modakeke? state controlled police composed of all nigerians as is done in the west might not be a bad idea though. |
its rather easy to sit your bum down somewhere and begin to yap on about the rights and wrongs of torture. yes torture is not right whether suspected or proven guilty but since boko haram, the bird, has learnt to fly without perching so JTF, the hunter, must learn to shoot without missing. in other words desperate times call for desperate measures and yes the end justifies the means in this particular case as the end in question is the greater good of the collective nigerian society. these JTF guys are out there being killed on the frontline of what most dont seem to realize is a war and not just any old war at that but a war against an evolving, unconventional and extremely vicious fanatically motivated enemy. when one listens too much to western rhetoric on human rights one tends to become silly forgetting that these same human rights champions ran a splendid facilty called guantanamo bay. go try bombing a church in the states and see if they wont water board your buttocks till u start seeing mammy water. |
besides contrary to what you might have seen on snakes on a plane snakes are not nearly as aggressive as that nor would a snake naturally move towards human beings...even if they were released they probably would stay down there in the cargo hold and lastly with so many men on board 27 snakes would be easy to re-capture or kill...these are all docile snakes. |
would people stop being overly dramatic about this? clearly he was not going to carry the snakes as hand luggae...snakes that big cant be carried as hand luggae and neither can you carry stero speakers as hand luggae...the snakes were going to the cargo hold....how on earth would he have made it there to release them for sinister motives? |
without the police force how easy would it be for your neighbour to get up and rape your wife? armed robbers would operate literally at will...kidnappers, murderers.......how can anyone really claim and believe that we will be better of without the police evena s terrible as they supposedly are?? you misunderstood my point about the nigerian police being representative of typical nigerians. what i meant was there is nothing that naturally distinguishes a nigerian police officer from any other nigerian. the same nigerian that is a dr could have been a police officer under different circumstances, the same nigerian that is a lawyer, a president, an armed robber and a taxi driver could have been a police man under different circumstances and vice versa. policemen are not inferior to the rest of us merely by virtue of their uniform so why do people hold the view that they are inherently incompetent?? if nigerians are capable of running world class banks, schools and medical centres then we are equally capable of running a world class police force. all that we need in order to bring out the best of our officers is the right professional environment. its really quite basic... disatisfied employees are generally unproductive. at the end of the day if our police went to south sudan and did all the awful things that they are accussed of in nigeria, why on earth would the sudanese ask them back to train their force? this is such a futile argument. Onlytruth: Nigeria WITH the Nigerian police is already hell. lol |
with regards to the training of the nigerian police i really cannot tell but let us be reasonable. the south sudanese and their international partners have absolutely no reason to play the sycophant to nigeria by unduly praising our police force. the ironic thing is that by casting a blanket of doubt over the entire nigeria police force you indirectly cast a blanket of doubt over the capabilities of all nigerians. you see the Nigerian police are recruited from all deivisions and walks of life in nigeria yet you say carelessly that the police force is inherently inept. yes our police are known for being corrupt and professionally lousy relative to other police forces but then arent their conditions inept and professionally lousy relative to those of other police forces? the fact that they are not being motivated to achieve excellence does not mean they are incapable of it. nigeria without police would be hell. |
sure this is nigeria and we know how stuff works but everyone seems to be merely taking a look at the title and then posting...the article clearly quotes dana officials stating that this is NOT compensation and that there WILL BE compensation coming soon...whether or not this is a gimmick thats wat they are saying and thus the posts on here are off point |
dude have yu ever seen any such thing in the bible? that old man is playing religion based on his cultural preferences...pay him no heed |
i think this topic is very intersting...i once left church to watch nigeria under 20s in the african cup but i doubt i would do that again...few things in life can give yu that spontaneous moment of immense joy...i cant really remember a time i have been more pleased with my existence in life than the day micheal owen scored the winner in extra time against man city...perfect strangers were huggin and just bein sill...i remember clasping hands and jumpin up and down with a stranger old enough to be my father! when torres scored the winner against barca all hell broke lose i tell u! i dont care much for chelsea but the ecstasy of the moment was impossible to miss...here's a counter question tho-why do women demand to be the center of their guys total existence? u myt say yu need help with somethin in which case i must ask wat on earth yu wuld have done if yu didnt have a man in your life?? |
the ignorance is appalling but at the same time unsurprising. shinji kagawa is an attacking midfielder i have been following for sometime because united have been tracking him for months contrary to the opinion of several misinformed posters. this guy is a ver good football and ill tell you for a fact he is going to walk straight inot our starting line up no questions asked! even on our flank the only player i would rate as good as he is nani talkless of chicken legs young or mr one way valencia. |
camp mulla aint that good...they got nice beats and their female singer is good but the rappers are really not that good...btw isnt kswitch a south african rapper?? Sarkodie is the best of the african lot |
unkown...the entitled |
what about the airforce? as a child i wanted to join the airforce but frequent flying has filled me with distaste for it. what are conditions like there?? also would anyone have any idea how to get into the intelligence community? as in secret service and whatever other intelligence agencies we have in nigeria? and does nigeria have any crack troops such as the S.A.S? |
wat i see here is a mix off hypocrisy and ignorance. for the people liberally attaching their own interpretation into the scripture hope yu know that one is a sin too??the behaviour of most posters so far is exactly like that of the pharisees but be informed that yu cannot be saved by works! wen i have tym i myt be back to shed more lyt on this |
^ lol to be honest i havent watched super sport for ages now. my comments are merely in reaction to what i believe are unfair and unreasonable criticisms made in this thread. to start with the OP is actually complaining about a totally different and rather silly point than the more arguable points you make. we can easily agree to disagree on what constitutes good punditry but to me the logic is simple. you can only teach maths if you studied maths. perhaps an engineer myt not be as good a maths teacher at secondary school level than someone who went to teacher training college but the fact remains that he knows his stuff. the same applies here, keshi and others myt not be as eloquent or skilled in communicating their ideas but you cant accuse them of not having ideas in the first place. and lol that parting jibe about not being in africa was unecessary and really does not prove anything, at the tym of writing this i am as well not in africa though at some stage in the nations i cup i probably will be and i am sure i will enjoy everything the nations cup has to offer including the punditry. in comparing african and european pundits dont forget that europeans have access to brilliant bits of technology which help to give info such as a players distance covered, the positions he took up on the pitch etc etc making it much easier to spot tactical errors or accomplishments not to mention the fact that these guys are probably nowhere near as educated as their european counterparts. the comparison is unfair and takes this debate out of context really. |
coogar:my ability to comrehend facts is distorted. facts such as such and such? the guys r going of to analyse matches in the nations cup, the important facts here are 1. that they are leaving their posts in nigeria and 2. they will be analysing nations cup football during that period. whether or not they r actuallty going to be at the matches live or not is really very irrelevant to the point i was makin and to the gist of the debate. i am quite baffled as to why you raised that point and even more baffled as to why you consider it an intelligent one. using david beckham as an example to illustrate a flawed point was indeed a stange and really naive one from you, i refrained from pointing out some of the more obvious fallacies of the logic behind that statement but as another poster has rightly observed, beckham is still occupied in his current profession as a footballer, who is to say whether or not he wont opt for punditry once his career is over? besides who says beckham is even interested in punditry in the first place? these guys are professionals who played the game at the highest level for many years, you should know that playing football is not just about having an array of tricks at your dsisposal or merely being able to trap and pass a ball, if you really think these guys could have got thru many years playing top flight football withourt understanding the game they were playing then you really are very very clueless. of course not all footballers are as intelligent as others but the fact still remains that they are the fellas best qualified to take on the job of analysing the more intricate details of football which the relative lay man like myself might not even be aware of. you say most footballers arent good pundits but then the vast majority of profesional pundits are ex footballers so you therefore are implying that most pundits are not very good which would lead one to question whether or not you have any training or experience in the field of professional football? clearly you don't and by your own logic you are therefore not qualified to be a commentator on this issue. (since you do not have your badges) you seem to take issue with keshi merely for the fact that he often agrees with what his counterpart has already said which shows that to you the job of football analysts is to argue in the studio. coogar:this really typifies your mentality. if super sport do not know anyone better then why are you criticizing their choice? would you rather have someone worse?? clearly you are simply in the mood to complain about something. |
there is nothing wrong with these guys going off to the nations cup for two weeks, can yu state what harm this would do to the nigerian game? obviously super sport or whoever they r going to work for have been in the business of hiring pundits for quite a while so i would think they know what they want in a pundit?? besides i know i enjoy listening to keshi analyse a game so i dont see wer the criticism of his skill is justified. as for the poster who used david bekham to illustrate the point that being a footballer does not qualify one to be an analyst that is obviously very flawed logic since footballers play football as a profession and the best person to have as a teacher of a profession is obviously someone who participated as a proffessional in that field, what you seem not to realize is that the majority of all pundits you see on tv especially european tv are ex players, the most recent example of which would be gary neville, in any case who says these guys(keshi and amokachi) havent got their coaching badges?? and if they havent got these i think the more important question would then not be why they are going off to work as pundits for two weeks, but rather why they are employed as coaching staff of the nigerian national team in the first place. |
Henry46:i hate to sound all groupyish but i know her! lol im so happy for her cuz she has been singing and mesmerizing audiences in church and elsewhere for years, unfortunately i cant access the show from where i am but yaaaaaaaaaaaay |
O.P brilliant piece mate, today i lay on my bed with exactly the same thoughts |
i was genuinely shocked and upset to learn of his death yesterday, gary speed was a player i admired so much especially in his bolton days, a fine fine player. r.i.p gary, there's more to life than football. |
ello house, the issue i wish to discuss is something that i have chosen to call global geo-political socialism. i coined the term myself btw. the question i ask is why do we need visas to travel to other countries and permits to stay there? at first this might appear to be a non issue because we're all used to things being that way but the truth is things ought not to be that way. the first point i would like to draw your attention to is that by mandating visas and permits for non indigenes of a particular state one of the most basic human rights has been violated, the right to freedom of movement! without going into the exact stipulation on freedom of movement i think the principle behind it is of greater importance and that is the foundation of my argument. every single human being was born where they were by chance and did nothin to earn the piece of earth where they were born. therefore it is/or should be legally wrong to stake a claim over any entire region of the world and call it "our country". think about it, on what basis is a country formed? if every country was formed on the basis of being a nation it would make a bit more sense but as it is most countries are composed of several nations and others of almost no distinct nation at all, take for example nigeria, a country with at least three major nations or the united states of america which is composed of fragments of so many different nations that it is hard to point at any one in particular but if one had to then certainly native americans would be the real american nation which basically reinforces the point. the migration of other nations to north america led to the dis enfranchisement of the native indians and the establishment of the united states of america as we now know it. in fact this is not peculiar to any specific country but most nations across africa are comprised of nations which migrated across several regions till they arrived at where they are today. migration has always been a part of human life untill the border controls became more stringent. now the rationale behind stringent border controls is to prevent over-population in wealthier countries which in turn has its own effects but the question here is not really one of absolute right and wrong but really its a question of the greater or lesser of two evils. in this case i think it is perfectl obvious which of the evils is much greater, looking at it from a religious standing, God made the earth for everyone and therefore it behooves us all to share our mutual gift, the earth. politically we all seem to agree that democracy is the way but the principle behind border controls is a contravention of one of the most basic tenets of modern day democracy as defined by the americans, the pursuit of happiness. a human being should be free to wander the globe in pursuit of whatsoever would bring him/her personal happiness without being inhibited by border controls except he or she has a proven negative agenda. i have more thoughts on how the system should run practically but i would end up writing all day, plz share your thoughts on this |
