A gubernatorial aspirant in Kogi State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Mustapha Mona Audu, has declared confidence in beating the incumbent Governor, Yahaya Bello, by winning the governorship ticket in the upcoming primary of the party in the state. Prince Audu who was the second person to purchase the expression of interest form at the APC secretariat in Abuja, urged the party to adopt the primary that the stakeholders were calling for. “Whether the primary is direct or indirect, I’m not bothered by it. Although it’s good to listen to what the people and stakeholders want, especially since most are leaning towards direct primary, I advise the party to heed the advice given to them. Nonetheless, I do not feel threatened either; and I am sure that whichever one holds, I will win it. It is not a do or die affair,” Audu said. The son of the late Kogi State Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu, also said he would carry the legacy of his late political icon and father. The Kogi state governorship primary is slated to hold on August 29.

[quote author=imagrg post=79374997]My Personal Encounter With Jesus On the 8th of June this year, last weekend precisely, I composed a write-up titled "Stop Calling Jesus God" which I intended posting on Nairaland but because there was no network at that instance, I had to leave it on my notepad pending when network would be back. My intention was to prove to the world, using my own misconstrued ideas, that Jesus was a mere messenger of God and not God Himself; what stopped this publication was beyond my imagination: my Samsung Galaxy Tab A suddenly became so hot like it never had been. So terribly hot even without putting on the internet. I began to wonder what was really happening. It later occurred to me to wipe off the write-up. Behold! When I deleted the piece, my tablet that was previously so hot returned to it normal state. This led me to believe that my opinion could be wrong. My new position now is that 'JESUS IS LORD!'. I now have no doubt about that! PRAISE THE LORD! Who be this one sef |
Political developments have sometimes influenced which language was the lingua franca, or common language, at any given time. How has God seen to it that such developments do not make his Word unclear to people? An example from the past helps us to find the answer. The first 39 books of the Bible were written by Israelites, or the Jews. They were the people initially “entrusted with the sacred pronouncements of God.” (Rom. 3:1, 2) However, by the third century B.C.E., many Jews no longer understood Hebrew. Why not? Because Alexander the Great had expanded the Grecian Empire by means of his conquests. (Dan. 8:5-7, 20, 21) As that empire spread, Greek became the common language of many of its subjects, including Jews who were scattered over a vast area. But as many Jews became Greek-speaking, understanding the Hebrew Scriptures became more difficult for most. What was the solution? About the middle of the third century B.C.E., the first five books of the Bible were translated from Hebrew into Greek. Translation of the rest of the Hebrew Scriptures was completed in the second century B.C.E. The resulting collection of Bible books came to be known as the Greek Septuagint. The Septuagint is the first known written translation of the entire Hebrew Scriptures. The Septuagint did much to make the Hebrew Scriptures readable to Greek-speaking Jews and others. Just think how thrilling it must have been for them to hear or read God’s Word in what had become their mother tongue! In time, portions of the Bible were translated into other common languages, such as Syriac, Gothic, and Latin. As readers considered the Holy Writings in a language they could understand, no doubt many came to have a favorite portion, just as we do today. (Read Psalm 119:162-165.) Indeed, God’s Word has continued to endure despite changes to the common language. |

Parents—Help Your Children Become “Wise for Salvation” Knowledge of the holy writings is important. However, more is involved in imparting spiritual education to children than simply teaching them about the people and events of the Bible. Timothy was also “persuaded to believe.” In the original language, that phrase means “to be assured of” or “to be convinced and certain of the truth of something.” Timothy knew the Hebrew Scriptures from infancy. But at some point he was convinced by compelling evidence that Jesus was the Messiah. Put another way, his knowledge was reinforced with conviction. In fact, Timothy’s conviction about the good news was so strong that he became a baptized disciple and joined Paul in the missionary work. How can you help build conviction in your children so that they are persuaded to believe, as Timothy was? First, be patient. Conviction does not come about overnight; nor does it pass from you to your offspring simply because you have been persuaded to believe. Each child needs to use his or her own “power of reason” to develop conviction about Bible truth. ( Romans 12:1.) You as a parent play an important role in that process, especially when your child asks questions. |
A Federal High Court in Abuja has reversed the withdrawal of operating licence of the Daar Communications PLC over alleged breach of broadcasting code. Justice Inyang Ekwo on Friday ordered the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, the Attorney General of the Federation to revert back to state of affairs before May 30, 2019. Justice Ekwo asked the parties to appear before the court on Thursday, June 13 to show cause why the motion on notice challenging the action of the regulatory agency should not be granted. In an ex parte application brought by its lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Daar PLC operators of African Independent Television (AIT), Raypower FM, Faaji FM and Daarsat had on Thursday asked the court to order status quo ante bellum pending the determination of the main suit. The NBC had in a letter dated May 27, 2019 accused Daar of breaching the Nigeria’s Broadcasting Code with its Kakaaki and other programmes and subsequently withdrew its licence. In the suit against the NBC, the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, the Attorney General of the Federation, Daar claimed that it had since the licence of its television and radio stations been conducting its operations in line with Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution. It therefore asks the court to make an order “restraining the defendants from blocking, jamming, stopping removing from air and/or interfering with the air waves of the plaintiff/applicant (Daar Plc) in any way and manner however called from invading the premises of the plaintiff/applicant (Daar Plc) or closing down, viet armis, the said premises, its operations or broadcast services, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed along with this application.” Enumerating grounds for the action, Daar Plc said the defendants had on April 16 in a Gestapo-style invaded its premises and pulled down two buildings and gates leading to its operational office in Asokoro, Abuja worth millions of naira. |

The Commissioner of police in Ondo state, Mr Undie Adie, has said that Deji Adenuga, an ex-convict, who allegedly set his girlfriend house on fire, killing nine members of the family will be charged to court for murder, and for the death of his former wife. Adie told journalists that the accused person popularly known as Oluodo, had on April 23, 2019, at about 0200hrs, set a house ablaze, killing all the nine occupants who were asleep during the incident. He said the accused now in Olokuta prison in Akure, told the Police that his grouse is that one of the family members, Titi Sanumi, his former girlfriend, jilted him after investing so much on her. Undie said eight of the victims of the arson who were mostly children, were later confirmed dead, while the only remaining victim who happens to be the girlfriend of the suspect, is still in a critical condition in an undisclosed hospital. He further said that it was after manhunt that the suspect was arrested on April 28, 2019, in Ijebu Ode where he absconded to after committing the crime. He described the accused as a notorious suspect known for committing heinous crime, especially murder as he had earlier killed his former wife named Abiye, sometimes in year 2000, which led to his being remanded in Olokuta Prison. The Police Commissioner said the accused escaped with other inmates during jail break in 2013, but now that nemesis has caught up with him, he will face the law for the earlier murder case and the recent one. |
