It doesn't have anything to do with respect for his mother. Have you thought about the embarassment for the girl. we are not talking about the US here were people are not desperate to marry. Imagine someones mother finds a "wife" for him. He leads both mother and girl on. Both families start to call each other in laws and then he does not want the relationship anymore. I just think it is selfish. His mom is still a human being and should learn to understand that no is no. There is nothing diplomatic about hurting someone all the name of keeping mom happy.
We are talking of finding a wife. Finding a wife does not translate in to "marrying" her! My mother can suggest a girl to me without letting the girl know! It is wrong if she goes and starts making marriage arrangements without due consultation. I think the bone of contention here is who should do the finding? Where selfishness comes in is if after she suggested her to me, i then promise marriage to the lady and arrangements kick starts. I am yet to ask her hand in marriage, i'm yet to be committed to her, it's just like the relationship i have with any other girl, it's just that "mumsy "suggested her. Like i said in my first comment, if i date her and really find nothing wrong, i could give it a go! If after trying and it wont work out, i find a fault or make one up, but my mom knows at least i tried. . .

BTW OP is yet to make up his mind. So momsy wants to handle the contract of "finding". . . It's very very easy for him to ask his mom to back off. But he wants her to "understand". If he'd wanted to damn the consequences, i dont think it's hard to say NO!

So he should lead the girl on just to please the mother. How about telling his mom to go play with her husband so he can find his own wife.
It's obvious he has a deep sense of respect for his mom! He doesnt want to lose his mother's support over a wife issue and he doesnt want her to choose for him either! Telling her point blank and to the face "to go play with her husband" is not only rude, but insulting. Some guys are very close to their mothers and from personal experience, mothers do this out of love and are scared most times that they will lose their beloved son to a foreign lady, therefore, they endeavor to put up a diligent search of a wife for their son. A woman they - sometimes erroneously- believe is the "best" for their son. If you dont handle such matters with care, you'll lose your mothers affection and later in life, when you have a serious misunderstanding with the wife you chose, the wife you mother suggested comes to mind and you cant but wonder if you actually made a good choice of wife! You would have actually eliminated such feelings if in actuality, you checked out the girl mumsy suggested in the first place! Mind you, mothers too make a good choice, and they are by far, more experienced than us in matters of marriage. Even after marriage, we still go to them for advice, so i dont see it wrong if they suggest a wife for you. It's just that most times, we fit don go promise one kele say we go marry am, before momsy go scatter the runs. So the actual dilemma is how you will renege on a promise made, and your sense of pride. Most people believe they are old enough to make decisions. While that might be the case, i believe they should also be old enough to accept suggestions and weigh issues critically, from a different point of view. So in other to avoid "unnecessary" conflict, agree with her to later disagree!  wink
I have been living outside Nigeria for years though I used to return occasionally but now am back and I want to stay here invest the little I have, settle down, get married and build my own family. My headache is finding a wife, due to my absence here for long, I have no girl just last month my sister found one for me,
Mistake number 1. Being too hasty to settle down and build a family! That requires a lot of patience. You dont have a girl friend as a result of your absence, no that you are back, what's the excuse? huh The girl your sister will find or any girl at all that has a premeditated knowledge of your stay abroad will even give you more headache! You are her "maga" in the making. Concentrate on your other projects and you'll find a wife in due time. Desperation leads you no where, except of course to your own detriment! Avoid loopholes! grin
since then we are in relationship but the girl is putting a lot of pressure on me to hasten the marriage process so she can settle down with me, I barely know her and I cannot tell if she is faking,
when I complain to her about some of her misbehaviors she simply replies me that  we are not married yet so I should do fast so she can do as I wish.
For the fact that she said "we are not married yet so I should do fast so she can do as I wish." tells me that she is FAKING! A lady that truly loves you has your own best interest at heart, even above her own. Pressurizing you to hasten the marriage process is bullshit, and is a very common statement from ladies who have lived useless lives and are looking for an innocent man to share the consequences of their abject lives with! Reject that motion she is setting, else that'll be Mistake number two! Dont even tell her you need to know her better before you marry her, because she has already shown you her real self. . . Free of charge! grin
Just last night I called her and she said she was in a wake-keep with a friend, I didn’t like that so I asked her to go home because it’s late, she cuts the phone and stopped returning my calls.
Dropping the phone on anyone is rude, disrespectful, objectionable and -for someone you plan on getting married to, who is still thinking of the possibility of asking you to be his wife, i'll add- sensationally stupid! Even a faker would obey you and go home, just to make you believe she is obedient. But this presumptuous good-for-nothing already thinks she has won the "Battle of the new wife" and is making hasty and whipper-snappish decisions! WTF! Mistake number 3 is marrying a lady that doesnt give a shit about your concerns for her safety. She just gave you a sneak peek preview of what she is gonna show you when you marry her and that my brother, is what? PEPPER!  grin She already told you "we are not married yet so I should do fast so she can do as I wish."  Do you really want to marry a lady who will do as she wishes? Am really confused, will she change with time or
Tell her i said she is what? A FOOL! Asking forgiveness in the morning? How about telling you where she was going to in the first place? How about a reasonable explanation as to why she needed to be out late at that hour? How about calling and asking for forgiveness for cutting the line on you, immediately it was cut? Even a faker would call and tell you "it's network!" But this girl is irrevocably DUMB! She knows nothing. . .SMH! What the hell does she know about love? Love is not selfish, Love is not proud, Love does NOT look out for it's own personal interests. Love is NOT "I LOVE YOU". Forgive her, and then do what? End the gaddamn relationship! She WONT change with time, she'll only get worse and then worst! wink

Romance › Re: My Friends Are Very Possessive - Suggestion Please by Killz3(m): 12:01pm On Feb 08, 2012
egift:
Chia! See me dey visit Romance section. Anyway, I have 2 little issues I need suggestions on. Please endeavour to address them separately - Thanks.

1. My girl-friends are very possessive
I have few female friends I do chat with and are friendly too. But my problem is that they are very possessive. They act as if they own me or will soon own me. Sometimes people who know me will tell me how some of them brag about me (it sounds as if I am engaged to them or I promised). Me do make that mistake of promising marriage, when I do not plan to. But when I hear those, I really do not have problem with people being ambitious - but am very uncomfortable with it. They don't know each others and never met.
Pay them no heed! It's their mouth so let the run it. They are possessive because every girl likes a guy who treats her right. If you have no intentions of marrying them, dont discuss the issue with them and above all make sure they dont feel "used". Nothing irks a lady more than the notion or feeling of being used and dumped. If you can avoid a lady making such statements about you, then kudos to you. They dont need to know each other. You are on a mission to find a "wife" and you dont need their permission! "Ladies" are everywhere, but a lady to call "wife" is rare and you have to search diligently for her. The day you find her, their possessive rights to you ends! Yes. Their bullshiting will stop!
egift:
2. The quality I seek in a wife
All I want from the lady that will be my wife is one that will make me happy - just make me laugh, (her talk, actions, even how she carry herself). Love that will not cheer me up will be useless. But all the people that surround me are just interested in themselves - buy me this, get me that and none bothers about what I want or make effort to please me. Even the one am considering, don't also have that as her primary effort. Should I tell them what I want? Am trying to avoid being deceived with pretense. Or will I get my desire (dedicated effort to cheer me up at all times) when I marry or hit great wealth?
Please maintain your nature. I like when you said you dont want to be deceived by pretense. There's a very high probability and also possibility of them becoming sweet and acting all nice to you if you make your intentions pinpointed! A wise person sees calamity and conceals himself, so thinking she'll change when you marry or hit great wealth would not be so wise because, you already know who they are and what they are capable of. Great disappointment comes from thinking a stone will turn into a loaf of bread! That lady is out there, you just have to keep searching. Maturity is an essential quality of any one hoping to get married, male and female alike. If they are not matured to your expectations, DONT! A wife makes a home from the house you gave to her. A wife is not interested in herself alone. Any lady that is not interested in pleasing or making happy a guy she calls her boyfriend, will do worse as a wife! Your reasoning is ok. Just dont get despaired so quickly. The world we live in has been turned on it's head. Good "things" are rare and hard to find, but as always, the patient dog eats the fattest bone! wink
@ Killz,
Quite the diplomat there.
And everyone remains happy too

, cept the unwanted chick I suppose.
Yeah! When dealing with a mother who is so strict pertaining marriage, you have to be diplomatic, else like the OP said, "you will turn the family into party of PDP and AC matter".

Now this is when it gets more interesting. Since it's the mother that brought the lady you eventually rejected, the onus lies on her to appease the lady! By the time she must have appeased 1, 2 or 3 ladies who you found fault(s) with, she'll understand and leave you to make your decision. When deciding on a lady to marry though, make sure it is a lady that has deep rooted respect for your mother. Else, if you renege on the agreement you had with your mother to get a wife who respects her, i'm sorry to say that even CPC will join the ensuing fracas! tongue tongue

My chairman, state of finances is subjective o! A man who got married 5 years ago and a man who got married last month will surely give you conflicting responses and ideas! An idea that never fails is : Plan ahead! If you fail to plan, you have incontrovertibly planned to fail! No matter what your state of finance is, cut your coat according to your size. Dont spend to impress, as you alone will suffer the consequences even after receiving cheers and accolades from people who attended your gathering! What ever it is that takes care of you on a monthly basis, add another 120% to it and that should give you an idea of what to expect. Change is constant. Economic situations are deteriorating. Align and position yourself, your pockets, and your bank account(s) to change accordingly. . . IMHO!
