Interesting thread, we cannot fully appreciate where we are going, the future, until we understand where we come from, the past.

This is why this thread is important. I will go back to what tafawa balewa and awolowo said in 1948 and 1947 respectively.

Tafawa speaking said,' since 1914 the british goverment has been trying to make Nigeria into one country, but the nigerian people themselves are historically different in their backgrounds, in their religious beliefs and customs and do not show themselves any signs of willingness to unite, Nigerian unity is only a british invention!'.

Now papa Awo, ' Nigeria is not a nation. It is a mere geographical expression. There are no nigerians in the same sense as there are english, welsh, or french. The word Nigerian is merely a dsitinctive appelation to distinguish those who live within the boundaries of Nigeria and those who do not?'.

Is there any sign today that this amalgamation of many nations would work?

Few weeks back there were protest over the palpable corruption in Gej's govermnet, fuels subsidy and all other matters arising. some part of the nation protested, the other part felt this is there SON, lets support him.

The yoruba have been crticised for the protest, forgetting that during obasanjo's time the yorubas were also his greatest critic. Where is the unity in all this? Solution?separate!

If you listen to Akintola (may his soul rest in peace), you will understand Yorubas problem with the Igbo people. Have things changed today as seen by Akintola back then?

I would appreciate a real discussion rather than insults.

Compare with the utterance here too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y1Zpk4DrlA&feature=related
The details of his message aside, Those guys from the days preceding and immediately after independence knew how to talk to their people.

Akintola, ( ignoring the sectional rhetoric) spoke in the language of the people, very clearly too.

Not only that, he actually explained complex political concepts in his language, damn! It's a shame that we don't make politicians like that anymore.

I agree. This country should'nt have merged at all. It's probably too late to do a peaceful split now tho. Oil is still pumping and the elites benefitting from the oil wealth on all sides won't give up without a fight, they will sacrifice Nigerian people to protect access to their nest egg. It will be very messy.

Oh I did not mention your religion, I just gave you a pilgrims title due to your use of Arabic phrases, nothing wrong with that or is there?

I'm not an expert, I'm a learner and a searcher. follow the link below and buy Wande Abimbola's book "Ifa Will Mend Our Broken World". I'll also recommend: "Orisa Devotion as World Religion"

Both books were written by authorities, in this case I'll defer to them, read, then we can discuss.

I'll like to add that it's strange to call, Wole Soyinka, Wande Abimbola and the amazingly erudite Oluopona of Havard uncivilized (he edited the second book) but you are entitled to your opinion.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0965973905

Nothing wrong with uncivilized it's not really a bad thing in my view, it's a state of being, not very easy to define objectively too, I bet the man with the opele can philosophize and teach you a thing or too about life, maybe impart some life changing wisdom too.

Anyway, grab the books.

As per toppling governments, leave that to warriors, there are enough of them around. Ifa nor be politics.

La ilaha illa Allah! We are all aware of where kafiris will end up.[/quote]Alhaji Ndubuisi Chukwuma,

I'm not sure why an Idol, icon, a representation of an idea or ideal is abominable.

I'll rather tell you why Ifa will heal the world.

It does not consider your religion abominable, it will rather edify and teach you than label you hell bound.

It has little time for violent proselytizing

It cares more about the ideals of Orunmila, probably more than it cares about Orunmila himself.

bayooooooo:
Sowore has made my day!

How could a Minister come late at all not to talk of being late for more than 90minutes? It's unthinkable. You just don't go late to events and start giving useless excuses about flight delays or whatever.

The approach was not just effective, it sent a message, and a very powerful one at that, that these meaningless, wasteful and utterly useless town hall meetings in US while, ignoring the real epicenter of our trouble which is  right in Nigeria, would no longer be accepted.

A minister flying first class over all over the world organizing town hall meetings! Of what use is that town hall meeting? who do they want to convince, persuade,  re orientate, on a policy which finality of Jonathan's position is not in question? Three ministers in foreign ministry alone when there is no pax Nigeriana anywhere! We are not a world power, not an african power, weak military except to harass peaceful protesters, we are not even an economic powerhouse, we are not fighting war and we have three ministers in a ministry. What manner of expensive diplomacy is Jonathan running?  Jonathan is wasteful!

Can one see how civilized police treat people? I leave it to your imagination to fathom what would have happened had the event been staged in Nigeria. The useless, corrupt and incompetent police boss would have threaten them with treason!
I couldn't have put it better. Especially the bit about 3 ministers. Still they can't see it, yet they want to cut subsidy waste?
PoliticsRe: Omoyele Sowore Disgraces Nigerian Politician! by Kilode1: 3:42pm On Jan 20, 2012
Not my style, but they needed that. Bunch of looters.

Sowore was staring down military dictators as Student Union president before he left Nigeria. Those questioning his ability to do this in Nigeria should do a little research.

1. They should find their hotels and make every trip a big headache for these looters.

2. They should have a big poster of Ademola Aderinto's bloodied lifeless body ready at the airport to meet these govt. murderers.

3. They should have poured a bucket of red paint or cow blood on that hideous minister.

More like nemesis catching up with Nigeria if you ask me.

As someone who was old enough to understand words written on a newspaper at the time of the Oputa panel, it's mind boggling to see that Biu was given a job after what happened during the Abacha years.

But why am I surprised sef?  undecided

This is the same country where we allowed a jobless Mohammed Abacha to keep part of his Fathers loot.

We made Obasanjo president decades after the shoddy election of 1979

We give national honours to incompetent failures like Ringim and co

In April we voted the failure of Bayelsa in as president.

I think I'm just fooling myself, I already know this country cannot progress when we reward incompetent idiooots with promotions. No organization can progress that way.

At topic: We have discussed this several times on NL. To understand the concept of religious plurality WRT yoruba social, religious and cultural worldview, you need to come with a mind ready to learn.

The Irunmoles don't hate.

Like Baba Wande Abimbola brilliantly concluded, Ifa (the concept, not necessarily the religion) will heal the world.

Those who will learn will learn, casting pearls before swines is a fruitless, thankless effort.

So after all these, Deziani and the Custom director willl still have a job.

No nation, Society, Business or organization can progress when you have no punishment for incompetence.

Obj ruined the country by presiding over a shoddy election in 1979, he came back.

Ringim cannot stop Boko Haram, we gave him National award.

Deziani don't know what goes on in her ministry, yet she still has a job.

Oga custom, watched as people siphon fuel to Togo, he kept mute, he's still getting salary.

Goodluck Jonathan ran Bayelsa account to the ground, we still voted him president.

Yet we want to move forward?

The rhetoric from most of his buffoons shows what the conversation might sound like in their inner chambers.

BTW, Atedo peterside (member economic team) made a similar remark on TV about Lagos consuming too much fuel while jigawa is paying for subsidy, as if Lagos is not 4 times an average Nigerian state in population.
