You are blessed.

There are non-theistic religions and atheistic religions. Eg La Veyan Satanism and Raelism are atheistic religions

Buddhism , Confuscianism, Unitarian Universalism are examples of non-theistic religions

What holes are you poking in Christian doctrine? You people know so little about Christian theology and are very delusional if you think you are poking holes .

Atheism starting from its definition has holes in it . The 'Lack of belief in God ' definition makes rocks , tissues , even the planets atheists . And when you lack something that means you are expected to have it . Meaning that atheism is like a deficiency. See? Holes everywhere !

You are saying two conflicting things.

You say LIFE IS VALUABLE yet you say you would not hesitate to end it all if it becomes unbearable cheesy

This means life indeed isn't valuable to you. It's not it's limited nature that makes it valuable and if indeed this limitation makes it valuable why then do you see only pain, selfishness and suicide in it?

Is taking life more valuable than keeping life? You just said taking life (suicide) is more valuable than life itself (under certain conditions).

My worldview says that there is no condition that should be more valuable than life. Suicide is never an option even when all is seemingly unbearable.

You are still declaring the hopelessness in atheism for all to see wink grin

Sciencewatch, kingebukasblog, felixomor you need to read this with me o. My eyes have seen my ears. cheesy

That is why most atheists are under-achievers in many areas of life . The nihilistic thoughts about life will always preclude atheists from doing something meaningful with life .

Please have you seen grizzlybear bro ? I hope he hasn't committed suicide grin

If you're not a Christian, the question is not meant for you.

Did Jesus Christ preach/teach people to be skeptical? If yes, where in the Bible?

I'm directing the question to Kingebukasblog who said being skeptical is part of christainity.

Acts 17:10-11
10 The brothers sent Paul and Silas off to Berea at once, during the night. When they arrived, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11 These Jews were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they eagerly received the message, examining the scriptures carefully every day to see if these things were so.

1 Thessalonians 5:20–21
Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good.

1John 4:1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Then my next question will be, why are we having Christian deists, Christian agnostic and even atheists, what brought out these philosophical ideology today?

These are outsiders trying to get involved with Christianity

I swear

I can vividly remember that Ebuka wasn't always in support of evolution

I didn't support evolution because I was a progressive creationist . It's not rocket science grin . I changed my view because I discovered good reasons to accept it . Not that I'm obdurate that evolution is true , I'm just open to the idea because it's rational . Alvin Plantinga , William Craig were all open to it and I'm an ardent follower .

Stop giving yourselves any credit . Discussions with atheists here have no influence at all . I've always been open-minded , been an avid reader of books , always trying to add to what I know in any branch of knowledge everyday .

But have you noticed that atheists now understand that religious skepticism is not atheism . They now have knowledge about the deists and other non-religious theistic positions . The reverse is actually the case : I'm the one influencing you . grin

I will admit, you are intelligent but not wise. Knowledge divided by understanding equal Wisdom. Google search (intelligence without a brain) I'm sure you will find many examples.

[/quote]

The mind(The non-physical part of you ) can exist without the brain .

I think I understand what you are doing : You are using "intelligence" in lieu of "mind"

That's okay then .

It is the Universe that is showing us that, not a man in the clouds.

I've explained this before , you have a panentheistic view of the universe . You are not rejecting the existence of God . You just have a different view of God : The universal mind/universal intelligence/universal spirit is the non-physical part of the universe

There is no man in the cloud - this is a deliberate misrepresentation of the Christian worldview

And I never said your god is evil, I said your god is responsible for evil by default having created the devil.

God did not create the devil for the purpose of evil so God is not responsible for evil . Satan acted on his own volition , it was his expression of freewill that makes him commit evil .

If a pastor comes home to find his wife raped and chopped to pieces should he....
Persevere and thank god for this extreme test of faith?
Blame god for not protecting his wife?
Blame his wife for not believing in god enough so that god would have protected her from evil?

Just a thought but I already know what a god defender will say. "God works in mysterious ways. Its not for us to understand"
Illogical cop-out

The joy of the Christian is eternal life . Death was defeated when Christ resurrected . The martyrs experienced obnoxious deaths . Even Christ Himself died in an ignoble way : He died on a cross like a common criminal .

So as an atheist , why is murder right or wrong and on what basis did you make your judgement ?

Are you sure your God's actions potray peace, patience and harmony? His actions in the bible says other wise.

"Sa 15:2 - This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.
1Sa 15:3 - Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’ ”

If murdering someone isn't an act of love but of hate , violence , wickedness, then what do you consider this injunction of total annihilation of people including infants and animals to be? Where is the patience, peace and harmony in this act? Do you consider the killing of infants an act of patience and love?

To prevent further evil in the future . And from the bible , we can see that people who escaped the judgement (per se ) went on to commit heinous acts against humanity .

I think you should read 'Is God a moral monster' by Paul Copan . The book answers these questions easily .

I see totalitarian and draconian acts in your God's nature. Acts that are very immoral even by his standard that you listed earlier.

God gave them ample time to change and they failed to . We have discussed this before mbok

Says just same thing as your definition of objective morality which i agree with. Let me explain with a question below.

What makes murder wrong?

God's nature provides a reference point for moral values and duties . Moral goodness like love , peace , patience , harmony etc are of His nature. Murdering someone isn't an act of love or of peace and harmony but of hate , violence , wickedness - these are incongruous with the nature of God .

So as an atheist , why is murder right or wrong and on what basis did you make your judgement ?

Is it wrong because God said it is, because it is etched in some kind of universal law or there are certain implications or standards that define the litmus tilt of such action?
Are God's action good because these actions are objectively good and coincides with a definite objective moral definition or are these actions good because they are God's?

They are good because they are in accordance to God's nature as the epitome of moral goodness . I tried circumventing the euthyphro dilemma but you still brought it up anyway . The third option is that God's nature is the standard - His laws stem from His nature as the paragon of moral goodness .

As an atheist , why is something morally good ?

All right i am back now.

I wanted to address this since afternoon but i hate typing with my phone.

Welcome back smiley

You have just defined for us what it means to be objective and subjective which is rather good.

But the point of my question was not what it means to be objective but what makes an objective morality objective.

Are there elements or implications that an action will possess before we can quantify such an action as objectively good?

Yeah . It is independent of a person's views or opinions and would be true no matter the situation

Example

Murder is morally bad

What makes Good to be good?

If it is in accordance to God's morally good nature and His moral laws . Remember , it is moral goodness not just good .

You can watch this video of William Craig vs Sam Harris video with some great explanations by William Craig on objective morality it answers a lot of questions .

Religious skepticism is open to all - Deist , Christian , Muslim , Hindu , etc . Most of my ideas were reformed because of the works of Christian intellectuals past and present which I came across . It has nothing to do with atheists (Religious skepticism has absolutely nothing to do with atheism and Atheism is not against religion ) . I just use the atheists to access how far I've come from time to time though .

Classic KingEbukasBlog, jump from Judaism to shinto, to deist later to Hinduism. I'm trying to explain what it means to be non-religious to adherents of different religions . Feigning ignorance again ?

He asked what would be the judgements of non-believers . And when someone reincarnates , the judgement is in form of how the person lives his next life .("Whatever you sow , you must reap" ). I called upon the President himself , who has a clear understanding of reincarnation in Christianity to explain further if need be .

Going to Israel is what sealed my faith and made me a full blown athiest like 4 years ago. I was astonished when I realized that the people weren't christians, they were anti christians. They hate christianity and christians (i.e the practicing Jews). Some of the people were interested in knowing why we left Africa to come and look for evidence of a Jesus that never was, that's the impression I got from those that I interacted with. They felt we should be Jews instead of christians because they had more evidence of their Jewish figures/ history than that of Jesus/ christianity to show us.

Jesus Christ is hated by Jews .

Luke 4: 24
Then He added, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown.

He is also listed as a false messiah .

Learn to read. This is the opinion of a professor based on a 2009 poll conducted by Israel Democracy Institute that contradicts the latest Gallop poll.Israel Democracy Institute poll in 2009 said that 80 percent of Israeli-Jews believe in God. The Gallop poll was conducted in 2016.

This is a person that is just giving his OPINION of the poll. He was not part of the people that conducted the poll, he was just giving his own opinion on how he assumed people answered the questions which may or may not be true.

These are Rabbis and professors who actually live in Israel and understand their own people . It is rational to accept what the experts say while you are just making noise . Non-religiousity in Israel is actually different from what being non-religious means . There are official religious categories which if you are not part of in Israel , you'd be seen as non-religious wink

Its similar with Shintoism in Japan , the adherents say that they are not religious simply because they don't see Shintoism as an organized religion . Some Confucians in China would say that are not religious because they see Confucianism as a lifestyle not a religion .

Just the other day a twitter follower said that she isn't religious and when I asked if she was a deist , she said "no" that she isn't deep into religion but maintained that she is a Christian . That means the non-religious to her is someone who holds religious beliefs with less ardor than usual .

Dalaman , there is no generally accepted meaning of non-religious in fact .

You have no serious argument again .

Will you keep quiet. I just showed you research from some of the most reputable polling firms that show that Israel is one of the least religious countries and you are still spewing thrash.

Majority of people in Israel are NON religious. They do not believe in any Religion and do not practice any religion. Chew on that and stop sounding like a person that can no read.

Those that believe in the bible are a minority in Israel today.

Even you link shows you don't know what you are saying.

Please read this article and understand the report and stop arguing abeg

http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Gallup-Israel-one-of-least-religious-countries-398823

They made a survey and the data were drawn from people who responded to it . Are you saying that 8.5 million of Israeli-Jews responded to it ?
Please tell me you are indeed joking . grin

Excerpts from the article .

Prof. Yedidia Stern, the vice president of research at IDI.

Aside from those who are self-identified as either religious or secular,

“the rest are traditional but not necessarily religious by self declaration,” he explained.

“Eighty percent believe in God.

Are they secular or religious? If we are speaking about [halachic observance], then many are not.

But if you ask if they believe God [is] relevant to Israeli life and they believe in it, then Israelis are a very religious kind of country,”
he said.

According to Uri Regev, a Reform rabbi and head of the religious pluralism NGO Hiddush, Israel’s “religious politics and established, coercive, rabbinate are the main forces responsible for undermining Israelis’ Jewish identity.”

Those who replied that they are not religious were “mostly expressing their dissociation from those who claim to represent the only authentic and binding Judaism, and from their interpretation of Judaism,” he said.

Asked about the WIN/Gallup International poll, Dan Ben-David, president of the Shoresh Institution and an economist at Tel Aviv University, agreed, stating that it appeared to present “a binary distinction [i.e., yes or not religious] rather than one of degree – so maybe most people abroad believe in God, and thus consider themselves religious.”

“Here, on the other hand, the religious ‘categories’ are already taken by the entire spectrum from traditional to ultra-Orthodox, so even if you believe in God but do not count yourself in one of the officially religious categories, then your tendency in Israel may be to say that you are not religious.”

Here are explanations of what it means to be non-religious in Israel by Rabbis and professors . You didnt read the article and you are jumping up and down with excitement ; grin

You don't know what you are saying. According to Pew research non religious Jews constitute the largest percentage of people in Israel.

http://www.pewforum.org/2016/03/08/israels-religiously-divided-society/pf_2016-03-08_israel-01-01/

As you can see the the Hiloni constitute the largest percentage.

From.Wikipedia:

Hiloni (Hebrew: חִלּוֹנִי‬), plural hilonim (Hebrew: חִלּוֹנִים‬), derived from the Hebrew word hulin, meaning "secular" or "mundane," is the term used in Israel for non-religious Jews, some of whom identify with Jewish secularism and secular Jewish culture.[1]

Most Jews living in Israel are non religious.

From one of the leading Israeli newspapers.

Israel Among the Least Religious Countries in the World

Only 30% of Israelis say they are religious, survey finds; Thailand is most religious country in the world and China is the least.

https://www.haaretz.com/news/world/1.651616?v=150EF83CD4A46B2F18DD7E0CB6522268

Where does it say they don't believe in the bible ?

Surveys only cover a little percentage of the population and then extrapolations are made .

People who identify as secular are mostly adherents of modern orthodox Judaism
