Im not sure what there is to celebrate? The same people are still been massacred all over Nigeria and their resources have been stolen. How can someone be celebrating jumping from the pan into the fire?
In the same Nigeria, they are been killed by herdsmen, Boko Haram and Niger Delta militants. In the same Nigeria, their Oil and has wealth have been stolen
This is just a celebration of poverty and enslavement
This thread is not about whether Ikwerres are Igbos, thats talk for another day, this thread is about whether Ikwerres are Edo's.
Some people have been running around the social media shouting that the Ikwerre people are descendants of Edo migrants from Bini. They say that Ikwerres are Bini. Is there any merit to this claim? Im not an Ikwerre man but you dont have to be, to know that there is no connection between Ikwerre and Bini.
The simple fact proves this is that all Ikwerres have Igbo surnames. Its possible for a migrant to forget his culture, maybe his language. But one thing a migrant never loses is his surname.
So if the people shouting that Ikwerres are Bini migrants cannot explain why the Ikwerre people have Igbo surnames, they should peddling that nonsense story
oyatz: Irrespective of what the ACF, Northern Youth or any group are saying, there will be an election in about 30 months time in which Nigerians from different parts of the country will contest for the Presidency.
Of course, but it wont matter how many people contest for the Presidency of Nigeria, only the two contestants of the two main political parties, APC and PDP have any realistic chances of winning. The two main political parties are already plotting their moves towards 2023 and they know that the North will be the decider. That is why both will select presidential candidates from the North
Between APC and PDP, the party that chooses its presidential candidate from the South will lose to the one that chooses from the North. The only way power can rotate back to the South after Buhari has completed his 8 years in 2023 is if APC and PDP field Southern candidates, and PDP is not likely to do so because it will most likely lose to APC
hollah123: u don't know anything about politics n it's obvious u haven't been checking d political permutations in Nigeria since 1999....if u check d trend u will realise it is rotational n d North hasn't have it back to back b4,north are comfortable once they become d president for 8 years n VP for another 8 years
check this out
obj/Atiku........north as VP Yar'Adua/Jonathan.......north as president Jonathan/Sambo......north as VP buhari/osinbajo......north as president
can u see the trend n how it goes,so as it stay now it's obvious d North will want to b VP now so they can have d presidency back again
south/north......north as VP
so any party that can reasonably do this with reasonable politicians will have it come 2023 so the Atiku/obi is dead on arrival cos the north knows d implications n they can't afford to b out of presidency for 16 years if south later get it
You are talking about the days when we had only one dominant party, PDP, which decided where power would go. Things have since changed. You dont seem to understand. There is a movement currently going in the North for the North to retain power beyond 2023. ACF and the Northern Elders Forum have already backed that move. There no single Northerner or Northern group that has backed any power shift to the South come 2023. It is only a blind man that cannot see that the North wants to retain power beyond 2023 and PDP can see it too. That is why PDP is most likely going to field Atiku. Should APC field a Southerner, you will witness the North desert APC for PDP that allows them to keep power.
Most people in Nigeria already know that for anyone to even have a remote chance of being president in 2023, that person must be the presidential candidate of either of the two main parties, APC or PDP. All others parties stand no chance at all whatsoever.
While most people in the South believe that power should rotate from North to South after Buhari completes his 8 years in 2023, they may not know that APC and PDP have the exclusive right to zone their Presdential ticket wherever they want.
It is an open secret that Atiku is still nursing his life long ambition to be President of Nigeria and it was recently reported that Atiku's son said that his father is consulting on that matter. Atiku remains by far the biggest heavyweight politician in PDP and is likely to be the party's Presidential candidate come 2023. Atiku is also likely to choose his running mate from the SE/SS area where his party is strongest in the South, and probably an Igbo man, perhaps Peter Obi again.
This will make it impossible for APC to choose anyone from the South to be its presidential candidate as it is well known that the North is not yet ready to give up power to the south. Anyone thinking that a Northerner can like a Southerner more than a fellow Northerner is kidding themselves. It will be political suicide for APC to make either Tinubu or Osinbajo its presidential candidate in 2023 because both men will fail miserably in the SE/SS area as well as in the North against Atiku. This will leave APC with no alternative than to field a Northerner to counter Atiku in the North.
APC and PDP will both field Northern candidate in 2023.
Goodmarlian: I just watched a video on YouTube a middle belt man was being interviewed by channels tv (you can check yourself)he poured out his mind on how buhari has opened Nigeria's Borders for fulani herders all over Africa to enter Nigeria acquire land and settle thereby killing and displacing the original inhabitants of the land their main target is the middle belt these guys have invade thousands of villages in the middle belt and they are really progressing their main agenda is dominate the middle belt .imagine imagine opening Nigeria for millions of fulani all over Africa.sometimes i wonder if we are being jazzed in this country because we just watch thing happening like it's nothing do we watch these men drive us out of our land. As usual people will come and attack me and call me ipob normal I don't care.
This is no news. People like Nnamdi Kanu have been shouting about Fulani domination, subjugation and killings for a long time but those who love to hate call him a mad man.
CrimeKsmart: I have to watch the video before I comment.
With what the coward por.n star said in that video, it's now evident that he is being used by politicians. How can you advocate for one Nigeria when your own kinsman is in government and suddenly turned against the one Nigeria you preached about when he is no more in government.
It's high time IPOBS woke up to the reality that Kanu is a scam and he is only fighting for his own pocket and the interest of some politicians and not the interest of the ipobs as he has made them to believe.
It's just so pathetic that he has made the ipobs hate other tribes with passion and also made them see Yoruba and hausa as their problem rather than their leaders.
Biafra can never be achieved under the por.n star cum scammer
So you left out the important part where he was speaking out against the killings going in Nigeria?
He is making IPOB hate other tribes while those killing people are making IPOB love other tribes?
Go and sleep you have nothing to say. Just the number of armed people that are killing other people in Nigeria is enough excuse to make IPOB agitate to opt out of the slaughter house called Nigeria
CrimeKsmart: Now I understand you find it difficult to comprehend. Why trying to bring herdsmen into the picture when nobody knew about them.
Since he was agitating for segregation, why protest when he knew it could tear the country apart?
Whether it was going to tear the country apart or not, it is people being slaughtered and it is the duty of everyone to stand against senseless killings. The point here is that Kanu was not protesting that Nigeria stays as one, he only warned in the video that if the government did not stop the killings, it would tear the country apart, and it eventually did.
One of the biggest reasons why Kanu and IPOB put forward for the agitation for Biafra is the incessant killing of people by Northern elements such Boko haram and herdsmen
You guys talk in nonsense. Did you hear anything like herdsmen during Jonathan tenure. Mtcheww.
Replying you is a waste of time. You can't twist the fact that Kanu is a scammer.
The oritest was about Boko haram and herdsmen killings. The only reason why they keep bringing this video is that Kanu said that if the killings by boko haram did not stop, it would tear the country apart.
The protest its self had nothing to do Nigerian unity
Optma88: A few years ago, before Nnamdi Kanu started championing the breakaway of the south-east region, before the clamour for Biafra became his sole agenda, he was an advocate of a united Nigeria.
At the time, Goodluck Jonathan was the president of Nigeria and Kanu was based in London, UK.
In this video of a protest held by Nigerians in London against the Boko Haram insurgency, Kanu can be seen condemning those who were “determined to tear the country apart”.
Kanu had said: “We are protesting about the killing of families by people who are determined to tear the country apart and it is not something we support, it is not something we would like to see continue.
“If that continues, it will lead to a violent disintegration of the country, there will be no more Nigeria for anyone to go to. There will be no Nigeria for anyone to refer to. We cannot allow this nonsense to continue so something must be done.
Even Ojukwu was once a fan of one Nigeria. Everyone has the right to change their minds. Most people who are agitating for Biafra today once believed in "one Nigeria" before the realised that the concept was a fruad. So I dont know why this is news.
Here is Nnamdi Kanu protesting against Fulani herdsmen killing his people in Nigeria. How many people did you expect him to allow to be killed before he started an agitation to get his people out of the Nigeria that allows herdsmen to massacre people at will?
ThatFairGuy1: Southern Nigeria Should Come in one voice first and see as some of them(the politicians as most of the emirs are not Against it.) left with no other option.
Even if Southern Nigeria came up with one voice that Nigeria should be restructured, it is still impossible to restructure. The reason is that restructuring involves changing of the constitution. To change the constitution, you must get 67% or two thirds of both the upper and lower houses of the national assembly as well as two thirds of the state assembly of all 36 states in Nigeria to vote for restructuring. The core North, who dont want restructuring, control over 40% of the national assembly and 13 states of the federation, it is impossible
The only people who talk about restructuring are those who dont know about impossible it is to achieve
ThatFairGuy1: When I said it can't work, I'll give you insights. We're entangled in Nigeria already, all the tribes has many of their businesses, properties outside their region. These people are the big fishes that if they do not support secession, it'll never happen. They'll never support it because they won't want to lose their properties, businesses and properties. Do you think if the Kings, politicians and business men/women supports this current agitation for biafra by Ipob it will be this hard for the organization? I have never seen a big man that talk in support or agitate for Biafra, only commoners do.
Can you be more entangled than UK that has been together over 300 years but Scotland got referendum in 2014?
Can you be more entangled than Eritrea and Ethiopia thst were together over 400 years but Eritrea left Ethiopia in the 1990's?
Can you be more entangled than Catalonia that has been with Spain over 500 years but want their independence?
But Nigeria that is just a little over 100 years old is where you are entangled? Laughable
ThatFairGuy1: Forget about secession, on a serious note, it can't work. Restructuring is the solution. We're not ready because we haven't come with one voice yet.
And how do you hope to get Nigeria restructured when almost half of the country dies not want it? Restructuring is largely a Southern Nigerian thing. Up North, they dont want to hear anything called restructuring
No region , I repeat, no region in Nigeria is sufficient enough to be a country... Not at the moment.
Develop your region to your own state first.. That's more than secession
Really? Did these Regions not exist when there was no Nigeria? All the 6 geopolitical zones can exist as seperate countries. Some may have it easier than others but can all exist separately just as they did before Lugard came to create Nigeria
Yujin: While it's true that widows are not given a free hand in this part of the world, we all know what's up. It's the same thing in most parts of the world excluding the Western world. However, her situation is the same all over the world. Once a queen, you can't remarry. It's not a thing of tradition. The stool has to be respected. What will her new husband be? A king? A husband of a queen without title? Will they live in the palace or will she go to his home and abandon the palace? Think of it. Some positions come with a huge price. It's either we look the other way and let sleeping goats lie or we continue killing them as atonement. Lol. HRH Obi Ikenchukwu, Happy birthday to you. Kanka o! Nne-Obi anam ekene o!
I still wonder why they changed his title from Obi to Dein
bigpriik: It pains me how these guys have brought shame to igboland they have made us look like land grabbers ,it's pains me how this bini people(as they claim) flew through the air and landed in igboland ,adopted our language, our names and counting system ofu to iri loosing theirs .please and please ikas and Ikwerres should never be part of BiAfra I will denounce my biafran citizenship if they are included in BiAfran map, there is absolutely nothing to gain if they are part of BiAfra they don't have direct access to the sea, they don't have good arable land they occupy a very small land mass.
I stopped taking Rivers people serious when I discovered that we have egbema people in both river and imo state , the ones in imo claim they are Igbos the ones in Rivers claim the are not Igbos yet they are one egbema people you see politics over common sense? .
I prefer biafra with aniomas ( 50% accept theyr Igbo origin ),obigbos and opobo they rest are irrelevant,I would rather have have a sincere fulani or Hausa man in biafra than having an Ikwerre or ika man.
Are you aware that the Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Uche Okwukwu, is an Ikwerre man?
Are aware that former Governor of Rivers, Chibuike Amaechi, an Ikwerre man, has said many times on national news that he is an Igbo man?
Are you aware that well known Ikwerres in the entertainment industry like Monalisa Chinda, Tonto Dike have all said they are Igbos?
Are you aware that an Ika man called Ralph Uwechue wad once President of Ohanaeze in the 1990's? He was also Biafra ambassador to France during the war
Below is the video of Ikwerre people showing total support for Biafra
Dont let some stupid online masquerading as Ikwerres so that they can deny being to confuse you about the truth
emmy512: Good day, I've come to notice some activities perpetuated by people who just registered on this platform within days or a week. They post obscene photos, tribal comments or posts that are hurtful with the idea that since it's a new account even if it gets banned they won't feel it.
I belong to other forums that i think has features that should be incorporated into this forum for sanity sake. 1.upvotes : the relevance of a comment determines it's position, post with less relevance or marked indecent go down and we know people rarely read comments to last page often.
2. Time frame: I registered on a forum years ago and couldn't post videos or pictures, comment on certain threads etc because i was new to the forum so all those features i was restricted from untill i fullfiled certain conditions which included number of likes or upvotes on my comments, the number of days I've been active on the platform etc. I believe the ability for a user on this forum to do anything should depend on their rep, Why am i saying this, I was with my kid sister going through news and while scrolling i came across a pornographic photo and the user was just registered last night.
I believe we the users should be the ones handling the option to delete a users comment, lets say if 15 people mark your comment offensive it immidiately gets deleted, we don't have to wait for the mods to do simple things like this as we are the ones suffering from such obscene things. Even misleading posts should follow this same criteria where if marked as misleading by 20 people it gets deleted this will help curb the nonsense habits of bloggers clickbaiting us. And as for the tribalist we have here that take pleasure in insulting other people's tribe or persona they should be given bans immidiately, even if they decide to create new accounts to do what they do they time and effort it'll take them to be able to do such wouldn't be worth it.
Also a users profile should include the number of times they've been banned and a brief summary of why they where banned and other cases against such user filed by another user. This was before you do any financial transaction with anyone you should be able to ascertain how responsible they are.
I also understand sometimes some genuine people need to tell genuine stories anonymously, stories that we all benefits from,. Request should be made to Mods informing them of the anonymous post they want to post . The mods will now grant or reject such request if accepted they would then grant the user permission for such. In this situation the mods end up having identity of the user wich isn't ideal so any other corrections or recommendation should be made in the comments concerning the anonymous post.
If this things are implemented we will have a clean nairaland thanks. I also had no idea where to post this so Mods can put it in the right section.
I disagree with you, especially about allowing a number of users to determine what post should be taking down. The reason is that Nigerians are very different people, what maybe tribal to a Yoruba can be inoffensive to an Igbo man. What can be offensive to an Hausa man can be mild to an Ogoni man. I use myself as an example, I comment a lot about Biafra but there are certain people in Nigeria who find any mention of Biafra to be tribal, offensive and unpatriotic. But most Igbos like me do not see it that way.
I think that best thing is to let the mods do their job and hope that NL has done a good job of selecting mods who are not biased. Thats my cents
Cosbyrich: In recent time,I have seen racial and tribal topics taken down or hidden. I say Kudos to Seun and his mods.More grease to your fat elbows. Thanks in a million.
Nigerians are not one people. What may look like a tribalistic topic to a Yoruba man may not seem so to an Igbo man. We only see things through "ethnic eyeglasses" because our world view are very different.
purelyobjective: Should I call it mind control or something else, because it is so annoying seeing educated youths vying for Atiku as a possible replacement for Buhari in 2023. Why can't youths think outside the box? Must we recycle old corrupt men only for same people to complain about the government?
Why God,why am I an African?
What do you want the youths to do? To come out for a revolution that will see them get arrested, shot, killed? All for a Nigeria that has no hope of being saved? Most will not do that
This is one of the reasons why they dont teach Nigerian history, so that people won't know that it was Gowon who introduced unitary rule with decree 14
