Dee60:

I am still wondering how US will escape being accused of sectionalism, bigotry and division.

US Secretary of State came to Nigeria and met the Sultan (head of Muslims) and the northern governors, completely leaving out the south and the reps of the Christian community. What do you call that?

Many people hate Trump for his antecedents, but he is sometimes saying the truth! It is all rigged to arrive at their OWN selfish wants.

Even a black President of Kenyan descent will do this kind of thing to Nigeria!

Well, if they achieve division and war in Nigeria, maybe Kenya can rise to become Africa's biggest economy! But thank God, Nigeria is wiser. And by God's grace there will not be war in Nigeria.

Why this glaring sectionalism, I still ponder.

But the South is not missing anything. It is actually the South that is helping US today in many respects. If you take the Southern doctors out of their hospitals, their medical segment may possibly collapse!

I am not a sectionalist. I dont belong in bigotry, but I just wonder at this blatant charade by the US under an African American president! Maybe they will explain this to us. I am yet to understand.
I always wonder why we have a well formed and functional group for Northern Governors, Northern Lawmakers etc, how about forum/group for Southern Governors etc.

My happiness is dat someday we shall all remember PMB for taking giant step in dealing with our corrupt Judges which even d Military/Obj cudn't do. History will remember dis day dat PMB tried his best in exposing those dat have kept dis country in dis darkness, backwardness and HUNGER but Nigerians cos of religion/ethnicity refuse to support him.
Pls PMB shud release those corrupt Judges and Pls those corrupt Judges shud also free Dansuki n Co. No be suffer, we never see anything.
Lubbish as my igbo pple will say.

The way some of us defend every action of this Government we seem to forget that President Buhari and the Federal Government of Nigeria are two different things. To me, it is not good to love the President of Nigeria more than Nigeria. Buhari with his good Integrity and intentions will in just a few years no longer be the President of Nigeria but the Federal Govt of Nigeria continues. In Leadership/Govt, precedence is a very powerful force, that is why lawyers can quote a case that happened more than 200 years ago to defend a new case today.

Today a "good" Buhari with "good intentions" is raiding high ranking leaders in the country in a Gestapo-style operation at odd hours cos of fighting corruption, good; but tomorrow you will have a "bad" Buhari as President and with "bad intentions" do the same thing, my people, it will be very difficult for us all to speak up against it then. That is the power of precedence; that is my worry.

Sometimes it is not what we do that is the issue but how we do it.

Good one there but I dont see how this is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) effort from Jumia. They are not the first to have eshop for Made-in-Nigeria. There are many of them out there that have started long before now, many of them a wholly for Naija made products.

They should not use their dominant market share to intimidate other up-coming businesses.

How are the mighty fallen. That I believe is the case for our much used (maybe not much loved) YAHOO. In it's 16 year life time, it has fallen from a peak value of above $100b, to what Verizon is buying off today for just $4.8b. This is after its four years mishandling in the hands of Marissa Mayer as the CEO. She will be stepping down and a combined severance package of about $219m waiting for her. Where YAHOO is headed after now is better imagined.

Education / Re: Peter Azor-Okorugbo Graduates From Near East University In Nicosia, Cyprus (Pics by kinharold(m): 9:53pm On Jun 22, 2016
There is a big irony in our higher education arrangement in this country. If you check well, it is possible that this young man was already "jammed" by JAMB, or prevented by the post UTME screening before he decided to go to Cyprus as a last result. Many young Nigerians experience that situation.

Every year more than 1.5m young Nigerians sit for JAMB UTME, a larger percent of the candidates fail (according to jamb standards) and yet a larger number dont have space in our higher institutions. Most of these young Nigerians seeks refute in Ghana, Cyprus, Ukraine, Togo, Benin, and other countries. At the end we lose hundreds of Billions of Naira in Foreign Exchange to these countries. And quiet ironically, these "cast away" and "unqualified" candidates come out tops in those foreign schools.

Are we not hunting ourselves.

Instead of lowering what the ND contributes, why not raise what others contribute?
Imagine Osun n Kaduna bring gold, Ondo and Lagos bringing bitumen and oil. And the northern states to bringing in lead, tin, iron ore and copper.

That exactly is what the system has refused to encourage. It is almost impossible to do so with our current skewed Federalism and over reliance on oil revenue shared monthly.

True Federalism is the ultimate solution to the many challenges of our Country.

Politics / Why I Want Niger Delta Avengers To Continue... by kinharold(m): 12:31am On Jun 12, 2016
Copied, as written by a facebook user:

In 1993, the Ogoni people stopped the federal government and Shell Petroleum from drilling crude oil in their four local government areas of Rivers State. It has remained so for twenty three years now. Ogoni is probably the only ethnic nationality in Nigeria that has successfully dealt with the FG and Shell. Because of the notoriety of the Ogoni people and the international embarrassment Ogoni has caused the FG in the past. The federal govt has been mindful of using force against them as a way of drilling their crude, like it has done in other Niger Delta communities.

Both Shell and the FG have tried every possible means to resume oil production in Ogoni land. Some years ago the FG, after using its divide and rule tactics (bribing of Ogoni chiefs), sent another company in the name of Belema Oil to resume production. The Ogoni people chased the company away.

Two years ago, after the Ogoni people dragged Shell to an international court for the damages caused by over 2,000 oil spills in Ogoni land by She, Shell agreed and paid a £55million settlement fine money to Ogoni people. Despite this N16billion payment to the people of Ogoni by Shell and their willingness to clean up Ogoni land, the Ogoni people have still denied Shell access to resume oil production in their land.

The Ogoni nationality are probably the only group in the Niger Delta that have asserted full control over their crude oil and they have done this for twenty three years. The Ogoni people have confirmed that the crude oil belongs to them and not the Federal Government.

Part of their condition for resumption of oil production is that the Ogoni Bill of Rights (OBR) be acknowledged and implemented by the FG. The OBR is a document that highlights the aspirations of the Ogoni People. Part of their aspiration in that document is true federalism that will guarantee the autonomy of the Ogonis in matters that concern their resources, economy, politics, etc. The Ogoni Bill of Rights is a document that reflects true federalism for the Ogoni people yet the FG have refused to acknowledge it.

While the FG have continued to ignore the OBR and environmental degradations in Ogoni Land, it is doing everything possible to resume production so as to increase its revenue. Part of the FG recent effort is to flag off a $1billion Ogoni clean up project in which it did not make any budget for nor has it awarded any contract for. Many international observers have condemned the FG for its refusal to deal with the Ogoni people with sincerity.

The Ogonis have argued that they would rather use their oil rich land for farming only and allow the crude oil waste beneath than allow Shell/FG drill the crude and pollute their lands and yet deny them dividends from the exploration. They cannot be feeding the whole of Nigeria while they and their land remain degraded and poor. This has bern their argument.

One of the irony of the Ogoni situation is that despite the fact that it has refused to contribute to the national revenue of Nigeria, it has continued to receive from the revenue. This is so because Nigeria is a skewed and criminal federal state. The money that Ogoni land alone once contributed to the national revenue monthly was higher than what some states combined were contributing to the national revenue, yet what Ogoni received was pollution and more pollution. Their conclusion was that they have nothing to lose if they stopped contributing. They were right.

Today, if the whole of Niger Delta stops contributing to Nigeria's revenue via crude oil sales, they will still be entitled to getting allocations from Nigeria. As long as there is money to share at Abuja, all states must share it irrespective of where the money is coming from.

This is the irony of Nigeria's federalism. This is one way lazy states have benefitted from Nigeria for so long and I think it is time for the whole of the Niger Delta to act lazy like the Ogonis so Nigeria can see what exactly is wrong with our federalism.

Oh yes. This is why I also want the Niger Delta Avengers to continue their campaign of 'zero production'.

We need to sit down and design a new Nigeria. Intellectualism could take us two decades to get Nigeria to sit down and discuss but with the Avengers, its a matter of months and a national soveriegn conference will be called upon. This is the language Nigeria understands. Lets speak it.

To be continued...
