Education / Re: 15 Escaped Chibok Girls Admitted Into AUN Academy On Scholarship by kinharold(m): 3:05pm On Sep 01, 2014
Are we sure there was really an escape. My dear, the whole thing baffles me.

*How can more than 50 girls escape in-mass from the boko-haram we hear about and arrived safely in-mass together.

*We hear that their camp is so deep in the thick forest that our military could not reach it, yet these girls just "strolled" out from there like they were in a backyard garden.

* We mean girls as mature as waec students could not recur and give a good account of their journey route.

these and more questions begging for clarity.

...or an Amaechi who has defied all odds and political landmines erected for him from the Supreme Court judgement about his election or the 24 House of Assembly members who defected with him to APC that you'd say is without support?

My dear, I really enjoyed reading the whole write-up especially the part about Kano politics, but the part above really gave you out. For you to say this about Rivers Politics makes it clear that you dont know anything about what is happening there as concerns 2015. Comments like this can only be said on Nairaland and other online platforms but not in Port Harcourt.

We all loved Ameachi but his APC adventure is a grave mistake, he should only pray that GEJ does not run.
Business / Tony Elumelu Appointed Chairman Of UBA Group by kinharold(m): 8:30pm On Aug 25, 2014
VENTURES AFRICA – The Board of United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) yesterday announced the appointment of Tony Elumelu, as Chairman, succeeding Ambassador Joe Keshi.

Mr Elumelu is Chairman and CEO of Heirs Holdings, the pan-African proprietary investment company which he founded in 2010 and which holds stakes in a number of leading African businesses, including Nigeria’s largest conglomerate by market capitalisation, Transcorp, and UBA.

Elumelu retired as Group Managing Director and CEO of UBA in 2010, following the introduction by the Central Bank of Nigeria of 10 year tenure limits for bank CEOs. He had served as CEO of the UBA Group for 13 years, where he was responsible for the creation of today’s UBA – a financial services institution that built a reputation for innovation and the democratisation of banking services and now spans Africa, providing services to more than 10 million customers across the continent and in London, Paris and New York.

Widely regarded as one of the leading business figures in Africa, Elumelu has developed a reputation for identifying value and bringing a long term investment orientation and discipline to sectors critical to Africa’s development, including financial services, power, oil and gas, agribusiness, real estate and hospitality. As the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, an Africa-based and African-funded philanthropic institution, Mr Elumelu is committed to the promotion of entrepreneurship in Africa, based on his championing of Africapitalism, the philosophy that the African private sector is the critical enabler of the continent’s economic and social transformation.

The Chairmanship of UBA will complement Mr Elumelu’s existing positions with other Heirs Holdings’ portfolio businesses, including the Chairmanship of Transcorp, Nigeria’s largest listed conglomerate by market capitalisation.

“Tony Elumelu’s track record at UBA speaks for itself. His return to the Board brings a depth of knowledge and experience of the African financial services industry that is second to none. We are privileged to have him lead the Board at this critical stage in our development,” said Mr. Phillips Oduoza, Group Managing Director/CEO UBA.

With operations in 19 African countries and a presence in New York, London and Paris, UBA is one of the largest financial services institutions in Africa. The Bank recently unveiled its Project Alpha, a 3-year road map of key transformation initiatives, designed to consolidate the Group’s strategic positioning and fully exploit the opportunities provided by Africa’s economic renaissance and the UBA Group’s unique platform.

“I am very much looking forward to returning to the Group – UBA represents a tremendous investment opportunity, and is at an inflection point in its growth path. We have an extremely powerful executive team and I am looking forward to bringing my experience and energy to guide UBA’s long term strategy. Financial services remain one of the key drivers of African growth, both in terms of social inclusion and regional integration, and the UBA Group provides a unique platform to deliver both extraordinary value and drive Africa’s economic success.’’

‘’I would also like to thank my predecessor, Ambassador Keshi and the entire board for their contributions to the growth and development of the bank” said Mr Elumelu.

The way it is now, even if APC is allowed to field Atiku and Buhari as two different Presidential candidates at the same time, their vote combined cannot beat GEJ. Boko Boys has bombarded all the credibility and sympathy these guys have from Nigerians. GEJ may not be the best guy but he appears to be the best available (for now)

My question about ZMAPP and Ebola:
1. How was the first outbreak of 1976 curtained.
2. Is it since that outbreak of 1976 that ZMAPP Research started?
3. Where has the virus been and how/why dd it breakout now again after all these years?

Health / EBOLA Vs HIV AIDS: Disease Pass Disease by kinharold(m): 11:01am On Aug 14, 2014
Imagine a friend was feeling very sick, weak, he was throwing up. He was taken to the hospital and several test was conducted. At this point all his family members were afraid to touch him including his wife and children, he was even locked inside a room. After some time a doctor came out and was about to break the news, before he said anything some of the man's relatives were even crying. The doctor said " we have concluded all the necessary test and the result is, he has HIV/AIDS. All the family members started rejoicing shouting thank God, thank God, some were even singing praises. One called home immediately and said sister it is only HIV/AIDS, not Ebola.

It's a serious issue.

Business / MTN Makes $6.7bn In Six Months With A 21.5% Rise In Nig, 7% Loss In South Africa by kinharold(m): 12:33am On Aug 09, 2014
MTN, the JSE-listed mobile phone operator, posted results it described as “solid” operational performance in the six months to June this year with growth realised in data and mobile money.

The firm, which connects more than 215 million people in 22 countries in Africa and the Middles East, said during the period under review subscriber numbers increased 3.5 percent to 215 million with revenues surging 11 percent to R72.7 billion ($6.7 billion).

MTN Nigeria revenue soared 21.5 percent to R27 billion ($2.5 billion) while MTN South Africa revenue were 7 percent lower at R19.1 billion ($1.7 billion).

Data revenue surged 38.9 percent to R12.7 billion ($1.1 billion) while data users were 7.3 percent higher at 88.5 million.

However, voice revenue continued to be negatively impacted by forceful competition, regulatory pressures and a weakening economic environment in key markets.

MTN Nigeria posted a healthy performance in keeping with market prospects but the South African operation remained under pressure and steps were taken to improve its performance, MTN said.

“We continue to explore opportunities to expand our product offering outside of traditional voice and expect to increase our presence in the digital space by leveraging technology and maximising the opportunity of low internet penetration in many of our markets,” MTN said.

huptin: Am not a fan of Buhari, not because of all these conspiracy theories flying around to discredit the general, I just feel the world has advanced beyond his likes. But Ati ku? Biko that's a no no, he won't even win his local government.

While I am not a fan of GEJ, for one I believe he is not capable of steering the ship of this nation away from an impending catastrophe, it looks like what happened in 2011 is about to repeat itself. I.e. Many Nigerians will still vote for him in the absence of any alternative.

EXACT TRUTH

APC can't win Presidential elections, let them work on winning more states via gubernatorial elections, they will surely gel in 2019.
This is actually their best option and strategy, but ACN merging to form APC has greatly limited their chances. Tinubu would have been better off with ACN. Ngige's loss is an example. ACN was making serious impact in the East and SS especially but APC came to give it a very ugly name.

One day, I will form a political party and one of our major manifesto will be to disintegrate Nigeria of establish TRUE and Genuine Federalism.

Fomaxcool: We are brothers & sisters, I still believe that Nigeria can still work out if our leaders are visionary irrespective where you are coming from.
This assumption that we are "brothers and sisters" is the greatest problem of Nigeria from day one till now. Nigerians are not brothers or sisters. Nigeria is NOT a nation. It is a geographical entity (country) with so many different Nations that was created by the British, for the British. There is no way you can tell or explain to an Efik man that he is a brother to a man from Sokoto state, an Urhobo man cannot understand how he is related (as a brother) to a man from Kano state etc. If we say we are one nation or people; it is either we are deceiving ourselves or we are lying to ourselves and our children.

It is only True Federalism that can rescue us if we must remain as one country.

Like seriously, I dont understand this Judiciary as the third arm of Government. Why must they always seat back and watch while illegality and unconstitutionally is going on. Must they wait for someone to cry to them first. Even when someone does, it takes ages for them to get things done right. Some ex-Governor's of 1999-2003 Era cases are still not being fully heard in court, from one injunction to another.
