grin grin grin ;DWhr is towtow decay n co? We ol knw dat our actresses are acting rubbish movies with no content and message
HisRib: Rachel Mwanza, star of critically acclaimed Canadian film Rebelle, will be the only representation of Africa at the 58th Annual Academy Awards. The Academy Awards, known to most as The Oscars, is an annual award ceremony dedicated to honoring excellent cinematic achievements. Rachel, who plays the role of a war witch named Komona, was chosen after producers saw her performance on a documentary about street kids in Kinshasa. Being abandoned by her parents at an early age, the 16-year old actress spent many years living in the streets.

When Rebelle Director, Kim Nguyen and Producers Pierre Even and Marie-Claude Poulin first came into contact with Rachel she was unable to read or write. Together they agreed to pay for her education and provide her with housing until she turns eighteen. In 2012, the Congolese actress received awards from the Berlin Film Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival, the Vancouver Film Critics Circle, and was nominated for Best Actress at the 2013 Canadian Screen Awards.

With Rebelle being nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 58th Annual Academy Awards, last month producers were scrambling to obtain a U.S visa that will allow the young star to attend the ceremony. There is no confirmation a visa was granted. The 58th Annual Academy Award is scheduled to air on Sunday February 24th 2013.

Update:
According to several news sources, Congolese actress Rachel Mwanza was awarded a US Visa in order to attend the Oscars in Los Angeles, California.

RICHIE BOI: Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan has reversed the change of name of the University of Lagos which he renamed Moshood Abiola University in a broadcast to mark the 2012 Democracy Day.

Chairman, Governing Council of University of Lagos, Professor Jerry Gana disclosed this yesterday in Abuja during his inauguration alongside three others by the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufai

The name change had been the subject of litigation and protests from students and alumni of the institution while a court recently ruled that the change was illegal.

Gana who hailed President Jonathan for retaining the name of the institution. said the president had upheld the Constitution by reversing the change of name of the university.

“This is a pointer to the fact that the current administration is committed to entrenching democracy and justice in the country.’’

Gana, who was responding on behalf of the four councils, said they would ensure that the universities’ communities settled down in peace.

“I assure you that we will do our best to be fair, just and honourable in the discharge of our duties.” He also promised effective leadership with integrity, honour and justice.

Gana said members would work according to the rules governing the institutions.

He thanked Jonathan for the appointments and said they would put in their best as Nigerians deserved nothing less.

The other governing councils inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’I, were for the University of Benin, ObafemiAwolowoUniversity, Ile-Ife and Michael Opara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

Their Chairmen are Sen. Bob Dickson, Prof. Rowland Ndoma-Egba and Prof. Anya O.Anya respectively.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Sen. Uche Chukwumerijie said the lawmakers’ job had been made easier by the appointments.

Chukwumerijie said the committee’s oversight visits to the institutions had identified lack of leadership by the absence of governing councils and the quality of members of the boards as challenges facing the institutions.

He said the Federal Government had by the appointments taken care of the issues.

“There are councils for those that did not have and the members who have been appointed are men and women of proven integrity and experience in academics.’’

The lawmaker described the appointees as round pegs in round holes and the right captains in the ship.

Chukwumerijie charged the councils to immediately tackle falling standards of education, corruption, cultism and many ills that had continued to affect the development of education.

The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, said no university could function effectively without a governing council.

Okojie urged government to consider training and retreat for members to enable them to keep abreast of global best practices in university administration.

He also advocated financial autonomy for universities in the country.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Highest Paid Nigerian Footballers In 2012 by kkkp: 7:10pm On Feb 21, 2013
Point of correction..mikel obis wages is tax free..ol d tax r bin paid by chelsea as part of his contract agreement wen he sign for chelsea n dats of d reason he rejected man u dat tym....and why is Victor moses nt herehuh Victor moses earn £50,000 a week
Papilo87: Nigerian footballers sure do not earn the sort of money some of their colleagues from other African countries like Ivory Coast (Didier Drogab, Yaya Toure), Cameroun (Samuel Eto) take home. However, that some of them earn quite impressive sums of money is very obvious.

NairaBrains a business and technology site has released a detailed list of top 8 earning Nigerian Footballers in 2012 and some surprise inclusions are made. Many do not know that several players playing outside the popular leagues in Europe made quite more money than many of their counterparts in the so-called top leagues (English Premiership, Spanish La Liga etc)

Enter the List:

The fortunes of Nigeria’s footballers in various football leagues across the world may be dwindling as very few are able to land lucrative deals at prestigious clubs unlike their counterparts from South America and some African countries like Ghana, Ivory Coast (where Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba pull in enviable amounts as wages).

However there are still many of Nigeria’s exports who earn big in their own right and below after extensive research I present to you the most definitive list of Nigeria’s highest earning footballers in 2012.

1. Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Age: 30
Club: Guangzhou R&F
Wage: £5.04 million

Yakubu, after proving himself for several seasons in the English Premier League the Yak made a big money move to China’s Guangzhou R&F where is reported to pull in nearly £100,000 weekly. In fact his annual take home at the Chinese club is placed at £5,040,000.

2. John Obi Mikel

Age: 25
Club: Chelsea FC
Annual Wage: £4.16 million

Mikel Obi the Chelsea midfielder was previously on a £2,600,000 (£50,000 per week) but recently signed a new five year contract with the European champions worth £4,160,000 annually. His hefty pay packet however suffers some substantial tax under the United Kingdom tax rules. Mikel also got a hefty bonus as part of the 2012 Champions League winning squad that lifted the trophy at the Alliance Arena, Munich in May 2012.

3. Taye Taiwo

Age: 27
Club: AC Milan
Wage: £3.36 million

The left back moved from Olympic Marseille to Milan FC in a 3 year lucrative move worth £3,360,000 per year. Though he has yet to break into the Milan team and has been shipped on loan so far to Queens Park Rangers and currently to FC Dynamo Kyiv Taye may not mind too much as he earns a princely sum and will not be due to renew his current contract until 2014.

4. John Utaka

Age: 31
Club: Montpellier
Wage: £2.08 million

After angry rumours that the former Eagles winger took home £80,000 a week at Portsmouth (at a time the club was in dire financial straits) the player had insisted he only earned about £30,000 at the now relegated club. Utaka joined Montpellier in 2011 in 2 and half year deal estimated at £40,000 per week.

5. Peter Osaze Odemwingie

Age: 31
Club: West Bromwich Albion
Annual Wage: £2.08 million

The West Brom Striker, who is a subject of transfer speculations linking him to Queens Park Rangers in the current January window currently is on a contract estimated at £40,000 weekly thus meaning he earns a decent £2,080,000 per year. Should his transfer to the Rangers go through he might earn as much as £70,000 per week.

6. Emmanuel Emenike

Age: 25
Club: Spartak Moscow
Wage: £2.1 million

The Spartak Moscow striker, according to MTNfootball, earns £2,100,000 annual wages. The Russian club also recently, in a contract extension till 2016, included a 42 million euros buyout clause. His wage is definitely taxed in Russia but not at the level in England.

7. Joseph Yobo

Age: 32
Club: Fenerbahce
Wage: £1.8 million

The Super Eagles skipper was involved in a protracted transfer between his former club Everton Fc and his new club Fenerbahce. Joseph Yobo earned £1,974,000 annually at Everton and it may appear he would have to take a slight pay cut after Fenerbahce coughed out £2.5 million to Everton FC for his transfer. The cut however may not be very significant as Yobo is reported to earn in the region of £1.8 million in wages per year in the three year deal at Fenerbahce. The plus for Yobo is that his earnings are barely taxed in Turkey unlike his colleagues in the United Kingdom who can pay up to 35% tax on income.

8. Kalu Uche

Age: 30
Club: Kasimpasa
Wage: £1.04 million plus a £630,000 transfer payout

The erstwhile Eagles midfielder got a heavy payday in 2012 when he got paid £630,000 being half of his transfer fee from Espanyol to Turkish club Kasimpasa. Kalu who had moved to Espanyol on a free from his previous Swiss club Neuchatal Xamas (Xamas had been declared bankrupt) and had an agreement with Espanyol to take 50% of any subsequent transfer fee if Espanyol were to sell. That heavy pay plus his estimated £20,000 weekly wage takes him straight into this list.

grin grin grin grin grin grin ;DFORZA MILANO
mukina2: AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri was bullish ahead of the first leg of his side's Champions League last-16 clash against Barcelona at San Siro.

Allegri acknowledges his team will be underdogs but is taking confidence from their performances against Barca last season, when they faced the Catalans in both the group stages and quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Milan, who last won the European Cup in 2007, held Barca to a draw at the Nou Camp in September 2011 while they also drew the first leg of the last-eight clash before the Spanish league leaders went on to win the tie 3-1.

Allegri told a press conference: ``Milan-Barcelona means we are facing the best team in the world but I do not accept that in the last two weeks everyone has been making us out to be the sacrificial lamb.

``As long as the rules do not change then we start the match tomorrow evening in the same position, 0-0.

``In the last two years we have played well against Barcelona, we played well in the quarter-final last year.

``We know that at the moment they are the best team in the world but we have to try and create the elements to go through to the next round, although we know that whoever they play against they have an average of 65% possession.

``We have to try and limit their possession, making them less dangerous because they are so dangerous when they go forward. We have to be good at managing our own possession because maybe they will concede something at the back.

``We have to step onto the pitch with the conviction that we can go through to the next round. I know we will do well, then if we are a little lucky we can hope of making the quarter-finals.''

Allegri has been boosted by the return to fitness of striker Stephan El Shaarawy, although Mario Balotelli is not eligible having played for Manchester City in the competition this season.

Meanwhile, Barca playmaker Xavi is also available but neither David Villa (kidney stones) nor Adriano (hamstring) have travelled. Youngster Oier Olazabal has been included in the squad.

Barca have been crowned European champions three times in the last seven seasons and are perennial favourites, but forward Pedro was cautious ahead of the clashes with Milan.

He said on www.fabarcelona.com: ``We're very eager to get back to playing in this competition against a difficult rival like AC Milan.

``This round has always been difficult for us each year, perhaps because there's such a big break in between matches.

``Milan have always been a difficult side because they have a lot of history and they have very dangerous players. Anything can happen in a two-leg tie in the Champions League. We have to concentrate and be very vigilant in defence.''

Ptimes: The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, on Monday confirmed the arrest of two persons, including a pastor, for allegedly being in possession of fresh human parts, which they concealed in two bags.

The commissioner said the pastor and his accomplices were arrested on Saturday and were currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department for further investigation.

According to him, fingers, heart, liver, kidney and intestines were all concealed in two bags, which were discovered during a stop-and-search operation by policemen from Ikotun Police Divisional Office.

Mr. Manko disclosed further that two bottles, filled with what was suspected to be human blood, were also recovered from the suspects.

The commissioner also said the police have commenced investigation into the killing of an Assistant Superintendent. of Customs, who was allegedly shot dead by his colleague on duty post.

The Police chief, who confirmed the incidents to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the suspect, a Deputy Superintendent. of Customs, was being detained at the state Criminal Investigation Department.

However, NAN investigation at the department revealed that about eight persons, all customs personnel, who were on duty with the deceased on Saturday when the incident occurred along the Lagos-Badagry highway, had been invited by the police.

NAN gathered that the police had also requested for the release of the vehicle containing the contraband the deceased and his colleagues wanted to impound during the shooting.

mrchimex: TUSTIN, California — A chaotic shooting spree early Tuesday through Orange County, Calif., left four people dead, including the shooter, and two others injured before the man stopped and shot himself to death in a stolen car, police said.

There were multiple crime scenes in Tustin and Orange and many more victims who were shot at but unhurt, Tustin Lt. Paul Garaven said. The shootings began at 4:45 a.m. when deputies responding to a call found a female shot multiple times in a house in Ladera Ranch, said Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino. The city is in the southern part of the suburban county about 30 miles south of Los Angeles.

From 5:30 a.m. to 5:55 a.m., Tustin police received reports of shootings in several locations, Tustin police Supervisor Dave Kanoti.

The motive for the shootings was unclear, and it's also unclear if the victims knew each other or the shooter, Amormino said.

"I do not believe any of the victims are related to each other. It might have been a random thing," he said. "We just don't know."

The first call that came in was at Red Hill Avenue and Interstate 5. Police arrived and determined a carjacking had occurred and that victim was uninjured. An innocent bystander who was hit by gunfire was taken to a hospital, Garaven said. The next call was at State Route 55 and McFadden Avenue. Another carjacking occurred and that victim died, Garaven said.

The last call was about a man with a gun, he said, at Edinger Avenue east of the 55. An officer arrived and found two more victims — one dead and the other injured.

Officers located the man and followed him into the city of Orange, Garaven said.

"When they tried to stop, he killed himself in the car," Garaven said.

The suspect is a male, although Garaven couldn't confirm his age. He didn't have the sexes of all the victims.

The lieutenant said the suspect succeeded in stealing a vehicle at each carjacking.

"There have been other people coming forward saying they were shot at or their cars were shot at," he said, but so far none had reported any serious injury.

The conditions of the wounded victims were unknown.

A spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol said they didn't have any active crime scenes on the freeway but the southbound 55 McFadden Avenue off-ramp would be closed until further notice.

Authorities were processing six crime scenes across the county.

lekanolas: About18 million Nigerians representing 12 percent of the nation’s 150 million population require medical attention on mentalrelated ailments, a United Kingdom-based Nigerian Consultant Psychiatrist and CEO of Snapse Services, Dr Vincent Udenze, has said.

Udenze spoke yesterday at a one-day interactive session on improving the role of the family in mental health care held in Abuja. He, however, said there could have been a drastic decline in the figure but for lateness in diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Udenze listed possible causes of mental disease to include addiction to drug and alcohol and excessive depression, noting that families of affected persons have basic roles to play in ensuring prompt diagnosis and treatment for people living with the disorder. While calling on private investors to come into the rescue in the country, he expressed displeasure with public attitude towards the patients, saying: “Those with diabetics go on the street, we don’t stigmatise them.

Those with high blood pressure go to work, we don’t stigmatise them. We talk about those people with mental disorder badly when they are actually someone dear to us; when they are actually members of some particular families.

“Unfortunately, when we say mental illness, most of us jump into conclusion and think of the man on the street, the person we call the mad man; we stigmatize him. That is a lady or gentleman who had been unfortunately let down by the society because he is ill, no one cares for him or her; she is left there on the street. In some cultures, they even get abused, raped.

There is thinking that if you sleep with a mad woman, you can make some money. So, society abuses them. All of us as Nigerians, what are we doing about this?
” He added that families are often stigmatized along with the patients after a cure is achieved, and that such stigmatization could last for generations.

According to him, mental disorder did not mean that the person on the street could not be healed. Udenze said that services of professionals should be sought to save the patients from the disease. Mental illness, he said, is manageable like diabetics and hypertension, among others, stressing that early diagnosis and treatment was the best way to treating

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday surprised the authorities of the Lagos State Police Command when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Police College, Ikeja. With the President were the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Mr. Mamaah Tsafe; the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Umar Manko and other military and air force officers. Jonathan, who arrived at the college premises at about 3 pm, immediately proceeded on an inspection tour of the hostels, college kitchen, dining hall and the Officers’ Mess. For the college authorities, the visit was nothing short of an embarrassment as the commandant of the college, CP I.F. Yerima was unable to tell the President how and when Channels TV filmed the decay in the college. In an attempt to salvage the situation, Yerima had turned to his deputy and other senior officers of the college for assistance but all kept mute.

Enraged, Jonathan declared the documentary by the TV station a smear campaign. He said, “This is a calculated attempt to damage the image of this government. The Police College, Ikeja is not the only training institution in Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, a crowd of recruits, who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the President, hailed him repeatedly for his visit. They said, “Our number one President, the God sent President, the President of Nigeria, among others.” Jonathan acknowledged the cheers by raising his right hand. However, a senior police officer of the college told Saturday PUNCH on the condition of anonymity that the decay in the college began more than a decade ago.
