Arguing with a bigot like Know-all is a complete waste of time but then again ignoring him means letting Nigerians like him spread lies at our expense. How can the military not be responsible for stopping the blood-letting at that scale? I can understand if you are talking about a scuffle between 5 people but a whole region hunting down humans like animals? The police is not trained for that hence its the military's job. They could attack the soldiers and civilians in the East for leaving them but couldn't quell civilian mass killings in the North?

If it was not their job then Igbos and Easterners owed them no allegiance and should have been left alone to rot or progress in Biafra. NO BUTS.

You can tear all your hair out for all I care about what happened in the north, but what is not a soldier's job is not a soldier's job.

Good. An attempt to refute Point 4, however, Points 1, 2 and 3 remain irrefutable

Points 1,2,3 are not relevant to the discuss here, if u can prove that Nzeogwu and his motley crew of mutineers were  not the first set of Nigerians to plan and execute a coup in Nigeria then that woud be news to me, I await eagerly for this bit of information that has eluded my attention all along, we are all learning.

Your assertion that the pre-1966 cold-blooded murders of Igbos in many parts of Northern Nigeria had nothing to do with the military is myopic. The military had been used in many occasions to prevent such killings, so, why didn't they prevent some of these killings when it was known that bands of marauding murderers in Northern Nigeria were always ready to kill any Igbo.

I am afraid as hard and heartless as it may sound, it is not the job of the military, the military might have done the civilian police a favour in the past, but that is just what it was a favour.

It appears you knew little about military parlance in particular and history of Nigeria in general. Let me call your diminishing memory to Tiv riot of 1964. The supporters of NPC and UMBC were engaged in political mayhem in Jos and surrounding regions. The premier of northern region of Nigeria, Ahamdu Bello, requested the commander of 3rd Recce Squadron, Jos to order soldiers from his unit to shoot on sight the supporters of UMBC.

But young Major Chris Anuforo would have none of such crap from the premier instead he ordered the arrest of the NPC supporters who were main source of the political mayhem.

This single action of the young major in arresting the NPC supporters piqued the premier who contacted the Brigade Command, Brig. Samuel Ademolegun, requesting that the young Igbo major be transferred to HQ in Lagos. In the place of the Major Chris Anuforo was the Major Hassen Katsina who ordered the elements of 3rd Recce Squadron to shoot the supporters of UMBC during the 1964 Tiv riot, hence, the massacre of Tiv in 1964 by the elements of Nigerian army

Major Chris Anuforo, could be done for insubordination, the Sarduana being the premier of Northern Nigeria was also in charge of the armed forces in the northern part of  the country through his puppet in Lagos Balewa.

To the role Major Katsina played in quelling this uprising,

1. The Miliatary are trained to shoot to kill, not crowd control, if there is a riot in the USA or even Britain and the President orders the marines to quell the riot, meanwhile these marines where armed not with batons but M60's, what will u get, u have a bloodbath on your hands.

2. This is the duty of the police not the army, Katsina will not knowingly leave his barracks without an executive order to quell  riots.

3. The Sarduana faulted in ordering the army, but then this a new country bearly 4 year old what do u expect, we are even 49 years old today yet atrocities are commited daily.

Nzeogwu remains the 1st miliatary officer who in the name of some fantacist revolutionary movement went out and bluegeoned innocent civilians to death.

Who was Ojukwu "mutiny-ing" against at that stage. Officers who were his juniors or equals in rank  Ogundipe wasn't even there! He fled.

If according to u Ogundipe has fled, it simply means Ojukwu want to be Commander in cheif obviously there is no where in the minute where it was suggested that he offered the top job to any of the other participants. If that is not mutiny then what is mutiny  undecided

According to you and goofy Katsina, if there was no comradeship between the axis of evil and eastern region of Nigeria, why would the evil axis led by Gowon perpetrate a war of attrition on a region that was already alienated by north, west and mid-west regions?

Ojukwu has already alianated himself by insisting on the chain of command. I think Onlythruth can throw more light on that for u.
Politics › Re: The Famous Aburi Conference In Full Minute Detail: Judge For Yourself by KnowAll(m): 7:08pm On Oct 14, 2009
History tells us, that the only "crime" Ojukwu committed for which he was denied the comradeship of his fellow officers of the Nigerian army was to insist on the maintenance of the chain of command

Insisting in miliatary palance are the early signs of resentment and mutiny, no military that is what is salt will treat such act with a kids glove except of course a rag-tag army.

The Supreme Commander -Ironsi - was "missing", though almost everyone knew he was dead by then. He only demanded that the other officers next in line of command, eg Brigadier Ogundipe, take command. THAT IS ALL HE WANTED AT THAT STAGE. Mind you, he was not asking to take command himself. He wanted others who weren't even Igbo to do so. His main fear (as an educated man

Ogundipe another relic from the colonial era,  might actually decline the offer to assume the post of Supreme commander, he knowing that he will be lucky to outlive or break Ironsi's tenure of office. Hence the mute stance's of Ogundipe.

Not everyone prefers to use God father movies (even when you goofed on the character you referenced) to discuss serious issues.

The point of the Godfather Movies was to point out the strong character of the God father's 1st son, it does not matter wherther his name was Afam, Dede, Igwe USA, Uduezue, that boy's knee jerk reation to events reminds one of Nzeogwu and Ojukwu's reation to events.

I realised that the God Father was well after the incidents of the 1960's, Ojukwu would have missed out on the strong message that this movie conveyed. Afterall Movies, like books passes on strong messages which can be applicable to our everyday lives.
Politics › Re: The Famous Aburi Conference In Full Minute Detail: Judge For Yourself by KnowAll(m): 2:37pm On Oct 14, 2009
The camaraderie you have willfully referenced in your post and supposedly embraced by Katsina was born out of cowardice, idiocy, treachery and lack of political vision among the two stooges-Adebayo and Ejoor.

That is your personal view, there would have being no need for Aburi if Ojukwu was operating on the same frequency as the others, like I said earlier on Kastina has spoken for all.

Just as you have rightfully pointed out in your skewed posts, the axis of camaraderie and friendship does not include eastern region of Nigeria and should not have been persecuted for opting out of cesspit called Nigeria.

You have already exluded the East from the camraderie of friends in your early assertion, my argument here was based on the assertion u put forward. To remind u see your earlier postings below.

If you are bent on given Hassan Katsin any iota of kudos in reneging on Aburi accord, you must as well as accept fact that southern Nigerians, baring easterners, were unforgivable cowards and treacherous backstabbers

For anyone to claim the actual events that led to the war are not important rather what he considers important is comparing Katsina to a movie he cannot correctly identify the characters goes to show how shallow and myopic the person is.

One last question - how old are you?

He must be a methusaleh , but he reasons like a scalawag.

Knowall can't be over 40 but if he is then he quite a fool at 40. Reducing events during the Aburi conference to fictional characters shows his level of immaturity and stupidity honestly.

It is clear and I am gratified with the comments as displayed above, just like your heroes Nzeogwu and Ojukwu quick to press the trigger when the arguments is not in their favour.

I have being on this forum a long time for me not to see the tell tale signs of defeat and resignation, one can tell when the act of simply putting ones views across becomes worrisome and a burden or seems exhaustive, unpleasant language and unruly behaiviour becomes the order of the day.

@Afam

It was obvious to the non military observers of the Aburi conference that Ojukwu "was clearly the star performer. Everyone wanted to please and concede to him". On the federal side, only the Military Governor of the Northern Region: Lt-Colonel Hassan Usman Katsina, seemed to realize the significance of what was going on. Anxious not to allow Ojukwu's domination of the proceedings to continue for too long, he at one point dared Ojukwu to "secede, and let the three of us (West, North, Mid-West) join together".

Alarmed by talk of a possible break-up of Nigeria, Ankrah quickly interjected and told his guests that "There is no question of secession when you come here [Ghana]". Although the FMG delegation was keen to mollify and make concessions to Ojukwu, Lt-Colonel Katsina was hostile and blunt than his other colleagues. He declared matter of factly to Ojukwu: "You command the east, if you want to come into Nigeria, come into Nigeria and that is that".

By issueing those 2 statements, if I where Ojukwu I will probably feel like stangulating the guy, but the nearest thing to strangulation is to fall for the bait in the 2nd statement, by pulling out of the federation. He fell for it, instead of Ojukwu to have his own game plan all setup for execution at a later date. If this is not a bait then what is a bait

So, in your wisdom Ojukwu just came back and decided to secede? Is this position correct? Is this your line of thought lest I waste my time addressing this?

Thank God I have found your question, One thing we know is we can all benefit from the wisdom, lessons and knowledge of hindsight, like they say the end justify the means, I will not want to bother u nor bore myself or anybody about who threw the first punch and when did actual armed conflict commenced.

One thing we are sure of, the disagreement of those 2 gentlemen at Aburi actually came to play and fruition in the full gallery of open warfare, the rest as day say is history.

If u want detail history of the conflict, I will suggest u go and do some research and read up on that, I dont have the time nor the patient of teaching an igbo what he should be able to recite of hand. undecided

Politics › Re: Do We Need Another International Airport In Lagos ? by KnowAll(m): 7:40am On Oct 14, 2009
Can someone answer this questions please

1. What is an airport

2. What is an airline

3. Does FG or Lagos State goverments have airlines.

4. Lagos State wants to build another airport because the current one belongs to the FG, is it ok for the FCT Abuja to build its own airport since the current one the Nnmadi Azikwe Airport also belongs to the FG.

5. If No to question 3, why does Lagos State goverment want to build another airport when the current one is under utilised. Secondly who will fly to this airport.

My take is except Lagos State have a lot of planes that will be ferrying passengers all over the place for pea nuts then they can build another airport. I dont see how British Airways, Virgin Atlantic , Arik, Lufthansa, KLM , Air France,  and a host of other airlines increasing their slot from one flight a day to Lagos to 2 a day, one a day each from MM and Lekki Airport. Some of the flights mentioned here even with the one a day slot are still  empty when travelling back to their home destination except for the direct ones.

If 2 slots of direct flights are giving to British Airways , Arik , and Virgin Atlantic I dont think lagos has the financial clout to sustain the passenger levels for 2 direct flights a day knowing that direct flights cost a lot more than indirect flights.

Abuja is able to sustain a direct flight to London because of the large number of high net individuals who travel first and bussiness class. A British Airways flight to London with only about 100 passengers from Abuja with 20 or 25 first class passenger each paying between £5,000 and £7,000 and busines class passenger paying between £1,200 and 1,800 is more profitable than a jumbo with 250 passengers paying £350 or N116,000.00 per passengers from lagos.

One Sarduana is equal to 50,000 dead Easterners

Seriously FUCCK SARADUNA.
Igbos are the FOOLS who did not send 50,000 Hausa-Fulani muslims to their own early graves for the death of Aguiyi Ironsi who was innocent and had nothing to do with the coup.

TIT for TAT.

The men who masterminded the Jos Riot of the 50's in which there were xenophobic killings must be nationalists.

You people just like to talk about Nigeria's history as if it began in 1966

The killing of Easterners prior to 1966 were carried out by civilians. The military b4 Jan 1966 were like a band of brothers irrespective of where u came from, Nzeogwu change that by losing his fuse and unleashing his fury at the politicians at the time. The Military were neutral b4 then, Nzeogwu broke ranks from establish military ethics of the time by being mutinious against not only his bosses but crossed the great gulf between civilian issues and military issues. I suspect he was passionate about his people and felt uncomfortable with the killings in the North.

That is not an excuse to broke rank from the military which had a strict code of conduct modelled after the British army, infact when the Jan 1966 coup failed and Ironsi was made Head of State, He Ironsi was out of his dept as to what to do as a head of State.

Here was a man that has spent the better part of his career being loyal to his White bosses, all of a sudden he was put incharge of a whole country, nothing he learnt in Sandhurst could have prepared him for this uncharted territory, he could not fathom or come to terms with the new power that was suddenly thrust upon him hence his early demise in July 1966.

So for posterity sake, please Gentlemen always get your facts right, prior to Jan 1966 the miliatry where not involved in the brutal tribal killings in the North. I think it will benefit younger members of our community if the story is relayed correctly without any distortion to events.
Thank you

The only men of flawed and questionable character in the 60's were your tribal folks in no other person than Nzeogwu and his motley crew of ameteur revolutionaries  they started the ball rolling in Jan 1966, why would Katsina trust Ojukwu when the Sarduna of Sokoto a direct descendant of Uthman dan fodio has been murdered in cold blood, bludgeoned to death in the dead of the night.  undecided

There is no doubt that the entity called Nigeria today only happened and was forced because of the stance of people like Katsina, which to me was an eye opener reading the minutes of what transpired in that confrence, the others in the confrence needed somebody to take charged which Katsina did triumphantly, Ojukwu prior to Katsina's interjection was ruling the roost.

I will not look at the contribution of the other Southerners on that table as cowardice rather I will see it as camaraderie amongst friends, Katsina has spoken for all and that includes Gowon.

You see, that dishonorable and mafioso mindset was introduced into Nigeria's leadership by the Hassan Katsinas of the time and Nigeria has been led by one mafia head to the other till this day.

Hassan Katsina lured Ojukwu into a trap and Ojukwu in trying to call Hassan's bluff fluffed. Ojukwu was cornered like a rat, Katsina had put him where he wanted him,  Ojukwu a man of fine intellect and bravery was reduced to a scare crow who was smuggled out of Biafra in the dusk in other to save his skin.

I know for sure even today if Ojukwu were to ever make up with any of the other fellows on that table,  Hassan Katsina will be one man he will never make up with,  Hassan Katsina was Ojukwu's nemesis he out manoavered Ojukwu, Ojukwu knew he made both a tactical and intellectual error for falling for such an elementary bait like that.

The Aburi confrence in all honesty actually brought out the wisdom, craftiness and slyness of people like Hassan Kastina, Southerners and that includes Igbo's should accord this gentleman the respect he deserves.

A lot of them in my opinion are simply embarrassed that such foresight and intelligence could come from Ojukwu, someone they have conveniently called names out of either envy, jealousy, hatred or ignorance.

You sure need to re – familiarise yourself with the Godfather movies again, Ojukwu fell like a park of cards at Major Katstina’s bait. Just like Tony the Godfather’s 1st son all gung-ho, without thinking it through he was cut down when he was set up by his brother-in law.

Ojukwu should have reasoned like Michael the Godfather’s second son, he knew had to take down his father’s enemies but went about it in a well planned and concise manner, one would expect with the intellect Ojukwu posses he could have eradicated every single person on that table within 18 months of smiling, shaking and patting their backs.

if Camparore of Burkina Faso can kill Thomas Sankara his mentor within 2 years of Sankara coming to power how much more Ojukwu.

Where was you when the capital taken away from the IBIOBIOS (Calabar) and given to you in Lagos was snatched away and sited in Abuja without asking?

The only reason why the capital was moved  where :

1. The Hausa / Fulani Hegemony had lost 2 illustrious sons, in the person of Tafawa Balewa, and Muritala Mohammed.

2. The Sarduna of Sokoto being the head of the NCNC was suppose to lead the central government but opted out, only to hand pick his then deputy Balewa to proceed to Lagos.

3. I am sure you read what Fani- Kayode said happened in the 1958 Constitutional conference when delegates from the north voted against independence. The Northern delegates where pelted with stones on their train journey from Lagos back to Kaduna, the pelting only stopped when they got to Ilorin.

4. The Northerners nearly lost another illustrious son in Babaginda, during Orkar’s coup, I think with due respect to the Middle Belt tribes of Tiv, Biroms, Igalas and Idomas, it would do a lot of us some good not lumpy these areas with the Hausa / Fulani Hegemony, Middle Belters of Plateau and Benue extraction are not ready to jump into the bandwagon of pride less and tribeless people like Saraki and other Kwarans who think they are Fulanis.

5. Muritala constituted a commission to look for a new capital for the Nation, You and I know Lagos as it was then and even more also now is just too congested, the safety of any VIP cannot be guaranteed in that city where go-slow and hold-ups is a way of life.

6. Abacha another Hausa / Fulani man made Abuja the fortress it is now.

7. In fact I believe that If Shagari was resident in Abuja it would have being difficult for the Buhari / Idiagbon regime to succeed.
The Brigade of Guards the most equipped squad in the Nigerian Army are based in Abuja.

8. Justice Aguda a Yoruba man, headed the commission tasked with the duty of looking for a new centralised Capital for the nation, he found and suggested Abuja, it was bang right in the centre of Nigeria, the distance of Maiduguri to Abuja is almost the same as Lagos to Abuja.
So also is the distance from Sokoto to Abuja is almost the same say from Calabar to Abuja give or take a few kilometres here and there.

9. If the Capital of Nigeria was moved to say Kano,  Kaduna or Sokoto then u can say that it was a slap on the Yorubas that the capital was moved out of their land, Lagos even till today is an impossible city, Fashola or no Fashola, why would any sane nation make it her capital.
At times when I am in Lagos I wonder how come this chaotic city was once the Capital of the whole nation, it never ceases to amaze me, I think the choice of Abuja was a good choice, where else could have been equi- distance from both the North and South, if not somewhere in the middle belt.

10. The Capital was moved from Calabar to Lagos by the Colonialist, they will be best position to answer that question, it has nothing to do with Nigerians. It was a colonial goverment decision.
