God didn't intend taking people to heaven from the beginning, the seat of God's earthly kingdom was supposed to be in Jerusalem, but the Israelites profane God's Temple and pure worship so they lost that glory {Matthew 23:37-38} when Jesus continued to pronounce woes upon Jerusalem (the most precious heritage of the Jews) his faithful disciples were devastated because they can't understand what Jesus is doing anymore!
How come he is declaring damnation upon their holy city?
If Jerusalem is Condemned, where are they going to stay with him as rulers?
Jesus can read their hearts so he quickly made a promise that has never been heard before since the creation of the world! Jesus promised to take them to his own home (heaven) so he promised to go and prepare a place and come back to take them there! John 14:1-4
Those going there will be a selected few from his disciples {Luke 12:32} none of those who lived before him qualifies for this privilege! Matthew 11:11

Well there are many interpretations given as to why those two names were missing from the list, but the truth is the list of names are figurative not literal!
All the tribes in Israel were guilty of idolatry so it couldn't have been that, Paul expatiate on this when he said real Jews aren't those born naturally as Jews anymore but those who became Jews by Faith! {Romans 2:25-29} that's the meaning of Jesus' illustration of the wedding feast, the Jews were supposed to be the only invitees but they ignored the invitation and started giving excuses so other tribes were welcomed into the wedding feast to become Jews by Faith! Matthew 22:2-14 compared to Matthew 23:37-38 and John 1:11-13
So the list symbolises selected individuals from all races who first embrace true Christianity!

You will recall that the disciples of Jesus asked him a similar question in Luke 13:23(take note : this question was asked before Jesus was crucified)

But i think this is a wrong question to ask in this dispensation after Christ has been crucified and he is resurrected. Rather, the right question that should be asked in today's reality is "Are there few that are in heaven? " seeing that heaven is already here with us through the death and resurrection of Christ, unlike the period when Christ has not been crucified.

we have to consider time when reading the bible.

there was time before the crucifixion of Christ which include the period when Jesus was yet alive on earth with his disciples before he was crucified, and there is was time after his death and resurrection, this is where we Christians belong which is heaven.

what am i driving at?
we this current era Christians without considering time, read bible that was written approximately 2000 years ago and try to make what we have read our current day reality and our future,it doesn't work that way.

For our benefits, the bible should be treated today as a book and past events and nothing else.

Are there few that are in heaven?
The answer is no!

Currently, there are billions of believers worldwide saved by Grace, they are not few.

I strongly believe the rapture is before the Great Tribulation, (Pre-tribulation Rapture) and after which is the second coming of Jesus.

In the Rapture, Jesus will appear but remain in the sky and only the prepared saints will see him. After the Antichrist has accomplished to mark the whole world, all eyes on Earth will see him, he will come down to earth and begin his millennial reign with the saints. This is the Second coming of Jesus.

The saints of Rapture are the faithful believers who are watching and praying or living a righteous life without compromise, repenting daily.
The saints of the tribulation are the lukewarm/slumbering/careless believers, and unbelievers who will have a great awakening in the event of the rapture/arrival of the Antichrist system. They will repent and seek for eternal life and refuse the mark which will cost them their life.

After the great tribulation is accomplished, Jesus will come with the raptured saints from heaven on horses in the great battle of Armaggedon. Revelation 17:14, Revelation 19:14. (faithful).
After victory, those who died in refusal of the mark will be resurrected to life to reign with Jesus for 1000 years and eternity. This you can read in Revelation 20:4-5

The parable of the Wise and Foolish virgins in Matthew 25 is indicating the Prepared virgins/Saints and the unprepared/left behind virgins.

There will be no eating and drinking/drunkenness/overcharged surfeiting of the saints in a Post-tribulation rapture where they can neither buy nor sell. This can only occur in a Pre-tribulation rapture scenario.

Likewise, the saints won't be in fields grinding in a Post-tribulation rapture because the Antichrist will be searching for them and those who take the Mark will be seeking them like Hunter bounty.
This "one taken away and other left" is only applicable to Pre-tribulation rapture

There is a difference between "tribulation" and "the great tribulation".
