Whatever might be the final system, the aim is to empower the general populace and weaken the political elite.
This is interesting. Kinda put my almost 1 year old location signature into perspective really.

Kodewrita, this system, what is the guarantee that people will make this smart choice on the basis of a leaders past performance? Do you think there is some other mechanism we can add to "force" this informed choice?

It's really a bummer to see people ignore a leaders glaring incompetence (based on past performance ) and then choose them again for the same or higher office.

If we can systemize this idea and put it into auto mode, it might solve some of the problems identified in this research .
Not fully thought through but I am seeing a few possible flaws.

If bad people get in, it might be hard to get them out once they are in. they simply have to keep you from entering at the bottom.
PoliticsRe: People Aren't Smart Enough For Democracy To Flourish, Scientists Say by kodewrita(m): 10:19am On Mar 06, 2012
Well there may be a way out.

if people are not able to judge accurately a candidate's ability, they can at least judge an incumbent's performance very well.

I envision a hierarchical system whereby you can only aspire to higher office if you have held some sort of lower post e.g governors can only be former lg chairmen or state house of reps members. That way, your performance can be tested using a lower-impact portfolio and if we can prove you are a thief while you were managing 30m monthly as a LG chairman, we can safely prevent you from handling 6bn as a governor and 9trn as a president.

That ensures that people can end up making the smart choice since they know the ones that didnt perform.

Any risks you foresee with this idea including potential opposition?

Ntech solutions requires the services of capable individuals to be part of its new training venture.

we specifically require the services of php instructors and web design instructors to start off our web training segment.

interested individuals may apply by mail to qmailservices@yahoo.com with an attached curriculum vitae, a passport photograph and any questions they may have.

This is a national recruitment for a mobile job hence location is not an issue.

Prior development and/or training experience will be an advantage.

Certification in chosen technologies is also an advantage.

Do we have any values?
Values differ from all sides of the country, what is considered good in South might be considered evil in the North.
we all detest adultery.

we all detest corruption and corrupt officials.

we all detest lying tradesmen.

we all fear armed robbers.

we all want an end to fuel queues.

we have more things in common than the differences we have.

its the misguided lot on both sides that are causing all the crises.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Cannot Be A Secular Country by kodewrita(m): 9:49pm On Mar 04, 2012
It is secular and will always be. Whether you like it or not.

Pushing religion down every man's throat is not my idea of freedom. And it should not be the idea of any same man.

Our laws can be partly motivated by our values. And our values can be motivated by our religions. But or laws must not be directly dictated by religion.

That is the nigeria you live in.

@beaf. On whose side are you? Shell or Nigerians?

All these Shell apologist should dare come to the streets of Port Harcourt and tell us these crap and see if they'll live to tell more.

Shell should build refineries and operate at loss. If not they should leave our oil.

@kodwrita
The grouses are:
1. Refine in Nigeria and create jobs.
2. Save cost of shipment out of Nigeria and back.
3. Let the multiplier effect be Nigeria, like taxes, etc.
4. Stop demurrage for ships.
5. National security.
great list ckkris but why should any private company be tasked with any of those. Your government should be responsible for once.

If you dont want demurrage for ships, a presidential order to that effect can be issued to the customs service. we can give preferential treatment to fuel importers if that is a factor or build special offloading platforms for them separate from our busy ports.

You build your refinery. If you dont have the skills, get indians or preferably chinese to build a turnkey refinery for you on B.O.T(Build Operate Transfer) or simply build and operate basis. An indian company is managing Eleme Petrochemicals and Nigeria is now making billions from it ( we did not make that in years of NNPC being in full charge).

Face the facts and move forward.

Refineries worldwide mostly run at a loss, says the Shell servant. Yet many refineries are being built by Indians. If you know about what refineries and petrochemical companies can do you wont deny the fact they are profiting in many ways.

Give me the names of the refineries they sold world wide?

Sooner than later they would give excuse for gas.

Refine cheap you say, how cheap are you getting fuel without subsidy?
every company is in business to make profit.  and different companies have different VIR( Value to Investment Ratios) they are comfortable with. If a refinery gives back $1.3 for every $1 you send while an oil well gives $3.2 for every $1 you spend, it is thoroughly irresponsible (to your shareholders) to invest in a refinery when you can make so much more not doing so.

Put the blame where it is.

your government would rather rob Peter to pay the Paul FAMILY.

If they need a refinery, let them build one THEMSELVES or like other pragmatic governments around the world, let them steadily wean nigerians off oil and onto our abundant gas resources ( we actually have way more gas than oil. Nigeria is described as "a drop of oil in an ocean of gas"wink that needs little or no refining. That would kill off any and all subsidy cartels.

Complaining solves no problems.
PoliticsRe: Why We Can’t Build Refinery In Nigeria-shell by kodewrita(m): 11:40am On Mar 03, 2012
The shell argument:
[li]Refineries worldwide MOSTLY run at a loss.[/li]
[li]Shell has sold most of its refineries worldwide. They dont refine any longer.[/li]
[li]Shell''s focus is on gas and Nigeria has lots of it and they will be willing to help invest even further in gas.
[/li]
[li]You can refine for dirt cheap by shipping it out and back.[/li]
What exactly is the grouse with this?

It is less populated and not as big. Healthy deposit from wards of the well to do.
and another usually overlooked reason is that fact that such banks are usually located close to the school entrance so its child's play hitting the bank and racing for the gate. try that in OAU where the banks are 2miles+ from the main gate. plenty of time for boys to block them off or the school security to lock the gates and run into the bush to await police firepower.

Actually feelers reaching me suggest that this whole article was a personal attack on someone who recently launched his startup.

Oonwoye(I might be wrong but I think this was the Onepage startup guy too) recently launched his Gbedu.fm music startup and this supposedly brought on a bout of envy resulting in Techloy's post. Unconfirmed though.

But re-read that article with this context in mind.

I am steadily learning the hard way that it is better to interprete actions not words. Let me rewrite what you wrote.

Words: I love you.

Actions:
Talks about him nonstop.
He can call her away from you at will.
She treats you like dirt when you are with him.
You complained and she defended the growing bond between them.
She put you on notice that she meet him first. You came later.

5:1.

I know you will refuse to follow this. I have been through it before.

I am not saying she's a bad girl. On the contrary she's quite good. What you have to realize is that she can be good and still want someone else.

I would actually tell you to do the hurting yourself and get out of the way of a moving train.
But we all experience these things so we can grow. It is one of the hardest things to do in life: to walk away from a girl you really like. One who fit you so much that its hard to imagine another girl who would fit the same.

But I have realized that love grows with shared history. Give yourself a chance to build a better shared history with someone else.

Love exists. Don't punish yourself with a facsimile while the true girl of your dreams walks by looking for the wrong mr right.
