cap28:
They were invited by Gadaffi and the first place he allowed them to inspect were the places where he is alleged to have dropped bombs on his people - does that make sense to you? If i am accused of aerially bombarding people in a particular town why would i take people to that very town? Perhaps you could explain to me why he would do that, unless you are saying that he was able to cover up the damage he did to the town just in time for the visit from the UK delegation.

i dont know whether you listened to this clip properly but the observer went to eastern libya where he saw black libyans being chopped up by these so called rebels - listen to the observer's statement at the end of the clip.

at the end of the day you are entitled to beleive what you want to believe, as i have said many times africans never appreciate the seriousness of a situation until it is staring them in the face - good luck.
He did not go to eastern libya, he referred to videos on youtube and accused british journalists already-on-ground of not investigating events that were clearly displayed on youtube. That might be a valid accusation but HE DID NOT VERIFY IT TOO so he's guilty of the same.

Really? Did he visit Misurata or Adjabiya or any of those places. He's talking about Tripoli. Nobody accused Ghadaffi of bombing tripoli.

cap28:
Its amazing how quick you are to call people names and yet your knowledge and understanding of international issues is very limited - so you think the american media outlets are more credible than RT because they are according to you "independent" - are you aware that the majority of the american media outlets are owned by multi billion dollar corporations many of whom have business interests in many corrput dictatorship govts around the world.

These corporations actually OWN and CONTROL the US govt which is a lot worse than what you are accusing Putin of doing.

It is an open secret that the US govt is completely bought and paid for by american multinational corporations.

This has been going on for years but you dont know this because you dont know anything about US history - go and research how american multinationals like United fruit company controlled not only the US govt but the govts of many central and south american countries like guatemala, ecuador, chile etc

even in our own country nigeria, shell owns and controls the nigerian govt and weilds enormous power over the british and dutch govts.

the alternative media sources such as RT have nothing to gain from telling the public the truth, they may have their own agenda but you are more likely to hear a more objective version of the news from them than from the corporate owned media outlets like CNN, FOX, NBC etc

you talk about CNN - CNN is owned by time warner , - time warner was one of the highest donors to obama's presidential campaign in 2008 these corporations are far from independent and have a vested interst in reporting biased information to the public.

you can check here:

http://www.freepress.net/ownership/chart/main

the idea that the BBC is objective in its reporting is quite frankly a joke - the BBC is run by a group of govt appointed trustees these trustees are handpicked by senior govt ministers - if these trustees want to keep their jobs and big salaries they must ensure that the BBC reports news which tows the govt line - something that you are accusing Putin of doing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Trust
On the contrary you are quite wrong. This is more like a media arms race with all despots and authoritarian governments trying to ensure they can control world opinion TOO. e.g

China: The CCTV franchise
Russia: RT and all other major news stations who only survive if putin allows.
Iran: Press TV

The others that cannot afford it simply jam the signals and make it punishable to watch them (Mugabe forces rounding up people who were watching the uprisings in Libya and Egypt for treasonable offences).

I do not argue that the US manipulates the media but at least they respect our intelligence when doing so. Not this poorly SCRIPTED news item.

Having a cheery morning, aren't we?

@Poster  You are in full control of your destiny.

First things first, accept your past failure (yes you failed) and accept responsibility for it.

Next, forgive yourself and move on.

As far as having a hope, the simple truth is that you will most likely have a hard life but with some cunning you can still come out tops.

I assume your grades are the results of an active social life which means you will have developed a network too unlike your triangular colleagues who lived in school, library, church throughout school.

As a backup, start off as a freelance marketer for any of the following (banks, insurance companies) and any other companies that pay commissions. They only care how much you sell.

Get some certifications: ICAN, CCNA. Companies might look at that.

Do some free work for companies to add experience to your CV.

If you are stuck in a tiny town, either start farming aggressively or move to the big cities.

ANd you can also try to make money by organising stuff for people to pay money: IT seminars, parties where boys pay to enter, excursions etc.

And of course

Hustle

**LATE ADDITION**
There's money to be made as a real estate agent. learn the tricks of the trade and make some clean cash. its not regular but its one of the few jobs that can pay quite well especially when you live in a big city.

Really, even if the tyrant's family has been ruling for 40+ years??

You really need to do some deep thinking.

is it a crime for someone born a syrian to dream of serving his country at the highest levels instead of eternally worshipping the Assads or the Ghadaffis in the case of libya or the Husseins in Iraq or the ibn Saud in saudi or the other potentates.

Its mischievious to suggest that these people were blind to events in Libya, Tunisia, Yemen, Bahrain, Southern Saudi arabia, Even the West Bank.

Of course I expect the USA to assist where possible but I refuse to believe that they have enough power to motivate a popular uprising that large in syria.
Foreign AffairsRe: UK delegation confirm that gadaffi did not bomb civillians by kodewrita(m): 9:07am On Apr 25, 2011
@Yes they are more credible, why?

They are not owned by the government. They may be sympathetic, biased(to the point of insanity) but they are independent. Putin more or less owns RT.

You my friend need to clean your glasses and get out of the marxist library.

I dont believe CNN either but the video I saw was without commentary and the Libyan official in question kept stammering without giving a cogent reply.

At least CNN makes a better attempt at being objective even though they are definitely not by any long shot. BBC is still much more objective.

Africans need to move beyond the independence struggle mentality and the cold war.

Marxism failed.
There is no West.
We are our greatest enemies (generator importers killing power, road contractors deliberately creating bad roads, ministers of petroleum practising illegal bunkering, governors funding terrorism/assassinations and of course africans supporting tyranny).

Stop supporting tyranny and despotism on our continent.

You are quoting Russian TV you big dollop.

They were invited by a Ghadaffi Government that could not show CNN the so-called wounded civilians (They actually took them on a merry-go-round tour of the town).

Stop showing us staged Russian Propaganda.

if they were so objective, they should have visited the rebels too.

He avoided the direct question on whether Ghadaffi staged the tour and simply kept rambling about NATO needing to stop. Answer the direct question, self-servicer. He did not.

This is a very naive and suspicious advert paid for by the ghadaffi govt while the russian interviewer makes a weak attempt at objectivity.

I have seen much better propaganda on PressTV.

the bulk of intelligence work is not gadgets, satellites, spies and teenage-looking great hackers. Its mostly boring analysts and researchers slaving away at analysing newspapers, agric reports, web-forums, TV clips and such whatnot. You would be amazed at the amount of info they can glean by simply reading between the lines.

A graduate of Nassarawa State Univeisty
A geologist friend from there happens to be one of the best young geologists I have personally met. Works as a highly paid petroleum geologist now and the bulk of the people that work in the oil industry are actually recruited from UNIBEN,FUTO, UNIPORT in that order. the rest come from the southwest. As such your country runs on the sweat of UNIBEN graduates. (Am not one. I schooled in the SW).

Common, take your head outta your arse for a second and think about what you just posted? So we shouldnt care when truckdrivers, with wives and children, get killed on our treacherous roads? So in your opinion, the life of a barely literate , lazy scammer c/u/m youth corper is worth more than a tax paying, hardworking, responsible truck driver, innit?
A truck driver is not constrained by law to drive, HE CHOOSES TO DO SO. A corper is forced usually against their will to serve. Give the corper a chance to work immediately after school and he'll pay tax.

You think someone who majored in Igbo language or Sociology has limitless potential?
Oh definitely, if they know the way. I have family friends who studied languages and currently work for NGOs. There are people working for google and european consulting firms who handle translation services and are very highly paid. If you were an interpreter for UNICEF, you would be paid real big bucks.
Besides they serve a useful purpose.

Besides there's no point having censuses, since you feel our sociologists are unimportant. You probably failed those courses in the past anyway. explains why you are not open-minded enough to realise the true purpose of a university.

I seriously suspect you are a dropout. I guess the system failed you. That seems to explain the vile way you have approached this topic.

They get paid, dont they?

All jobs are risky, NO?

If you look at the ratio killed to not-killed, you'd agree with me that being a corper is a far safer job than being a truck driver for example. Yet, no one has deemed it necessary to make any noise about the precariousness of truck driving.

You all are bunch of bigots c-u/m reetrads.
You expect someone with limitless potential to risk his/her life for a paltry 15k salary for a government that will not save you when you call. Who gives a flying f**ck about truck drivers. thats a life choice they made. Corpers are forced by nigerian law to give a year for mostly useless activities.

I tweeted this earlier but I just want to throw around a few ideas (hope Seun stays away long enough for us to have interesting replies).

A few theories:

1. My number one theory: Amazon EC2 went down around the same period. Sites like Quora, Reddit, FourSquare and so many web giants were offline. Coincidence?!! but Nairaland runs on PHP, how would that work on EC2? (Are you entirely sure: Nairalist runs on Python and Seun's also a Scala/Java guy).

2. Politically Motivated/Criminally motivated Denial Of Service Attack: Whatever the motivations, this seems like a plausible one too.

3. Nairaland is self hosted in OTA(  grin grin grin grin grin ) and the simple culprit is (Drum rolllsss), PHCN

4.Seun decided to do sys maintenance and did not care to inform us (Not possible: He cares more about his members than that).

5.  ?

{Your ideas are welcome}
PoliticsRe: SE Governors Should Map Out And Plan New Towns Now by kodewrita(m): 1:00pm On Apr 22, 2011
Actually I thought of this too. It would be a good idea NOT JUST FOR THE EAST but the west too.

If you think Enugu was not totally planned, watch an aerial view of Ibadan or Ogbomoso. Miles of red rusting roofs and roads vanishing in cul de sacs and ditches (also functioning as roads).

my issues with the idea is that it still contributes to deforestation in a way. Besides any new developments should aim at being near car-free if possible. that would really increase the quality of living.

Siting it near a big city is sensible but another thing might also be to site the kind of establishments that draw people in the town e.g universities(aside from federal ministries, the universities are arguably the most effective way to get people from all walks of life in one place. thats where we meet. NYSC is just a passing out parade) and manufacturing firms.

Thats the best way to develop the nigerian hinterland I think other than forcibly rebuilding cities by siezing large tracts of built up land, destroying the ugly little bungalows and actually changing the landscape from the ground-up. Unfortunately/Fortunately we are a democracy and that will not happen any time soon.

cap28:
your obsession with gadaffi reeks of hypocrisy, why call for one dictator to be removed but keep mute over the murderous and brutal regime of another one - can't you see that what you are following defies logic?

if you say the US should remove gadaffi - then what say you about the indiscriminate bombing of innocent civillians by US drones in iraq, afghanistan and pakistan? Should america not also be facing prosecution for crimes against humanity? how about israel's murderous atrocities comitted against the palestinians, shouldnt they also be dragged before the International criminal court?

if you say gadaffi is a brutal tyrant - then what say you about the house of saud and the bahraini royal family?

you see this whole thing is a hypocritical mess, the US have the guts to talk about dragging gadaffi before the ICC, but they refused to become members of this same court for fear of facing prosecution for crimes against humanity perpertrated in iraq, afghanistan and now pakistan - the whole thing makes no sense.

You can not be an arbiter of justice if your hands are soaked in other people's blood, only 3 months ago america and europe were lining up for oil and gas contracts from this man they now want dead, does that make sense to you?

what sort of world are we living in where the rules only apply to those who can not defend themselves from military attack?

oh and let me tell you only US/UK dictators labelled as enemies are targetted for removal NOT friendly dictators - if not why are the saudis and bahrainis still killing bahraini civillians with impunity?

with regard to chavez - are you aware that the US govt tried to topple his regime in 2002 and failed? the CIA kidnapped and almost murdered him but the venezuelans demanded his release within 48 hours and threatened to destablilise the entire country if he wasnt produced unharmed -did you know this? chavez is the venezuelan people's choice -the americans can not get rid of him because he won the elections in his country by an overwhelming landslide AND key members of the army support him.

the leaders of other arab nations like egypt, UAE, qatar, saudi arabia and bahrain are cowards, traitors and hypocrites -look at how quick they were to sell their fellow arab brother - gadaffi down the river by sanctioning the UNSC resolution, for fear of being the next target of attacks from the EU and the US, they are shameless cowards, but they are expendable, if the US could jettison their long term friend and ally Mubarak they will do the same with any other arab leader, other nations shoudl learn from this and realise that the US/UK are ruthless barbarians who do not have permanent friends just permanent economic interests.
Based on this we should move a motion and ask the US to start WWIII by attacking Saudi or Bahrain. One NATO boot landing in Anger on Saudi soil irrespective of the cause would be tantamount to asking all the muslims from Indonesia all the way to Northern Nigeria to head towards the middle east. It would be a war they cant win and it wont end with NATO Just leaving. It will draw in so many other combatants including Israel and Iran.

hence the caution.

You read a few leaves and become armchair geopolitical scientist without looking deeper at the issues and the factures already inherent in this world system.

I dont support all the other tyrants and in fact I believe Bahrain in particular is just an uprising waiting to happen.

I agree - the average african is very very slow, unable to discern when they are being tricked and full of empty hot air, no wonder the europeans succeeded in annexing the entire african continent so efficiently and effectively.

when i read some of the comments on here i get a terrible sinking feeling in my stomach - our people are so ignorant and clueless it beggars beleif. It is now so obvious that this current intervention in libya is a neo colonial annexation and yet there are people on here STILL babbling on about humanitarianism - i mean when are the lights going to go on in these people's heads?

Its so shameful that in this day and age we are still being fooled by the same old enemy.
I beg to differ. If your beliefs about africans is this bad, then why bother trying to talk to us. Let me assure you that this is simply a phase. You will soon realise as I have (after going down the route of reading Mao's Green Book like a bible and so many other leninist, marxist and communist manuals among other revolutionary philosophies) that touting colonialism is old and woefully unfit for present conditions.

Singapore and all the south east asian countries suffered colonialism. why are they ahead now?

It is easier to attack the west online and make noise about them but it is much harder to turn your searchlight inside to attack the enemy within.

Focus on our leaders' issues and leave the world to itself.
