Which Patrica Etteh from Osun State? Please carry your load. She's not from anywhere here.

As for the zoning, we dont give a hoot.

When we start moving (as I hope we do), we'll drag the rest of you forward into the 21st century BY THE NOSE, willing or not.
Foreign AffairsRe: Gadhafi Son And Grandchildren Killed As Nato Targets The Libyan Leader's Home by kodewrita(m): 1:54pm On May 01, 2011
He knew the odds and he still stayed there.

He got what he deserved.

He has been killing for 40 years and financing terror and finally the terror has hit close to home.

Nice that NATO turned his sitting room into Little Misurata. Let the pain be felt on both sides.

PapaBrowne:
No fly Zones come to mind!! One thing I love about this election is how it drew out the perfect map of the two countries that would possibly emerge!! That map is simply divides in terms of Sharia states and Non Sharia states. Buhari won the Sharia states and Jonathan won the non Sharia states.

Any coup would put an end to the entity called Nigeria. Its so simple. There would be no need for a war. Calaber would become the new capital and Jonathan would serve as president from there. No need to talk too much.
You are assuming that we will go with you and that we will allow our selves to be ruled from Calabar. Imagine. There are only three possible capitals for us: Abuja, Lagos or Ibadan. C'est fini.

efisher:
It is definitely a good sign. It represents Nigeria's new significance on the international scene. Would you prefer that nobody wants to visit Nigeria? We do not live in a bubble so I do not expect people to say we do not want or need Obama's visit. Every country has its problems but it doesn't stop them from associating with others. Like it or not Obama's presence in a country speaks volumes!
Good sign/Bad sign. I could care less. I just dont like the way he advertises his presence here in nigeria as some kind of priviledge. Its a sight-seeing trip and we are not even interested. Ofcourse I know you fanboys would like to see him first hand. No problem

As for the Security council ish, lets discuss that later on some other thread.

izeek:
Seems the main issue has been disregarded here.
The question i believe should have been how many nigerian guys propose maraige really.
The norm has always been that the girl either keeps asking the guy"when r u coming to see my people", or the guy wakes up one morning and tells her " lets go and see your people". Inn between all this, no ring changes hands. Its the girl who eventually buys herself an engagment ring when she is sure she is "the one". Thats the naija way.
thats new. My assumption was that she keeps bugging him until he finally gathers some courage to go visit the parents. Comes back after the ordeal and THEN BUYS the ring for her. never tried it though. but thats what I'd prefer.
FamilyRe: Would You Marry Someone Who Proposed With No Ring? by kodewrita(m): 8:39am On May 01, 2011
frankly, I feel its all protocol but since her emotions are important to me, I dont want to spend the next 50+ years hearing over the dinner table that I proposed without a ring.

But seriously why would a dude do that?
PoliticsRe: Obama Considers Visiting Nigeria by kodewrita(m): 1:55am On May 01, 2011
A nation with few good roads, poor healthcare that seasonally plays host to roving bands of miscreants wants to hold forth over its betters. That thought is very repulsive to me.

Its a deep nigerian problem. thats why you will see people borrow money to sow party uniforms for social events even when they are living hand to mouth.

A thirst for the glamorous superficial over pragmatic daily solutions.

PoliticsRe: Obama Considers Visiting Nigeria by kodewrita(m): 12:51am On May 01, 2011
Beaf:
An "eyes open" relationship with the US will be of immense benefit to Nigeria' World standing and development. We must welcome Obama with open arms, he is one of ours and must be made to feel at home. We must also have minutely detailed plans, policies and guidelines for any relationship with the US.

The US can help us in quite a few technological areas if the flow of oil is guaranteed.
Of massively greater importance though, is the diplomatic clout the US brings to the table as a member of the security council. For years now, there has been a clamour for a widening of the security council, with the two contenders for Africa being Nigeria and SA.
Nigeria needs that security council seat, because by making us the undisputed African top dog, it will open all sorts of doors. Nothing will move on the continent without our input.

It goes without saying that SA has always looked the favourite for the spot whenever it becomes available, however in recent times, SA has made several foolish moves on the international scene, they have willingly went against the grain of international opinion in the buildup to the Libyan war, only to double back on themselves; something similar happened in Ivory Coast as well, they challenged Nigeria on our turf, scuttled all talks and sent in a warship, but they lost out badly yet again and ended up fully endorsing the Nigerian position.
SA's constant bumbling in this period makes it an opportune time to woo the US with oil. We can also woo the UK with our market (David Cameron has already strongly expressed optimism).

We can achieve a lot with the right friendships, so long as our eyes remain wide open.
Dont seek greatness. Deserve it.

The security council is not our number one issue now. Lets focus on and solve our problems instead of useless grandstanding around the world.

Let's see. what do we have here?

Full grown woman goes to guy's house for late-night project.

Has possibly been kissing the guy for two months prior to the said incident.

Makes out with the guy four times (details not necessary but mental image of breast-handling and fingering) on the day of said incident.

willingly takes off her underwear.

Rides dude and claims she didnt enjoy it.

Not entangled by any chains and still works with the same dude.

Unsuccessfully tried to stop having sex with you BECAUSE THE OTHER GUY FELT BAD.

Already compared you with the other dude verbally and you lost. Before she now bleeped him.

It might be very painful (it is very very painful from personal experience) but I think you should walk. Find someone else.

hercules07:
I can see that you had people who were affected by the purge in the civil service at that time
Nope. family friends maybe but no personal touch. My dad's been an entrepreneur for 21+ years and damn good at it (that kept us fed while Akande starved us by not paying salaries on time).

hercules07:
actually Ilesha is not a small place, it is even bigger than Oshogbo, just to correct that impression
I agree, we Ilesha people dont like being told that Ilesa is small. I like the town and its people sha. They just need to be less myopic and realise their strategic location and significance. But ilesa is small. Dont go criticizing people in taxi cabs, they are all cousins. You could get a punch up the nose in the most unlikely of locations. Besides its one of the few towns where you can decide you wont be following a particular cab driver and its small enough that you will actually see the guy again and still recognise him. try that in Lagos.

hercules07:
scrapping a course because it is of no benefit to the state is in order
No it isnt. The NUC and other educational bodies have that responsibility. some two-bit mis-educated governor cannot wake up and cancel courses. One of the biggest money-spinners in Osun besides agriculture and some small industries is tourism. That cannot be fully exploited without fine art. Besides they are vocational courses and are put in the curriculum to ensure that people can fend for themselves even if they have no jobs. How can someone given the responsibility of ensuring our present/future welfare be so myopic?

hercules07:
he pays the piper, he dictates the tune.
Wrong again. He doesnt pay the piper, WE DO. with our tax money and the work of our hands. Our kids deserve the right education not cost-cutting measures by an accountant-in-office. Agreed that is the knee-jerk reaction of old-era accountants (also derisively nicknamed bean-counters) who live by the balance sheet, only see numbers and cannot look beyond the numbers to face the real issues, but we expect more from a governor.
Nairaland GeneralRe: If You Had A Billion Dollars, What Would You Do With It? by kodewrita(m): 8:16am On Apr 30, 2011
set aside one million dollars for each year I have spent on the planet. (am not hundred /fifty/even 30 so it wont make a dent).

Start travelling round the world buying up fast moving real estate properties (newly created island property like in dubai, new vgc-type places in emerging markets, farmland in eastern europe, hotels in rio de janeiro, jo'burg real estate, Greater city PH, New Lagos). I will need to buy the kind of land that will jump in value by at least 250% over three years.

Then I'll take an instant one year retreat in some quiet island location for some required rest from years of running the rat race and also to get used to the fact that I am super-rich.

and after maybe 18+ months of inactivity, I'll come back and start STEADILY selling SOME of my landed properties to start businesses.

Gentlemen, Your knowledge of both history and english tenses is sorely lacking. I said my mum IS STILL a civil servant. Contrary to popular propaganda by the AD people, He was not sacking people for logical reasons like age, he was sacking for plainly silly reasons like Fine arts/humanities not being important.

@hercules07, I guess u live in ilesha. You realise that town is a small place and its easy to verify everything. Ask any lecturer who was there then, he'll tell you the guy was actually trying to axe fine arts/home economics and so many other courses simply based on personal preference.

As for the so-called silly entitlements, thats dumb. You deprive a man of working age of his steady source of income, pay him a mere pittance and then talk about sanitisation.

One more thing. My JETS competition was  pre-2001 and Bola Ige was definitely alive at the time. You clearly do not know when Akande was there. And yes they are maternal cousins.

@seanet use double strikethrough if you like, the truth is the truth. ACN (in their many colours) cannot fool us.

You are the ones trying to rewrite history.

The way I see it, THE SOUTHWEST IS CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO MARAUDING BANDS OF HOOLIGANS/THIEVES WHO REPLACE EACH OTHER EVERY FOUR YEARS. ACN AND PDP. Neither of them good, with a few angels here and there like raisins in a cow pat.
PoliticsRe: South West Liberated: Stolen Goods Recovered - Joe Igbokwe by kodewrita(m): 4:02pm On Apr 29, 2011
Please spare me. the voting booth was jsut 4 houses away from me, so we saw it firsthand. we all stood in front of the polling booth and gisted. compare that with what happened when aregbesola was schemed out: Mass violence.

He was kicked out sir. KICKED OUT. kicked out in spite of the fact that his first cousin, Bola Ige (RIP), came back to try and calm us with oratory.

If he was so loved, tell me why his motorcade was stoned in Iree.

If there was any military might, I did not see it.

The only election where we saw the military was the one involving Aregbesola. that was when they were brought in to stop the violence by aggrieved ACN-sympathisers.

hercules07:
Kodewrita please do not take the word of civil servants as the voice of the people of Osun State, there was no way PDP won osun in a free and fair election, the people voted Akande but Oyinlola and Obasanjo using military might usurped the powers of the people, Lam Adesina was fairly voted out.
You would rather not hear it but WE KICKED HIM out.

Besides, why would you tell us not to take the word of civil servants. They felt the pain of his jackboot and he totally underrated them by telling us that "They are less than 1% of the population and they are making noise" as if sacked civil servants dropped from heaven with no dependents.

I dont know whether to call him corrupt but I am certain of his incompetence and sheer arrogance.

PoliticsRe: South West Liberated: Stolen Goods Recovered - Joe Igbokwe by kodewrita(m): 1:46pm On Apr 29, 2011
you make comments from the safety of lagos.

I lived in Osun state through out that period and my mother is still a civil servant.

All I could hear from people was the need to get Akande out.

I can reliably inform you that when He now came up with the plan to sack fine arts and yoruba teachers, the teachers associations at the different levels actually started working with PDP against him.

If there was any rigging, it was not just sanctioned but also popularly encouraged. WE ALL WANTED HIM GONE. PDP just capitalised on that.

How come Oyinlola had things so easy if he was that bad? Answer: He did not touch the civil servants, NO MATTER WHAT.

Compared with Akande who sacked close to 7000 people

(I was ashamed when the elderly Bauchi state representative at the JETS competition came to our table and asked who the Osun state people were. He gleefully told us the breaking news that our Governor just sacked 7000 workers in one day.)

And later, my classmates in the university had the effrontery to claim He lost because we were largely illiterates. They ignored an obvious fact: Outside Lagos state, the AD/AC/ACN has been no different from the PDP.

They have been thieves and very very repulsive.

Akande was the first to kick against the minimum wage as if Osun state couldnt afford.

He had the worst labour record of his time: he sacked more workers than even nearby Oyo where Lam & family were busy wrecking havoc (only superseded by the moronic bleaching governor).

He has lost any respect he had in Osun state and he deserved to be kicked out.

Next time you people take us for fools, we will kick you out. That applies to PDP,ACCORD,LP and the rest of you polithiefians.
PoliticsRe: South West Liberated: Stolen Goods Recovered - Joe Igbokwe by kodewrita(m): 9:16am On Apr 29, 2011
just to correct some assumptions in your document.

Lam Adesina was not removed by PDP. He was kicked out.

Akande too was kicked out.

One more thing: stop trying to fool us with "hero of democracy". that means nothing if you will still steal our funds when you get there.
