Meliforme: Judging by Chukwueze's typical game standard and rating, he had a very poor game. Out of just 31 touches of the ball, he made 4 key passes, had only 1 successful cross out of 5 attempts, completed only 1 dribble out of 3 attempts. He completed 13 passes out 16 attempts, placing his passing accuracy at 81%.
Chukwueze had a very poor game, but with just 72 minutes on the pitch, dude made 4 key passes.
Going by this stats Chukwueze wasn't even the forward with the poorest stat going forward. We are not defending against Sudan. We might be playing against a team that might likely sit deep. We need forwards who can create scoring chances. Eguavoen should find a way to play Chukwueze, Iwobi and Nwakali together. Statistics man I hail o Oga Meli...okay who are you dropping for Iwobi and Nwakili |

TheGoodJoe:
I think Eguavoen will maintain the same formation. That is an offensive one with lots of players that can contribute to goal scoring and assists.
So I don't think dropping Aribo will work.
I see Kelechi Nwakali playing a more offensive role. He has the capacity of giving tidy through passes and can serve as an asset when we are on counters. That post is a PUZZLE Oga thegoodjoe.......Nwakili should have been a starter but technical crew are still working on his off ball work rate, with ball on his feet cool guy but without ball he need to do more, possibly Ndidi-Onyeka will give Nwakili more freedom to express himself. We just had a match, hope to see more players as we progress. |

Meliforme: This is how he expresses his gratitude to a coach that kept faith in him despite his crosses to Chinhuahua.
This is how he makes excuses for his shambolic shows, as if anything has improved in his performances: A handful of pagan crosses. 0 key passes, 0 assists. 0 shots on target.
What we have seen of him is his trademark defending which is commendable for a forward and his speedy runs which makes good highlights of his wing plays. So what exactly has changed.
In the game against Egypt, our forward line was the weakest, maybe because of our strategy to defend against Salah. We can do more with the personnel we have.
There are players that should have no business sitting on the bench. Let me see the players Eguavoen will field tomorrow.
My favourite name for Moses Simon is Daddy. i just modified this post with this addendum to make it clear how much i love the man Moses Simon, but Moses Simon will be happier if we are playing to our full potential. Oga meli, are you in to football coaching...okay how do you see this Nwakili over Aribo Ejuke over Moses Iheanacho as CF over Awoniyi Ebuehi over Aina........and starting Xi 1.Okoye 2.Ebuehi 3.Zaidu 4.Omeruo 5.Ekong 6.Ndidi 7.Onyeka 8.Nwakili 9.Iheanacho 10.Ejuke 11.Chuckwueze. ***Oga meli, pls tell us players who are not suppose to sit on the bench in today's game. |

Meliforme: Why will i not rate a player who has 12 goals overall for his club. All that i am saying is that Osimhen is more handful and that Sadiq impressed me more with glimpses of his skills.
Eguavoen may have expected more from Sadiq (Sadiw, I think i like this variant after that typo error coming a moniker in here), but that is not the point the point is that i will not wait for eguavoen to rate a player, before giving my rating.
I am not Eguavoen and Eguavoen is not me. Opinions always differ but wishes always the same...I wish eagles well against Sudan tomorrow. |

Yes, Taiwo is Taiwo let's enjoy what we have. It all started with my reply to a post that said "Taiwo replaced Osimhen perfectly" Sir Meli, just say you don't rate Awoniyi Taiwo, simple and we move on....mind you I have players I don't rate in GWG and Ekong is one but the guy did very well against Egypt. Sadiq better than Taiwo against Egypt said it all....Sadiq that Eguavoen needed to visit his room to talk to him that he wasn't impressed with his performance. Good the legend like Asamoah Gyan is rating Nigeria as team to beat in this Afcon based on our Egypt match. Baba, just calm down and let see how this team unfolds as tournament progress. |

Meliforme: Cheif, You mean Taiwo replaced Osimhen perfectly?
Awoniyi won only 1 ground duel out of 8. 1 aerial duel out of 8. 0 dribbles. 0 key passes.
In which area of play was he a perfect replacement.
I will commend Awoniyi's movements and pressing, but he is still not on Osimhen's level. Osimhen owns the physicality (speed, strength and stamina) and the tactics (intelligence). If you can remember his somehow diagonal press against Cape Verde. He reads his opponents well
If you didn't use the word perfect, i would have ignored. Did I say they are on the same level?...I don't think you rate Osimehn as I do....prior to Afcon I was one those that always saying we will miss Osimehn to the extent andrew44 needed to caution me that available guys will do the needful. We beat Egypt and Awoniyi did well and I believe Osimehn doing more than Awoniyi in that match is 60/40 and using word perfectly should not be an issue but if you have issue with it,that's my opinion. Pls can you beat your chests prior to that match that we are beating Egypt even if Victor Osimehn was available. The report is uncalled for at the moment that we missed Osimehn against Egypt...we didn't missed him and I wish we don't miss him in our subsequent matches cos missing him not good for us in this Afcon. Osimehn remain the number one GWG CF and not easy to be displaced but damn good that he can be replaced in case of any eventuality.I saw that against Egypt and mind you I based my point on Egypt match. Good we are having Eguavoen not Rohr who would have cried out that no way for this team without Victor Osimehn,Odion Ughalo,Leon Balogun,Shehu Abdullahi and Kevin Akpoguma. |

MetalJigsaw: Two Things That Could Have Happened If Victor Osimhen Was In The Game Against Egypt. News Hub Creator
Nigeria played one of their best games on Tuesday, the 11th day of January 2022. The game was against the Pharaohs of Egypt and the Super Eagles got the better of the North African side by 1-0, courtesy of the goal scored by Leicester City's striker, Kelechi Iheanacho.
The Super Eagles had a good game, but there were still some players who were not on top of their game. This now leads to the question, what would have happened if Victor Osimhen was in action against the Pharaohs of Egypt?
Probably, Taiwo Awoniyi played to his best, but his best couldn't have been up to the best of Victor Osimhen of Napoli. Let's take a look at what could have happened if Victor Osimhen played against the Egyptians.
1. The Super Eagles would have scored more goals in that game; Taiwo Awoniyi played well, but he was not pacy enough to connect with Moses Simon, who was always on the run towards the box of the Egyptians. In that game, one of the strengths of the Super Eagles was their solidity in the midfield.
The Eagles were strong in the midfield that the attackers of the Pharaohs of Egypt hardly went pass them. With such performance in the midfield, Victor Osimhen would have scored at least a goal in that game. He is pacy and has good positioning.
2. The defenders of the Pharaohs of Egypt would have been restricted to their box; fear factor is one thing that works in the game of football. There are a couple of strikers who are feared by the defenders, and Victor Osimhen is one of those strikers. His presence on the pitch would have kept the defenders on their toes in that game, this would have given the Super Eagles more opportunities to press them more in their box.
It's really painful that Victor Osimhen couldn't play at this tournament. Do you think Taiwo Awoniyi would possibly replace Victor Osimhen as expected? Let's have your thoughts on this article in the comments' section. Sir,against Egypt Awoniyi replaced Osimehn perfectly and too early to judge,so let's wait and see him and Sadiq more in our subsequent matches. Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar were 5th and 6th rated CF behind Victor Osimehn,Odion Ighalo,Onuachu,Moffi under Rohr and for the duo to shake off that pressure against Egypt is a plus. We beat 7 times Afcon winner with Mo Sallah and prior to that match the odds favor Egypt....none here can say it that we are beating Egypt but now Ighalo and Osimehn would have done more just like Sallah did more with Egypt. Kudos to Eguavoen for the confidence. |

forgiveness: Because the fancy team is avoiding injury while the less fancy team are desperate to impress. Thank you for this simple explanation....when a team had a competitive match, the next training is called recovery training for the XI and it doesn't last more than 30 mins...Those that didn't feature or had less minutes against Egypt were damn fresh and expected they must have an edge and secondly they just need to raise their games to be considered as a starter. Late Rasheed Yekini doesn't score much in trainings but crazy when it comes to real test....more reasons a psychologist is important in any team. |

safarigirl: What is "young pretenders" about Awoniyi?
Why do you feel the need to disrespect people that are doing a business in order to elevate some others?
If this thing you wrote came from an honest place, you would have left Awoniyi and Sadiq, but because it comes from negativity, you feel the need to throw in names that have no business in this talk.
Ighalo is not in AFCON, he will not be there, so, we honestly don't give a shit what he would have done, because a far better striker in the person of Salah is at this same AFCON and his first game was shit anyway.
Our strikers are decent and will come through, the ones we actually managed to get. Stop insulting them because you want to kiss the ass of an absentee forward The big question, would Ighalo have done better than Awoniyi against Egypt?NO |

charlesemeka85: Interim Nigeria boss Augustine Eguavoen has acknowledged that Almeria star Umar Sadiq did not play on the same level as Taiwo Awoniyi after coming off the bench to replace the Union Berlin striker in the 72nd minute of a 1-0 win vs Egypt in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday evening.
In truth, Sadiq, who is having another outstanding season at Almeria, did not add value when he came on, failing to hold up play, create a goal threat and didn't cause problems for the backline.
Eguavoen argued that the former Rangers man was nervy because he was playing in his first major tournament - something that didn't hold water as Sadiq was a key member of the Nigeria squad that won bronze at the Olympic Games in 2016, has Serie A experience and sixteen games under his belt in European competitions.
The 24-year-old made his senior debut against the seven-time African champions.
Asked if he was bothered that Sadaq didn't play on the same level as the player he replaced, Eguaoven told reporters at the post-match press conference : "Umar I think this is the first time playing in a very big stage and we have to talk to him.
"He gave me some few excuses after the game but it's something psychological so we have to talk to him and address it in future games."
Sadiq started all the six matches played by the Dream Team VI at the 2016 Olympics, scoring four goals. Eguavoen has said it all but am surprised seeing some trying to defend Sadiq performance but it was obvious he didn't bring any synergy to the team....the same thing Ejuke who I rate highly nothing special about him against Egypt...Nwakili came in and his presence was not felt....Chuckwueze damn too poor and need to sit on the bench in the next game. Kudos to Maduka,Aina,Omeruo,Sanusi and Ekong, they did well...Ndidi brought his A-game. for the first time in GWG..Aribo classic...Iheanacho proved once again that he is the best GWG finisher...Awoniyi did his job well, possibly we are not going to miss Osimehn much...Simon did well. Eguavoen should maintain his XI with exception of Chuckwueze with Iwbi coming in,we need to see Olayinka even as a sub...it seems Onyeka is a direct replacement for Ndidi in case but I thought he should have come in as sub against Egypt. Good game from eagles. |

Icon4s: It was not even Ejide, it was initially Ayenugba. But with time Enyeama grew into becoming a penalty stopper.
If Maduka cannot be our penalty stopper who in the current team do you think can do that? None has that pedigree so far. And it is a cause for worry. Penalties conclude several knock out games in the AFCON. Yes chief,Dele Aiyenugba a good penalty stopper....Dele will say coach am saving at least two out five, just tell guys to score.....Dele thought Enyeama way out of penalty cos the two were great pal to the extent that Enyeama recommended Dele to his club in Isreal when he was joining another club. Maduka Okoye I wish him well cos I don't rate him and very unfortunate that Alloy Agu couldn't get us a talented Keeper for good 7 years running. |
