Raskimonojendor: Nothing credible about the political prostitute. From APGA to PDP to Labour. He swore never go leave APGA. He has zero credibility and honour.
casualobserver: This merger arrangement is medicine after death. These are the same PDP people that could not sort themselves out at the opportune time. It is now that they lost that they realize they should sort themselves out?
The opportunity has gone…..why?
1) the south is already half way through its 8 years. The North is fully aware of what happened with Jonathan and will not make the mistake of voting for a fresh southerner who will get there and feels he is entitled to 8 years. The North would rather back a southerner they know for sure has only 4 years to go that take the chance of a man who is not known to be loyal and respect agreements. They would rather wait 4 years and have 8 years of peace.
2). Obi is unsellable in the core North. As it stands right now, Like it or not, accept it or not, an Ibo man cannot win the presidency without the support of the SW. The SE have not built bridges and trust to earn their votes. Learn from the politics of the SW. the SW is president today because they built bridges and earned the trust of the North. Tinubu is president today not because the SW said it is our turn, you can say it is your turn from now till kingdom come. Tinubu is president because the North said it is the turn of the south and in the south we trust the SW. so when you hear Okonkwo on tv insulting Atiku and calling him a geriatric, remmember these are the people whose votes Obi will need.
3) The only ticket than can wrestle power from Tinubu is Atiku and Obi VP but the ego (which is the same issue that caused the division in the 1st place) will not allow that to happen. You only have to listen to that actor lawyer on Channels yesterday to know that this will never happen. He swore that if Obi accepts To be VP he is done with Obi. This is the reason why the merger will not work. Obi has gone too far down the path and sees himself and indeed is now projecting himself as the de facto opposition to back down to accept the only path that can actually put him in Aso rock….as VP to Atiku.
4) PDP blame Obi for their failure. They resent him. Despite the fact that Wike worked for APC, listen to the way PDP members like Sowunmi and Reno talk affectionately and with respect and awe about Wike but are disparaging towards Obi. You think these people are ready to play second fiddle to Obi and LP? They would rather defect to APC. The insult of an Obi presidency to a PDP man is like someone taking over your family land and asking you to pay rent on it. You would rather die!!!
5) you think Atiku after 6 failed attempts will back down to back Obi who prevented him from snatching his destiny?
In the end the same issues that caused their division in 2023 will cause the failure of any merger. The problem with Atiku, Obi and Kwakwanso is that they have PDP mentality AKA “no gree for anybody” mindset. That is the fundamental difference between APC and PDP. In APC when the party says step down, you step down and work for the party. Umahi was told to step down in senate race and not only step down but become campaign manager for Akpabio. Today he man’s the most powerful ministry in Nigeria which will enhance his profile for a shot at the VP slot in 2031. APc play the long game, PDP are by their DNA short term in their thinking that is why Atiku, Obi and Kwakwanso are serial defectors.
Atiku and Obi missed their appointment with destiny in 2023. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. That opportunity is gone and gone for good. Umahi or Uzodima will enter Aso rock as VP in 2031 and from there……. It is not by chance that Umahi is works minister and Uzodima is chairman APC governors forum…everything APC does especially under Tinubu is deliberate. Obi missed his chance to be VP. His destiny now is as a noise maker.
sukkot: see if he had come to naija through his yoruba side they would have rolled out the red carpet for him. he would meet kings and sanwo olu ( governors ) and the president. instead he outchea eating eba and ugu in some prayer warriors house in obscurity. how can a whole giannis come to nigeria and receive this mediocre reception ? its shameless.
That cracked me up...
Indeed, he would have gotten a red carpet welcome like you said. The Yoruba folks and most of the other cultures of Nigeria are culturally patrilineal EXCEPT the Ijaws who are matrilineal (like some Ghanaian ethnicities).
sukkot: hey my brother konquest happy new year to you too bro. Nah bro I do not see any reason why he would exaggerate something as serious as this. The same situation happened in the vivour Rhodes household with gbadebo where his mother commandeered him to the Igbo side and his dad had to eventually just disown him. The thing here is that the relationship between a Yoruba man and an Igbo woman is very innocent at the onset and the both of them are not thinking about tribe but lust. But further down the line when a child is involved that Igbo woman is going to get very possessive over the children especially if they turn out very well like gbadebo and Gianni’s and that is when she will discover that she is an extreme Igbo patriot and would try to steer the child the Igbo way. Now if the child does not turn out very well you will never have any problems lol. I believe aketi had same problem, they say his son and wife were like a tag team.
Lol... Interesting takes Sukkot.
Women generally tend to have this maternal instinct and pocessiveness towards their children... especially the males, while the females or daughters essentially gravitate towards their dads and become the pampered "daddy's girls"...
Giannis 'Sina Ugo Adetokunbo missed an opportunity to connect with family members within his paternal roots during that first ever summer visit to Nigeria. I have NO issues with him meeting his mother's family members who are from Delta North in Delta State (the same region of Delta State where the iconic actor and Lagos lawmaker Desmond Olusola Elliot's mother comes from. His father being a Yoruba from Olowogbowo, Lagos Island) but I guess there will be another time. Such homecomings from the Diaspora are usually NOT complete if it doesn't feature both sides of the family tree. If Charles Adetokunbo was still alive and not passed on suddenly in the U.S., he would definitely have taken Giannis to visit his own side of the family so he can get to know all his cousins and uncles. In any event it's usually good for a man to take the lead and teach his kids about his family ancestral history and language whether in a multiethnic marriage or not, while NOT denying his kids the knowledge of their maternal roots.
Also, the WhatsApp documentary ought to have scheduled a visit to the Governors of Lagos State and Ogun State (where Charles Adetokunbo, Giannis father originally hailed from). Giannis 'Sina Adetokunbo is on the same pedestal with my OG, Hakeem Olajuwon who had earlier won the 1994 NBA MVP, so he shouldn't just sneak into Nigeria without some form of media publicity. That should be done next time so that more folks who like him can welcome him to his ancestral roots.
When Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua came visiting Nigeria, he was given a rousing welcome in Ogun (his paternal and maternal home state of origin) and Lagos States with visits to many interesting locations to inspire people and also visit the Governors of those two states.
Adenex3051: We just felt a major land tremor in several parts of Ibadan Oyo state about 30-40 minutes ago resulting in louvers and glass ware breakages. A friend has his flat screen TV fall but thankfully the screen remained intact. Was this tremor felt in any neighbouring states or other part of the country?
ikewaterwater: Nigerian basketball star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, has been listed as one of the highest paid NBA players of 2018 by Forbes Magazine. The 24-year-old Nigerian basketball star who was listed as one of the highest paid NBA players of 2018, made $35.5million last year. Giannis Antetokounmpo a.k.a “the Greek Freak”, first talked about his home country, Nigeria for the first time in a 2019 interview with a sports website called The Undefeated.
His Nigerian side is reflected on his Twitter bio and he also about getting his Nigerian passport in 2015.The NBA star was born on December 6, 1994, in Athens, Greece to Nigerian parents, Charles and Veronica Adetokunbo. He was born three years after his parents moved to the European country. His name was originally Adetokunbo, but it became Antetokounmpo after a misspelling in his Greek passport.
Forbes revealed that his earnings went nearly 500% up in 2018 due to a new $100 million deal with the Bucks, as well as a Nike contract extension. His previous Nike deal paid roughly $20,000 annually, while his new pact will pay an estimated $9 million in the first year with more to come when Nike releases Antetokounmpo's first signature shoe in 2019. He also has deals with BMO Harris, Tissot, Kronos Foods and several more in his native Greece. The Greek Freak has increased his annual scoring average by at least four points per game each of his five-year career. He averaged a career-high 27 points during the 2017-18 season.
PoloG: his name is giannis adetokunbo but spelt in greek form.
he is a proud yoruba blood and not an omo igbo
Even the name "Antetokoumpo" is NOT a Greek name. Many Greeks who were interviewed don't know the literal meaning. The publication that did the interviews later found out from Giannis that the name means "from across the sea" which is just the same translation of the Yoruba family name Adetokunbo which means "a crown brought from across the sea (or ocean)."
The name Antetokoumpo is just a bastardized or corrupted form of the original family name Adetokunbo. The silly Greek passport guys allegedly misspelled the name but I find the excuse ridiculous. I watched a 2016 NBA documentary and the younger Giannis was still using the surname Adetokunbo when he came in newly to the U.S. from Greece. I strongly wish the whole family could ditch that corrupted version (of the prestigious Yoruba name Adetokunbo) called "Antetokoumpo" and REVERT to the real Adetokunbo family name on their travel passports and on their team jerseys. Period.
sukkot: Very sad story in how his dad and his mother hated each other’s culture and were trying to impose their own respective culture on the children. He said his dad would get angry if his mom tried to teach him Igbo and his mom would get angry if the dad tried to teach him Yoruba and because of that he never learnt any Nigerian language because he didn’t want to let any of his parents down by learning the others language and culture. Such a toxic environment.
Sukkot, Happy New Year once again.
Giannis Adetokunbo could have exaggerated a bit on that... I doubt if the Adetokunbo couple would have been openly hostile to each other's languages like that after being married for so long (Charles Adetokunbo being originally from Abeokuta in Ogun State and Veronica Adetokunbo being from Delta North in Delta State). Moreover they lived in Lagos State where Yoruba is openly spoken before migrating to Greece back in the early 1990s.
It's also the duty of a father to teach his kids his own language and the duty of the mother to teach her kids her own language in a multiethnic marriage. In the event that a woman is very fluent in both languages, then she can teach both since linguists say kids are able to learn or assimilate multiple languages at once.
naptu2: Someone sold him a Giannis shirt at Balogun and the person didn't know who he was. The person knew Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he didn't know that the person standing in front of him was Giannis.
Malawian: Which part of Yorubaland is his dad from?
Giannis' father Charles Adetokunbo hailed from Abeokuta in Ogun State but lived in Lagos with his wife and first born before migrating to Greece in the early 1990s.
omojoibo: As an NBA champion, the game of basketball has taken Giannis Antetokounmpo all around the globe, not only in terms of physical presence but also in regards to influence. But out of all the places that the superstar athlete has touched down in, there was one locale that was calling him, a country that he'd never been: Nigeria.
While the world knows Antetokounmpo for his Greek nationality, popularly touted as the "Greek Freak," a nickname he's embraced, those closest to him call him "Ugo." It's the star's Nigerian name, as he's the son of parents Charles and Veronica Adetokunbo. They immigrated from Lagos to Athens, having to change their surname to Antetokounmpo in the process, and there, the star and three of his four brothers were born.
Since then, the Greek-Nigerian has accomplished plenty, going from playing in youth clubs in Athens to being drafted into the NBA, becoming a champion in 2021 and being named one of the league's greatest players of all time as part of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. But in all those years, his 29 years specifically, he'd never been home home.
So this past summer, after missing out on the chance to visit Nigeria in 2020 due to the pandemic, Antetokounmpo and his mom, Vera, made the trek to his father's land. For his first trip to Lagos, the star was also accompanied by a film crew, including director Rick Famuyiwa, himself the son of Nigerian immigrants, to capture the experience for a new documentary done with WhatsApp, with whom Antetokounmpo has a partnership
Yup! Giannis 'Sina Ugo Adetokunbo... One of five sons of a Yoruba father from Abeokuta in Ogun State and a mother from Delta North (Anioma) in Delta State.
I wish Charles Adetokunbo was still alive to help in fully integrating his four sons who were born in Greece with his paternal roots in Lagos and Ogun States. Coincidentally I watched a documentary film on these boys just yesterday and noticed that the two youngest Adetokunbo boys have strong American accents. Only Giannis and his immediate older brother who both play in the NBA still have the strong Greek accents.
Nice to know Giannis Adetokunbo made it to the motherland for the first time ever.
Only three players in NBA history have earned both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same campaign, with Antetokounmpo (Adetokunbo) and Hakeem Olajuwon being two of those along with Michael Jordan.
#Giannis, walking in the footsteps of my OG, Hakeem "the dream" Olajuwon of the Houston Rockets and the NBA MVP back in 1994.
That's a fact... But it's also time to invest more in satellite tracking technologies, surveillance and attack drones, night vision capabilities and more in order to track down these kidnappers who mostly are not even Nigerians. The death penalty too has to be enforced to serve as a deterant.
The Hausa are a native ethnic group in northern Nigeria, West Africa. They speak the Hausa language.
The Hausa are a culturally homogeneous people based primarily in the Sahelian and the sparse savanna areas of southern Niger and northern Nigeria respectively, numbering around 86.84 million people with significant indigenized populations Ghana , Niger in Benin, Cameroon, Ivory Coast as so on
the Hausa-speaking communities are scattered throughout West Africa and on the traditional Hajj route north and east traversing the Sahara, with an especially large population in and around the town of Agadez.
Daura, in northern Nigeria, is the oldest city of Hausaland. The Hausa of Gobir, also in northern Nigeria, speak the oldest surviving classical vernacular of the language.
The Yoruba people are a West African ethnic group who mainly inhabit parts of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo. The areas of these countries primarily inhabited by the Yoruba are often collectively referred to as Yorubaland.
The Yoruba constitute more than 52 million people in Africa. The vast majority of the Yoruba population is today within the country of Nigeria, where they make up 21% of the country's population according to CIA estimations, making them one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa. Most Yoruba people speak the Yoruba language, which is the Niger-Congo language with the largest number of native or L1 speakers.
in this video I will be asking the Hausa people what they like ,think about the Yoruba people
Indeed. The Yorubas have a huge presence of over 2.5 million out of 2.9 million folks of Nigerian descent in Ivory Coast according to official data from the Nigerian embassy in that country. The vast majority are business men and business women from Ejigbo in Osun State, the Ijesas, Oyos, and Ilorin, etc.
Second, Ghana also has a large Yoruba presence for centuries now who engaged in international trading between the Oyo Empire and the Asanti Empire. The Ga-Adangbe who are indigenous to Accra, Ghana too have Yoruba ancestry from Ile Ife and the King of the Ga of Accra visited the Ooni of Ife in 2022 with his royal entourage to reconnect with their Yoruba ancestral homeland.
Last but not least, there is a huge Yoruba presence in (Hausaland) the Far North of Nigeria such as Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, Sakwato (Sokoto) States, etc. In Funtua, the large Yoruba trading and business population who have lived there for over 100 years are known as "Yarbawan Funtua" with some being Hausanized already. For several centuries, the Yorubas within the Oyo Empire traded with Hausaland via the Nupe country long before the British colonization of the area now called Nigeria.
Nice thread.

Tomatoes farming and trading is a very big business, due to the fact that almost everybody eats the vegetable. In Nigeria, tomato farming is majorly done in the northern part of the country so tomatoes and other farm produce are cheap up north. I visited one of the biggest tomatoes market located at (Central market kaduna) to know the current price of tomatoes.
You can get a basket of tomatoes now for #2500 now. We spoke to a trader he said the price of the good normally changes but, it's cheaper now. He added that you can get the bigger basket for # 3500.
The trader added that most of the traders in the market are farmers to, if they can get support to boost the business, the price of food stuff will be cheaper.
dominique: Tomatoes are the easiest to plant, just discard water with tomatoes seeds and watch it start to grow after some weeks. I think you need to dry pepper and okra seeds for them to be able to grow. As for vegetables, you'll have to buy their seeds from farmers, those that sell in the markets can sell to you or direct you on how to get them.
We planted almost everything in our compound. My favourite was ugu and bitterleaf. There was cassava too, and yam and bananas and shọkọ and okro and lots of pawpaws.
It was a single plot of 120mx60m in Ketu Lagos with a 2 storey-house on it too, so planting was all by the edges of the property. The bit I hated was not being able to go to the village for the holidays because my labour was required on our 'farm'.
budaatum: Pawpaw grows quick and is easy to grow. I love it so much that I forbid myself from eating pawpaw that has touched the ground. One for a pound where I live by the way. And half the size of your's too.
I'm jealous! And I miss my farm. It's by a huge lake, so water all year round. I call pawpaw my biscuit, from having to grow it for snack as a child.
ytdivine: I make a lot of money from pawpaw. The demand for this fruit is very high. Fruit Sellers book it ahead of time. With my irrigation system, I always have the fruit every time of the year
ytdivine: The biggest asset one can get is land. Nigeria is blessed with this but unfortunately this potential is under utilized. I converted every space within my compound to garden with variety of vegetables, fruits, crops and tubers.
I can't remember when last I buy oranges, pears, banana, plantain, sour sops, pawpaw, ugu, oha etc from market as I have all this within my home some in commercial quantity.
This thread is to encourage everyone to go back to agriculture in small available space within your disposal. I will be posting pictures to support my claims. Please share your opinion on this
