What some of these folks go through is simply ridiculous tbh. The Sri Lankan woman in the exclusive video paid a whooping 65,000 British pounds to agents who promised to get her a non-existent job in the UK as a carer! SMH.

In what year was this?
It was still very expensive in my opinion.

I dare say it is easier to be rich (or at least well off) now than before, because the opportunities that are available now were not in those days.
@mariahAngel,
Indeed, nicely put.

Folks who are creative thinkers should look for problems in the larger society and then monetize the solutions to a large, targeted audience. No need to reinvent the wheel... Just do it!

Southwest has always been the hot bed for drug trafficking. The elders should do something about this insatiable taste for wealth at all cost in that region .
@Abagworo,

If you had read the post carefully without bias, you would realize that people of different ethnicities were arrested and you chose to criticize the South West and elders from the Southwest. Let me educate you more since you have chosen to engage in confirmation bias like you have been doing lately in some of your NL posts.

Many arrests have been made of several Ibo drug traffickers and drug barons at the Murtala Muhammad Airport and in various parts of Lagos State by the NDLEA for over 20 years now in Ajao Estate in Mafoluku, Victoria Garden City in Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, Satellite Town, Iba New Site, etc, for the illegal production of the highly dangerous methamphetamine (ice or mkpurumiri) in residential areas of Lagos State. Further more, NDLEA sting operations led to the arrest of more of these mainly Anambra-born drug traffickers and drug barons who have built mansions with criminal proceeds while falsely claiming to the public to be legit millionaire and billionaire traders at Alaba International in Ojo, Lagos, in the towns of Ozubulu, Nnewi, Asaba, Owerri, Abuja, etc.

=>https://guardian.ng/news/ndlea-arrests-billionaire-drug-baron-in-vgc-lagos/

=>https://ww.nairaland.com/2403844/drug-baron-held-producing-drugs

=>https://www.arise.tv/hong-kong-france-oman-bound-traffickers-arrested-at-abuja-lagos-airports-with-illicit-drugs/

These stories were widely published in the mass media and can be verified by a simple web search. The NDLEA even stated in disturbing reports less than 10 years ago that because of the surveillance and heat turned on these notorious drug traffickers with over 95 percent being largely of Ibo origin from Eastern Nigeria at the boarding gate areas [during passenger outward clearance at MMIA (international airport in Lagos) and the Abuja International Airport] through the use of full body scanners, these drug criminals are NOW targeting students of various tertiary institutions in Owerri in Imo State and other states as end users during parties or within the school premises. I wasn't surprised when years later, I read that many youths were taking methamphetamine and other narcotic drugs in Imo and Anambra, etc. Hence the resort to the public flogging of these young and violent boys who use drugs as seen online.

So, it's very clear these criminally-minded young people from the South East are fuelling the drug problem in Lagos and the South West, (including the South East) through the illegal production of methamphetamine in illegal underground laboratories located within their houses in residential estate areas. These illegal meth hard drugs labs were set up by South American drug cartels for the Ibo drug cartels. Fortunately, some of those South Americans were arrested at various times in Lagos, Anambra, and Asaba by the NDLEA and other law enforcement agencies.

So, the problem is bigger than you have tried to paint it (or minimize it) by incorrectly claiming it is a South West thing because the criminal gangs of largely Ibo origin are still involved in the drug distribution problem in the South West (right up to the South East, Rivers, and the FCT based on NDLEA reports).

The death penalty for drug trafficking as practiced in Singapore and Malaysia, I believe would greatly minimize the activities of these greedy, highly irresponsible and stubborn drug barons and their drug mules before they completely destroy the moral and social fabric of the societies they operate from.

Thank you Jukuns.

However, I don’t think the Yorubas should take offense with what the Northerners chose to do with their farm produce. I am also happy that you guys have stopped bringing food down south. Please keep the tempo.

Yorubas don’t need any retaliation of any sort, that’s a lazy way of thinking. No need of blockading any petrol tankers or etc from getting to the North, that’s a lazy approach.

Sensible thinking Yorubas should now start investing in farming. It’s not necessarily we all waste time with conventional farming, there are other farming methods that can be employed with bigger yield and more control mechanism that can aid the supply of both foods and proteins.

Most of the basic source of food is grown in the SW. we have cassava, poultry, fishes, yams, and etc that can feed the population for the time being until we can match the tomatoes, beans, and other grains from the North side.

Even if it gets worse, we can import all these stuffs and I’m sure there will be little the customs controlled by the FG can do at the Western borders. Trust me when civil disobedience happens, the FG will be helpless, but that is the last resort honestly.

My brother, thank you for your concern and contribution, that bag does not look like it's not washed, we know how a bag of cement that's not washed will look like. Talking about planting in sack bags, I don't think it's having the kind of dangerous picture you painted when it comes to using it to plant. I understand we don't have quality control measures here, but they do in America, and they permit the use of sack bags for planting. All the vertical farming and soilless farming being practised in advanced countries, they use plastics in planting, plant roots extract the needed nutrients from the nutrient solution contained in a plastic, this one appears to be more dangerous to me than sack farming, yet it is certified safe. In sack farming, there is soil medium around the plant, the sack is not even touching the plant. At times when you are tilling the soil, you'll come across many buried nylons, polythene bags, plastics and so on, yet we plant in the ground and eat the crops that come out of it, Sack farming was approved by FAO itself, you can check it out.

If he plants on the ground, the land will be tilled, and the number of stands that little space will contain will not be worth the energy and time put into this. Sack farming has its advantages.
- No competition among plants for soil nutrients, water, light etc. Each plant has its own space to thrive.
- It is easier to control weed and carry out other management practices such as mulching, manure or fertilizer application and so on in sack farming than planting on bare ground
- There's no limitation to farming with this method, as it is possible to farm even in urban centers, on concrete floor space and so on. You can't till the concrete floor of your compound to plant yam, but with sack farming, you are good to go.
- With sack farming within your neighbourhood, there's no fear of attack either by herdsmen or bandits, at this time that everyone is scared to go out into the bush to farm, this is your best bet.

It is not too late. As a matter of fact, they plant yam twice in a year. One around January/February. These are the ones harvested around August/September. The second ones are planted around April/May, these ones are harvested around December/January. But the ones planted in January/February will never sprout for lack of rain until around April when rain begins. The benefit is that it would have been ready to sprout upon getting any little rain. Though, this I planted at home is getting water once in a week, unlike the ones planted in farm, that is why you can see it sprouting now with leaves. The ones in farm will just start sprouting without leaves around this period.
My source of manure is sound from refuse dump+ my rabbit faeces.

No it's not fair. Normally seed yams are heaped in 100's that is 1hand= 100 pieces of small but whole yam seeds set aside for planting. At this period that is December to January it is usually cheaper to get but from February you start getting ridiculous price.

At this period whole sett seed yams should go for between 20 to 25k per hand while cut pieces go for 15 to 20k per hand. At this period whole sett seed yams are common and whether e carry multiple tubers or not. It is usually the job of the seller to separate multiple tubers

I stand by the fact that he was reaped off
Impressive.

Sir even at 350 per 1 is costly for yam seeds. The person you bought your seeds from reaped you off. Please next time 150 or worst case 180 per seed yam is ok nothing more nothing less.

Secondly grow your own yam seeds yourself using mini sett technology. Use YouTube as your guide. You see alot of helpful videos there to guide you through so that no one reaps you off again.

Next, I dried them for two days, opened holes in the soil and put in each one. Then I watered. That's all.

Hello Nairalanders,
This thread is to encourage members in the Agricultural sector to brainstorm and come up with alternatives to commercial feed. As we know up to 70% of the cost of running a successful poultry or fish farming operations come from feeding. We at freshdews farms ltd have evolved a number of approaches to achieving this objective.

We will be bringing to you from time to time our proven methods.

This edition will dwell on Duckweed/Azolla

We have successfully used Duckweed and Azolla to significantly reduce the cost of feeding our catfish. See pictures below. In due time we will update you on our effort in Broiler as well. Meanwhile you can source Duckweed/Azolla from us and we will guide you on how to grow them.

For 4 years now, I don't need to buy tomatoes and peppers for 8-9 months. Some weeks I can get a basket of tomatoes and can't finish them all so I gift them to people.

To preserve without a fridge, I also grind, then fry them. Put in airtight jars and cover with oil.

Not a waste of time, and I started in a small box, like OP
Saves me a ton of money for 8 months.

Vanilla is second to Saffron in terms of value on the international market. It required patience and investment, something Nigerians are not good at.
