Pounded yam is one of the most loved fufu meals in Nigeria, it can be paired with any kind of soup especially vegetable and egusi soup.

I made this soft and pliable pounded yam with fresh yam today. In this method, you don’t need to cook or pound the yam. I found out it is very easy to make this and even if you don’t have a mortar at home, you can still enjoy your pounded yam swallow. You should also watch the video above on how to prepare this yam poundo practically.

You Need:

Pure White yam for this yam swallow.

Steps on How to Make Pounded Yam with Raw Yam

1. Cut yam into rings and peel off the brown skin, cut the yam into smaller sizes and rinse with water to get rid of sand.
2. Bring the yam into a blender and add a little water to help the blender spin appropriately.
3. Pulse the blender for few minutes or until the yam is completely blended and appears smooth and almost runny.
4. Bring the blended yam into a stainless steel pot and place it on medium heat to get heated.
5. Use a wooden spatula to stir the yam paste for 1 minute, you will begin to notice the yam starting to come together.
6. Keep stirring until the yam starts to cook, when this has come together, reduce the heat and scrape the sides and bring the paste to the
middle. Sprinkle a little water and steam cook this on low flame for 5 minutes and stir intermittently.
7. Once the yam has cooked, it will look soft and pliable; take it off it and scoop into nylon bags to stay warm until you are ready to serve.
8. Pounded yam is ready, you can serve with egusi soup or any soup of your choice.

Food › Re: What You Probably Didn't Know About Powdered Milk by Konquest: 11:57pm On Jan 18, 2024
dairyguru:
Powdered Milk is a manufactured dairy product made by evaporating milk to dryness. One purpose of drying milk is to preserve it; milk powder has a far longer shelf life than liquid milk and does not need to be refrigerated, due to its low moisture content. Another purpose is to reduce its bulk for economy of transportation.

Have you ever wondered why some milk powder brands cost more than others? I’m sure you have. It is also likely that you have come up with possible reasons, from “Nigerian made” versus “imported” to “the cheaper one ‘contains’ less, and left it at that.

Of course, there’s a lot to be said for quality. There are brands that arguably have earned the right to demand more money because they have put in above average levels of quality control and nutritional value. Most people who buy these brands do so without complaining because they know what they’re paying for and they get their money’s worth.

However, the one MAJOR difference between milk powder brands that I never considered before last weekend, is that not all “powdered milk” is the same- and it doesn’t have to do with the company. The different types of powdered milk are explained below:

1. Full Cream Milk
The full cream milk, also known as whole milk is the milk in the form we get them from animals. It contains no added fat from non-dairy cow sources. Also, the dairy fat content is not removed. Full cream milk powder is creamier due to the higher 'dairy fat' content, it also tastes better, is more nutritious, and generally costs more.

2. Filled Milk
Filled milk also called fat filled milk is any milk that has been reconstituted with fats, usually vegetable oils, from sources other than dairy cows.Filled milk powder is not as creamy, not as nutritious, and it’s generally cheaper.

3. Skimmed Milk
Skimmed milk is milk from which the dairy fat (or cream) has been removed. it can provide the the nutrition contained in the full cream milk but without added fats and calories (reduces the risks of cardiovascular problems).

So next time you’re at the store, know why you’re spending more or less. Are you consciously paying for the actual product you’re getting, or are you just influenced by packaging and advertising?

The list is not exhaustive but these are the major ones we see in the market. feel free to add more

Inspirer1:
You're right.

However, don't you think since people can't access the foreign currency at the cbn rate to make payment or other forms of transactions except they purchase via parallel market, such people will definitely want to sell or remit through those apps that will give them parallel market rate too when converting to naira.

E.g
If I need 1000 dollars to purchase some of my goods, and I got it via black market rate of 1200 naira per dollar (making 1.2 million naira needed), if I make profit of 100 dollar on my goods, would you prefer I remit my profit and capital (1100 dollars) through the bank? That will be 1,078,000 naira (at say 980 naira official rate) which is not up to the amount I used in buying the 1000 dollars capital I used to purchase my goods.

The best thing is for government, through relevant authorities to establish a platform through which genuine payments can be done at official rate, this will help a lot.

Can you imagine that as official as payment of uk visa and ihs fees are, there is no official platform to pay using cbn rate unless you pay by buying from black market? Just imagine the volume of black market transactions during recent japa periods in the past 2 or 3 years.

You open a dorm account in the bank, but you have to go and buy dollar/pounds from Aboki outside the bank to fund the official dorm account.
Ordinary to pay for courses worth 5, 10, 20 dollars on educational platforms, one will have to buy from Aboki.

Let government do their findings, what and what do people need any of the foreign currency for, include it on the tradesystem portal where we have the form A and other forms. Make it impossible to pay for anything except through that tradesystem portal.
Nicely put.

"We have spoken to loads of Nigerians almost everywhere, in the US, UK, etc. They told us how they send remittance. They use Apps, and we have tried some of those Apps, they use parallel market rates. So, you take $1,000 in New York, and tap on your phone that you are sending $1,000 to someone, a Fintech, they pay the Naira equivalent in Nigeria without bringing the dollars, unless of course if the source of the money is illicit.”

If the forex doesn't land in Nigeria then it's wrong of World Bank to classify such funds as diaspora remittances. To qualify as diaspora remittances then the fund must leave the foreign country and land in our own financial system. What predominates does not quantify as remittance because the foreign currencies remain in the overseas account of the operators of those apps who mostly open and operate their bank accounts from illicit funds havens like the British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Ireland, Mauritius etc. So while you send $1000 from US, you get paid in naira here but your $1000 lands in a bank account in British Virgin Islands! That's not a diaspora remittance in Nigeria!

Those app platforms are the real wall blocking the remaining 90% of the total diaspora funds from getting into our banking system. If our financial regulatory control laws don't reach those fintechs, our tax laws should. FG must go after them and their collaborators here in Nigeria.

May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!

As Iran gets bolder and all it’s mercenaries satellite arm aka the houthis and hamas and hezbollah succeed in overwhelming Israel and the American facilities in that region and end up turning the Red Sea to desolate ground thereby causing economic austerity in America and the west and the the west will have no choice but to physically step into the war with all their European Allies which would then trigger the Iran Allies china and Russia to start smelling blood and they would jump into the fray as china sees the opportunity to take Taiwan and North Korea sees the opportunity to kick out the USA from South Korea and Russia sees the opportunity to kick out the encroaching west into Finland and Ukraine and other neighboring countries. It’s like all at once these countries will smell blood and would all start swinging at once in February. When it is all said and done the west will be disintegrated into dust and Islamic militants from the Stan countries and Middle East would take over Europe and turn it to an Islamic territory. There would be mass japada of peoples back to their original countries. This February 2024 is about to be crazyyyyyyyyyy. The end of an era. A new world order. The end of western hegemony and the new power structure would be BRICS. Nigeria would have no choice but to eventually join BRICS
@Sukkot, indeed.

The permutations look realistic though. The Arabs and Berbers once invaded the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and parts of Portugal) via North Africa and forcibly occupied that area for over 700 years till 1492 when the combined Spanish and Portuguese forces kicked them out from Spain (then known as Al-Andalus to the Muslim Arabs). The Ottoman Empire forces also invaded Europe from the Turkish area centuries back with the areas now known as Hungary, the former Yugoslavia (now Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina, etc) and some other countries fully occupied by the Turks. This is how Islam got to be practiced in some of those parts of Europe as well.

If the technologically and militarily advanced Iran is able to do some military damage in that Middle East/Asian region, it could trigger a chain of unintended consequences and give the Russians, North Korea and China the leeway to operate militarily. How many areas can the U.S. police globally at the same time without getting overstretched militarily and economically? Just late last year, the U.S. was on the verge of defaulting on loans payments but President Biden and his economic team (led by the Nigerian-American, Wale Adeyemo and others) were able to rally the Republicans to prevent what would have been an economic catastrophe of global proportions. This planet is NOT structured to have eternal peace because of human greed... Some people just covet or want to grab from others. Only inner peace will gain ascendancy.

Time will tell.

Salewa97:
There was a heated gunfire exchange, on Thursday, as the police rescued Segun Akinyemi, an Abuja resident, who was kidnapped just as he was driving out of his house.

The kidnappers were taking Akinyemi from Abuja to Kano State when the police swooped on them, according to Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna, ASP Mansir Hassan.

He said on January 18, 2024, operatives attached to Kawo Divisional Headquarters, Kaduna, received a distress call of a kidnapping incident from Abuja.

He said they were alerted that the culprits and their victim were transiting through Kaduna.

“The Operatives, at about 0010 hours, blocked a grey Toyota Hilux van with registration number Abuja RBC 90 DC, carrying four passengers, the driver inclusive, suspected to be the vehicle conveying the kidnappers and their victim.”

“On sensing danger and in an effort to escape, one of the kidnappers fired at the Policemen, and they responded accordingly. In the resulting gun duel, the victim, a certain Segun Akinyemi of block 10, flat 2 FCDA quarters Area 3 Garki, Abuja, was rescued, and one of the kidnappers, a 28-year-old Chinaza Philip of Life Camp Abuja, was arrested,” he said.

The police said the three other suspects who escaped are being trailed, adding that the vehicle belonging to the victim, two Retay G17 model pistols, one Beretta pistol, ten 9mm P.A.K ammunitions, and five 9mm special ammunitions were recovered from the kidnappers.

He said preliminary inquiries revealed that the victim was abducted on January 17, 2024, by the kidnappers just when he was leaving his home situated at the aforementioned address.

He said the three escaped suspects were; Chidibere Nwodibo of Life Camp, Abuja, one Auwal surname unknown, and the gang leader whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

The kidnappers were transporting their victim to Kano before they were intercepted by the Police.

The Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, CP A.D Ali, while commending the Operatives for the brave feat, still tasked them to continuously go after criminal elements in the State.

He called on the members of the public to avail themselves of security agencies’ hotlines for any distress call requiring a prompt response.

All these can be done in sacks or using soiless farming technologies. With that, he can feed himself without buying these from the farmer's market and also make more money selling the excess.
