I was surprised when I saw the photo. Those are mkponani/mkponana…the black stuffs are gunpowder….not sure about the rest of the bags.

Mkponani are the local cannons used in funerals and festivities in the south east. They are not bombs….in the hands of a very talented and mischievous person, it could be modified and adapted to achieve sinister motives. The entire story points towards how ruthless the security forces have been. And why they must confront them. This commander further explained that they are not criminals and that the members who soil their hands in criminality are usually felled. In other words ofo na ogu ga eji aga. He assured me that the went through the contents of our car and saw the food items, some money etc, and asked us to cross check that everything was intact. We did as instructed and he also had a video interview with me to showcase the event I just narrated. This may be viral on the ESN network. My commander then assured us that the road was free and asked God to bless us and have a safe trip. As I watched this young man walk off talking on his phone, I had several emotions. I pray that God will protect him while a peaceful resolution be found to the escalating violence in Igbo land. I put this out sooner because of the submissions from the Imo state commissioner of justice whose house and Dad's house were burnt down by the Umuoma.
