Religion / Heartbreaking: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Removed As Trustee Of Church’s UK Branch by kosovo(m): 12:02am On Oct 29, 2014
Anita Oyakhilome has taken over leadership position of a seven-man Board of Trustees of UK branch of Christ Embassy, which is valued at N8.2 billion.

The marital crises between Anita and the tele-evangelist, Chris Oyakhilome has taken a new dimension. In time past, she headed the UK branch while her husband presided over the Board of Trustees of the charity. The Woman of God who accused the famous pastor of "unreasonable behaviour" has now removed her husband from occupying such positions.

The two partners are allegedly in an intense power struggle for the UK branch. Some of the previously made hints by Chris Oyakhilome already indicated of such development, as he reportedly accused Anita of her intention to overpower the authorities of the elders she met in the church.

A recent document filled by the UK's church branch to the Charity Commission of England and Wales, distinctively shows the omission of Pastor Chris name in the Board of Trustee, he as however, been a prominent trustee since it was established in 1996.

No reason was given for the pastor's removal, which violates the church's standard practice, but the commission spokesperson Sarah Hitchings said that the commission is not supposed to know why trustees are being replaced or removed.

Christ Embassy International is yet to comment on the recent development but as it stands, “He (Mr. Oyakhilome) has been effectively sidelined. The law in the U.K. does not recognise him as an interested party in that branch of the church anymore.”
Politics / I Refused To Share Rivers State Money With The First Lady - Gov Amaechi by kosovo(m): 3:42pm On Oct 25, 2014
The duel between Governor Amaechi and Dame Patience Jonathan is one that isn't ending anytime soon.

The controversial Governor of Rivers state recently dropped another bombshell when he accused Mrs Jonathan of causing a war between him, because he simply refused to share Rivers state money with her.

The governor made the remark yesterday, October 24th, during the gradation ceremony of the Pioneer grandaunts of Ignatus Ajuru University of Education.

"Remember, when I became governor, I fought militancy. Right there where you built a new house used to be a hole where they pass into the river nd escape. The security report reached me and I came here and chased the militants away. I asked them to fence the school premises and block the hole. I have to protect you because it is my responsibility. Some of the militants went to Lagos, Ivory Coast, Ghana etc. Today, they are back because the wife of the President bought them back to protest against me," said Governor Amaechi.

"I refused to give them money in Abuja because if I do that, I won't be able to carry out any developmental projects or finish the road from Rumuolumeni to Rumuepirikom. The quarel between me and the wife of the President is because she said I should bring your money, Rivers people’s money and share with her" Governor Amaechi said.

The governor also took time to ridicule President Jonathan's administration, saying his re-election would completely disintegrate Rivers state's economy.

Politics / UK Telegraph Eulogize Governor Fashola by kosovo(m): 9:04am On Oct 25, 2014
Few days after the World Health Organization declared Nigeria an “Ebola Free” nation, UK Telegraph has taken time to heap praise on Governor Fashola, whose approach to governance continue to delude his counterparts.

fashola

He famously claims to be “just doing his job”. But in a land where politicians are known for doing anything but, that alone has been enough to make Babatunde Fashola, boss of the vast Nigerian city of Lagos, a very popular man.

Confounding the image of Nigerian leaders as corrupt and incompetent, the 51-year-old governor has won near-celebrity status for transforming west Africa’s biggest city, cleaing up its crime-ridden slums and declaring war on corrupt police and civil servants.

Next month, he will come to London to meet business leaders and Mayor Boris Johnson’s officials, wooing investors with talk of how he has spent the last seven years building new transport hubs and gleaming business parks.

Yet arguably his biggest achievement in office took place just last week, and was done without a bulldozer in sight. That was when his country was officially declared free of Ebola, which first spread to Nigeria three months ago when Patrick Sawyer, an infected Liberian diplomat, flew into Lagos airport.

Health officials had long feared that the outbreak, which has already claimed nearly 5,000 lives elsewhere in west Africa, would reach catastrophic proportions were it to spread through Lagos. One of the largest cities in the world, it is home to an estimated 17 million people, many of them living in sprawling shanty towns that would have become vast reservoirs for infection. To make matters worse, when the outbreak first happened, medics were on strike.

Instead, Mr Fashola turned a looming disaster into a public health and PR triumph. Breaking off from a trip overseas, he took personal charge of the operation to track down and quarantine nearly 1,000 people feared to have been infected since Mr Sawyer’s arrival.

Last week, what would have been a formidably complex operation in any country came to a successful end, when the World Health Organisation announced that since Nigeria had had no new cases for six weeks, it was now officially rid of the virus.

“This is a spectacular success story,” said Rui Gama Vaz, a WHO spokesman, who prompted an applause when he broke the news at a press conference in Nigeria on Tuesday. “It shows that Ebola can be contained.

The WHO announcement was a rare glimmer of hope in the fight against Ebola, and even rarer vote of confidence in a branch of the Nigerian government, which was heavily criticised over its response to the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls by the Boko Haram insurgent group in April. As a columninst in Nigeria’s Leadership newspaper put it last week: “For once, we did not underachieve.”

For Mr Fashola’s many supporters, it is also yet more proof that the 51-year-old ex-lawyer is a future president in the making, a much-needed technocrat in a country dominated far too long by ageing “Big Men” and ex-generals.

“He is the best governor we have ever had,” said Odun Babalola, a Lagos-based pension fund portfolio manager. “He’s made a lot of progress in schools, railways, and infrastructure, and unlike a lot of politicians, who are corrupt, he’s a good administrator.”

True, the successful tackling of the Ebola outbreak was not Mr Fashola’s doing alone. For a start, the doctor’s strike that was under way when Mr Sawyer collapsed at Lagos airport turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Rather than being taken to one of Lagos’s vast public hospitals, where he might have languished for hours and infected numerous fellow patients and staff, he was instead admitted to a private clinic. There he was seen by a sharp-eyed consultant, Stella Adadevoh, who spotted that his symptoms were not malaria as had been first thought.

She then alerted the Nigerian health ministry, and along with other doctors physically restrained Sawyer when he became aggressive and tried to leave the hospital to fly to another Nigerian city. Her quick thinking help stop the virus being spread more widely, but also cost her her life: she caught Ebola herself while treating Mr Sawyer, and has now been recommended for a national award.

But even by the time Mr Sawyer had been isolated, the virus was already on the loose. Knowing that he had passed through one of the busiest airports in west Africa, health officials had to try to track down every single person who had potentially been infected by him, including the other passengers on his flight. The list started at 281 people and grew to nearly 1,000. as eight others whom he turned out to have passed the virus to subsequently died.

That was where Mr Fashola stepped in. He broke off from a pilgrimage to Mecca, flew home and then helped set up an Ebola Emergency Operations Centre, which spearheaded the mammoth task of monitoring all those potentially infected. A team of 2,000 officials were trained for the task, who ended up knocking on 26,000 doors. At one point the governor was being briefed up to ten times a day by disease control experts. He made a point of visiting the country’s Ebola treatment centre, a way of communicating to the Nigerian public that they should not panic needlessly.

“Command and control is very important in fighting disease outbreaks, and he provided effective leadership,” said Dr Ike Anya, a London-based Nigerian public health expert. “He also said exactly the right things, urging for the need to keep calm. Regardless of whether you support his politics, he has been very effective as a governor and I would be happy to see him stand for leadership.”

Born into a prominent Muslim family but married to a Christian, Mr Fashola trained as a lawyer and went into politics after being appointed chief of staff by the previous Lagos governor, Asiwaju Tinubu, a powerful politician often described as Mr Fashola’s “Godfather”. But while he has long enjoyed the backing of a political “Big Man”, is his role as a rare defender of Nigeria’s “Little Men” that has won him most support.

Once, while driving through Lagos in his convoy, he famously stopped an army colonel who was driving illegally in one of the governor’s newly-built bus lanes, berating him in front of television cameras.

“The bus is for those who cannot afford to buy cars,” he said. “I want a zero tolerance of lawlesness, and those who don’t want to comply can leave our state.”

It was one of the first times Nigerians had ever seen a civil servant confronting a member of the security forces, whose fondness for committing crime rather than fighting it has long contributed to Lagos’s legendary reputation for lawlessness.

Armed robberies – sometimes by moonlighting police – used to be so common that few people ventured out after dark. Foreign businessmen would routinely travel with armed escorts, and the few willing to live there would stay mainly in a heavily-guarded diplomatic area called Victoria Island, a rough equivalent to Baghdad’s Green Zone. Add to that the suffocating smog, widespread squalor and regular three-hour traffic jams, and it was no suprise that the city had a reputation as one of the worst places in the world to live.

Today, much of the problems remain. But members of the vast Nigerian diaspora say they now notice big changes whenever they go back. “When you return you see an absolute difference – things have improved 100 per cent,” said Nels Abbey, a London-based Nigerian journalist and businessman. “Traffic is not what it used to be, bus lanes have been introduced, and it feels a lot safer. Fashola has been like a Tory mayor for Lagos – he is trying to make it attractive to the well-off.”

Styling himself as Lagos’s answer to Boris Johnson has not endeared him to everyone. As well as laying plans for a vast offshore business park intended as an “African Dubai”, he has accelerated programs to clear the ever-expanding shanty towns, ordering their occupants to return to their homes in Nigeria’s poorest east and north. That has led to criticism from human rights groups, although others say it is hard to see how Lagos will ever improve otherwise. “Do I endorse it?” said Mr Nels. “I am afraid it is a bit of a necessary evil.”

Another big achievement has been increasing tax revenues, vital in a city where the GDP of $43 billion makes it the fifth-biggest economy in sub-Saharan Africa. Mr Fashola has tried to sweeten the pill by putting up signs on all new infrasructure projects, saying “paid for by your taxes”. It is a rare acknowledgement of gratitude in a country where a guaranteed stream of state oil wealth has historically allowed rulers to remain aloof from the ruled.

However, despite being relected with 80 per cent of the vote in 2011, the main hailed as Nigeria’s brightest political hope in years is far from guaranteed a life in office. Having served two terms in office already, he is not allowed to run as Lagos governor again. And as a member of a minority tribe and the country’s opposition All Progressives Congress, he currently lacks the political backing to go head to head against Goodluck Jonathan in next year’s elections.

In the meantime, fresh from ridding Lagos of Ebola, he is focusing on an arguably even tougher challenge, launching a new initiative to stop motorists stuck in traffic jams from blasting their horns all day. As he put it: “If we can overcome Ebola, then we can overcome noise pollution.”

Religion / Baby Born In Ibadan Clutching Holy Qur’an In A Church by kosovo(m): 9:36am On Oct 24, 2014
Welcome to Africa where the unimaginable become a reality, a baby boy has been born in Oyo state clutching a pocket-size Qur’an (featured image) and reported by the Nigerian Tribune.

This is not the first time news like this has happened, but this has its own peculiarity because it’s happened right in Ibadan, the baby was given birth in a “church.” Yes, you read that.

An Islamic scholar and renowned preacher, Amoo told the publication that the midwife, who delivered Jelilah of the baby found an object in the baby’s hand. She threw it away thinking it was one of those drugs, the mother applied, in an attempt to terminate the baby.

The baby however, became restless, only for them to later find out the object was a pocket size Qur’an which contained all the 114 chapters in the holy book.

Parent of the baby appears to be an atheist, but the later development is a sign to return to Allah, he said.

Health / Microsoft Co-founder Paul Allen Giving Out $100m To Tackle Ebola by kosovo(m): 8:44am On Oct 24, 2014
Ebola Virus Disease isn’t new; it’s been with mankind for over three decades with several outbreaks. However, the 2014 outbreak has been the most dreadful and catastrophic, claiming close to 3,000 lives in Africa.

Worse hit countries are Sierra Leone and Liberia. The first reported case was in March 2014, since then the virus has been spreading like wild-fire, crossing the borders into Nigeria, and for the first time gaining access to United States.

Nigeria may have won the war against the “evil” Ebola virus, but government at all levels have kept the awareness on top priority to prevent another outbreak.

There is no official drug or vaccine against Ebola, but since it entrance into the United States, mega research institutes and the WHO have intensified effort to eliminating the virus once and for all.

To this effect and to ensure progress is made in the fight against Ebola, that’s reducing the population of women and children in Africa, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, 61, who is worth about $17billion, has revealed he would donate $100 million to the fight against Ebola. This donation makes him the largest individual donor in the Ebola crisis so far.

Education / Meet The Biology Teacher Who Donated His Skeleton For Anatomy by kosovo(m): 8:23am On Oct 24, 2014
The skeleton belongs to a former headteacher of a Romanian school, Alexandru Grigore Popescu, he was a head teacher in the school for 10 years and taught biology for 50 years. But there was challenge, his students could only learn about the skeleton with books and images. So he decided to give out his skeleton to his students upon his death.

He later died, his will expressly gave scientist the right to extract his skeleton from his body and place the skeleton in his class for learning purposes.

Health and safety officials later confiscated the skeleton for cross-examination; it was socially checked to ensure it was safe for use. Upon positive results, it was put into a glass case and returned to the class room.

History teacher Sorin Stanciu said: “He was made head teacher ten years after starting working there and was famous for the fact that he never missed a class. His skeleton was made into a display in the 1960s after his death and he hasn’t missed a class since then either.”

Sorin says Alexandru of blessed memory was a very dedicated and committed man, for a man who never missed a class, you can only imagine the burning desire he had for teaching his students.

Although it may seem grisly kids at the school said they found it really helpful during classes to have the skeleton. One of the pupils said: “He donated his body so that we could study biology better. Instead of reading off a book, we look at the skeleton and understand better.”.

Politics / Buhari Adviced To Drop His Presidential Ambition by kosovo(m): 11:12pm On Oct 23, 2014
Former Nigerian military dictator Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to forget about contesting the forth coming presidential election.

You will recall that the president has finally declared his intention to seek a re-run under the platform of the PDP, and was met with a loud cheer at the villa. However, the same cannot be said of Buhari, there have been several calls for him to take a break, with the latest being from a political pressure group, Turaki Vanguard.

The group says Buhari’s presence in the forth coming election would not have any significant impact, they believe it wouldn’t enhance the fortune of the APC.

Politics / Ceasefire: Boko Haram Bombard Bauchi Bus Station, Scores Dead by kosovo(m): 9:28am On Oct 23, 2014
There have been bombardments of a popular bus station in Bauchi, suspected to be carried out by the Islamic terror group Boko Haram. Death toll has risen to five and scores injured.

The recent attack makes mockery of the alleged ceasefire agreement between the federal government and members of the terror sect, Boko Haram.

A resident of the town, who gave his name as Musa Babale, said: “We had a huge blast at exactly 9:45 pm (2045 GMT). We realised it had come from the bus station. The whole place was a mess,” he said.

However, several calls made to the spokesman of the police and military for comments were not answered but Mauzu Ibrahim, another resident of the attacked area near the Kano road revealed that security operatives have cordoned off the scene.

“We found the place cordoned off by soldiers and police. From where I stood I saw bodies being put in a van,” Ibrahim said.

Other witnesses also reported seeing casualties but it was not immediately possible to estimate the number and emergency workers were not available to comment on the incident.

However, the cause of the blast remains unknown as at press time though the state has remained one of the worse hit areas by the blood thirsty terrorists group, Boko Haram.

http://www.plug.ng/aisha-falodes-writes-open-letter-to-pres-jonathan/
The letter is heart-breaking, please read:

It is with a heavy heart that I read about the death of the son of Chief Alameiyeseigha on the streets of Dubai; an incident that immediately jolted me back in time thanks to the bizarre similarities to that of my son as regards “cause of death”. My son was said by the Dubai authorities to have jumped down from a balcony, dismissing it as “suicide”, same with Chief Alameiyeseigha’s son.

I am saddened that this has happened despite my nationwide campaign to stop this happening AGAIN by putting all relevant government agencies on notice, in vain. For record emphasis, my son was thrown from the balcony of a 17th floor apartment in Manchester Tower in Dubai.

A Saudi boy resident in Dubai confessed to the murder; he had my son’s blood on his t-shirt, he had my son’s blood on his knuckles and boasted about serving time for 25 years in prison if it comes to the worst. His murderer has a name-Faisal Aldakmary Al-Nasser. There were witnesses to this murder, they have written statements verbally and orally corroborating what the murderer said.

I have put all this together to make this easy for the Nigerian government to help me get justice for my son in Dubai. I warned the Nigerian government that Nigerian youths were being killed in Dubai on a daily basis as confirmed by our embassy in Dubai.

I also warned parents about the danger of Dubai. I also stated repeatedly, that if justice was not gotten for my son that another murder will happen. Indeed there have been many more after my son although not mentioned because they do not have a voice. But now, there is one so close to government that has been struck. I did not have to be a soothsayer to know this. Many more will happen until we get Justice for Toba Falode, and all those who have been murdered in cold blood in Dubai.

We cannot stand by and watch our youths lives being down played over and above “collaboration and partnership” with a country that hates us with so much passion, that they are cutting down the lives of our young ones in cold blood crudely and viciously and yet we seek “partnership and collaboration” in investment with this same country.

Our ambassador in the UAE, AmbassadorIbrahim Auwalu, must be called back to Nigeria to answer to every young soul that has been lost to Dubai unaccounted for due to his lack of responsibility in office. The Foreign Ministry also, must be asked questions on what they have done about Toba Falode’s case 8 months after.

It took Israel less than 48 hours to act on the loss of their 3 youths. 8 months after Toba Falode’s murder, we are still waiting on the Nigerian government to give us any kind of reaction on the loss of a young life-Toba Falode in Dubai. Even after submitting every evidence, our protest, police reports corroborating the fact that my son was murdered, we still have gotten no response at all from the Nigerian government. Take a queue from Israel.

And the Nigerian Government for once should start acting like a big country with so much might and power that it is in the continent and indeed in the world and go after Dubai for justice for every young soul and every Nigerian life that has been cut short in Dubai. We send our sympathy and condolences to DSP Alamieyeseigha. The family and friends of their son, we empathise with them because we have been through and are still going through it and it is nothing we wish for any parent which was our concern from the start.

This, is one death too many. May it not happen again.
Aisha Falode.

Science is at it again, this time they have come up with a new discovery and it all about intimacy.

Professor John Long and his team from Flinders University in Adelaide have published their findings in the scientific journal Nature, exposing the first creatures to have sexual intimacy in the word, and it’s the Armoured Scottish Fish.

The research says, the first intimacy started about 430 million years ago – armoured Scottish fish developed male and female Instruments and started having intercourse in freshwater lakes.

‘When you look at the shape of these structures they can’t possibly do anything in a missionary position,’ said Professor Long.

‘We’ve printed out 3D models of these fish and I can play mating games with them and the only way possible they can do it is sideways, square dance style, with their little arms entangled,’ he said.

Politics / FG to Stop Funding Universities by kosovo(m): 5:33pm On Apr 10, 2012
Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, called on the institutions to generate funds independently from investors, associates and alumni. Aunyim made this known while Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at a fundraising dinner organized by the University of Jos, .

This decision to pass the burden of financing to the universities is certain to lead to increases in tuition in federal universities, just as a similar decision to withdraw the subsidy on petrol last January led to the exponential price increases that fuelled that month’s mass rallies nationwide.

This ultimately would mean outrageous hike in Fees and exploitation, Government have always been insensitive, while our literacy ratio has fallen dramatically, this government still want to make things worse. Perhaps this is Transformation.

You will recall that just few weeks ago, it emerged that the nation’s Senators had bought new Toyota LandCruiser Sport Utility Vehicles at a cost of over N16million each. Each of them already enjoys a fleet of luxury official cars. This year, federal legislators will receive an estimated N71 billion in jumbo allowances and packages they have allocated to themselves.

How are the Mighty Fallen, the NCC is a exitiabilis exitialis exitosus and decayed organization manipulated by these telecom giants who have sucked dry the blood of impeccant Nigerians. nunc quidem, infact I could still hark back in the early 2000's when MTN said per minute call was practically, virtual and technically infectum reddere, not until Globalcom and the power of contendo forced MTN to eat their words, MTN/second billing was borne. Today, we are grimaced with an even more periculosus situation.

Nigeria is seen as a dumping ground, where lawmakers do not follow the laws and lawbreakers opprimo oppressi oppressum many who cant make or break the law but die inside the law. Nigeria failed 200 years ago, even before the male peius pessime, failed and fraudulent amalgamation of 1914.

So i was forced to make a comment on this induco indux inductum development.

Obviously Nairaland was 7 years some few days ago, using the default and discredited smf forum script, which perhaps had alot of bugs and gave constant laboro to the guys who manage and curo the site. Still, they were undetered and came up with this masterpiece. Honestly, the Supreme Military Commander of Nairaland took a step in the right direction, it has become more social and from my findings after reading all the posts, most people are only angered by the load time, forsit forsan forsitan because it is new. I expect the Load time to improve within the comming days.

I must say that I am dumbfounded by the very dumb and unintelligent posts I read here, but as I know the supreme military commander of Nairaland, he wont buldge for any reason.

Bravo!
