tolajohn12: Good Morning All, I have been denied US visa like 3 times now. Infact i have given up on it right now and maybe try other countries that i can go for my masters. I just want to share my transcript so that people can learn from my experience.
First intervew Abuja Nov 9 2021
Course: Management Information Systems ( conditional Admission so a bachelor's degree I-20 was issued because of one prerequisite management course that i needed to do).
School: UIS: COA: 35k
VO: Good Morning Me: Good Morning VO: Have you travelled out before? Me: No, this will be my first time VO: What is your highest level of qualification? Me: Bachelor of Technology in Computer Engineering VO: Why are you going for a second degree? Me: It is a conditional admission. i'm actually going for a master degree( I was jittery in this part because the question caught me unaware). I'm required to write a course before i can get full admission VO: Okay Okay VO: Are you married? Me: No, I'm single VO: who is going to be your sponsor? Me: My Father: VO: What does he do? Me: He is a businessman with investment in agriculture and real estate ( Again i was stuttering through this part) VO: Farming? Me: Yes VO: Do you have any relative in the US? Me: No VO: I'm sorry you are not qualified for visa , brought the Blue paper.
for the first timers. Make sure you prepare very very well and make sure you are always truthful in your DS 160. I actually have close relatives in the USA.I don't really communicate with them often. I listened to people advise and decided not to include them in my DS-160. It is better to just include it. Please avoid any conditional admission. I actually got admitted in 4 schools but UIS admission decision came very early. You must try as much as possible to nail your first interview
Second Interview:
December 1st Lagos: Surge Dates things
School: Bowie State University COA 23k
Course: Management Information System ( Unconditional Admission)
VO: Why are you going to the US? Me: I'm going to the US to pursue masters degree in Management information system at bowie state university Maryland. VO: How many schools did you apply to? Me: 3 schools ( I mentioned the schools) VO: How many gave you admission? Me: All the 3 VO: Who is your sponsor: Me: My Father. He is a businessman with Investment in agriculture and real estate. He has landed properties in Lagos, Ekiti, Port harcourt, Oyo and Ogun state. The VO is actually a nice woman, She approved visa for lot of students that day. I guess my first interview really messed me up. The moment the woman asked you to talk to her like a friend. Just be sure that she is ready to approve your visa but you must convince her. She wanted to approve a guy visa that day but the guy couldn't convince her about his sponsor. The guy said his mother does Ajo ( Cooperative Contribution)
3rd Interview
May 12 Abuja (In my mind i was like if this one no work. na to say bye bye to USA. I no fit kill myself because of the stressed that i passed through that day. I had to travel across four states before i get to lagos and fly to Abuja)
Nothing changed in terms of schools and course. I just defered my admissions. I applied to MTSU but got denied. I got promoted at work and also had a change of Job role.
Before i got interviewed, One woman got denied. The woman almost scattered embassy that day ooo. She was just shouting that they must tell her the reason she was denied and she won't leave until someone explained to her. She said she has travelled to US more than 25 times and all her kids are citizens. They called like 6 security personnels for the woman but she no gree at all. It was until one nice american woman came to talk to her. That was when she decided to leave. Anyway. It was the same Visa Officer that denied the woman that also interviewed me.
VO: Good Morning Me: Good Morning VO: Why are you going to the US? Me: I'm going to the US to pursue masters degree in Management information system at bowie state university Maryland. VO: Why did you choose the school? Me: I chose the school because it is affordable and because of my research plans which is based on restructuring the power industry in nigeria using information technology. I will be working with professor Azene zenebe whose research focus are based on information systems security, crime in electronic business solution and business intelligence and data mining. This will help me to achieve my aim of revamping the power industry in Nigeria. I'm currently working in the power industry and i know the problems we are facing ( VO cuts in) VO: You started working there one months ago? Me: No Sir. I actually got promoted and also had a change of Job role. I have been working there for 4 years I was formerly ....... now I'm .......... VO: Okay. Sorry about that. I didn't see that Me: So i continue with my explanation on why i chose the schools. I can't remember what i said but the VO was just nodding his head VO: Who is your sponsor? Me: My dad. He is a businessman with investment in agriculture and real estate. He started a feedmill factory about 15 years ago when he retired from Nigeria Customs Service. He has about 3 properties in Oyo State, He is living in one of the properties while the other two are being managed by me and twin brother. His properties in lagos is managed by my elder sister. He was typing when i was saying these. VO: He just brought out that dreaded blue paper and gave it to me. Infact USA consulate don dey make me hate anything blue. Blue used to be my favorite color but not anymore. The color don break my heart too much. I wasn't really heart broken compare to the first time because i sacrificed a lot of things that first time. I did everything possible to get the visa. I wrote GRE, Duolingo and also did wes. I applied to several schools but I believed my time has not come yet. So i will take a break from anything USA for now and focus on my career. Thanks everyone. God bless you this is a tough one , but to my knowledge when the first VO denied you and the second VO denied it was easier for the third vo to deny you( when the vo looks at you visa records and see the little side notes scribbled down by his or her previous colleagues) and maybe you fail to share something very convincing enough to the VO this time around i.e you ds160 not tallying with what you are saying , then maybe you gotta go with a diff strategy and approach, maybe next time highlight your positives if you have funding thats a good highlight of your case , all in all just figure out what your positive highlights are and put it forward and go with the flow. goodluck. (the more the denials, the harder it becomes to get approved. mayb book a consultation with "argo visa" and peharps they can help you figure why you were denied previously) dont give up |

Please did you have any gap year (from when. you finished high school till now that you are applying for a degree to continue your studies?) Thank you as you reply and congrats again. |

ocpaschal: Please I want to clarify on a few things; My Uncle wants to write an invitation letter to recommend me to visit him in USA thru the visitor visa. So I am composing a letter with samples I've seen on Google search. I want to add the right content on the purpose of my visit. So I need to ask the following;
- Is it advisable for my uncle to indicate on the invitation letter as a purpose of visit that I would be visiting my uncle in the USA to also have a look at a University facilities etc within the state in order to weigh my options on whether to apply from Nigeria for Graduate studies at the USA University when returning to Nigeria?
- My uncle is a medical doctor. Will it even make sense if he says that the purpose of my visit as a nephew is to see tourist sites? Or to spend a few weeks with him only to see how they are doing?
- I am also going to travel out for the first time in my life outside Nigeria if this works out. If the USA visa officer asks me why I lack a travel experience (my old expired passport is empty, and the new one unused) what should I say?
- Although I want to visit some University institutions, I am interested in studying Masters in Social Work by virtue of my volunteer experience and academic field in social science. Pls is social work in high demand at USA? How good is social work degree in terms of job prospects and career in the USA? boss man, if you dont have any travel exp if you are asked just say you havent had any reason to travel out of Nigeria before. |

Ebi1: Hi everyone. So my family and I just got our visas! I’m f1. Husband is F2 and child F2. I had a child in the U. S back in 2019. The lady who interviewed us was scary. Lol. African American. We wer praying for the white lady to interview us cus she was nice to others especially students… but yea we got the African American lady. She thrilled us! Lol first question- why University of Saint Thomas? I told her that’s where I got my master of liberal Arts degree from back in 2014 and the school does more than teaching, it focuses on morals and ethics and it’s a tight knit community cause it’s a small school that makes it easy to interact with lecturers … She then asked when last I visited the US… I said 2019. She said how long did I stay? I said 5 months. She said why did I stay for that long? I said cus I gave birth. She asked if I told the consulate officer that I was going to give birth? I said yes I was taken through secondary interrogation where I showed them my doctor’s invitation letter and receipt of hospital bill… I then had to back track and explained how I went for my sister’s graduation and during the visit I had to do a doctor’s routine checkup. Then the doctor told me he could help me through the pregnancy with ease as I had gestational diabetes that he wanted to control through diet…. So long story short, she said my visa was revoked when my husband applied for his visa while I was in the U. S then. I told her I wasn’t aware that it was revoked because I didn’t commit any offense. That The consular officer then thought I wasn’t going to come back and that I have no reason to overstay. Then she said ok. Do you know that it’s now illegal for foreigners to give birth in the U.S that hope I don’t plan on having kids during my program. My husband and I said no o that we have two for now and we are ok until after the program…. Then she asked Who will be sponsoring your program? I said my dad. Then she asked what he did. I told her… she then faced my husband and asked what he does… my husband said he has a restaurant… then I whispered to him to add Cotonou that our restaurant is in Cotonou… then he added it. Lol. She asked who will be running it when we travel… he said he has staffs that run the business. She said staff as in? He said he has staff and a brother that will be running it on his behalf. Then she typed and faced me again. What do I plan to do with the program… I said to add to my current business which is for African youths and that I plan to use my doctor of education program to create a training institute for young adults… plus she asked if I had any relatives in the US. I said yes two sisters. She asked if my two sisters are citizens. I said no they are non immigrants. She said what are they doing there. I said one is on H1B and the other is a student. oh I forgot to mention that she noticed I didn’t write my full name when asked for other names used… I thought I was meant to write any other name I’ve been called so I used my short name and maiden name instead of using my full name… anyways she was like she was going to correct it manually from her end…. So yea she gave us the Visa… we packed soooo many documents and she didn’t even care to look down at any… I even tried to show her some , she didn’t even look; she was just looking at the system… congratsssss. Safe flight. |

Maxidooo1990: Congratulations! Your case has nothing to do with denial. You have full funding, you are a lecturer with experience and what again. To my understanding, the visa approval and denial thing is a kind of presage. VO's already know ahead of time if you getting the visa or not. Probably, they read through your profile before even you standing before them for the interview. Once again congratulations! lol VOs dont make any judgement on your case without an interview first. so tell me how they know abt giving him the visa. So since you say the read through his profile, do you know how many ppl profiles they will memorize? or please explain how they make the judgement bfr the interview. lol cos it makes no sense |

Tell them why you couldn’t go to school since then too maybe if it was due to financial problems or family issues you mention that too. Just make sure not to tell them you’ve been doing nothing Tip: Dont ever mention financial problem to be the reason why you havent gone to school. |

Femotech123: Propose Transcript Third attempt Degree: Bachelor Course: Political science COA: $23699 Personal funding: : $2500 Scholarship: pending… School name: EIU
VO: why are going to USA ME: I’m going to USA for my bachelor degree in political science at EIU.
VO: why did you chose this course Me: I chose this course because is fundamental to understand my right and responsibility as a citizen to understand international politics and law. These course will introduce me to political concepts, political behavior, policy issue and structure of govt within my societies and among nations.
VO: How many school did you apply to Me: 3 which are ksu, EIU, university of Minnesota
VO: why did you chose this school Me: EIU is one of the cheapest school in the USA, according to us news and world Report in 2015 they are ranked at the No 1 highest public regional Uni in IL and No 5 in the Midwest USA. And also they give student good scholarship and a big university experience and opportunity collaboration between the students and professors is strongly encouraged.
VO: what has changed Me: I was a bit nervous in my last two interview and have also changed school and course ( please haven’t know what I can really say for that question but my two attempt was ksu with a course in social work and no funding) please just enlighten me on what to say here pls
VO: when did you finish your high school and what have you been up to Me: I finished my high school in 2014. After my high school I went to acquire a skill in computer repair between 7-Jan-2015 and 17-Jan-2017 the same year I went for a diploma course in local government and development studies at poly IB between feb-2017 and oct-27-2019 and I undergo for a compulsory industrial training/attachment base on the course at ABK south LG which i was later retained there to work till this moment. ( that is what I actually involved in the gaps is much I know almost 8yrs my age is 24 ooo)
VO: what will this course do for you Me: This course will equip me with an understanding of the political institution and laws that govern all business functions m, it will also sharpen me to understand organizational dynamics and women relation and prepare me take part in the political life in my community and the nation which is my ambition. VO: what will you do when you return/ plan Me: I intend to come back to Nigeria to continue my work at the LG where I work presently but in higher position I might be promoted to the state secretariat or to the federal secretariat. I also plan to start my political career by joining a party and get more involved in community activities at the local level to be more and well recognized between and beyond my jurisdiction.
VO: How did you hear about this school Me: when I concluded on having my bachelor degree I use educational website such as us news and google to search for cheapest school that offer political science I came across EIU.
VO: who is your sponsor and what does he do? Me: My Brother is sponsoring me and will be supported by my dad also . My brother is a politician he was the formal deputy chairman of XYZ between 2015 and 2019 and he is aspiring for xyz in 20xyz and he is also into real estate developer while my dad is a contractor in xyz company in Lagos. So to my knowledge, when the VO asks "why you chose this university" most people think its about stating facts about the school is the answer lol, that can be gotten from the internet , you gotta look for something that actually makes sense, for instance you said its "cheap enough for you", that right there is good enough. Stating google fact doesnt necessary give a personal reason why that uni. for instance you can even go ahead and say oh I choose this school cos its cheap and I also heard it snows in that area during the winter and im really excited to see the snow as I have never experienced it before (my statement is just to make it more personalized to you) you dnt necessary have to state facts about the school that u read on the website. just my opinion |

haylegbede1: Hello everyone,
I've gone through a good number of pages here and i find that in terms of processing speed in Lagos, it seems Festac and Alausa a little bit faster than ikoyi. Please correct me if im wrong.
I would like to renew my passport in the shortest time possible (max one month), from what i've read so far it seems DIY could take a little bit more than a more or less if lucky and in a way im willing to just try it and save cost on doing express but i am not sure whether to go to the Alausa or Festac center.
Can anyone please advise on this, especially if you just did a passport recently (whether DIY or not), I would really appreciate.
Thanks. For me Alausa was where I used and got mine exactly within the collection date I was given, might be luck but i think its faster sha |

Faskyyoung: HI GUYS! I’m having my visa interview coming up very soon and I need to get all sides of opinion on this transcript. Thank you very much!
I graduated from high school in 2018 and I’m looking to pursue a nursing program at Wayne county community college.
What has changed between your previous appointment and now? During my previous interview, I was nervous and discomposed due to the fact that it’s my first time being in any embassy for any interview. I am ready to convince my visa officer that I’m a credible US visa applicant with strong reasons to travel to the USA, strong ties to my home country, important reason to return back to Nigeria and strong financial capability to see me through my approved period of stay in the United States.
What do you do currently?/ What have you been doing since high school graduation? I graduated from high school in 2018. February 2019, I enrolled in a AS/A levels program which spanned for 18 months. I finished the program in August 2020. I wrote the exam May 2021 after COVID lockdown. I took Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics (AAA). During 2020 COVID lockdown and 2021 early post lockdown, I volunteered as a ground community and house to house COVID-19 sensitization worker in Oyo state. We travelled to various communities in rural and remote areas in the state and a few towns to sensitize the populace on what the virus is, it’s mode of transmission, prevention practices, suspected cases means of report and putting the mind of people at peace (not to panic). Late 2021 to 2022, I started researching extensively, making decisions and applying into colleges in the United States.
What are your plans in the United States? My ultimate plan in the United States of America is to attain my medical degree in the US and return home to harness acquired state of the art skills and knowledge in pediatric medicine in the children populace of Nigeria. It is for this reason I am pursing earning my first degree in Nursing at Wayne county community college district which is a compulsory requirement for any prospecting US medical school applicant i.e. any first degree earned outside of the US makes any applicant ineligible for admission into any US medical school.
Why an associate degree? Honestly, the only reason I have decided to go for an associate degree in a community college and then transfer to a 4-year university because of my worry on the possibility of me timely adapting/ adjusting to foreign student and social lifestyle. I have adjustment disorder. It’s a stress response syndrome that’s non-psychotic and short term. I had its first attack when my family relocated to Ibadan and I was to attend a new high school (beginning my senior secondary school education as a boarding student). It lasted for 3 months before full recovery with the help of therapy sessions with my therapist as the only treatment. So, it had been a worry for me until I got to know community colleges existed and that they offer better academic flexibility and smaller classroom to teacher ratio than universities which allow a good way for me to ease into the world of US higher education and catalyze my adaptation to US higher education student lifestyle and environment.
How many colleges did you apply to and why WCCCD? I applied into 3 colleges. Two in Michigan- Wayne county community college district and north central Michigan college and one in California- Taft college. I chose WCCCD because, unlike other colleges) is affiliated to university of Michigan and offers easy transfer of credit hours to university of California Los Angeles at the same time. Taft college is not affiliated with UofM and NCMC is not affiliated with UCLA. This is important because these two universities are my top selection for medical school destinations, so I would also love to complete my bsc in nursing in either. Also, WCCCD is the most popular for quality education in nursing among the three colleges. As a matter of fact, In Michigan, WCCCD is best known for its Nursing program. It is accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the positive review put up by the commission in support of the college is captivating and satisfactory and the course module corroborates this.
Why Nursing ? I have chosen nursing as my premed because unlike any natural science major, it prepares me for a career in medicine including the clinical area of medicine. This way I get to study for 4 years for a pathway to medicine and still be in connection with what I have passion for. Biology for an example as a natural science major, which is a main component of medicine, does not focus only on human biology. It ranges across plant biology, invertebrate animal biology and ecology and does not offer any clinical experience. Studying nursing as my major would make my experience in medical school easier.
Who is your sponsor? My mother will be officially sponsoring me. She has been a medical consultant for the Oyo state government for the past 30 years and she is also a major distributor of healthcare products to hospitals in Oyo state and Lagos state. She has an annual income of 45million. (*note: my total cost of studying in the us is $15,200 for the first year) My father has been a real estate investor since before I was born. He runs real estate across the country. To start with when they say dont give short answers it doesnt mean it has to be lenghty, this things you plan to say are too long for a 3mins interview and the V.O will not give you the chance to say all these except he hears something interesting then you can go on and on abt what you wanna do. My advise is summarize the point and try to be very concise and detailed(put your highlights in front of him or her) for instance if you have scholarship that could be a good highlight of your case. Oh and not to discourage you, Community colleges are a major redflag and be ready to explain why a community college and not a 4yr uni. all the best |

UmmZayd: Hmmm this is long for a 2/3mins interview but anyways. 1. You don't need a Nursing degree to attend a medical school because Nursing students do not get to do all Medical School prerequisites so for you to now come and say you are going for Nursing because you are planning on attending a Med school doesn't add. 2. There's biology premed concentration. I'm stating all these so that you will get your facts right. 3. You really need to check teacher to Students ratio of HBCUs institution before you make a stand on flexibility and diversity o. It's important 4. No comment on the disorder but you really need to get your facts right. I'm really hoping it's not a lamba anyways. 5. To save stress, CC is a red flag. That institution was specifically made for some benefits. And I'm guessing that part of med school has a solid reason with financial backup. 6. Applying to a university with Biology pre-med would have made a whole lot of sense
Best of luck exactly what i thought, thats too long for a 2mins interview and community college is always a red flag |
