With their poor orientation, I don't see them doing any better than the current ones. I was on the road the other day and their van came up behind my truck, the driver immediately turned on the siren which was very needless, maneuvered recklessly while putting incoming road users in danger. Expecting that I'd veer off for them to pass which I didn't, going past me they were all shouting "Ori e o pe o, o ti ya werey" and some other profanities. I just laughed and shook my head at the foolishness of some black men, just because they have barrel guns, a uniform and a mobility van they are already feeling like some "constituted authority". It won't be long before they start steering up ugly situations.

I'm truly in love with this guy. We are happy together, We understand each other perfectly. With him I'm myself, No pretence. Same with him. He's everything I want in a man, but the problem is that: he doesn't have money. He keeps trying, but things are not working. no job and he's from a family where everyone are on their own facing their challenges, no support.

He's 35yrs this yr and I'm 30 already. He wants to get married, but he can't afford it.

Lately, I buy almost everything for him, to support him.

Age is not on my side, yet the only man I love and that loves me can't afford to marry me. If we're married, it will be easy for me to share everything with him without my family members putting eyes.

My Aunt called me stu.pid that i should accept a financially stable man instead of being with a man who can not afford to take care of me.
I have little money I saved to support my wedding as well, but he have nothing.

Married people in the house please help.
I want to have direction plan for my life coming year.

Marrying the one you love or the one that's financially stable. What's your advice and opinion?
You have little money saved up to support your wedding to a man who can't afford marriage and nothing saved up to support same marriage?? What you need the wedding for ma'am!??

Be smart, cos I believe you've got it!

EducationRe: Let’s Discuss! If School Does Not Work Out, What Is Your Back Up Plan? by kumulus(m): 5:43am On Dec 14, 2020
kingxsamz:
Bro the thread clearly says, "what's your next plan if school doesn't work out"? Not "is skill worth more than education"?

Part of his comment was "My main plan and back-up plan all involves me getting an education so if you like be there and be doing "vocational skill" .we'll see how far that really gets you" .

So according to the thread's title, does one still opt for education when it has clearly failed him in a failed country like Nigeria? That's why his comment is laughable, because it doesn't work that way in a setting like Nigeria.
And yes, you can be successful through a skill you acquired without finishing or going through higher institution.
My point of exactly.

Newman20:
If you ask me I'd say you got a little too philosophical in your post. We're talking about the job market and how you plan to survive if education doesn't work out and your explanation doesn't pan out.

In our economy today the fact is that there is no room for upcoming businesses to thrive or even get the profit they were expecting. If you ask me almost all business ventures in our country are over saturated and don't bring profit. The only solution is to get an education (a wide one not just ssce or a bachelor's) and I assure you that there will be no limit to the success you can achieve ( just kidding there is actually a limit because this is Nigeria).

Like Nwadykexcel the person above you said "Those looking at skill acquisition as a substitute for education are truly shortsighted."

Fin
It ought to be clear to you my response was directed to NwadykExcel.

Do you have an idea of how many graduates this country has presently?? The number is embarrassingly too large, how many decades of churning out jobless graduates againhuh

Well I wouldn't go into further details on that so I don't hear it too much...

I don't think I hinted anywhere I'm against education, the op asked for backup plans if education failed and he said his backup was education still...how is that plausible in the first place when the question had been conditioned so??! Think about that please.

We claim the country is saturated with businesses and entrepreneurs already but is that so?? What I think we fail to realize is that the world has moved off into the information age and the industrial era is getting into its final close. When people say they are getting a skill I don't think it's the tailoring, automobile mechanic, fashion design thingy per se. The world as we know it today is more a global village and thankfully we are getting access to information more readily via the internet, office works are getting out of fashion...the world is moving off into cloud computing and people who posses good skills are ever needed. Traditional "professionals" are very much less in demand. What it takes to thrive in this time anywhere are skills, not certificates.

Why do you think most graduates around here are regarded as 'unemployable'? You probably should be asking yourself right now, what makes a graduate employable??! Skills my man, not the "this is to certify that ......" America today as we know it was built out from economic disadvantage off the efforts of nothing but pure skill and grit, very industrious men who displayed great passion gave the foundation of what you see today as the number one nation. Men who showed skill and not just intellect or academia alone.

Remember according to the op, this wasn't a choice between classroom education and/or skills acquisition, he said a 'backup plan'. If there's one who failed to address the op correctly I suspect it should be the young man I initially responded to.

To address the issue of businesses failing to make profit, how do we expect this not to be. The flow of money is greatly outbalanced hence the constant failures recorded by people going into business (which in most cases are people who have failed to do due diligence).

Again, it isn't a "vs'' matter!

Thanks.
The dynamics of Yoruba language can't be overemphasized.

I think what Àyànmó ni Kádàrá means is "What will be will be". Something like, Qué Sera Sera.

I for one belief in destiny and predestination. We can alter it through some metaphysical force. The world we live in is vast and concentrated beyond our reasoning.
From josielewa's input, I think àyànmó ni kádàrá would translate loosely as "Choices makes our fate". Hence, putting it in context Que Sera Sera does carry similar undertones, so yes!

If Àyàmó is destiny, what is Kádàrá?

Pardon my curiosity.
To be honest, I do not know what it means exactly but I suppose it should be along the lines of destiny as well.

Truth be told, a great part of the beauty of Yoruba language had been lost. Hence the ineffectiveness when communicating in the language.

Might we try splitting the components as we did with Àyànmó?;

Ká (We should) dà rá (buy individually).

Like something each must obtain/buy/purchase by himself/herself. I may be very wrong though, as I've previously stated I'm not an authority on the matter.

Bless your curiosity ma'am, hope you find that which you seek.

While acquiring a skill, you'd be getting educated. At the end of the day, depending on how fast things works out...you could be at the receiving end young man. Haven't you for a moment thought about the implications of fully developed AI technology??! It's far reaching effectshuh!!

I foresee a future where man wouldn't have to work as we've known, robots and computers are taking over everything since machine learning came to fore. From design to development, AIs are perfecting the schemes. What numbers do you have that machines wouldn't finesse in split seconds??

Don't be the shortsighted one, knowledge can be very useless if it can't translate into skill. What good is a husband who knows how to kill a rat in the bedroom but can't kill one at that ungodly hour when it mattered??

I've met a professor of Mechanical Engineering from UI during my IT experience at a workshop in Ibadan who said although he knew all about the car he drove, he can't perform a simple general servicing of the said automobile.

Don't wait to see how far ahead they get!

Christianity EtcRe: Do You Really Believe In Destiny? by kumulus(m): 11:41am On Dec 13, 2020
I'm Yoruba and I believe the correct translation for 'destiny' in Yoruba is 'Àyànmó'.

I ask myself, what does this mean!?
Simply put without complicating matters, àyànmó breaks down as;

"To choose (yàn) and add (mó) to something already in place/existing".

Hence the philosopher said; 'Mans destiny is in his hands'.

Dangote sits atop the financial chain in the country today because he keeps adding to his dreaming new ambitions, Elon is making waves because he won't stop choosing newer ideas to pursue......... If as a poor man you fail to 'choose' to be rich and do what's required you shall remain poor.

In life, everything grows/expands/get better by receiving novelty. A man that doesn't desire a good thing wouldn't do the works necessary to achieve and hence shouldn't expect to receive the fruits of doing the good works.

It's astounding the wisdom we can attain IF we come back home

By the choices I make, hence my actions and/or inactions I Am.

Come back home and stop confusing yourselves by means of a foreign language.

Have a blessed week everyone and make better choices as you add to your life, this is the work, this is destiny!

what is preventing Nigeria from rising now? Do our leaders don't like better things? Just look at the neat tidy well constructed roads! What is wrong in having all roads in Nigeria look so tidy like this?

Nawa!
Nigerian leaders aren't responsible for keeping roads and infrastructures tidy and properly utilized, citizens are. The difference between Banana Island and Ketu isn't the geographical locations of this two areas but the people living in these different locations, THEY THINK DIFFERENTLY. Leaders in these cases are secondary defaulters, they fail to make and fully implement the right policies.

PhiliptheArab:
We don't have these kind of streets in nigeria because we are not ready to pay the kind of taxes that would fund and maintain those kind of streets.

In the UK, if you are living in the city, you pay council tax which ranges from 60000 to 100000 naira monthly depending on the city. That money goes into making the cities look nice

That's why uk cities have great streets.

If we charged that kind of tax in Nigeria, Nigerians would scream.

So we pay scanty taxes and get scanty and bad roads

The bad roads we have in Nigeria are what we can afford. The sad thing is that looting still happens on top
How convenient to put these words together, you flatter yourself much supporting nonsense. They are able to pay council tax worth between 60000 to 100000 from earnings of how much again, take that much from the wage of the average Nigerian worker and you have a negative pay for him/her.

Nigeria won't have such infrastructures until we imbibe a culture of responsible and responsive living as citizens and also start electing men with growth focused visions to public service. Men who understands that leadership is a call to serve and not to rule. Until your politicians are able to see they are in those offices to deliberate on and draft public policies that creates and enables institutions that bring about sustainable growth and development, expect nothing sophisticated.

Where are their pictures before and after experiment? Otherwise, I don't believe.
Start taking deeper breathes and see how your daily life gets better. Just like when you exercise daily, your cells regenerate easily and faster because there's constant and abundant supply of fuel. You also tend to be very active and agile throughout the days. Personally if I go a few days without working up my body, my energy levels drop, my posture becomes poor, I wear out quicker and I'm less productive.

Oxygen is a vital element in human living, healthy lungs are key to healthy living.

Try this experiment; take a long deep in-breath, hold it in for as long as you can (with practice it gets longer).....take notice of how/what you feel as you release the out-breath and after release. Good health can be relatively cheap!!

Hello guys,

Please have you ever been asked "what do you want from me?" by a lady that you just wanted to help with no strings attached?

I was driving home yesterday after work and a lady (average looking) flagged me to stop and i decided to stop and gave her a lift. I asked her where she was going and she mentioned a bustop before mine and i said lucky you... We had a lil chat as i drove her and she seemed really fun, We got to her bustop and i offered to be taking her to work in the morning since she stays close to my place. Then suddenly her face changed and she asked the annoying question "Oga what do you want from me?".. at that point i was dumbfounded and sad at same time. But i had to quickly smile and said "nothing" then i drove off.

For me i find it sad, a lot of people are not used to good people doing good things without wanting anything in return.

How do you feel and react when asked that question?

Please share yours
With the level of craziness I've seen most Nigerians (all classes) display over these couple years which seem to have 10x the past months, I'm pretty sure I would have unapologetically told her; "I want you to right now get the fu*k outta my car and NEVER flag me down EVER again"

Nonsense

I sure have seen beautiful wrinkled-face aged folks, personally I don't subscribe to the idea of thinking beauty is necessarily attributable only to good/young looks. It's an attribute of the soul, beyond the physically perceivable.

Not all aged people becomes vegetables, there are those who still remain relatively active. Even those who have living conditions as you described can still make the best of that time by thinking new thoughts, they can explore the realm of Mind with absolute dedication. This I believe is one of the sacred purposes of this phase.

Speaking of death, don't we die daily? This shouldn't be a source of worry tho

I love this.

Most people don't understand once you destroy things during protest, you are indirectly taking away your right.

Some people will say it ìs their constitutional right to protest, yes it is but also know that destruction, blocking of roads and airports, burning down buildings, and occupying Government buildings is no more a protest again but a coup.
Do you sir, my dearest friend also understand that in same vein some people will say; unhinged looting, misappropriation of public funds, budget padding, bogus and needless allowances, over-taxation, government sponsored terrorism, nepotism, extrajudicial killings, abuse of public office, abandoned projects to name just few of the numerous ills which has brought this great nation of people to her knees is their constitutional right?

Not supporting looting or burning but I'd say, every action demands a reaction. The recent events across the nation is a response to years of bad leadership, hence failed governance. The leaders¹ have failed to set a good example.
