I want a 4 cyl. How soon can it come?
There are two issues at stake here.

First, a 1998 can only come thru Cotonou.

Second, because its a Cotonou car, i will only get involved if its 100% paid upfront. Which i am not sure how comfortable is that with you.

I am registered used car dealer here in California, i can help you locate it and ship it (Manual Camry's are a little difficult to find but not impossible).

You will be responsible for the clearing thru cotonou. There are lots of reputable cotonou guys here on NL that can help you.

My email is : promise72@yahoo.com

Let me know.

sorry o, comcentury. i don't intend to 'spoil' anyone's mind about buying your car.i was only pointing out the obvious fact that selling cars nowadays has gone beyond the traditional posting of pictures. you need to read seun's post on the nl autos page and confirm that any car being put up for sale must be accompanied by the vehicle indentification number (vin). if you choose to withold your car vin for reasons best known to you, then it's your choice. just as your not 'forcing' anybody to buy so also nobody is forcing you to post your vin. i wish you goodluck in your sale.
Well said!!!

comcentury:
@George_D and pls don't use my post as a public opinion poll.If you dont want to buy just forget it and look for another one, there are millions of cars for sale on nairaland everyday, don't spoil the mind of others i categorically state this car is genuine and there is nothing to hide.i will post th vin at my own convenience.thanks

Thanks a lot Kunle, but i still know what offers i am getting, may be the only challenge i will have is a full inspection of the dump truck that i found online. The price is $8,500 and plus shipping according to you is $13,000 plus $1500 for clearing in Lagos all amounts to $14,500 and =N= 2,247,500 (@155/$). So this is the calculation i am working with. Dump truck is in Mississipi. My guy's in Queens N.Y, and getting him to go down there to check the vehicle and certify it ok is just the issue on ground now.

Cos there's a possibility that those guys wanna sell scrap off to me.

Please advice.
I got ur drift now. Here's the deal: Dont forget that the truck will somehow need to get from Mississippi or anywhere you bought it to the port. Check that the cost is included in your calculation. The distance is considerable for me to believe that it will be included in the $8500. Also be prepared to pay $$$ to send your guy (and beg him too) to check out whatever you will be buying.

You are welcomed to send him to this one posted here too. Ohio is much closer than mississippi. Either way you will need to pay!

Things like tires, engine condition etc counts too. A new tire will cost you from N60k - N100k in Naija (depending on the Grade). Multiply that by 10 and you know what you are looking at. Brakes? rust? Hydraulic tipping system? Overall condition are all factors that will come into consideration at the end of the day.

I will advise you to send your guy out to inspect the vehicle you are trying to get. Picture is nice but looking it personally is better and the closer the cheaper is it for you. BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY YOUR GUY TO DO IT!. He can help you out with his time but i doubt he's willing to foot the bill too.

The choice is yours my friend. Good luck.

I have already crossed the =N= 3m mark, and according to my calculations i was looking at with truck cost plus shipping at $4k and clearing at Lagos Port all together amounting to =N= 2.3m. So we are out of range man. Thanks for your breakdown, i just wuold have felt better dealing with you cos you are no stranger on Nairaland. So please see if there's any way you can give me some concession.
Friend,

If you are looking for a good truck, i must confess to you that the budget you have is way too low. N2.3m will be $14,838 (@ 155/$). The shipping of the truck will be $4500 and about $1300 to clear in Naija.

This will leave you with about $9000 to buy and transport the truck. That will not be left with much. Average transport cost will be about $500-$1000 from wherever you bought the truck to the port.

That is reducing even further to about $8000. I do believe in miracles but it will be tough in this case. Even if you are getting a trailerhead. The dump truck of the 1975-1980 models will even be tough to get in that range. At least for a good running one, not to say something like a 1983.

So the moral of the story is that "Be realistic and increase your budget". At least its still cheaper that buying in Naija. You are at least saving about N1-2m average.
AutosRe: 1.2 Million Naira For A Toyota, Nissan Or Honda by KunleA2(m): 7:45am On Nov 24, 2009
This is a very TALL order. Let go thru the numbers that cannot be negotiable.

Budget:$7700

Shipping $1400

Clearing: $1600

Rest : $4700

With that money, i think may be you might be lucky to get something like an Altima/Maxima with a high mileage (130k or so)

Also dont forget the cost of running around. Even at auctions, its not guaranteed that you will find what you are looking for the same day you went there. So theres a cost of going from one auction to the other etc.

After you do get the car, there will be transportation cost or some type of delivery cost that will be involved. Certainly to the port. Also you WILL find one or two things to repair on the car. No matter what cos its used and its a 2002. undecided

Might be full service, oil change, tires, brakes, alignment etc. Thats why you need to reserve like $500 - $1,000. Especially its a gift, you want everything to work right before handing over the ride.

What state are you in? I am glad that you are here yourself and you can see the ground yourself. So if you get a "better" deal in Naija be very careful cos nothing goes for nothing.

If it can't be bought here cheap, it certainly cant be sold for cheap. undecided

Unless of course there's an issue with the car.

What state are you in again?
AutosRe: 1.2 Million Naira For A Toyota, Nissan Or Honda by KunleA2(m): 6:44am On Nov 24, 2009
Where are you presently? You were inquiring about auctions and stuff the other thread.

Are you talking of "all inclusive" price? Buying, shipping, clearing etc
AutosRe: Cost Of Car Shipment To Nigeria? by KunleA2(m): 5:28am On Nov 24, 2009
Most auctions should allow a preview on the day before the actual auction day. That is the day that they will let you test drive and hear the car run. NOT ON AUCTION DAY! cos everywhere is too busy.

You need to go before the real auction date, hear the car run and get the VIN. You can then find out from the VIN by asking the people here on the site.

Good luck.!

lol @ Poster, please i beg you in the name of God . . . go with Kunle's advice. My mum's 2003 EOD presently has a transmission problem and some 2 days ago we were told it may cost up to 250k to get a new gear box. Dat car is abt 70% problematic . . . Toyota is by far more pocket nd environment friendly grin
I couldn't have said it better. Even getting the new gearbox is not a guarantee that you will not encounter the same problem again. My advise will be, SELL the car as soon as you are done fixing it and get a Toyota!!!

Good luck.

german007:
"Most German cars will exceed 500,000 miles"

Well said sienna.  This is something Iv been preaching and laying emphasis on.   Have I ever seen a toyota reach 220k miles?.Dont think so.
Sorry to burst your bubble, you are either misinformed or been living under a rock for all these years, no offense. Why don't you try and find about the LEGENDARY toyota 22R engines. Its has been in production since the 60's or so. 18R, 20R, 21R, 22R etc. Here in the US, you see them approaching 300k miles (That will be about 480,000 kms) with no issue. The hilux pickup truck uses those engines. Carina, Corona, old Celica etc.

Even Siena, i believe, used to have a Supra or a Celica before, and he can tell you.

You are free to love your German cars all you want but the difference is in the maintenance cost. Japanese engines might not be as fun to drive as compared to German but you can't argue your way out of the cost of maintenance and ease of fixing. And to most folks, that all that matters.

There is not where in the world that you won't either find a Toyota or someone who can fix one. However, that can't be said for a BMW. So why would i wanna get stranded waiting for some certified mechanic or i can take it around the corner of my town and get it fixed?

All these images from remote villages in war zones like Somalia, Iraq, Labanon, Egypt, etc. More than likely you will see a Toyota running around. With a machine gun on top sometimes  cheesy

Which is better Honda Accord 2003/2004 or camry 2002-2004 , I see so many EOD on sale , making me wonder if it is a good car ?
If i were u for my money, i will go for a Camry all the way, SOME EOD's from 1998-2003 are known to be having too much gear problems. Though not all of them, but enough to make me stay away from them if i am looking for one.

If you must drive an EOD from that year mentioned above, get a manual transmission, no automatic, then you are safe.

Good luck

Its $13,500 delivered to the Baltimore port, so whatever the shipping company would charge add on to that. Probally delivered to Lagos port you would be looking at roughly $19,500 Delievered to your port. Are we in range at all??

dear friends esp Adexfem and AMERICANEX and other good hearts.

i'm on hoilday in maryland and want to send cars to nigeria (for family). one mercedes r350 2009 model and one toyota camry 2005 model.

question:

since the mercedes law of no exportation of cars under two years, how do i export this vehicle to nigeria. i bought it brand new from mercedes but have used it here(and still using) for 2 months now. intend shipping by the 14th december.

toyota camry is a used one.

whats the best price to ship roro / container

whats the fastest and most reliable means (i don't want dramatic companies pls)

I read from your advice that ACL is good and a little pricy, but i also read counter comments from real customers that vehicles stayed for 5 months.

pls advice urgently
As long as the Benz is fully registered, then you can export it. I believe that Benz will only refuse if you are exporting a new car directly out of the country. You are free to do whatever you want with it after its been registered in your name first in the US. Hence, its considered a "pre-owned/used car".

I think you can use Hoegh line. It also depends on the time you are exporting it. You can find out from AES Shipping in NJ(AESSHIPPING.COM) to know if there's is availability of space for Dec. 14. Speak with Mike. And you can drop off from Baltimore port there with no problem

I will guess that since most Xmas shipment are already gone, you shouldn't have a problem. Again, its just my guess. Check with them yourself.

Good luck in what you do.
