After almost a whole year, I guess you should be married to the brother now...lol or what is the present state of things? Don't tell me it didn't go beyond the I-love-you-over-the-phone stage and that you have another man. I really want to know what's up...lol |

ripe age for marriage (I.e 29-35years) The moment I read this post I was too sure someone would refer to this but amazingly, no one has. As much as I love d post, the salient assumption that a man's ripe age for marriage is 29 really does strike me. I'm thinking 25, all other things being equal. We all know age has very little to do with being responsible as a man. Well, maybe I just happen to see issues like this from a difference perspective as I'm the only one who seem not to totally agree with that. My 22yr old friend who just got is girlfriend pregnant and is planning marriage must not see this. Lol |

okosodo: @ kunlejazz i am not only blaming awo, even zik to me is the biggest EDIOT that sold a whole generation marauders. But however, awo has the opportunity to redeem it, he sold it to personal ambition. You're correct but remember Awo was not a uniformed man. People keep saying he had the greatest opportunity to change the status quo and I totally agree but how? He was a bloody civilian. A revolution by Awo against the military government of that day would not only have failed but would have been suicidal for him and, more importantly for the whole of the south! Ojukwu had the training, youthfullness, intelligence and the finance to pull off a revolution but see how it all ended, talk-less a civilian. If I were in Awo's shoes, I would have preferred to stay completely off politics and closed my eyes as northerners raped the rest of Nigeria than dine with the north but then, he had an ambition that ate him all up, so also did Zik, Ojukwu and Abiola but it only worked for Zik. |

okosodo: Nigeria has been sucking the azz of the north since 1960, news like these confirm to me that every northerner with the exception of a very few hate the southerners but love their oil. Awo caused it and i will continue to say. I love Yoruba people as even my chick is a Yoruba, he was greedy and we were all take aback. Igbos keep off as i know insults will come but dont fight for me cos i also have some reservations about some of your leaders My brother, as much as Awo had his own failings as a human being, I think its very unfair and irrational to paint him in this light. Awo was not the first to pally with the north-Zik was, Aguiyi ironsi and a whole lot of igbos including Ojukwu at some point did, and then Awo, Abiola, Obasanjo and now Rochas...the list is only going to grow longer as long as state quota of the north remains the highest. The reason is very simple: the British had already seeded Nigeria to the north, the mechanism of near irreversible lopsidedness had been put in place and this is what gives northern Nigeria political edge till this day. All these great men that have pallied, and will still pally with the north do so because that, at the particular time, was/is (as the case may be) the ONLY way to realize their political ambitions. They are a major determinant in winning elections, the north has 19 of the 36 states, they are a necessary evil. Think about that. Why Awo's name is usually the easiest to mention is probably because of his role in the Civil war; that, I understand. But had the case been a little different, and another non-yoruba southerner had been the one in the fore of the war, the same ills as are ascribed to Awo will be ascribed to him too. I'm so not an Awoist but I love the truth with a passion. |

All the guy did was invest in his future wife; it wasn't in any way some sort of philantropy like your post suggests. |

Religion / Re: Is It Sinful For A Christian To Listen To Secular Music??? by kunlejazz(m): 1:54pm On Oct 18, 2012 |
First we need to define who a christian is. Some people were born xtians but have no solid relationship with God, these I'll like to refer to as nominal christians. For instance, almost all south-eastern Nigerians (predominantly igbos) are 'xtians' but majority are norminal xtians. The other category is those who have been regenerated;born again, spirit-filled believers, regardless of the religion they were born into. My contributions will be directed to the later. I think apart from the content, which should be chaste and edifying, the kind of music we listen to should have more to do with the personality of the singer/musician. The devil can perform miracles and he empowers humans to do so but that doesn't change the fact that the output, which is a miracle is a good thing and that the source, the devil, is inherently evil! When the source of a piece of music is not a regenerated soul it doesn't matter whether the content is chaste or not, it is still not wholesome for our souls. Growing up listening to a lot of R&B and Soul music, coupled with the fact that all my life, music has been and is one of the things I understand and 'do' best, I've found out that worldly/unwholesome music is defined by these: 1. The content and 2. The source Just like it doesn't matter how much of the Word a man of God knows, if he is a cultist whatever he says is sacrilege regardless of it being the truth. Growing up as an ardent listener of Soul and R&B, I attempted suicide a good number of times; you see, unwholesome music establishes a very strong connection with your soul, a connection which from time to time provokes depression. Why do you think people faint (a sign of loss of control over the soul and 'over-the-edge' depression) when MJ sings (even when it is a good song like 'heal the world'), but are rather convicted and repent of their sins when the singer is a Don Moen or a Ron kenoly? Now the question that will immediately pop up in an inquisitive mind is, "what if the 'unwholesome music' is from a regenerated soul?" Well, a truly regenerated soul(who isn't backslidden) WILL not produce unwholesome music. He/She may however make music that have no direct connotations of the christian belief but still has a wholesome message, that is in all ramifications good and edifying music. This implies, contrary to popular Christian opinion that good music is not only that which has religious/biblical content. Now, the part 'whether it is a sin or not' should be treated with discretion. Like someone earlier quoted that we guard our hearts with all diligence; that, I think is the crux of the matter. Whatever pollutes/harms your soul is Sin! This depends a lot on how emotionally and psychologically mature the individual's mind is as what harms my mind may not have any effect on yours. 1 Like |

duni04: Funny thing is I'm yoruba and I prefer Igbo girls to Yoruba girls. Yoruba girls are lousy, very material and always disrespectful. Most of the Igbo girls I know are either staunch catholics or very serious pentecostal Christians. Its easier to find a chaste Igbo girl than a yoruba one. You know, what's funny to me is I'm also yoruba and I'm usually more attracted to igbo girls(SS/SE girls generally) probably cos I've stayed in the east but from my experience they are actually much more 'materialistic', but in a different way. For instance, before a yoruba girl asks you to buy her blackberry, she'll at least pretend she's in love with you and make you feel you're d man... but its different with igbo girls; she doesn't have to be committed to you or pretend she is b4 making demands. The moment she senses u like her, you're in for it. I have many igbo friends that sponsored women (their wives to be)through higher institution only to be told they're not educated or financially stable enuff and then dumped after many yrs (something she knew fully well before agreeing to marry him and go to school on his bill). I've seen this happen many a times and I never cease to wonder why. Summarily, I think igbo girls go for bigger thins and not just cheap stuff like blackberries, clothes and d likes like a yoruba girl would. Talk more of university education, a clothes shop, establishing her younger brothers in ur business/profession etc 4 Likes |

alajor: Not really, I live here in south africa and there r people that's use two lines but most of them r nigerians,me included. Most households in south africa have land lines and there r very cheap call centres almost in every street here in the cities. I must say that the promotions here by mtn, vodacom, cellc r always good, they give u discounts always, they r trying to beat competition with cheaper rates. And the only reason why I have a second line is because its very cheap when u use it to call 9ja not becauseI dey form big boy as is the case wit most nigerians at home. Nigerians don't use many lines to 'form big boy', you can say 'some' use many phones for that reason. But the major reason Nigerians have many lines is becos of tariff difference. The average Nigerian uses mtn majorly to receive calls(becos he/she has been known with d line and can't just throw it away) and calls FAF nos only ( and probably browse), uses airtel or etisalat to make calls becos their call rates are cheaper than mtn and uses glo for BIS cos glo BIS is abt d best in terms of tariff, data bundle size and quality. Summarily, I think Nigerians are only being economical and not showing off in any way. They're just harnessing the variety in service quality and charges. 2 Likes |

Can't believe I've been on NL for so long and have never thought of starting a thread like this. I have a degree in Physics and I'm working in the telecoms sector. I think a good degree in Physics is the best thing that can happen to any ambitious fellow, no bias. You'll find out after ur first degree that there's almost nothing you can't and doesn't want to do. Studying physics really does get frustrating a times cos of the depth but it's one of the few things on earth that gives me joy. Now for anyone just coming out of school or intending to study physics in Nigeria with the hope of going into telecoms, I'd like u to consider this very practical path to becoming an expert and a big earner in the industry in Nigeria-a purely Nigerian solution, you might want to do the ffg: 1. Get a job with any ICT firm (Telecoms/Network engineering) however lowly placed, you'll get better and better ones as u continue in d process 2. Pursue cisco certifications to expert level(CCIE R&S or CCIE SP) and 3. Proceed for an MSc (part-time if u will) in Electronics/telecoms/IT By the end of this which should take between 3-5yrs, along with 3-5 yrs experience, almost every top ICT firm in Nigeria will want you, even if they don't need you, talkless out side Nigeria. This not only makes u an expert in ur field, it brings you to a level playing ground as other experts all over the world. I know pple who towed d same line, some even without expert level certification but with a lot of experience. They're sought for all over the world. 1 Like |

I have noticed a trend over the past decade or so. Many christian women(very committed ones) who would normally not even date a muslim are getting married to muslim guys, basically because of money and are even forced to become muslims. I think if inter-religious marriage has to be it shouldn't be greed-motivated. This is very disheartening. It comes across to me like these ladies' greed is bringing them to a place of enslavement and many of them don't even care! But the reverse hardly happens. Muslim women almost NEVER marry christian guys(I mean practicing ones)...I think that says a lot about the sincerity and depth of conviction these so called christian sisters really have for their faith. |

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Why People Dont Get Jobs by kunlejazz(m): 12:40am On Sep 29, 2012 |
You know, having spent good time in the various kinds of work environments(blue collar, white collar, multinationals etc),i found out that the problem is more of 'unemployability' than en-employment. Majority of the graduates we have are actually not readily employable and that has nothing to do with ur GP. The ONLY thing, and I repeat the ONLY thing a 2.1 or First class does for you is that it guarantees you more interviews than some1 with a 2.2 or less. It DOESN'T guarantee u a job. Ask any 2.1 or first class who wishes to be sincere. As much as its very important to have good grades, I think many pple place so much emphasis on it that they end up not knowing jack about the real life. Secondly, many people don't want to start small. They get an over-estimated impression of themselves after school and they think most of the jobs aren't worth it. Believe me, most of the time, if you risk taking those 'below ur class' jobs you'll see that you can't even do them well! Yes, as below ur class as they are, you still would not deliver. What this tells us is that, most times in this part of the world, passing through school makes us think we're worth much more than we actually do. So summarily, start with a job seemingly below ur worth. You may find out u aren't even good enuff for dt low job(which most times is the case). And lastly, you must know exactly the kind of job u want and work-study in preparation for it. I really have a lot to say about this topic so maybe I'll compose a well-structured note to address it. |
