Abeg nairalanders, please tell me which of the things listed above by the illiterate ngene are true today.

The market already says the dollar is N400, so the whole N199 fixed rate is just artificial.

I can wake up tomorrow as dullarpo and declare that dollar is now N10, but guess what? The market value would still be as it is, probably worse.

So who are we kidding here?

Even if our currency is rightfully to take a hit during this period, a N400 hit is just so, so bad.

I believe the best thing for Nigeria right now is to loosen up this stringent dollar policy to encourage inflow of dollar investments, since investors would be confident that they can easily cash out. At the same time, we would have to roll up our sleeves to work on #MadeInNigeria, imposing higher taxes to imported products and giving tax breaks to local products.

I believe these can be done simultaneously, instead of shutting most Nigerians off to the world.

PoliticsTypical APC Hypocrisy Spotted by kYjelly2(op): 9:44pm On Feb 20, 2016
Back then, they castigated GEJ for naira fall to 216, as shown in the pic below and comments on nairaland.

Now APC chief zombie be like:

oduastates:
NOTHING I WANT MORE THAN FOR CRUDE OIL PRICES TO FALL MORE AND MORE .
This is the best thing to shock the country out of uselessness. And if people refuse to change , let them continue to suffer.
It will also be good for the Niger delta

At this present moment , I believe that the true value of the naira is closer to N5000 if you discount oil.
Basically means that Nigeria does not export anything , does not make anything and will forever remain dysfunctional until the bitter medicine is applied
Restricting dollars does work . It did work in 1983 .
It means that individuals and companies whose business are built on importation and dumping of basic items will suffer and possibly collapse .
It also means that potential local alternatives will grow out of the ashes .
I cannot forget how South Korea used Nigeria to experiment and dump those paper Daewoo experio cars .we allowed them . Countries come and dump in Nigeria without restrictions while they put all sorts of restrictions on Nigerian agricultural produce.

Nigerians want to buy what they cannot afford .
What has changed between 1983 and now is the taste for excessive luxury.
What has never worked in Nigeria is the devaluation.
Every devaluation in a Nigeria has always led increase in poverty while the looting elites later bring back a little bit of their looted dollars to buy government properties for cheap.
To show you how the useless Nigerian economy behaves, tomatoes , onions and beef sellers have increased their prices because of the devaluation of naira.
When exactly did dollars become the Nigerian currency.
None of the inputs into the production of these two goods has suffered a corresponding increase in price.
What you have there is an economy that simply does not work . For a few years under Obj , it felt like Nigeria was about to build a truly middle class led economy . That dream was blown away by Yar Adua and Jonathan
This is why I support the dismantling of the current system of excessive importation which I hope will be followed up by the dismantling of the informal sector as shown by the behaviour of these tomatoes seller.
This crisis remains an opportunity. Let the elites cry and starve for the dollars .
This crisis present and opportunity to change the way Nigeria works .
A Nigerian value chain can be built without much effort . If your drink factory need orange concentrate , source it locally . Mango is wasting away in Benue , tomotoes is rotting away in the north .
Talking about priorities,
Ondo was building useless conference centres when it should be building Cocoa plantations . Cross river was building Tinapa instead of palm oil , Akwa ibom was building stadium instead of pineapples and coconut , Osun building airport instead of plantain.
Do they know that they can build an entire value chain on what they have ? From chocolate to soap , cosmetics ,detergent, lubricants, medicine etc
hehehe grin grin

PoliticsI Don't Understand How Anyone Could Have Voted For Buhari by kYjelly2(op): 1:08am On Feb 19, 2016
Even on Yahoo blogs after the election, folks from other countries were asking how a country could have elected a former dictator.

Are we so dumb, that out of 160 million people, we couldn't find someone fresh? so we had to go back in time to bring back someone that stole the presidential mandate with a gun?

I just don't get it!

Daily, you here about Nigerians breaking records abroad and Even just recently a Nigerian solved an age old mathematics problem that had evaded solution from others for years.

So out of all the extraordinary Nigerians, we still had to go back and bring a dictator back?

Why are black people like this? I hate to generalize, but in this case, it just seems that the general population is filled with dumb people, or maybe overly sentimental and tribal people, which is still falls under the definition of dumb in my opinion.

Sad that we keep getting things wrong. I hope one day, we will put our brains to good use and critically analyze a candidate, though that may be hard to do for an illiterate population.
BusinessRe: Naira Now 365 To A Dollar by kYjelly2: 11:42pm On Feb 17, 2016
Sometimes, I really wonder why I was made a Nigerian

Are you saying that our currency will become worthless in my lifetime? That just makes me want to shed tears.

We cannot go the Zimbabwe route were we would need to pull out 500 naira just for a soda and 1000 naira just for bread.

I still remember back in my secondary school days when bread was 10 naira and a cold coke was 10 naira as well. Our house master would give us 20 naira everyday out of our pocket money and we would get coke and bread comfortably.

I have seen this Nigeria just get worse and worse and there has been nothing that I could do about it. I hate this feeling of being powerless in the face of my crumbling country.

Every election, federal, state and local, I have witnessed my fellow citizens get it wrong and that also bring tears to my eyes. Just once I thought maybe we could get ultra intelligent and sophisticated leadership, but each time, I've been disappointed as I watch my fellow citizens sacrifice their future for food, or for some foolish ethnic victory or some other stupiid reason.

Now the one thing that we would need as strong foundation for the future, education, is crumbling. Illiterates flood the north, and educated illiterates flood the south, so who then would build the future?

My God, please empower those of us who mean well to be used for the good of this country, or if it's your will let this country be split so each region can start afresh.

I really don't understand most peeps in the north sometimes, guess it has to do with islam.

From the mallam on your street all the way to those in the north, they just keep having an alarming number of children for people that don't even have homes.

Nobody is saying we hate people, but as a responsible human, you must always weigh your actions and in the case of children, you should plan way ahead, cause it's life we are talking about.

I just don't get it men

Just look at traffic jams in Lagos and the insane amount of northern children that flood the streets with their mothers nearby, i mean, why?

Why would you do that to those kids, all because of religion or some other stuff?

It's really sickening men and till this day, they keep popping out these children in huge numbers without heeding advice from anyone.

I think at a time, they even rejected family planning, saying it was against religion.

Don't know what to say again men, but we are sitting on a time bomb in this country men

Just imagine Nigeria with 500 million inhabitants in the near future with oil prices gone to the dogs, we would be in for it men. It's not like most of the population would be trained anyway, so you'd just have a whole bunch of illiterates, sad sad
