Do you see the Devil anywhere near you when you look at a Muslim and decide not to help him after a bike accident? The Reason why God holds us accountable for our deeds to go to Heaven or Hell is because Man is responsible for the Evil in this World. Did the Devil force the Apple down Eve's throat? (takes a bow) I am here to propose the motion that Righteousness as a Gift is not a True determinant of Man's Righteousness before God. Let me start by speaking on the comment made by my co-debater.

If a man is born of God , he receives the nature of righteousness as a gift. Every christian has righteousness.They are as righteous as Christ  in the sight of God.

Righteousness as a Gift is the first Step of Faith but to complete the journey you must manifest Righteousness, you cannot gloss over a subject like righteousness with one carte-blanche position as you have just done. 

Righteousness by Faith– Romans 10:10 ‘It is this belief in your heart that makes you righteous, but it’s your mouth, when it confesses this, that brings salvation.’

Righteousness beyond Faith - James 2: 24, ‘A man is called righteous by the things he does, not just by his faith.’

Signs of Righteousness  – Matthew 5:6, ‘Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed because they will be satisfied.’

Righteousness with Pride (this is the righteousness of most Nigerian MOG) – Matthew 6:1 ‘Be careful not to do righteous things in front of men so they can see what you are doing. Otherwise, you won’t have a reward with your Father in heaven.’

Righteousness for God’s Kingdom – Matthew 6:33, put the Kingdom and righteousness in first place, then all these  things will be given to you.’

Righteousness by Works – Matthew 11:19, ‘Wisdom is proven righteous by the things it does.’

Righteousness by Words – Romans 3:4, ‘Your words can prove you righteous, and you can win when you’re being judged.’

Righteousness by deeds – Matthew 25:37-40, ‘Then the righteous will ask, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you as a stranger and take you in, or unclothed and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison, and come to you? And the king will say to them, I tell you the truth, when you did it for one of the least of these my brothers, you did it for me.’

Righteous and Tolerance – James 3:18, ‘The seeds of the fruit of righteousness are planted in peace by those who are making peace.’

Righteousness by Judgment – John 7:24, ‘Quit judging from the way things look on the surface; judge righteously!’

Righteousness in the face of Persecution – Acts 4:19, 20, ‘If it’s righteous in God’s eyes to listen to you instead of to God, judge for yourselves. But we can’t stop talking about the things we’ve seen and heard.’

I hope i have been able to convince and not confuse you on the motion that Righteousness as a Gift is not a True determinant of Man's Righteousness before God.

Can you honestly (confidently) beat your chest and say there are millions of "Righteous" Nigerians, our shame is beyond Spiritual Stagnancy, it has become a curse that must be broken otherwise we are like homes with White-washed walls but the rot inside will cause a corpse to wake up and run in disgust

There are questions we must honestly ask ourselves - First as Human Beings then as Righteous Followers of our Religion

1: Is Religion a Personal/Individual Experience or is it a Public/Communal Activity
2: Is Religion a significant Pillar of Constitutional Governance or is it a Tenet of Social/Spiritual Virtues
3: Is Religion Freely[b] Open to Public Membership[/b] or[b] Restricted by Association[/b] or Criteria of some other nature

Unfortunately Religion is not necessarily a state of Human cognitive awareness that adapts to the Social Eco-system it thrives in. It seeks to change that Eco-System or demands that the Eco-system adapts to its own version of awareness. (Same with Christianity/Islam and rarely in other religions)

If Religion is part of a nation's constitution as it is with some Muslim/Christian States, then it would be within Civil Privileges to burn or stone a man to death as penalty for burning a Holy Book authored by God and written by Men as it would be for a Man to express his Civil Privileges by burning the Holy Book in the first place - How I long for the days when God actually wrote for himself (without ambiguity).


If one freely associates with a religion then he should be allowed to freely dis-associate himself from that religion if he so pleases without threat to his life.

One last question I whimsically ask myself is this - Why is God and Allah [b]incapable [/b]of Burning or Stoning a Man to death rather than inciting a rash of enraged, genocidal animals into settling slights against his character or the character of his messengers

Correct me if i'm wrong; the christians worship the personality of the figure of Jesus Christ, no?  As a matter of fact, the status of Jesus is far more important to an average christian than what Jesus actually taught. His charisma, his status, his divinity. . . all this are much more important to the christian religion than any spiritual teachings Jesus has ever taught.

Now, how long does it take to transfer this personality worship to real live pastors who are supposed to be the "embodiment" of christ on earth? It does not take very long at all. It is just a small step.

Jemwiwi  I think that is a common failing with humans to do more than necessary, to make a mountain out of a mole-hill. There are Universal truths in Christianity as with other religions, you just have to shine ya eyes past the blubber of human mis-interpretation and literal embellishment.

Prophecies are a mainstay in Christianity, you can say it is one of the identifiable characteristics of Christianity (i.e one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit). I guess what a lot of people (including Christians) will be watching is what happens if this turns out to be false? how far will it shake the foundations of Christian Faith, a little, plenty or not at all. and why?
