Assistant lecturer don't earn 150k after all statutory deductions. It's less than 110k sef and some institutions don't allow lectures sell handout again. Those guys dey suffer ibeg. Multinational anyday, 350k could rise to 500k in 2 years, 3-5years savings target to jet out of naija. His lecturer salary can't fund is Japa dream if he decides to relocate, he'll be due for promotion every 3 years with an increment less than 15k after promotion. I just hope he won't regret his decision, lectures are leaving academic to industry now as FG no value dem. A whole professor net pay monthly is less than 400k.
A colleague came from the banking sector, spent 2 years as a lecturer and ran back to the bank when sapa wan finish am.
Even if OP saves his 3years salary as a lecturer, he can't buy Tokunbo 06 Corolla or Camry and guy man go still chop, pay bills and flex. If I were him, I'd pick Multinationals and use their funds to jet out of Nigeria.

UK, but you must have a nursing background here in Nigeria first. Either from a University or from a Teaching Hospital. Getting a Certificate from a teaching hospital in Nigeria is usually 2yrs. (Or you can buy one illegally which i wouldn't recommend because you wouldn't have the basic knowledge)

I think the most important thing people don't take into consideration is what next when you get there, They think once you get there with no money and illegally, that manner will fall from heaven and you will earn millions out of thin air. I always advise anyone thinking of traveling to get a business here that can sustain itself then japa, because when you get there, you must pay in their currency and trust me if you have nothing doing, life is going to be difficult.

40k is not enough for feeding and home maintenance. To even cook a decent pot of soup that will last a few days for both of you, at least 5k.
And you both will still eat other meals 2 more times that day.
Just because you bought bag of rice and semo in the house, it doesn't mean that the kitchen is stocked.
It is not an allowance you are giving her. It is meant to run the home. Food is the biggest expense for any family.
Seperate feeding and home maintenance money. You are not 'giving' it to her.
House rent is once a year and you have 12 months to save towards it. You can ask her to contribute monthly from her salary to a seperate account where you contribute the rent money to.
Increase the feeding/home maintenance to 60-70k.
If she wants an allowance, give her something. A lot of women do a lot of unappreciated labour in the house. All the cooking and cleaning multiple times daily, planning and laundry... hosting your guests etc. If you disagree about the allowance, take over the feeding and home maintenance for a week. She should wake up, dress up and sit waiting for breakfast. Then when she returns, food should be on the table waiting for her. After eating, you do all the clean-up. Do all the laundry. Plan every activity. Attend to all your guests and still find time to call both family members to check on them. When you are done with all these, decide whether someone who does all these deserves an allowance or not.
She's your wife. She will not use the money to run another persons home.

Big mess. The problem with Nigerian govt is that they failed to review wages in accordance with inflation, which to me is plain wickedness. You see ASUU and other unions crying and begging for help when govt refused to review their wages for 13/14 years. How can wages remain static for 13years with the double digit inflation we keep having. A graduate assistant employed 13years ago received 90k and in 2023 you're still paying a graduate assistant same 90k, tell me why such lecturer won't extort students to get more money to survive.
The truth is that govt is fueling corruption. Majority of civil servants in Abuja survive and live on corruption because I don't know how they afford to pay rents there.

I know FIRS pays well but you see that ministry your brother works. Except he's into runs,he's monthly real salary can't feed him comfortably for a month. Don't be deceived by the AC, big office, secretary and security you see around oo. My boss has spent 35years in service and his total take home is 318k after all mandatory deductions and that's even an agency that pays better than ministries. The only way to be liberated as a civil servant in Naija is to have a business of your own or if you're opportune to be in an office with runs or get good jobs in FG agencies and parastatals. Some of those Assistant Directors in ministries don't take home 250k at the end of the month and have bills waiting for you. Any govt job you're doing without an extra income is penury cos by 2nd week of the month, salary don finish

There is a massive road construction that is near completion in that area. I work around there.

I was happy with what I saw when I came home home last year. December 2023 will make it 21years we moved to our house in that area. It was bushy when we moved to our house with good roads. So good that it was the usual spot for learners learning how to drive. I could trek from Igbogbo Model College to Oreyo Grammer School without meeting a single soul on that road except farmers sometimes. Sometimes we could play ball from school till we get to Oreyo cos the road was so smooth and free. Once it's 6pm, you'll never get a bike from either club24 Igbogbo or Igbe junction going to Oreyo, cos no Keke maruwa or bus on that route then, bikes sef were few cos na strictly farm with few residential houses, so route wasn't lucrative for business den, sometimes sef na leg we go use or follow trucks leaving or going to farm, or Papa Ajaasco film crew or other movie crew cos they acted rural or farm scene on that road alot. Papa Ajaasco classics were acted on that route and other 1990s and early 2000s rural settings movies so we get to meet those actors on a regular on that road. And the road went from Good to bad and worse that you'll always pray it doesn't rain cos na wahala to leave Oreyo to Igbogbo or Igbe Junction, so bad it took cars from so many people, some landlords had to move out and sold their properties, it became hard to believe it was same road Mum used to learn driving in 2003/2004. The main roads were abandoned and could used 25-35min journeying from Oreyo to Igbe junction or Igbogbo, which used to less than 5mins when we were young, the communities and estate around tried their best but were overwhelmed. If you washed car before leaving home, by the time you got to Igbe junction or Igbogbo, you'd think they poured mud on our cars. Community members used Newspapers, radio and Tv to appeal to govt, yet nothing was done. I finally left home 2017 but Ambode stared work on that road then Sanwo took over. I was joyous as I drove from Igbe Junction to Odubala Estate to see my people last year October under 5mins with development everywhere. If not for say na my hood, I lost finish. I'm happy for them.

No matter what, don't buy a naija used car if you don't know the owner personally.
If you must buy a naija used, then avoid any dealer/agent with any of the following lines "clean title, nothing to fix, used by a woman/banker, barely driven, ** months used etc". If possible, buy only from direct owner and be very certain of why he's selling.
Also, avoid random mechanics. It's easy for them to get induced by the seller just to offload the junk to you. Shitty mechanics full this Nairaland too, it's not only by scanner.

With the cost implications of getting a replacement, I doubt anyone whose car isn't giving him problem will want to sell except if they're traveling out, or financially distressed or not very likely, an upgrade. Imagine someone who got a sound toks 2005 camry at 1.8m in 2021 who has maintained it well till date and the car is still sound. If he sells it even at 2.5m today, 2.5m can't get another toks 2005 camry today, whether sound or not. If he adds 2m to it to make it 4.5m, he'll sweat to get a toks muscle that will give him the kind peace his 2005 camry dey give him. So, nobody go tell him to be using his 2m to be drinking yogurt while cruising his peaceful 2005 camry jejely

Strive and aim for a toks with a detailed usage history from d country of origin.

You see the analysis you gave about selling cars to upgrade is what I'm currently experiencing. Naija don spoil. Got a 2001/2002 Corolla acquired in 2019 for 800k from a friend, that car never spent 2 years on naija soil when I got it, so I can say I bought a Tokunbo car but registered. Fast-forward to 2023, put the car up on Jiji at 1.6m and got cool offer of 1.2-1.3m but had to bring down the advert this evening cos the 05/06 Matrix or Vibe I intend buying were above 2.3m for the grade and standard I want ( can't buy any above 3years used on naija soil). My Corolla is so clean and gave me rest of mind for the entire 4years I've used it. No disappointment whatsoever from that car that I began using it as prayer point for my next car. With the way it is, I better use that over 1m on other projects than car upgrade. The car don tire me but then naija is happening to everyone oo. Got another 1.4m offer after bringing down the ads this evening sef. It's sad, to get Tokunbo grade naija used Corolla, Big daddy and Matrix (all 03-06) you'll be needing over 2.4m at the moment. Make I dey use my Corolla dey go jeje. The peace of mind the car is giving me ehn... I've not seen my mechanic this year, na March ending I go service am again. Na only service dey carry me go mechanic workshop.

Where did you get this from there's nothing like that in the public service rules. You either retire spending the mandatory 35years in service (if you got the job early) or retire once you attain the age of 60.
Those that retires at 65 are teachers (recently approved) and tertiary institution workers while Professors retires at 70. I think Judges too retires at 70.

Don't compare microfinance bank interest rate to government agric interest loan. Whatever form of loan you get from MFB can never be compared with govt loans. Dem no bi same sir. MFB interest is killing. Government agric loans are given moratorium of 6months or more. Majority of those that got the Nirsal loans haven't started paying sef, that's if they'll even pay. I prefer thrift to any Bank loan sef.

I like your submission. Things are really expensive now mehn. 1 Titus fish is over 1k and will be cut max into 4 pieces, sometimes 3 pieces sef. If he's to eat 3 meals daily, he'll be spending 30k monthly on fish alone, meat and chicken are even way expensive, you'll buy grains, beverages alone fit gulp 10k (Milo, coffee and milk), buy cereals, provisions (peanut butter, toothpaste, groundnut/cashew nut, cashewnut na 2k-2.5k and I fit finish 1 bottle within 3days, other provisions wey u go buy still dey). 6kg gas monthly is within 5-5.5k, what I do if fill 12.5kg for 9300 and use for 2months plus, a bag of pure water is 250-300 and can be finished within 2-3days. The truth is if we're to eat well, that 100k na just manage for a month, though you'll still have some food stuff spill over to the next month. I avoid beef now cos of the cost, too expensive. 3k beef no go pass 10 piece if dem cut am moderately, not big like party own oo . what I do is buy broiler and slaughter whenever fish don tire me. OP come dey stay Abuja join. Imagine op eating outside, he'd even spend more.
Feeding well is relative thou, so make everybody chop according to their pocket jare.

Good analysis but practically you can't make 1m monthly from 500 layers. Even without removing their feeding cost, it's still not practicable now consider the feeding which gulps about 60-70% of running cost and see what's left.

Good for you (maybe cos na righty and probably manual drive) got my 2001/2002 Corolla, naija used for 800k June 2019, was cleared from port according to the custom documents around Nov 2017, so it was less than 2years used in naija. It was sold at that price based on the relationship between myself and the seller (area brother shit). Other used neat ones I saw were close to 1m sef, was almost picking one up at Ibadan for 920k while Tokunbo was sold around 1.2-1.3m, almost same range with 1998-2001 camry. That car is almost 2m if not over today sef.
