I need to buy even more wood to do pillars and lintel for my small BQ but in 3 weeks I'm sure that I'll buy even more wood to frame the german floor of the main house.

My calculations for 80 X 50 feet external and 35 X 15 feet internal is 30 pieces. Surely after the german floor mayhem, I should be able to find some of that 30 pieces plus the previous forest that I previously purchased that I can use to do the lintel and pillar on the BQ.

Sounds good?

If so what type of wood should I source?

Thanks.
Buy "Odogbo" type.
*Its still a "white wood" but it is stronger
*You can use it three times over (unlike others that you can only use once), Foundation, Pillars/Lintel and Decking
*It is still the same price as the others

I bought 180 pieces, used it and re-sold some of it to those who sold it to me (though at half price) as "tokunboh". grin

Parallel market price is affecting illicit business men, criminals in short!

if your Business is GENUINE, you will be very happy now, cos you can fill your Form-M and then collect your Dollars from the CBN at #199.

I understand that part of the Naira depreciation is speculative/artificial. But N200/$ is unrealistic right now, else CBN would provide enough $$ to meet demand at that price.

Politics › Re: President Buhari To Drop Lai Mohammad As Information Minister - TheImpulseNG by lastpage:
Reliable source from the Nigerian presidency had it that Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will under take minor cabinet reshuffle , three months after the appointment of cabinet ministers. TheImpulseNG.com gathered that the current minister of Information, Culture and Tourism; Alhaji Lia Mohammed will be eased out due to complaints from Senior members of All Progressive Congress (APC), and members of President Buhari’s kitchen cabinet over what they termed Lia’s unprofessional information management. Social media had singled Nigeria Information Manager for constant attack and object of ridicule, as he is being daily and widely dubbed as a liar, which is not good to the image of the government locally and internationally.

Party members also are no more happy about the classification of the government spokesman as a liar, putting a lot of premium on the integrity of government. The idea to move him to another ministry where his voice will not be regularly heard is contemplated. Dr Kayode Feyemi who is current minister of Solid Minerals is speculated to take over the information ministry. He was regarded in APC circles as being very suave, likeable and diplomatic person whose amiable nature is expected to resonate with the public as well as the media.

First, The ImpulseNG.com IS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR WHAT CAN BE CALLED "A RELIABLE SOURCE" for any worthwhile story
.
This is a website whose owners cannot place their name on their website, in essence, it is an anonymous website registered by a disgruntled Nigerian, with the domain name registered by a fake company pdr Ltd! (it refuses to make its Company registration details available!) and hosted on cloudfare, in the United States!!
It was recently registered (September 22, 2015) and the domain registration was for SIX MONTHS ONLY! shocked shocked

Click the below, and see for yourself:
http://websitepart.com/www/theimpulseng.com

So, only a foolish person will take this information seriously.

Having said that, l find it "curious" but not so "coincidental" that those "masturb.ating" over this matter of Lai Muhammed's replacement, are our brothers from the "Red Soil" part Nigeria!
grin grin
Not surprised at that, check the previous post of these people and you will realize that Alhj Lai Mohammed has been giving them nightmares since the days when APC was in opposition! grin grin
Let me also remind us that Lai Mohammed had single handedly, brought down the #PDPHouse of Hunger, by his incisive and articulate "vibrations" in the media........so, why wont they be jubilating and mastur.bating over a fake news purporting to remove him from office? huh

Alhj lai Mohammed is "made-in-heaven".... for information dissemination......... we all saw how he finished FFK and even Olisah metuh, in a debate, just before the Presidential elections. tongue

Now, l am not surprised that the hateful, anger-infested "five-percenters" want him removed, but they are what they are, ...... an irrelevant 5%! grin

President Buahri is a suave, wise old man with loads of experience and we all saw these reflected in his choice of Cabinet members, appointments and decisions, in the last seven months. Thus, l am doubly-sure that the President will never fall for the trick of these irrelevant, 5% WAILERS who by the way, say worse things about the President himself.

No one in his or her right mind will therefore, use these "children of Anger and Hate", as a yardstick for judging public opinion
since they are committed to "#Whining, #Wailing and #Whimpering" for the next Seven years of Buhari's leadership.

That is their own God-given dividend of democracy....... to anguish for the next seven years! grin grin
May Crying, Wailing and Anguishing never depart from their household, till Buhari's tenor is over (Amen)
wink wink

As for that fake website called ImpulseNG, Google rates them as making an average of $102 a year! That is their worth, #48,000 per year

For the avoidance of doubt, Alhj Lai Mohammed remains Nigeria's indefatigable Minister of Information, meritoriously serving the nation and Mr. President while "debunking and removing the rug from under the feet" of the #Wailers and #five-percenters, ...since 1967. undecided undecided

Bukola Saraki and his goons are "fighting for survival"!
The only reason they all want to be Senators, in the first place, is because of the level of corruption that goes on in that supposedly hallowed chambers.
It's not like they like to "make laws" ..... or how many have they made since 1999? grin
They killed, lobbied, did rituals with human beings, sold houses, connived and conspired...... just to become Senators.

All of a sudden, we have this Dongo, funky-Old-Mallam called Buhari, insisting that TSA should be implemented at all levels of governance, thereby dealing a death blow to their usual corrupt ways like allocating any amount to themselves, not returning unspent budgeted funds, kick-backs and fronts, e.t.c ......... and you think they will just keep civil and accept it without a dirty fight?

Just wait a few weeks more, the real roforofo fight is just about to start between the Senate and the Presidency/Nigerians.
When they can no longer blackmail him with the Budget-passing, ..and Saraki's CCT trial swings into gear, then you will see that "a dying man, is a dangerous man"!

Corruption will fight back, and very dirty. Even Buhari knows that and has said so.
Whether Nigerians will "recognize it" as what is it, or pretend they dont (as our brothers like to do), is another kettle of fish.

The Nigerian Senate has terminated the contract of System Specs Ltd, the company responsible for the REMITA platform for the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The Senate also called for the prosecution of the ‘culprits’ involved in the contract.

The report on the abuse and mismanagement of the TSA was read on the floor of the senate by Senator John Owan Enoh representing Cross River Central who headed the committee that probed the contract.

The recommendations one and two of the report on Abuse & Mismanagement of TSA was amended by the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and Sen. Dino Melaye, who added to the 2nd recommendation that the culprits in the contracts should be identified and & prosecuted.

The senate passed all ten recommendations of the report on Mismanagement of TSA including those amended and one additional recommendation have been passed.

The additional recommendation on TSA report reads: Excess payment made outside what was officially fixed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should be refunded.

secondly you goofed when you eventually resumed office. you should not have begged him. there is a difference between apologizing and begging. i am sure you your countenance and disposition portrayed fear and that you were absolutely sorry and scared of losing your job, which gave you away. you don't show fear to such people, you show strength, confidence yet remorse. this would have made him think twice before assaulting. but because he saw you apologizing probably almost kneeling he knew you were scared of losing your job and scared of him too as your boss so he attacked you. i am not saying all this to make you see me as a bigger man, i just want you to know when dealing with a bully you don't show fear.

in any case i commend your patience and hope you deal with him severely because it is becoming routine for these Indians and Lebanese who are way below us Nigerian.

One wonders if this was not a deliberate attempt to FORCE the Govt into re-absolving DSS operatives for the Presidential Protection Details?
Reading the story, one can easily see the "slant" is just all about "embarrassing the President into reversing his decision to do away with the DSS, for that job"!

But l think the President has his reasons, for insisting that he wants his protective detail to be "Soldiers"....... judging by the atrocities of the DSS under that woman, Marilyn Orgar or whatever is her name!

If and when such security bodies like the DSS decides to turn themselves into "Political Tools" of a ruling (Ex)President, then they have lost their focus and bearing and cannot be trusted one hundred percent. I hope the good ones amongst them expose the rotten one

I also know that a lot of Political Criminals (running into their millions!) who have embezzled our treasury, can go to any length to infiltrate an already compromised DSS, to do harm to President Buhari and thereby thwart all efforts to curb corruption in this country.

Since we are all aware that we are experts at exploiting ourselves, there should be a tighter control on monetary policies to regulate the system, so that we don't play into the hands of the same Nigerians who will seize every opportunity to exploit the situation to his favor. Or, does it even favor him? He is at the receiving end of things, losing every dime he earned by his hike to the pure water seller, the taxi driver, the meat seller and the almighty PHCN who will lay an ambush and collect his proceeds from his hike in prices. Or do you think he has a choice other than to increase his prices to keep pace with others?

Did I hear you advocate any type of price control in this type of economy? Well, since we are in the property sector, I will give you a sample analysis of how it will will make the same landlords richer seven fold.

A man withdraws his life savings and buys a land in the bush, sand-fills the road so he can drive in, build his own culvert and gutters, draws his own electric poles and wires from the nearest source, sinks his own borehole for water, provides his own security men to guard his materials, incurs exploitative transport costs moving materials to site, paying omo onile or Ogbo-na-eche-agu as the case may be, paying several community development levies, paying approval fees from at least 2 tiers of government, plus other ministries and hidden charges, but against all odds, he miraculously completes his 6 flats of 3 bedrooms, halleluya somebody! grin grin

And then just as he moves to collect his rents, a government order announces some price control, telling him how much he can rent those flats! Haba, I didnt hear them control the cement and rod sellers, the town unions and omo oniles, nobody ordered anyone to build his roads or culverts, but price control will aim to control his rents? cheesy

The effect of this is that the government must understand that investors are sacred, since they own their investment money, you cannot dictate to them. Before any type of price control, there should be a review of how people invest, and an attempt made to help them. If we force landlords and control prices for instance, they will simply refuse to build more houses since nobody likes to do a business if there will be no profits. Then the worst happens, landlords will move their funds somewhere else, and then, scarcity of houses! And scarcity has a way of forcing same prices up, if my elementary economics is right.

People will be paying behind the back of the government to get houses at "black market prices", and landlords will be laughing to the banks grin grin grin
You are right on the things you wrote.
One of the "reasons" we have a Government, is to "act as an unbiased control" using its Civil servants and law enforcers.
A lot of things are WRONG in the Nigerian system.
The decay is "systemic", as in, it started a long time ago and it is "deep seated".

Even more worrisome, is the fact that Govt policies negates what the Govt essentially tries to achieve.

Using your example, Housing:
It is the duty of Govt to provide all those things you mentioned, once a land has been given Building Approval but here in Nigeria, Govt will abdicate its won responsibility!
Govt, by its ever increasing "dues and levies", have actually made building houses a very difficult task, less attractive.... and very costly too!

Citizens as well, will take a cue from Govt (seeing the body language of those in power) and EXPLOIT the situation!
if that Landlord has spent all that money to build his block of flats, there is a PERIOD for him to recoup his investment (ROI).
fact is, he cannot expect to get his investment back in the first three to five years but he has to spread it over say like thirty years, after that, it is profit.
But that Nigerian Landlord will want it back, everything within the first three years!
Even after that, he will keep citing "Dollar nii" as an excuse to increase the rent every year, like he just finished the building yesterday!
This is where "exploitation" sets in..... and Govt needs to step-in by saying: Hold Chief, over thirty years, your rent should not be more than x-amount, for you to recoup your investment, with a 30% profit margin!

We must also bear in mind that there are unfortunate Nigerians who are Salary earners, must rent a house while there salary hardly appreciates by 10% every five years! Such people cannot be left at the mercy of "speculative landlords"!

But like l said, if Govt wants to set-in, it does not need to introduce arbitrary controls, all the time.
Govt can control price by building Low cost houses for such people to rent, ...at "govt prices".
At that point, the law of Demand and Supply will set an Equilibrium price that is acceptable to all involved.

Bottom line is the "Nigerian System" has failed everyone and until we all resolve to make it work, be our brother's keeper and be less Greedy/exploitative, we are all in for a "long thing", as they say.

Daalu.
