Meanwhile viee, i used to attend st. mary's catholic church isolo for almost 20 something years before i moved from isolo. I was there when it was just like all those jakande schools buildings around the 80's to the imposing edifice it is now. Once in a while i go there but funny enough for the last 10 years i have been shuffling between st. mary's and holy family festac every newyear midnight mass to start the newyear in the favour of God's eyes. Last year was st. mary but maybe this year is holy family cos i also grew up in festac. Maybe you can convince me to come back to st. mary this year for the midnight mass, lol, Would also be a good chance to finally hook up with someone on nairaland for a change face to face.

Aston villa game was a warning signal we all failed to heed. Basically arsenal is built on creative players and the sheer lack of any of these players we saw tonight not remotely attempting to fill in that role, says a lot about how this season might end up. 2 seasons ago, we had problems in the defence and luckily for us we got to the champions league final and struggled for 4th place, last season, it was a striking problem that led to our disasterous campaign. Now half way the season, the midfield we all so conviently boasted of at the start of the season that was too saturated is now totally bare. I can't forsee a hudini miracle against middlesbourough if they play the way villa and newcastle has played so far. To sum it up, this is my ratings for this match and i hope it's just a kneejerk reaction at this moment because am flaming mad at our performance tonight. I have waited 3 months for us to play this outstanding game and it almost resulted in minus 3 points instead of a beautiful 6 point gap.

Almunia 7 ( Did really well despite all the bombardment of crosses and he handled them maturely. The highlight of the match for me was whenever he cleared the ball he looked so calm, compared to that mad german. Goal wasnt his fault although he was a little slow to react to it. But all in all after the goal, he looked composed under pressure.)

Sagna 8 ( Obviously the signing of the season. 2 games in a row ( villa and Nu) the opposition decided to test his wing for 90 minutes and he withstood the test. His headings are a beauty to watch and he is a stumbling block for the opposition. Just a shame Eboue didnt give him much cover when he's one on one with these skillful wingers who try to torment him all day, but a very good game for me, ( the diving was unecessary though), lol

Toure 6 ( Looked shaky at times and was rattled by the ref and alan smith all night. did well to block and shrug off some attacks directed at him but his heading were piss-poor and those long balls of his didnt help matters for the midfielders. He should know by now that we play better when the ball is on the ground.

Gallas 6 ( With all the fumblings of todays game, he did ok but failed to assert himself today by showing that winning mentality that he imbibes in the team. May be he was let down too by the performances of the other players but a good game too. His heading s are just like toure)

Clichy 5 ( despite being on holidays for much of the game, he looked awful going up front and a little bit slack in his defending. Thank God we were saved by his refusal to make any of those awful crosses which has become his trademark unless he would have capped a miserable night for the team)

Gilberto 3 ( Where do i start? No comment! He keeps on justifying wenger's reason for dropping him on the bench. Dont know where that winning mentality of his went! but this season, he has been terrible and he contributed to the porous midfield that NU dominated. He can't pass well, trap the ball well, although to be fair on him, his headings were much better than the rest but everyother thing was a faux pas. Going up front was a misnormer for him and he allowed the central midfield to collapse finally. What a shame. From our best player last season to the worst now. )

Diarra 6 ( Although i am impressed with his work rate, his incessant dribblings costed us a lot of undeserved turn overs. Those dribblings weren't totally necessary and his final third passes were not just it. He tried to play the cesc role but got caught up a million times in the hands of joey barton and butt. He needs a better partner for him to blossom there or he should go back to challenging sagna for the right back role)

Eboue 5 ( Apart from the cross that led to the goal, he was largely anonymous through out the game and didnt assert himself at the right wing thereby giving Nzogbia the courage to come out and attack. Although he saved a goal from the line, he ought to have helped out sagna more often when he realised the bombardment was coming more from his wing. He really needs to step up as an attacking threat if we are going to mount a title challenge)

Rosiscky 4 ( Everyday he says his prefered role is in the middle. He had the chance of a life time to prove doubting thomases wrong but he floundered it. His passes were poor, he failed to assert himself both in the middle, on the left and up front. If the Newcastle players knew we had a maestro performing down the middle, they wont have had the courage to step up their game. He blew it big time. First half he was largely anonymous, second half he stepped up his prescence but faded away in the final third again. To me he has been arsenal's most underachieving player all season despite wengers faith in him to play all matches when fit. It's really sad that he has to remind arsenal fans of hleb's and cesc's absence. Cant he play without those 2?)

Eduardo ( Ungraded) I refuse to be critical of him because i know he wasnt playing his prefered role up front. Anybody blaming him isnt been fair to him. He still doesnt realise that he's no longer in croatia but he's in a league where you have to think faster than the ball. Although he had a howler that led to the goal, his defending isnt his best forte and i believe wenger is just using him there to train him to be tougher and get more defensive minded before throwing in in the attack. He did it for all new comers, pires, hleb, overmars, reyes! So this is his baptismal phase. By April next year, i bet he's going to understand the workings of it.

Ade , hmm what do i give him 10/10 for the ball control and goal 5/10 for total play. ( Apart from the goal, he showed how unintelligent he can be atimes. The hight light of his imbecility was when roscisky was bursting out towards the newcastle defence and was just waiting for Ade to come back deep to avoid the offside trap and instead, this lump of wood kept on keeping himself offside and had the audacity to blame rosicsky for not passing the ball to him His lack of decisions atimes, cost us this match and when he thinks he's the closest thing to henry on the field, we know we have a big problem. While he can be a troublesome attacker to the opposing defenders and has a high work rate, his finishing leaves a lot to be desired and the clamour for Van Persie's return couldnt be any much louder. The excuse that he's is a lone striker up front without any help is so yesterday because since the manu game, he has been playing that role and he should have gained a brain or 2 on how to utilize such formations to his advantage)

Bendtner 6 ( Played for just less than 20 minutes but his entrance breathed a new fresh air of life upfront. He's very good with his headers and unlike Ade, he actually wins all his headers and actually heads to a team mate. Just a shame he didnt come earlier on because he has a nice flow of holding up the up and creating that space to score)

Wenger 1 ( although i hate to critize the best manager in the world to me but not at least having denilson on the bench was a very bad move especially after seeing the close shave we had at Villa without a midfield maestro after Hleb's exit. Also walcott could have had a run in this game. The Newcastle defence are famed for their sluggishness and walcott could have used his pace to have run them ragged.

All in all contrary to what people say that 4 points is better than none, i believe, we are gradually shooting ourselves in the foot if we don't gain these maximum points now because Manu are hot on our heels and we are giving chelsea a glimmer of hope that they could also be title contenders. Something has to be done about that midfield before boro unless we might be looking at a bleak christmas for arsenal fans world wide.

P:S Although fran merida is still young, isnt he ripe enough to slot into that role during these horrid period of no attacking midfielder? During the Under-17 tournament, i thought he slotted in to that role perfectly for spain and provided alot of goals for bojan. And you base your arguments surrounding what you percieve as wrong amongst these 2 issues and lump every catholic to either be slaves of the pope or bureaucrats of the Vatican.

Most of your links all come from canonized versions of the previous or present popes or mishaps of the evil deeds of the vatican years back.

1. The name Catholics or Roman catholics

2. The popes or previous popes and all ( or some ) of their comments, actions and decisions

3. The prescence of the vatican in worldly affairs or the fact that it even exists

Who levied the tobacco companies with multiple taxes to prevent them from selling it to every tom dick and harry?

Who placed a national wide ban on the advertising of tobacco in all media mediums?

Who forced the tobacco companies to place a warning on the side labels and state it's for only 18+

who are the retailers that buy it from the tobacco companies? Are they under age people or adults?

Who sells cigarettes more in Naija? Isn ti the mallams that make their money from the sale of these cigarettes and what's their own whether a 7 year old or 77 year old man wants to smoke. 3. Your not God and not my saviour. So your quotations and references from google and wikipedia insulting the Rcc are just rantings of an ant to me. Instead of you thinking of how you would save your self and Go to heaven, your taking panadol on another person's headache as if we begged you.

4. The best one is that, the Rcc has always held Mary in high esteem for centuries despite all the protests of your seniors and elders in the struggle right from the lutherians to the calvinists down to you and after your dead and gone, the Rcc would still stand taller than all of you and your dead freedom anti-catholic fighters. So why struggle to fight a feeble battle when you know that it is obvious you cant win? Your rantings will always be ignored and dismissed with a wave of the hand and if you like rant till your 120 years and train your children to take over your battles. It wont change anything.

Maybe you guys are so sad about your membership not exceeding a certain few thousands and when you look next door at catholics, they surpass the billion man mark and your not even close to surpassing the congregation of a state in the north sef.

Maybe it hurts so much that despite the fact that we dont proclaim miracles as part of our doctrines, you dont see anything good in it because you need that phoney sense of security that the moon will change colour or that the cripples in sabo would begin to do the moon walk.

Or maybe the highlight of a regular catholic church isnt the casting away of weekly demons that possesses only protestants on sundays. This must really piss of non catholics because i'll pay top naira to watch this reality t.v series in your church. I know it's too boring for you to just sit and listen to the gospel without any side ways comedy or action sequel.

If they havent been discovered by a producer and a financier came along to back them up and provide all the neccessary support for them to be famous, would you have been talking about them today? Now if your talking about blu3 as good r'n'b artists and better than most of the r'n'b artists in Nigeria, are they better than femi kuti and lagbaja who sing high- life Jazz? Does D'banj sing soul or R'n'b? Does ikechukwu, ruggedman and modenine, sing hard core rap about the issues of brooklyn, compton and the oppression of the blackman in America? Dont they lace it with our own home grown language and pidgin to make it look more home grown? How does Faze's kolomental song have anything to do with comparing it with blu3 or freshly grounded?

Because Nigeria's music is witnessing a revolution and we are churning out more super stars artists than the rest of Africa. Secondly, you can't conquer the world until you conquer your environment. Nigerians and some african countries are beginning to pay close attention to Nigerian music now and the first step to world dominance is through your continent. I Purposely did not say the world because, i know and respect the fact that Nigerian music has to contend with stiff opposition from india, south america, europe and more especially America. So it's better being a king in your own house than you being just a passerby on the road.

Thirdly as it relates to why you asked why Nigerian music must stand out from other countries, you should also ask your self this, when Awilo, koffi and loads of French speaking african musicians were ruling the airwaves in Nigeria and other African countries, what were they trying to do? werent they trying to dominate the African music scene? Weren't Nigerians paying top naira to go and watch their concerts in TBS or national stadium and their c.d's were selling like hot cake? How many Nigerian musicans did we have then to challenge this african dominance by these ivorians or congolese musicians? How many Nigerian artists could boast of winning internationally recognized awards in music apart from these french speaking Africans? When south African musicians were being publicized during the apartheid era such as luky dube, mariam makeba and the rest, who was helping Nigerian musicians publicize them and bring them the recognition they needed? When cable t.v first came to nigeria and we were watching Bop tv from south Africa, all their musical contents were hell bent on promoting south African content alone and despite the fact that more Nigerians watched Bop tv than the average south african, they never for once showed a Nigerian musical act through out their reign until they were scrapped off the airwaves. Did the french speaking or south African government ever vote money in their budget to promote Nigerian music or did everything possible to colonize the music industry in their favour? Now that Nigerians are taking their chances and making the country proud, we are publicing them and making all the noise we can make about these musicians for attention to shift to Nigerian and you are angry that "why must naija music stand out from other african music".

Am a patriot and i'll remain so for my Nigerian musical brothers and singers because no Angolan, Malawian, senegalese or morrocan is going to enjoy t.y bello's " greenland" as much as me and it's my duty to encourage her and people like her to do better and conquer the industry so as to bring National pride and honour. So if you support blu3, that's your business not mine and for everytime you call a freshly grounded , i'll point to 3 other Nigerian musicians that i can pick from nigezie, soundcity and music Africa to counter your claim.

hey guys, can anybody tell me whether there is a database of nigerian artists and their labels somewhere on the internet or better still if you know any musician and what label they are affiliated to and their addresses. Am trying to gather a free compilation of Nigerian musicians alphabetically and their labels so as to provide easy access for future talents and organizations that would need the services of these artists both famous and upcoming. ( More like a yellow page for artists and labels)

The music industry in Nigeria is exploding and we have to appreciate what they are doing and stick it into the faces of the americans and europeans that what they can do, we can go even better once we have the right exposure and materials at our disposal.

So please guys let's help our stars out by providing this much needed database. I was discussing with an American music producer online and he told me that, he actually thought 2 face was from south africa and he doesnt believe Nigeria has more than 5 or 6 averagely known artists in the U.S apart from fela and he erroneously quoted angela kidjo as a nigerian. We browsed for nigerian artists and labels online and only came up with 2 or 3 musicians on wikipedia.

Nobody is going to provide this much needed noise to the world except ourselves so people let's try and help each other out. Much luv people and greatly appreciated.

Artists and labels are also welcome to promote their works and addresses on this thread. You never can tell. The people in Arista records or Def Jam might be looking for a fresh new talent to showcase. There is no harm trying!

I will attempt to bring out issues from your posts for you to see things in another perspective;

Firstly you talk of an allegiance. Is it a crime to pledge allegiance to something you believe in and trust? Just the way various protestant churches pay allegiance to their churches and pastors which i have no qualms with, why single out the Rcc alone as a set of people paying allegiance to the church? I guess you do attend a church and your proud of your church and what it teaches you. Isnt that a form of allegiance to that church? Why dont you shift churches
every sunday just because you want to hear the word of God?

The best thing that can happen is to make it conform with mordern times and expunge some parts which contemporary thoughts will assume to be repugnant. The whole issue of praying to mary and worshipping it could be interpreted by millions of people to mean a million different things but to say i as a person go to the rcc to pray to mary all day is not true.

Besides the history of protestant churches shows that there has been a major paragrim shift from the modus operandi from the days of the lutherians and the calvinist to mordern day benny hinn or oyakhilome and in the next 20 years, new things will evolve and things that dont conform with the teachings in protestant churches will give way too. The way the catholic church was 300 years ago or so, is not the same way it is being practiced in a lowly catholic church somewhere in idumota or in saotome. When you keep on lumping the activities of the past churches and present times worship, your making a grave error. The only constant thing is change from the doctrine but not a change from the word of God.

When somebody tried to champion a cause for the Catholic Church to return to the scriptures – I assume you are aware with the theme of the reformation; “sola scriptura” – he was excommunicated, because the RCC does not accept that the scriptures are the sole basis for doctrine. Thus, you can see that there is a core issue that makes one stand apart and say; ‘come out of this organization’. The foundation of the Word is the only foundation given to man to build on – any other foundation is faulty; and if the foundations are destroyed . . . .
So when you say "hear the Word of God" i have to say; "which Word of God" - the RCC version? the adulterated version? which?

Trust me my friend, the word of God is just one and it says there is a GOD, his only begotten son called Jesus christ and his mother was mary. Now i dont see any thing adulterated from what i just recited that is probably different from what is in your own bible. Whether you call it the kings james version or the rcc missal or whatever, it's just a book and remains a book until you commit the scriptures to your heart and act accordingly. Does the so called adulterated bible of the Rcc promote murders, lies, cheating and what ever have you? You might say at this junction that the vatican promoted the killing of this in 1533 or 1750 or so, but it's just the work of humans not the word of God. So please make a strong distinction between which bible is better than the other. They are just bloody books hanging on the shelves until you commit it to your heart and pray to God to help you understand his teachings so as to recieve his blessings.

As for the sola scriptura, i dont pretend to be an Rcc theologian and until i came to this site, i have never heard of it in its latin term but i have heard of the word excommunicated especially from the catholic church. While i am not ashamed to say i dont know the reasons or why certain people were excommunicated or the defences of the Rcc for excommunicated, it has nothing to do with me being a catholic. The politics of a church should be divorced from what the congregation expects when ever they attend service. Every church plays its own personal politics on how the church should be run and who the potential leaders should be or what doctrine the foundation of the church should be laid on, but i am speaking for the over 75% illiterate non interested political members of the Rcc like me and if you have a grouse with the key political actors in the Rcc, then you should take it up with them. All am interested in is going to mass tomorrow to listen to God's words, sing and praise his name and give thanks giving for making me see another day and his numerous blessings. the rest of all these other things dont matter to me and loads of other Rcc faithfuls.

Sorry! You dont know because you havent taken a detail sample of all catholics in the world to come to your conclusion. Maybe you have seen pockets of people interprete the bible in a form inconsistent with you and that's where you have based your decision. I would not hurriedly say you dont read your bible because i havent seen you do that before and just judge everyone in your church or prayer group as ppl who dont read their bibles. This is totally wrong and it's this kind of statements we should guard against. Dont prejudge people because your not God. As i said earlier, the bible is just a bloody book sitting on the shelve until you pray God gives you the grace to understand and assimilate it. So, merely making such professions and having wishes to go to heaven is not enough – Jesus clearly said the road is narrow, and the onus is on one to “examine himself to see if he is in the faith” (1Cor 13; 5). It is very clear that the RCC doctrines on as core an issue as salvation is markedly different from what the bible teaches. Furthermore, that said, one has to “continue in him” (Col 2: 5-6) – so even if one started on the right path and you suddenly discovered that you’ve strayed, one need to retrace his steps

I have only one question to ask here. With your total belief that your exposed to the word of God and highly intellectual in it, what are the chances of you making heaven before the iya alata or baba eleran who goes to church to serve God whether in the Rcc or aladura church? In as much as you can quote certain parts of the scriptures to buttress your point, doesnt that also make you a proffessor of faith? because apart from your constant criticism, you havent shown me anything apart from the word of God which you so loving like to remind us that your well versed in. but Jesus never got married and he's was the happiest person on earth and he's still the happiest person in heaven

besides, the bible is filled with loads and loads of single prophets that didnt get married e.g the disciples, paul, and a host of old testament prophets. Can you imagine the peace of mind they had without women or marriage hassles? And the best of all, they were God's chosen people and they are in heaven right now.

I can't imagine the the number of married people who are in hell right now because of the beatings of their wives, cheatings, naggings, jealousy and a host of others. Being single is the bomb and you don't have to worry about one women sitting on your neck all day giving you hassles foolishly.

Just the way women have used me in the past. All of a sudden, women have grown a conscience when they are growing old and their peers are mocking them for being single, then they want to attach themselves to any man willing to give them that coverted ring they crave for so desperately.

Answer me why when women are probably in college or just finished school, the shakara mentality is in them to use men and dump them as long as one aristo is going to show to fulfill their needs. The boy they are dating is probably hoping that his babe will change her mind and love him back likewise despite all the love and affection he has shown to her, but no, she has to sample the field.

Men are wiser now and can now play the game too. All we have to do is pretend we love you and sleep with you and run away too just the way women take joy in doing likewise. Ask most of the girls in unilag to osu to unimaid, whether they would like to get married to their present boyfriends now? The answer would be a resounding no or am not sure.

When they are in their late 20's or early 30's , women begin to become frantic in search for that elusive husband and they forget all the countless dumpings, the numerous abortions they have had and their unending shakara for men then and they are now wiling to settle down with even the ugliest man on the planet even though they wont have glanced at him 2 wice when they were younger.

Solution: meet someone, have the best sex while it lasts, enjoy the honey moon period that shouldnt exceed 6 months and move on, life is too short, play more and protect yourself. Now that's is what i call a fulfilling relationship. I should know cos it has been working for me for quite a while now and am on cloud nine with this kind of arrangement. Besides, 85% of catholics dont even know what your talking about the past speeches of the popes dead and present and the politics of the vatican. They are just interested in the masses they attend and the thanksgiving at the end. So much of these intellectual speeches about the rcc, doesnt really hold water in a typical african catholic church. Just the way an american protestant church has it's ways and dealings of it's church, is totally different from the way african protestant ministers operate. The key word amongst both churches is that, they believe in God and christ is our saviour and we all want to go to heaven. They mode and manner we all achieve our final aspiration using the bible as a footnote is left to each individual to pursue.

All these criticisms against the rcc is just over the top and mind you, we are all learning and sharing experiences about the best mode and manner to seek eternal life, be it the buddists, muslims, tibetan monks, protestants or rcc faithfuls. The pope is just human like everyone else and the chances of you making heaven before him is known to only God. So let's shealth our swords and spread the gospel and stop picking on fellow christians. It's this kind of put down syndrome that people of other faiths poke and make fun of christianity as not being a united front.

While you might go on about the excesses of the rcc and it's flagrant abuse of history and cover ups and pointing accusing fingers at everything catholic, remember your also doing the same thing that you aborh so much about the catholic church by also propagating and castigating another religious organization. 2 wrongs dont make a right and health discuss shouldnt be confused with mock me down syndrome.
