At least 700 years before the arrival of the Lord Jesus Christ, God incarnate (John 1:1, 1:14)... prophecy foretold "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." .... from Jewish lineage (Matthew 1). Those who don't worship Him now will certainly bend the knee the later (Isaiah 45:23, Romans 14:10-12) ....... On a side note... those on this thread that summarily attribute the ignorance of one alleged "Igbo man" (don't know if he really is Igbo, don't care) to a larger group (of Igbos and/or Biafrans) epitomize ignorance! When u go yankee, jand or elsewhere, you're simply black... or something more derogatory/worse in the eyes of other human beings!!!! Let's be more tolerant of and empathetic toward each other... there is much more that unites us than divides! Peace |
Attribute it to ignorance... ironically, the KJV version's the most accurate. Regardless, and most important, God says in it... "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." Isaiah 55:11 So, no amount of misinterpretation, conscious or unconscious attempt to warp the good news will work. |
This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; ... 1 Tim 3 |
... for a number of real reasons, including that "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12 Jesus Christ the Lord of lords, and King of kings... |
Love Your Enemies - Luke 6:27-36 27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. 31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. 32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. |
The phrase is increasingly used with impunity... with what real objective or accomplishment? Definition of slay - to "kill (a person or animal) in a violent way." (Em, no thanks!) Definitions of queen - 1. "the female ruler of an independent state, especially one who inherits the position by right of birth" (noun); 2. "(of a woman) behave in an unpleasant and superior way toward" verb). (Again... no thanks, particularly when used as a verb). One can pay another a compliment more plainly without unduly exalting them, one can be self confident without self exaltation. I think it's silly, to say the least... worst case scenario, it's idolatry. Only God, the Almighty Creator should be exalted... when all's said and done, only He will. Peace & blessings. ------ "And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." - Matthew 23:12

Acts 1:11, Revelation 1:7... literally. |
"Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light. As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?"- Amos 5:18-20 It certainly is no joke for anyone who hasn't, by God's grace, obtained His mercy. ---- "Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:" - Isaiah 55:6 |
It's harmonious with every other part of holy scripture that clarifies how we are to deal with such situations... "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." - Romans 12:19 "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God." - James 1:19-21 |
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." - Acts 4:12 |
"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" - 1 Timothy 2:5 "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." - Hebrews 4:15-16 |
"And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise." - Luke 23:39-43 ---- "Judge not, that ye be not judged." - Matthew 7:1 |
Friend... (1). Continue reading the holy word of God, the Bible (even a chapter a day, book by book) - "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." - Romans 10:17 (2). "Pray without ceasing" - 1 Thess 5:17 (3).... and believe in GOD... "Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?" - Matthew 6:30 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" - Hebrews 11:6 "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." - Hebrews 13:5 Peace |

@ivolt... "Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein." -Luke 18:17 All the prophecy contained in the holy scriptures is not myth... it has historically (and continues to) come to pass. @OP - The Almighty GOD, via the Word, made the waters... "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." - John 1:3 Second, we aren't told where Cain's wife came from... should it matter? "For with God nothing shall be impossible." - Luke 1:37 |
Facts! "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." - John 14:6 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." - Acts 4:12 It isn't about labels... it's about a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ that confers pardon ("for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" - Rom 3:23)... one obtained as divine gift, not by our works. Please keep reading the holy word of God and believe. (Rom 10:17). |
No personal judgment... as only GOD is the Judge - "This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless." - 1 Timothy 3:1-10 Being honestly rich/wealthy is not a sin of itself... but the love of money is. How much does one and his family truly need? What we tend to see is the insistence of some on taking the whole pot, instead of in some moderation... and dispersing the rest to those who need. |
To corroborate OPs core message... "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God:" - Psalm 146:3-5 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." - Acts 4:12 |
No earthly person, institution or army is perfect... with that in mind, also considering our national history ('66 coup and the bloodshed that continued for years)... I commend the army's present professional stance and projected integrity with re: to "political meetings" among its officers. We should encourage them in that and more toward a more solidified "union" and peace! ---- U no go even fit sit-down chop garri if bullet dey fly |
"And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” So they answered and said, “John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.” And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one," -Luke 9:18-21 |
To support the "context" argument... the word "so", as in "so loved the world" means in this manner or in such a manner... that is, He gave His ONLY begotten Son to be the propitiation/atonement for the sins of many in the world. -------- "Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God." -James 4:4 |
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (note, "all things" ) Psalm 104:2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: (note, the heavens!) Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. (Note, the sun, the moon and the stars) |
Launcher:++++ There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.[a] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but[b] have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. -John 3:1-18 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. - Romans 10:17 |
Oluwamuyeewa:+++ Oh it exists... And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” - Matthew 19:24-26 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” - Romans 10:9-11 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. -Rom 10:17 Peace! |
"Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy." |
“Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’” -Luke 16:27-31 Moses and the prophets - as contained in the entire Holy Bible. Peace! ------ "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" - Romans 10:17 |
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe." - 1 Corinthians 1:18-21 "Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain." - 1 Corinthians 3:18-20 |
Friend... that's part of the point precisely. Some things by God's mercies we understand, but because we as human beings are very finite, despite the knowledge and position God has mercifully given us on this planet. We must, by God's grace and mercies alone, come before Him, the Great King Eternal, in humility... even per your example, as a little child, trusting his/her father implicitly... and this not a earthly father, but The Heavenly Father. "And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 18:2-4 Don't listen to me or anyone else, just please read the Holy Bible... even one chapter at a time, one book at a time. God is good. God is the only true Judge, and only God has the power to forgive sins. "But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins..." - (Matt 9:6, mark 2:10, Luke 5:24) ----- "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." - Isaiah 55:7-9 Peace! ====== TeamSimple: |
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6 ... 1 John 5:7 |
"Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me." Isaiah 45:21 We do not understand the "triune" God (1 John 5:7), so it is best we leave such things alone and focus, despite curiosity, on more pertinent matters... like mercifully obtaining grace, salvation... being accepted before Him. (Rom 10:17) ---- "Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me." Psalm 131:1 (Also Psalm 139:6). |
OP...consider that in order to show mercy, pardon and justify the many... God Himself, in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ, had to pay for our sins through personal unimaginable sacrifice. - Isaiah 53:3-5 We do not understand all things, but we know "The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy." Psalm 145:8 Thank God at all times, for all things... especially that salvation is even possible. ----- Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? - Romans 9:20 |
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. - Psalm 27:14 Yet, we should ask according to [and praying that] His perfect will, be done (James 4:3) The GOD who made and sustains all things by the word of His power hears and answers prayer! Don't only believe He can, know that He will... "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." - Heb 11:6 Peace! |
