A landlord, Olushina Dairo, has lost the use of his eyes as a result of an alleged attack by a fellow landlord, Sulaimon Badmus, over unpaid security dues in the Araromi/Mupin community, Iyana Iyesi area of Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Olushina was part of the team that was mobilised to collect security dues from residents.

It was learnt that Badmus allegedly attacked Olushina by using a manual digger to hit him on the head while he was going from house to house to collect the dues.

The Chairman, Araromi Community Development Association, Fatai Hamidu, said Olushina was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

Hamidu stated, “The issue stemmed from a communal crisis. The former chairman was impeached over alleged misappropriation of funds and this led to the division of the association into two factions. Olushina is with our faction, while the other man, who used the digger to hit him, is one of our executive members, but we did not know that he was working for the other faction.

“On the day of the incident, we were moving from house to house to collect security dues. We had not got to the front of Badmus’ house when we suddenly heard a loud cry and people shouting that someone had been killed.

“I saw that Olushina was already on the floor in a pool of his own blood. We rushed him to the nearest hospital and he was subsequently transferred to LASUTH, but he is not getting any better; he can’t see with his eyes. The first operation has been done and the doctors say another operation will be performed on him in six months.

Olushina’s wife, Deborah, who said she was not at home when the incident happened, alleged that the action of her husband’s attacker was deliberate.

The mother of three said, “I was not at home on the day of the incident. On my way back home, I heard people shouting for help. When I got home, I did not meet my children and by the time I got to where the incident took place, I saw my husband on the floor.

“I was told that someone on the street, known as ‘Onicandle’, hit my husband with a digger. They said the landlords were having a meeting and Badmus just brought out a digger to hit him and since then, we have been battling to save his life.

“We recently just moved to the area. Before we moved in, we learnt that the former chairman was impeached for alleged misappropriation of funds. We learnt that the community wanted to get electricity from a company and the former chairman was allegedly collecting money but did not do anything.

“The man who attacked my husband with the digger is one of the followers of the former chairman. The whole incident was a conspiracy and a deliberate act, because the former chairman and his gang had threatened to foment trouble so that they could have the seat back.”

The Ogun State indigene said the culprit failed to attend to the medical bills of her husband until the police came to visit Olushina at the hospital, adding that her husband needed all the help he could get to make him see again.

Deborah said, “When the incident happened, instead of the culprit and his cohorts to rally around and show concern for my husband, they hired a lawyer to bail the attacker after he was arrested by the police.

“An initial operation was carried out on my husband’s head costing N600,000. The police came to visit my husband at the hospital on the day the first operation was performed and when they saw the extent of the damage done, the case was transferred from the Ota Police Station to the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

“My husband is to undergo another surgery in six months’ time. The community was able to support but my husband has not been able to use his eyes. He needs all the assistance he can get to make him see again.”

PUNCH Metro gathered that Badmus was charged to the Ota Magistrates’ Court and remanded in the Ibara Prison, Abeokuta, while the case was adjourned till April 5, 2019.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, March 7, 2019, arraigned one [b]Oyinloye Oyetola Jubril [/b]before Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State. Gistvic Reports.

Jubril was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and document falsification.

He was arrested by operatives of the EFCC following petitions submitted to the commission early in the year.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Oyinlola Oyetola Jubril ‘m’ sometimes in the month of January 2019 or thereabout, at Ibadan, Oyo State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, you were in possession of a document in which you falsely represented yourself as a woman by name Deloise Sleele, and you sent this document containing false pretence to one Richard Nemes who resides in the United States of America, in order to obtain money from him by false pretence, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 6 and punishable under Section 8 (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.” Gistvic Reports.

He pleaded "not guilty" to the charges.

While adjourning to April 5, 2019, Justice Ajoku granted him bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum, who must not be below GL12 in the Oyo State or Federal Civil Service, and must possess landed property with Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) within Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The court also ordered that he should be remanded in prison till he meets the bail conditions. Gistvic Reports.

A Nigerian citizen who had been living in Canada was on Monday, March 4, sentenced by U.S. federal court to 10 years in prison for obstructing justice in a multi-million dollar fraud case.

[b]Michael Adefemi Adeyemo, also known as Adekunle Olufeni Adetiloye, [/b]was previously sentenced in 2012 in North Dakota to serve 17 years and six months for a multi-million dollar credit card fraud scheme involving more than 20 banks in the U.S., according to a Justice Department news release.

At the time, it was the largest credit card fraud suffered by US Bank and the Discover Card Bank in their histories.

Years after the 2012 sentencing, authorities discovered Adeyemo, 47, took steps to conceal his prior residency in the U.S. as a legal permanent resident, that he was a licensed attorney in Nigeria and that he was a fugitive with an outstanding warrant in California from 2001 for another fraud scheme.

A jury found him guilty of concealing this evidence from authorities to reduce his 2012 sentence.

Sentencing Adeyemo to 10 years in prison, District Judge Linda Reade in Iowa said Adeyemo showed a "callous disregard of the laws of the United States."

"This case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. “The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has been and will always be relentless in the pursuit of facts throughout a criminal investigation,” said Bill Hedrick, Inspector in Charge of the Denver Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, which includes North Dakota. “Postal Inspectors know this and take great pride in their search to find the truth. Through the diligence of our Inspector and others in this case, we were able to bring the defendant to face justice for the full scope of his crimes,” said Hedrick. “We appreciate the dedicated effort of all those involved in this case, including the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Forensic Lab, and agents from Homeland Security Investigations.”

In Nigeria of today, some people don't even care if a news is fake or not, as most of these news satisfy and appeals to their inherent hate and distrust for other people, they just swallow it hook, line and sinker and start propagating such unfounded information as the gospel truth. Any news against Northerners, Buhari, Muslim in general (Muslim from the North or South) is a valid and authentic news. No doubt about it.

If you even try to tell them to exercise restraint and confirm the authenticity of the news, they would band you a supporter of the bad guys/villians in the unconfirmed and doubtful story.

It's just pathetic. Some would be referencing a Facebook page or an unknown blog as the source of a sensitive news.

It's even more worrisome that some hitherto reputable organisations are now lifting news reports from some of these mushroom reporters. And the news just go on a merry-go-round.
