Konjour:dont be silly, one of the busiest waterway in the world is the strait of malacca and it is only 2.8 km at its farthest points, while the river niger , tho the bridge is about 1.5 km, the farthest points are at 4.8 km apart- not at the bridge head, but at points farther away. the onitsha seaport u see now is only a starting point. Soludo's office is planning an integrated master plan for a comprehensive integrated seaport complex to accommodation the BIGGEST, LARGEST MARKET IN BOTH NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE AFRICA, AND SOUTH OF THE EQUATOR . something big is coming to onitsha and asaba for real. |
@sam , what ware house are u talking abt ? is it the massive ware complex complex peter obi is building? has it been completed already ? |
it can sail from atlantic ocean as well, infact it is perfect for ocean vessels becos there is no taqua bay to hold the up. it is simply ferry in, off load and out the go. |
seanet02:hater, what is the definition of seaport and river port ? what ever ur definition is, u can as well say apapa port is a "same -name -u-choose-to-give-onitsha port" becos both are accessed by a canal apap via taqua bay onitsha via niger ocean . ![]() |
being fuuny. but the crane in the first photo is exactly same type available in the onitsha seaport |
In what can be regarded as the first sign of the success of government's efforts at creating inter modalism in the transport sector, inland water transportation has lifted 430 tonnes of freight off the roads in the country.http://www.leadership.ng/nga/columns/6627/2011/10/14/cheering_news_river_niger.html |

lagos greatest asset is not fashola or awololo or any other godamnit name but its position as a formal FCt of which was built into the nations commercial nerve by amongst all the SEAPORT. The relocation of nlgn no doubt will have a little effect, but what will bring lagos to its kneel wud be a deep seaport in Portharcourt or Akwa-ibom, linked to an Aba and Onitsha inland container port, and then Nnewi and Aba EPZs, that in place LAGOS will seize to exist, southwest will time-travel back to 1967 into an agrarian society, low standard of living, possibly renewal of slave trading ( trading their children- this time knowingly). Every other step in that territory will be littered with high powered concentrated juju, rituals will be the order of the day. no more igbos to abuse hence they will turn on themselves, firstly to Ijebus ( as the black sheeps), then to Abeokwuta - for overshadowing the rest. soon the awori man wud declare his true status and ethnicity. just imagine Lagos losing west-minister and all those tank farms !, yes, 78% of the contents of those tanks travel outside Lagos and SW, would it not be more judicious to transport it by a barge from portharcourt or Akwa-Ibom deep seaport to Onitsha oil tank farm, then proceed to lokoja tank farm - which wud cater for Abuja consumption , then to niger tank farm - which wud in turn cater for the north west. Onitsha wud also cater for the middle belt and the rest of the north. |

Copied from a comment on igboland forum Re: ABOKIS CHALLENGES JONATHAN'S NORTHERN IGBO VOTE « Reply #1 on: Today at 07:19:38 AM » Quote Aboki wetin they know? If Igbo population is presumed to b 50 million, of which their voting population is projected to be abt 45 million - being a young n health tribe, so if the voting population is 45 million and only 9 million was recorded in the east what does that tell your aboki brain? It means that 45- 9 million =36 million voter of Igbo extraction are outside igboland. Also, Igbos constituting the second largest tribe in every state of the federation except in Abuja n Lagos where they are unofficially projected to number and constitute well over 40 n 46 % of the populace but constitute 45 n 49 % of the voting population since Igbo residing outside igboland are mostly the young and vibrant, who re more surreptitious n courageous to vote . Note, Nigerian election is not for the faint hearted. Aka Yorubas. In fact I am of the opinion Igbo constitute over 50% of the voting population of the country and they are also strategically spread across the nation , thereby gathering enuff of the 25% bench Mark in every state except in Taraba n Berin kebbi. |

Early in the week, the president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan received a delegation from Ohaneze Ndigbo at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. The team was led by the Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and prominent in the delegation are distinguished Nigerians like the former vice president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim among many others. The central crux of the visit was of course not the main item on the agenda of this piece but as a matter of introduction, it is important to restate the necessities of the cut throat competition for access and resources in a federal setting like Nigeria. As such the visit by the Igbo leaders in my view was essential and critical. I am . . . . . (cut) Those who mattered in the country thought otherwise and went ahead and elected Jonathan for a four-year mandate. One of the issues that tested the will and capacity of the president was, apart from the double-speak on numerous issues arising from the contention over his party's zoning policy, the October 1st, 2010 bombing which was followed by the staunch disassociation of MEND, a Niger Delta terrorist group which earlier claimed responsibility for the attack, by the president. That was tactless and a sign of many things to come. After that episode, many other things happened that exposed the weakness of the president, and like his mentor Olusegun Obasanjo, one thing that has remained clear is that the president has become a matter of liability every time he speaks on sensitive national issues. At times, at irrelevant locations, the president throws one form of bombshell or the other. The latest was the claim by the president when the Ndi Igbo paid him a visit this week where he made public his appreciation of the support that he got from the Igbo race during the 2011 fiasco which saw him through to the Villa on May 29th 2011. The president told the world shamelessly and unintelligently that it was the Igbos that voted for him in the North and not the Northerners. Literally, the president said that all the votes he got from the North were Igbo votes. . . Read the rest here www.igbolandforum.com |

jason123:Jason, such a lovely name however your thoughtfulness lets u down. when one says black or white does it mean only BLACK people and WHITE people ? ofcourse not, it means every , any and of every shade. same goes for tom, Joystick and harry, does it mean only people with tribal association of tom, Joystick and harry ? dude grow a brain. |
guys i don't want to drag this thread to the name-calling gutters, but can i ask u a question ? Why didn't Jesus Christ concentrate his preaching to his "own" people ? or why didn't Jesus convert his people first ? Please don't forget Igbos have same biological genes and linage with . . . . . More earthly, who told you our land is not developed within the available capacity "imposed" upon it ? checks the value of land in the SE compare to SW region. (Lagos is not in SouthWest region, (pre civil war) for ur information, tho it is in SW geopolitical zone,1994) |

why is this topic always a sore point for you Yorubas ? First, Aworis are not entirely Yoruba ( i will leave that for now) Two, your disparaging analogy of Abuja and Gwari is exactly the same for lagos if only u replace abuja with lagos , Gwari with awori. then hausa with yoruba. also saying "its so surrounded by yoruba that it is yoruba" same can be said of abuja as being surrounded by hausa that it is hausa, yet the contrary is the case in both. third, lagos was built on no man's land. an island, that was inhospitable and seemly inhabitable. with the ingenuity of the british , the steadfastness, diligence and proficiency of the Igbos whom occupied all critical decision making structure of the civil service at that time , made this seemingly waste a capital. look, Igbos are not claiming anything, its national property we all know that, and have faith in its status and continue to demonstrate that faith by pouring money and material into the trenches of ikotun to the marshland of ikoyi, epe, to the ghetto of mushin- redeveloping and even more outright building of edifice that shone and radiates beyond our national shores. |
