The woman that sell bean cake,"iya alakara" is on same parity with u in terms of civilization I'm a true yoruba man so I believe my civilization's folklores....whether I take it seriously is another thing. I certainly not let it clash with my knowledge of Yoruba history. ....u have the skill of comprehension u would have known dat |

mrDennis: Am a proud bini man and I make bold to say I CONCUR ! If not for the fact that it was an abomination for a non-Benin man to speak bini back in the old days by now Benin would be a 'major' language second only to Hausa .
People who do not know facts don't know the IBO race/kingdom started after *EBO* meaning yellow man a prince of Benin kingdom was banished accross the Niger and the place was called *ONITSE* meaning "it's enough". Today it is called onitsha . And the whites who couldn't understand bini called them IBO (he-bo)
Ile ife learnt its bronze casting from Benin also it's crafts that's a fact , also bini kingdom was a a very diplomatic kingdom and thus we had lots of ambassaodors , thus the oranmiyan story
Truth be told this is a clarion call to all binis around the world to start putting pressure on FG to revert to regional system let's take ondo , delta, bayelsa and anambra territories back! I hope you aren't too blind and deluded to accept dat Benin Empire was not larger than Oyo state, Nigeria |

Malawian: yoruba people have not told us why on earth bini people will travel to ife to look for a king for themselves despite the eons of renowned royalty.
on the other hand, yoruba still havn't told us any prior kinds they had before oduduwa.
this story is very clear.
but yoruba will insist that someone turned into a river, or that odudwa came down from heaven without parachaute with a chicken and amala on both hands, and started the first owambe known to man.
odiegwu. Why can't Bini accept an Ife royal, they were in time of crisis? btw not all Bini accepted Oranmiyan or his son. ..till today Ogiamien is the real King of Bini, Oba only buys his right during every coronation...let any Bini deny this. ..I dare u that's when people mix mythology with history. ..talk to people who can tell the difference |

9jacrip: What the Bini hinge their argument on is simply the rendition of names.
We need to remind them that names such as Oduduwa and Oranmiyan were nicknames and not actual names.
Oduduwa is a fusion of Odu to da Iwa. The vessel that brought creation/existence. The 'oduduwa' ife king, got called the name because he was the vessel through which Ife confederacy was ended.
Oduduwa is in no way Izoduwa or whatever con you folks come up with. The actual Oduduwa was in Ife's creation history and the name was extended to the human king who ushered in a new era of political unification in Ife.
I'm sure the Bini believe Oranmiyan which they changed to 'Omonayan' was his actual name rather than Odede which as the actual name.
Please and please, Bini folks need to do a proper research of Yoruba words before twisting it to fit into their poor revisionism.
I read somewhere that Ekhalederhen stopped over at Owo? Owo didn't even come into existence until after Oduduwa's period as king in Ife. Edo folks be letting inferiority complex destroy their history I laughed so hard after reading "Ooni is son of Oba of Benin"..."Oba of Benin has no connection with yoruba Obas" so a father has no connection with the son but it's be honest Egbon, we yorubas have also lost our history. .the greater population still mock themselves by saying nonsense like Oduduwa came from the sky or Oduduwa came from mecca. ..why won't Bini take advantage to claim him too? |

we don't have any connection with arabs or Egyptians
now the esogban doesn't have knowledge of the topic he's trying to discuss. .. let the Oba of Benin say he is not a descendant of Oduduwa not a lousy chief |

martineinstein: Ooni is too young to start unnecessary controversy...the monarch that almost colonized almost the entire southern Nigeria(from Lagos to kogi to bayelsa) and part of middle belt is now under u?.. If not for British punitive expedition of 1896,ooni would have been conquered by oba of Benin.... many first class monarchs are under oba of Benin, especially oba of Lagos, obi of onitsha, asagba of asaba, olu of Warri, dein of agbo etc. Even the traditional name of Lagos,'eko' is a bini word....ooni should go and rest joor
Oba agha t'okpe e!....ise! excuse me. . during the time of Benin Empire, the omo n'oba n'edo was always buried in Ile-Ife. .. so Ife was considered the origin of the omo n'oba n'edo and there's no way Bini could attack Ife, other yoruba groups wouldn't even allow it Bini is a Yoruba word. ..so what's the issue over Eko whose Oba is nothing but a figure head |

luckysay: The yoruba story of Oduduwa is so funny, stupid and meaningless to me. Am always so surprised how a modern day learned person still believes all those folktales and still hold on to it with passion as if it makes them a better people. I feel we should be more intellectually advanced than those tales by moon light of oduduwa falling from heaven with a snail etc etc Actually it's those who don't know much about yoruba traditions that take the Oduduwa "coming"(nt falling) from Orun so seriously. .. in traditional yoruba society there's two forms to the tales we tell - Historical and Mythical - Same names might appear but they are different personalities take a look at Oduduwa, a spirit being that was sent to finish the work of Obatala who got drunk, their job was to reform the earth after a great flood. then there's Oduduwa, a man who was most likely a native of Oke-Ora a component hamlet northeast of Ife..he led a civil war against the reigning King Obatala and brought the hamlets together under a unified government see the difference? and why people can easily get confused |

Nowenuse: Yoruba and Igbo ethnic identities were purely creations of the British colonial masters! Prior to colonialism, some yoruba sub tribes never adressed themselves as yorubas. Ijebus, Ikales, Ilajes, Akoko, Okuns, Egbas, Awori e.t.c never adressed themselves as yorubas and some of them were never even under Oyo empire.
The same thing with igbo land. Ngwa clans, Ezza-izzi, Nsukka, Arochukwu, Ukwa, Anioma, Onitsha e.t.c never considered themselves as ethnic igbos and even till today some do not agree that they are igbos.
The british failed to unite the tribes of the middlebelt because they wanted to lump all our people under the rule of the caliphate for their administrative convenience of indirect rule. If the british had united us. The middlebelt would have not been ethnically diverse as it is today. And as it stands, every ethnic nation and subnation hav their prides and no one would be ready to submit to the dominance of the other, hence the reason why ethnic merges can no longer work. Only the colonial masters can arrange that . yoruba was nt the creation of colonial powers please. our unity as a single group came during colonial times but our brotherhood has lasted since the time of Greats like Oranmiyan, Sango, Orangun etc the middle belt lack this brotherhood. ..what binds the various yoruba subgroups together is smeared all over However I'm concerned about Groups in the middle belt still claiming distinct Identities when they are obviously related enough to be considered one ethnic nation |

Nowenuse: Haba my brother! How can Nupes be 60% of Niger state? Do u know Niger state at all? Nupes at most are 40% of Niger state. Nupes dominate only 8 LGAs out of the 25 LGAs in Niger state (Niger south) and are found substantially in 2 other LGAs outside Niger south.
Niger east is dominated by Gbagyis/Gbari and other tribes like Kamuku, Koro and Kadara. while Niger north has many tribes.
Also, U cannot authoritatively classify Kakanda as Nupe people. Yes they speak a Nupe language but they sometimes claim a distinct identity just the same way Gbari and Gade sometimes claim a distinct identity from Gbagyis. The same thing with Bassa people(of kogi, fct and Nasarawa state), Kupa people (kogi state) and Dibo people (fct). All these people speak Nupe dialects, but they sometimes claim a distinct identity from Nupe. But Tiv is Tiv anywhere, no divisions. Nigerians should have grown past this unnecessary divisions. they should learn from the Yoruba, and come together as one ethnic nation. |
