with this analysis I think Benin man was oduduwa cos they seems to have influence in Yoruba instead of Yoruba having influence in Benin hence the term oba is a Benin word just like Eko and idu
Wrong, Yoruba have no Bini influence outside eastern kingdoms close to Bini
Oba is yoruba pls
Idu is also yoruba
Eko could be but I don't speak all Yoruba dialects. .
I read once that in Ife "Teko" is Farming
Eko could be farm, farming in Awori/Ijebu

macof - you are welcome. Am sure you and the other yorubas disouting Lagos / Oba of Lagos ancesrty are the Yoruba migrants to Lagos.
Anyway read what Oba Akiolu said:

Read what Oba Akiolu said about their Ancestry:

"Lagos is partly Yoruba and partly Benin. The matriarch was an Awori, a Yoruba, and the patriarch was a descendant of an Oba of Benin"

"In those days, Eko was Eko before the advent of the Portuguese adventurers who came and named it Lago de Curamo, which means land near the water. There is a town in Portugal called Lagos. They named this place after their Lagos over there. They assisted in rebuilding the throne room and that is why it’s called Iga. The palace is a place of pride and honour. The custodian of the throne must be very frank, have goodwill, be absolutely honest and love his subjects because anything he says will come to pass."

Nobody is denying Bini descendants in Lagos

Lagos state has Ekiti, Ijebu, Oyo, Egba, Bini, Awori, Egun, Itsekiri descendants
But let's talk Eko (Lagos Island ). .. The Island is owned by Awori - Aromire , an Idejo had his farm at the island , the site where the Bini descendants settled while he settled at Idumota - his lineage are still present there wit their palace
Oba of lagos having Bini ancestry doesn't make Lagos Bini property - it neve was, if it was the idejo cannot still be claiming the LAND- the Bini lineages in Eko don't dispute this
The Bini descendants settled in Isale - Eko, up till Enuwa where Idumota began
Aromire still holds his land
The Oba of Lagos doesn't own landed property by virtue of his ancestry, he owns only influence and respect

tonychristopher:
The names you have listed are compounded. Remember that in Edo language, sentences or phrases tend to coalesce into single words with the vowels elided or euphonic letters inserted, making it difficult to determine the precise words, which are the component parts of such a phrase. The first four letters "Idun" could have been shortened from Idunwun meaning "district" or "area" or "section".

Thus:
"IDUNMAGBO" would be district of 'magbo'.
"IDUNGANRAN" would be district of 'ganran'
"IDUNMOTA" would be district of 'mota'
"IDUNTAFA" would be district of 'tafa'

Nigeria: Living Room

The meanings of 'magbo', 'ganran', 'mota' and 'tafa' will be difficult to pin down precisely now but could have been shortened from any one of numerous Edo names - probably names of Warrior settlers or other such relationships. They might even be names of villages or village groups conquered and brought into Eko - the prisoner of war camp. Either explanation would make sense because the names you have provided are mostly districts in Eko (now Lagos).

The second possibility is that the first three letters stand for "Idu......" where Idu stands for a well known ancient Bini idol.

There is a whole vocabulary of old Edo that relates to architectural and other technical items (including weapons and military formations). I may need to check on this to really know whether there are other meanings not only for the Idun... words, There are several members of the royal family on the list. I am copying this message to them.

Stay in touch. We will certainly call on you to get materials for such a link to celebrate our ancestral ties.

There is much to be re-discovered.

You're not very bright.

There was never a Benin conquest in Lagos, what you see as a conquest was rather a diplomatic agreement between the two. Benin only set up war camps, hence, military occupation.

From your source of 'facts':

Your source, despite being poorly writ, managed to provide answers to some of your questions. You could have discovered these answers if you had not let the 'nor be yoruba own Lagos' struggle paralyze your mind.

Furthermore:

There goes another answer but there is more, just hold on tight.

From: http://www.oshodi.org/history/lagosians.html

According to the ‘Idejo” source-they, the Bini people, did not conquer them- they were invaded to settle disputes among the sons of Olofin. According to this source, the facts that the Obas of Lagos ‘owned’ no land in Lagos which is disposed of exclusively by the Yoruba Idejo chiefs, and that the Idejo chiefs did not perform any administrative duties on behalf of the Oba and took to the mainland in time of war leaving the Oba to defend Lagos, do not suggest an original Benin conquest.

From: http://www.oniruroyalfamily.org/index.php/history

Among the children who first arrived and possessed lands wereAROMIRE, OLOTO, ONIRU, OLUWA, OJORA, ONIKOYI, ONITANA, OLUMEGBON, ONITOLO, ELEGUSHI and ONISIWO. They are the ancestors of the Idejo chiefs, the oldest chieftaincy on the island and their rights over their land holdings were recognized by the Obas (kings) of Lagos, when that institution was created by the Oba of Benin.

Another: http://lawaspire.com.ng/2014/06/chief-adesina-jinadu-ors-v-chief-israel-esurombi-aro-anor-2/

4. The Ojora Chieftaincy Family is one of the Idejo Land owning Chieftaincy Families of Lagos and its traditional head is the Chief Ojora, a Lagos Idejo White Cap Chief.

5. The whole of the land originally owned by the Ojora Chieftaincy Family (hereinafter referred to as the Ojora Land) were known generally as Iganmu and have been in the possession of the said family (sic) from time immemorial and is bounded on the East by the Lagos Lagoon and part of Lagos Island and Ebute-Metta; on the North by the land of Oloto Chieftaincy Family Abebe Creek, Iguru Swamp and Itire Land; on the West by the land of Amuwo and of Alahun and on the South by the land of the Oluwa Chieftaincy Family, and more particularly shown on a plan dated December 1918 made by Herbert Macaulay (now deceased.)"

The Oba of Lagos' power now extends beyond Lagos island as the permanent head of Oba's council in Lagos but he can only influence decisions outside Lagos Island not necessary 'order a decision'.

I have tried to avoid engaging you because the issues you raise could easily be answered by hitting google but tonight you forced my hands. You're lucky google books seem not to be working. Read what is up there and remind me what your questions were again or you want to prove to know more than the Idejo themselves?

The sudden interest you and your team of Ibo revisionists have in Yoruba history is becoming disgusting, you all should focus more on your history and extend it towards pre-1967.
Beautiful! I didn't know the Internet has a good write on the Idejo - why then do the same Internet history lovers ignore this when they see it?

That's what you get, when you Yorubas deliberately created stories of Oduduwa as a means of Propaganda (please your kinsmen said so). However, over the years, when scholars dispelled one story with unassailable facts and figures, your writers will create another one. Today, we have about 12 VERSIONS of Oduduwa among the Yorubas. So, leave him alone; even on this thread I'd read about 4 versions already grin

tonychristopher:
I will agree with you here but there is a notion that ilajes are in Ijaw land

ILAJES (MAHINS) - ORIGIN

The Ilajes met the Arogbo-Ijaws in the home land of the latter people. The Ilajes escaped from Ile-Ife a few centuries ago running for their dear life because of the misunderstanding between them and their kith and kins in Ile-Ife. They arrived in Ijawland in the present Ondo State and pleaded to be sheltered. Thus the Ilajes whose countrymen, the Yoruba are hinterland based people found themselves settled along the Atlantic sea-coast separated from the hinterland by the Arogbo-Ijaw clan who inhabit the fresh water swamps of the Delta adjoining the mainland. This historical event explains why the oldest Ilaje-towns can only be found along the Atlantic coast line and not more than a few decades old. The Arogbo-Ijaws taught the Ilajes the art of swimming, fishing, house building and canoe-paddling the only mode of transportation in the area.

18. This story was corroborated by the testimony of the then Olugbo-Elect, Crown Prince Adebanjo Akingbade Mafimisebi. He is now the substantive Olugbo of Ugbo. Testifying before the Justice Ajakaiye Chieftaincy Commission of Inquiry sitting at Akure, he deposed as follows: "The Ugbo-Kingdom in the Ilaje-Ese Odo Local Government of Ondo State existed before Oduduwa came to Ile-Ife. Ugbo (Ilaje) Kingdom is one of the ancient Kingdoms in Yorubaland as a whole, and the people (Ilajes) were originally (underlining ours) in Ile-Ife before Oduduwa (father of the Yorubas) came and raided them. They first settled at Oke Mafunranyan (High Hill) which was later known as Oke-Igbo, and later migrated to the Arogbo-Ijaw riverine area of Ondo State." (See Sunday Sketch, June 19, 1988.

19. This history of Ilaje settlement in their present habitat is further corroborated in a short history of the Ilajes by an expatriate, Patriarch J. G. Campbell who stated that the Ilajes left Ile-Ife to Ese-Odo area where they were assisted by the Ijos (Ijaws) to settle in their new environment.

20. The said press statement by the conspirator Chiefs was released on the eve of the so called Constitutional Conference organised by the Abacha Administration. Its intention was to mislead, misinform and deceive the public, the Abacha Government and the delegates to the conference to deny us our request for a separate Local Government - Toru-Ibe Local Government Area.

21. The present Rejoinder by these writers has the same intention: to misinform, mislead and deceive the public and the Federal and State Governments in the on-going Boundary delimitation exercise embarked upon by the National Boundary Commission. The third purpose of these conspirators is to show the Ijaws in a bad light, all in their attempt to corner our God-given oil rich lands.

22. They insulted the whole Ijaw race by describing it as " a nomadic and highly sedentary race that migrate to other places to live, "using their canoes in the water ways and settling on shore to engage in their fishing business." These are very inflamming words , and these chiefs owe an unreserved apology to the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

23. The Ijaws are neither nomads, migrants nor settlers, as we shall prove very presently.

http://www.unitedijaw.com/egbemaclan.htm
Ilaje has always had their own land..they have had contact with ijaw, trade nd fights here and there but they are different

Ask your Yoruba elders, the meaning of OLÓFIN ÁLÁ

Let me hlp you out. We have many Lazy kids in this generation.
==================================================

JESUS, The Christ = OLÓFIN ÁLÁ, was Initiated in the Yorubaland into IFÁ.
¡Ogbó, ató, àsúre, Ìwòrìwòfún. OLÓFIN á gbà é, BABA ODÙDÚWÀ á gbà é, ÒRÚNMÌLÀ ÈLÀ á gbà é! – May You Have Long Life, with the Spiritual Blessing of Ifá Odù Ìwòrì Wòfún (Who Opens the Divine Portal of the Grace of OLÓDÙMARÈ), May the Blessing of OLÓFIN (Concious Manifestation of GOD), Baba ODÙDÚWÀ, and ÒRÚNMÌLÀ ÈLÀ be upon you!
Aláàfia se a ni – May the Peace be with You!
“EGBÉ ÓDÙN OLÓFIN” = The Family of OLOFIN’S Secret
Teachings given by baba Odùdúwà through his Elègún (medium) and the Teachings of Égún Tata G, a spirit Emissary of Odùdúwà.
JESUS, The Christ = OLÓFIN ÁLÁ, was Initiated in the Yorubaland into IFÁ
Baba Odùdúwà:
Christ is a Title that means the anointed by the Holy Spirit, anointed by the Divine Power. Christ is ONE, and many Christ existed in many traditions around the Planet; Hindu, Yoruba, etc.
There are many things written, but few of them can compare with the Reality. The Catholic Religion has Angels and Saints in their Cult, and Christ is the Son of God in the Catholic Tradition. Within the (Esoteric) Yoruba Tradition, Christ is known as “OLÓFIN ALA”, the Smallest Son of OLÓFIN (the Conscious Manifestation of God). The First Son of OLÓFIN ÒRUN was OLÓFIN ÈLÀ (The Spirit Essence of Purity).
What image do we have of Jesus? The image is one of a Compassionate person, Why? All the Divine Beings don’t need anything from the Earthly Beings. The Divine knows and recognize its Power. Christ or Yeshua, there are many things written about him. What we know as Christ in reality is not as people portray him. In Reality JESUS was Furious being, Terrible, Why? No one knows in Truth how is he, only those 16 Major Spirits know the truth about him, and know him. Those who we call Apostles didn’t really know him. Christ is a Marvelous, and is an Enormous Being, but however he is a terrible being, he is Terribly Powerful. The use of terrible here refers not to the malignant aspect, but Terrible here is focus to his WRATH. The True name of Jesus was YOSEF, and he in reality is the smallest Son of OLÓFIN. Christ is the one who decided to Sacrifice himself for Humankind, he is Eternal and Divine, and by been a Divine Being, people had to Pay a very High Price for shedding his Blood. That is why there is so much blood shedding in those lands of Israel, Palestine, and stills more bloodshed to come in that area. No one truthfully knows his true physical form; no one knows many of the real Jewish Secrets.
NOTE: Based on the Teaching giving by Baba Odùdúwà and one of his Emissary Spirits, TATA G, Jesus travel to different lands to seek for knowledge, and he was initiated in different Traditions. He went to Egypt, Persia, India, Himalayas, and also people didn’t that he also went to Africa and specially to Yorubaland and there he was Initiated into IFÁ priesthood.
EGUN TATA G Teaching: Jesus name was mix-up with his father name, Jesus real name was Yosef and his father name was Jesus (Yeshua). Jesus (Yosef) went to Yorubaland, he was consulted with the 16 Cowries Shell of the ÒÒŞÀ tradition, he came with 16 Cowries shell mouths up (Eerindínlógún), that is a sign that the person who is Consulting the Oracle is a SON of OLÓFIN (God), so they took him right away to be Initiated into IFÁ. Also he received other initiations of other African Traditions specially the NGANGA Initiation of Ancestor Worship of Warrior Spirits. When Jesus was in the Catacombs he performed different spiritual practices of African origin (he also did the Bakinya or Rayamiento (Scratch) Ceremony to his inner disciples), also did Egyptian spiritual practices. When he left this world he became a High Spiritual Power, he is very close in Spiritual Hierarchy to Baba Odùdúwà.
BABA ODÙDÚWÀ on the Daughter of Jesus: The know character in the New Testament, Jesus, he only had a daughter, and she died as a Virgin. This woman was of dark color, later people worship her as the Black Virgin, and now a day’s people (Gypsies specially) worship her as SAINT SARAH KALI, they call her the VIRGIN of the GYPSIES, she is venerated in the south of France, and Rumania. She is depicted as a Black Virgin.
Another teaching Odùdúwà gave
Why you said that he has not satiated his Thirst of Blood?
When he (Jesus) did his EBO (Sacrifice), when he shed his Blood in that land (ISRAEL), He also wanted an EBO (a Sacrifice), so Big a Sacrifice he wanted to also be made, that even today still they are paying with blood in that area of ISRAEL, to this they are condemn the people you know as ISRAEL. This is due to the EBO EJE (Blood Sacrifice) and until they pay the same value of the Blood that Jesus shed, the bloodshed won’t stop. Imagine how much the Blood is worth, but not of a regular human, but the blood of a Divinity (ÒRÌŞÀ). This is what you should aspire to reach, to become Divine (as an ÒRÌŞÀ level).
Note: SORRY FOR ANY ENGLISH MISTAKES.
Note: Most think that OLÓFIN ÒRUN is another title for Olódùmarè, but the Teaching of Baba Odùdúwà through his Elègún rejects that statement, and say there are different. The late Nigerian Babalawo Ayo Salami in one of his books mentions that through his Ifá research, he found “Ese Ifá” (Ifá verses) that mention OLÓFIN ÒRUN as a separate Deity from Olódùmarè, and state that he was the First Being in the Firmament.

People keep saying Bini clonized Aworis in Lagos
I have lived most of my life among Aworis, most of Bini origin but none have agreed to that
Sure Oba of lagos is of Bini origin but his lineage are known to answer to the idejo
Think of the Oba as a figure head, adviser and counsel not as a lord and landowner
I haven't come across anything suggesting Bini held Aworis on conquest

To answer your question..

The Aworis were the first settlers of Lagos. At the time, the influence of Benin kingdom was very strong.
The Awori didn't treat Bini representatives well during trade, when the Oba heard this, he sent emisarries who were attacked by the Aworis. The angered Oba now sent his son - Ado, with an army to demand an explanation from the Aworis, but he was surprisingly well-received and even asked to be their leader. Oba agreed to this and later sent some chiefs to assist Ado in running Eko.
Ado was responsible for naming of the areas of Eko, that's why they bear bini names.
There's no Bini influence in lagos. Most of my friends are from Chieftain families in lagos and I know their family very well
There's more Ijebu and Itsekiri influence in Lagos than Bini
Awori don't even dress Bini

Get this well.
Oranmiyan left Bini to meet another son of his father on the throne of Ife, a son that wasn't even born when he and his 6 brothers were around - Ooni. He was given birth to by a slave and not the same mother that gave birth to the 'other 7'.
Oranmiyan felt betrayed because he had been promised he would succeed his father Oduduwa and only accepted to rule Bini for a short while. But after he left the Ife palace, all of his brothers left too, each settling down in his own kingdom. Ooni was the only one available to cater for Oduduwa and that was why Oduduwa made it his dying wish that Ooni succeeds him. He left in anger and founded Oyo-ile (not the present Oyo, but the present day Igboho) as the first Alaafin, note:- Ajaka was never the first Alaafin.

Oranmiyan is the link between Oyo and Benin kingdom and that's why Binis claim to have closer ties with Oyo than Ife, having been ruled by the same Oranmiyan.
ok pls on what grounds was Oranmiyan promised the throne of Ife?

[quote author=kalakuta100 post=33432013]nobody that is not a Benin prince trained in the arts and traditions of Benin can rule the great land of igodomigodo... Please look at history and talk like some a someone educated.. This your story is half baked this is the real gist .The exiled Prince Ekaladerhan who was not known in Yoruba land, somehow earned the title of Oni Ile-fe Izoduwa which is now corrupt to yoruba language as Ooni (Oghene) of Ile-Ife Oduduwa and refused to return, then sent his son Oranmiyan to become king. Prince Oranmiyan took up his abode in the palace built for him at Usama by the elders (now a coronation shrine). Soon after his arrival he married a beautiful lady, Erinmwinde, daughter of Osa-nego, was the ninth Enogie (Duke) of Ego, by whom he had a son. After some years residence here he called a meeting of the people and renounced his office, remarking that the country was a land of vexation, Ile-Ibinu (by which name the country was afterward known) and that only a child born, trained and educated in the arts and mysteries of the land could reign over the people. He caused his son born to him by Erinmwinde to be made King in his place, and returned to Yoruba land Ile-Ife. After some years in Ife, he left for Oyo, where he also left a son behind on leaving the place, and his son Ajaka ultimately became the first Alafin of Oyoof the present line, while Oranmiyan himself was reigning as Oni of Ife. Therefore, Oranmiyan of Ife, the father of Eweka I, the Obaof Benin, was also the father of Ajaka, the first Alafin of Oyo.

Oni of Ife and Alafe of Oyo is a Bini spoken language all the Kings title in Southerner are Edo Language. In Nigeria Edo has the greatest and rich culture and most influence in West Africa and powerful King in Nigeria.
The bold bits doesn't fit with Yoruba history.

You Edo people jst lik to claim what is unclaimable
BINI empire wasn't even amongst the top 3 top empires in Nigerian history
You still have Kanem-bornu of the Kanuri, Oyo of the Yoruba and Sokoto of the Fulani/Hausa ahead
