Afam4eva: This is ignorant(no offense)...

What's Yoruba culture and religion. So, the Yorubas that are Christians and Muslims today are not Yorubas? Who're you to determine what is Yoruba and what is not Yoruba?
A true Yoruba is one that possess the "omoluabi" concept.

Total patriotism to your people, mental independence and freedom from foreign sire.

Now most Yoruba Christians and Muslims don't posses that

shymexx: Bwahahahahaha.

Yes, we the Ijebu's were Arabs before modern-day pale-skinned Arabs. Their race started probably during the 23th dynasty in Egypt, however, we existed before them.

Anyway, we the Ijebu's used to live in Palestine and we were the Jebusites of yore. Migrated to Waddai, before coming to present day Nigeria, with our Itsekiri brothers. We're NOT Yoruba's. Perhaps, that's why a lot of pretentious Yoruba's hate us. grin cool
No one would follow u to argue ur history but Note: ur Oba is Yoruba.

9jacrip: I'm glad we have agreed upon how Oduduwa usurped power.
As I've previously said, the festival, like Edi Festival is a re-enactment of what transpired between Oduduwa and Obatala. Obatala was usurped by Oduduwa upon his arrival.

According to what I know. Agboniregun also known as Orunmila is an Awo, the father of Ifa corpus/knowledge. He was at no time the ruler/head of Ife but rather Obtala was the leading figure as at the time Oduduwa usurped.

I need to ask; what text have you read that didn't name Obatala? I am just wondering because the evolution of Ife political structure is tied to Obatala whose era faded away and ushered in Oduduwa's era.

In reference to Oduduwa coming from Benin - let us assume the Benin-centric argument holds water. Why are there no traces of Benin political system in Ooniship in Ile-Ife? Oduduwa who is claimed to have been a prince in Benin would have introduced what was at Benin at the time before he was expelled, yes? How and where did Oduduwa come up with the Obaship system which was alien to Benin? You would agree with me that for the fact the Oduduwa reigned supreme, he would have entrenched or ingrained somethings from Benin political, social and cultural aspects? And there's no way Benin elements would disappeared because he wasn't below the chain - a commoner, he was the head.

Lastly, in response to a point you raised. it is possible the Benin people heard of the political stability in Ife, hence, they pleaded/requested for it. My take is, Oduduwa's origin should still be left open till something very more credible is brought up.
Good point!

I don't know where the Oba of Benin came up wit this story of Ekarlederan or wat is d name againundecided

When they say life started at Ife, they mean Yoruba life.

There were people living in the Sudan area centuries before migration started to other parts of Africa.

9jacrip: Bro,

When they say Ife is where creation/the world started, please do not look in the direction of 'world' as a whole but rather 'Yoruba world'.
It is possible the people of Ile-Ife at that time did not have contact with outside world, so they believed their emigration to found other towns is 'creation of the world'. Look in the context of Ife/Yoruba geography not the world as we know it.

I don't know if that makes sense to you

In essence, tuck the spiritual philosophy in your pocket but if you open a thread dedicated to Obatala philosophy, I promise you'll find me there contributing immensely.

Address the Itapa Festival re-enactment (if at all you know anything about Obatala and what the festival entails you'd argue no further) and Dierk Lang's work. Both which corroborate my points.

9jacrip: You're one funny person.

I know your type - when y'all meet people who are intellectually superior you then resort to cheap attacks, running around the theme of discussion or coming up with a point in another dimension that is way out of context.

You left the discourse to attack what I said.

Now you're mixing philosophy with history - did you go to school at all? When did history start bothering on the spiritual philosophy?

I'm done trying to enlighten you, wallow in your folly but do not, in an attempt to share your minute knowledge, desecrate Yoruba history.

My being a devotee and offspring of Olorisa house at Itapa is not for you to believe - this is a faceless forum so you're free to spew trash.

Back to the argument which you attacked Katz for: Oduduwa met Obatala in Ile-Ife and Obatala and his cronies were sacked, Obatala then left for the forest and he was appeased to return. I've referenced the annual Itapa festival where this is re-enacted and Dierk Lange's work.

Bring something factual to the table or sod off!
Total rubbish is wat what you posting

Yoruba spirituality is full of philosophy and am going by what Yoruba tradition states.

am nt disputing the fact that Oduduwa met Obatala at Ife, neither am I saying Obatala didn't leave Ile-Ife

But you are no Obatala devotee, you are simply into Yoruba history and debunk the spirituality in it

Obatala wanted to rule Ife But it wasn't his destiny, Olodumare planned that honor for Oduduwa. When Oduduwa came, Obatala had to step down and the 16 communities of Ile-Ife were merged under Oduduwa

shymexx: That's folklore. However, that doesn't negate the Ife link and the fact that they all believe that they migrated via Ife (or should I say those who started their kingdoms) to their present locations. I'd say the new life, in their present location started in Ife - however, their existence on this planet started from somewhere else.

Igbo's are able to migrate in droves to Lagos because it's the same country. However, it was never like that during ancient times when kingdoms were known to be territorial. If Yoruba's and Igbo's were in different countries, do you think they would allowed to migrate to Lagos in droves the way they do now, without checks? Even with that, do Igbo's feel the sense of ownership the Ijebu's had while settling in Oyo cities?
It's nt just folklore.

Ile-Ife is the cradle of mankind, the beginning of not just the Yoruba but The world

Am currently trying to study about Kemet and I see some prove that honored a west African territory.

Still on it though

Oduduwa revolted and toppled the royal houses and Obatala who was the ruler in Ile-Ife at the time of Oduduwa's advent.
Obatala was forced to leave the town but was later appeased to return and till today the Obatala 'idol' wears the aare crown before any new Ooni to signify Obatala's place in Ile-Ife/Yoruba land - a re-enactment done during Obatala's festival in January smiley

Obatala came to earth many times wanting to be king but the people rejected him on the advice of Orunmila, but when Oduduwa came he was accepted by the people

Katsumoto: Having read the Bini account, the Ife account, and the Ilaje account, I am convinced Oduduwa existed. I am also convinced that Oduduwa was not Yoruba. I am led to conclude that he was Bini. But I believe he met Yoruba people at Ifa. After the revolt against the old rulers in Ife, the rulers fled southbounds and became the Ilajes/mahins. The migration of the 7 Obalades also lends credence to the existence of Oduduwa. What is usually disputed are his origins.
Rubbish. Oduduwa didn't revolt against anybody, he was welcomed at first site. The prophecy of Oduduwa had been made hundreds of years before he came. And there's no prove of any birth place of Oduduwa, the Ife people believed he came from heaven as Ifa had promised a king

You get that anywhere

It's all a state of mind, if you have in ur mind dat a place of person can help u get rid of some problem it would.

Christians have put it in their minds that church is a place of healing, all their energy goes into this place and projects that healing. It's like an illusion

when ever I have headache, I believe when I take water and rest for as short as 10mins I'll be relieved when some would need panadol and all sorts first

Many people have received healing from fake pastors with no power, it's all about your faith. If you trust something dat becomes ur personal reality but doesn't make it universally true
Christianity Etc › Re: You Should Read This About Religions by macof(op): 8:46am On Oct 20, 2013
Sarassin: I do not believe it is a safe assumption to make that Jesus never existed historically. Clearly Paul never met Jesus but he did meet the likes of James (brother of Jesus) titular head of the Jewish Christians as well as the likes of Peter, both of whom he had huge disagreements with, with respect to delivering the message of Jesus to the Gentiles. The earliest of Paul's writings, the letter to the Thessalonians written around 49CE less than twenty years after the crucifixion of Jesus gives us the clearest indication of what Paul's beliefs were about Jesus.

Thess 4:15-17 "For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord by no means will precede those who have died………then we who are alive, who are left will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air"

This is Paul, prior to his redemption theology, he clearly believed the kingdom of God was imminent and expected to be one of the chosen ones. This was exactly Jesus' teachings. Lastly, the oldest biblical manuscript now available to us are papyrus fragments of the Gospel of Mark referred to as P45, they are pre-constantinian and dated to the second century. P45 gives us a good insight into later additions to the Gospels by Bible writers, for instance Mark 16:9-20, as well as other alterations which do not exist in the original manuscripts, most importantly it does go a long way to establish that on the balance of probabilities, Jesus likely did exist, however much his teachings have been distorted.
No one argues that Yeshua didn't exist.however his life as written in the Bible has been populated with pagan gods. The Vatican knows this, I advise people to read more about the conspiracy of the church. This was what brought up Illuminati

So don't blame me cuz I don't have time to wait till the guy develop another question from my answer ..... !!!

I only attempted to be wholistic and that is quite scholarly, therefore, u get problem with that just deal with it !!!

::::::::::

U see, There is difference between denotative and contextual meanings to word therefore, segregating words in such manner u did above might not give the complete meanings to the word understudy !!!

Baba +Al + awo actually should Implied (''Man + In/OF + cult/brotherhood/fraternity) = Man/baba-In-Fraternity and such is the meaning @ basic level !!!

Awo =Brotherhood, e.g Awo mi (My bossom,My Intimate,My Friend or my Frat i.e My fraternal brother ... Etc) !!

So A babaAlawo or an Adifa doesn't involved in ''Isegun'' ahahaha, eiyah ?

::::::::::

All Adherent of Traditional Yoruba Belief no matter their denomination ''difa'' = to divine/Uses IFA/consult IFA but a complete IFA adherent who doesn't engaged in Amulu-mola doesn't Engaged in what most babalawo do !!! And such is the dichotomy !!!

U can never go to a complete IFA adherent and asked him/her to terminate somebody's life or wreck havoc on somebody's life , LaiLai, even if U are not careful, He/she may take it Upon Himself/herself to protect such fellow besought to be wrecked !!!

But when U go to other Baba-alawo who is not a complete IFA adherent but just ''DIFA''=Uses IFA ..... He will do any sh.it for you !!!, and such would still DIFA in ascertaining the implication of his actions !!

Thereby, the distinction that is so huge for you to decipher is so simplified upthere ..... That if U figured it already !!!

I believed the dude who asked the clarity would have had it @ first grasp, if not, then now !!!
Your translations are Horrible

Babalawo- baba-father. ala-owner,doer or any one relating to an action eg. ALAkobere, ALAriwo, ALAafin. awo-mystery= father who knows the mysteries

Awo has become the Yoruba word for priest(it is used like dat even in Ifa recites)

And Every genuine Babalawo would not agree to harm anybody, do not put classifications on Babalawo.

There are ritual specialist who deal wit causing harm to people, they use the power of the Ajogun spirits

However A Babalawo preaches good character, A Babalawo might help the course for revenge but to a moderate level so the person who did wrong might learn his lesson but that doesn't take away the genuineness of the Babalawo, or puts him in another category, it's more like a personal character

The origin of christianity is from Rome but illuminati started in Egypt.

The illuminati was created to oppose the church, the early christians were nothing but murderers, political skunkbags, and fraudsters. Christianity itself was created in a bid to acquire power and they deceived millions just like they still do today. Illuminati(the enlightened ones) were not to be deceived, and the church waged war against them.

I don't know if today the illuminati think they serve satan or the church made that up, but one thing am sure about is that the church knows they don't serve Yeshua, they just use his name
