Whoa! shocked
I'm really sorry to hear that, JS. That's far too young to die!

JeSoul:
ROTFLOL . . . Max "They will be bored" LOL that line has made my morning! lol
Thank you jare. I thought I was the only one not fawning over the supposedly 'great' movie.

And girl I feel you on the concept and story of BBM . . . but in the same way men are not supposed to fall in love with each other, Robots are not supposed to fall in love with each other. Can't they just be really close friends? My imagination runs as wild as it gets but some things just are not/cannot supposed to happen and it being projected on a screen no matter how cleverly will not win me over.
LMAO at the close friends thing. JS! grin grin
The Matrix : 90%. The moment the girl elevates herself and there was a time freeze, I was dead to the world till the end of this movie. GORGEOUS visuals, esp the aerial view of Neo as he emerges from the car into the building where Morpheus waits, night rain and darkness; stunning camera work. I'm not going to on about this movie. It's damn near perfect.
Reloaded : 40% and it gets that much only for the fight scenes in the city park with hundreds of Smiths, in the Merovingian's hall and car lot, and for those supremely cool Ghoul twins.
Revolution: 40%. One doesn't fail to notice the obvious religious symbolism, NEO sacrificing himself for the salvation of Zion. E ku ise.

@Vesc
I was being busy, actually. And waiting for the list, which you seem to be taking forever to drop.

RIP Patrick. Will never forget all the mush in Ghost and so will never forget thou.

OK. The list. Directors first. Let me see you come up with 20 good directors walking about on this planet.

I ordered Urban Decay eyeliner in Oil Slick. Someone wouldn't shut up about it. Hope it's not one of those glittery, rock groupie looks.I also added Cherry Too-Face in Ooh and Aah. I'm going to try the Nourishing Coconut Milk hair product. It sounds great.

I just got Meladerm. Kai, the container is so small for the amount. angry grin Hope it works. Otherwise I'm coming for your head. cheesy grin
lol don't mind these thief-thief cosmetic coys. I know it's small, but it is not ipara naw. It's for hyperpigmented areas of skin only. And if it's a part that gets sun exposure, don't forget a good sunscreen. I used it twice daily for four weeks and it totally worked. Another friend used Makari Caviar Face Lightening for acne-induced facial pigmentation and swore by it.But the darned thing costs $52 and is so tiny you might need a microscope to view the contents. Meladerm is safe and works.Just stretch it out by force.

Gamine:
Kiehl! now thats a great product
Sissy recommends it as a moisturiser. But she says its pricey so it must do more, but what does it do exactly? I'm already eyeing it greedily.  Good name brands,FLGators, but you're not saying why they're better than the rest.

I have no idea what you're talking about really. First quarter 2nd quarter? I can compare two directors but I don't have a grading system for directors so exact I'll list twenty people in order of preference. It'll be interesting to see you do your hierarchy thing.  Perhaps one might get a clue from that.
TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by MadMax1(op): 12:26pm On Sep 13, 2009
Bird, the animation guy.His was the voice of the large-headed midgety woman in The Incredibles, I think.Yeah, the last Indie outing is my least favourite. You want to list 20 actors, 20 directors (I'm not sure there are 20 good directors on the planet, Vesc.) and a movie hit parade, the Top 40? Why not? You handle it. Which means you start. Which means you don't just drop a list; it means nothing. You have to give the why of EACH CHOICE. Why this one made your list and not that one. Not sure about listing in order of preference though.Too much work. I'm watching clips of vintage Larry King Live. Jon Stewart just kills me.He's a crummy host but a real funnyman.

Lol And you don't like drool? Nobody's cooler than Naveen Andrews AND the other Indian dude in Heroes. Did you SEE the scene in The English Patient where Juliette Binoche watches Andrews loosen his Sikh turban, take down his hair and bathe? Ohhhhhh. Pure sensousness. The Sixth Sense earns Night forgiveness for a multitude of sins. But there are so many good to great directors out there I don't have time to waste with him. Tell me, who are your favourite movie directors and why?

Checked out the website.Nuhu Kwajafa's org. The guy's one of my heroes. Don't despair. It's one step at a time, and you're already on the right path. For now it may seem like it's not counting for much. But after a while when you look back you'll be amazed at the difference all those little steps would have made in people's lives. Stay strong and positive.

vescucci:
Ryan Reynolds na! The guy in two guys and a girl. That's a sitcom. Also Van Wilder. Something School. And I can bet Gamine's new found crush is cuz of his new film, The Proposal. Now you remember? Lol, Max. Have mercy on M. Night. The few times he gets it right more than makes up for the times he gets it wrong. Plus it seems you picked his worst movies to watch. Seen Lady in the water? Or the one with Willis and L. Jackson?
Van Wilder? I vaguely recall a very disgusting teen movie. Didn't see Two Guys.As for Night, I've seen Sixth Sense, Signs,Unbreakable, Happening, Lady in the Water and The Village. I respect Sixth, and enjoyed Unbreakable and Village and Lady, but there's nothing special about any but Sixth Sense.Signs really annoyed me;it had all the ingredients for something really good but ended up hollow and feeling like a cop-out.Wonder why Night does cameos in most of his movies.
TV/MoviesRe: The Movie Club by MadMax1(f): 12:27am On Sep 13, 2009
I couldn't take more than 20 minutes of There Will Be Blood. The title should've been They Will Be Bored. First time  I didn't finish a DDL movie. Yeah he's legendary for staying in character throughout the making of a movie; who did you think Downey Jr's character was making fun of in Tropic Thunder? As for Vendetta; I only enjoyed Portman, Vesc. Weaving mesmerised me in Matrix 1, but Vendetta spewed too much of the pretentious Wachowski Brothers dialogue that made me want to kick The Architect and The Merovingian in the balls. Hard.

As for Brokeback, the movie isn't asking, What Happens When Two Gay Men Fall In Love? It asks: What Happens When Two STRAIGHT Men fall In Love, not somewhere metropolitan, but in the deep conservative South of the 1950s? What happens to those men's lives, their marriages, the women who love them? Ledger and Gyllenhal weren't gay; they were straight men who fell in love. And because those feelings were so intense they knew it would have a physical dimension, they fought it; that was what the scene with fists smashing into faces and drawing blood was about. Their wives knew they had lost their men; Williams knew to whom. Hathaway had no idea when; When Ledger called and she told him about Gyllenhals death, she learned they'd been friends for two decades, which meant she'd lost her husband to this faceless stranger BEFORE he married her. These anguished little noises kept escaping her. I don't know how Lee got amazing performances out of virtually everyone.Look at the woman who played Gyllenhals mother;so good. It's just amazing filmmaking on every level.
TV/MoviesRe: The Movie Club by MadMax1(f): 1:49am On Sep 12, 2009
Lee's amazing. But didn't you want to kick his ass with Hulk? Not his material. Lol they're free to hate Brokeback. We've different tastes. I'm just half-teasing and half-exasperated. It's such an amazing movie and this is the first time I'll hear it being called so-so. The performances alone-! But your point's taken.
TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by MadMax1(op): 1:41am On Sep 12, 2009
Gamine you want to watch District 9. Who's Ryan Reynolds? huh Burt Reynold's son?
I heard about Time Traveller's Wife; don't know if it's any good. Don't know why I'm dragging my feet about Inglorious. Vesc,M.night isn't afraid to get his hands burned? How do you mean? Deep crap? The Happening sounds just about right. angry Trust the Max Payne guy to have no sense and jump into this movie. If it'd been the first Night movie I ever saw I would have sworn off the guy forever. As it is, I'm not touching anything of his for a while. Even SIGNS was just manageable. He really should smooth out the kinks in his scripts before rushing to point cameras at actors. Take a few cues from Tarantino and Cameron, why don't he? See his kinky-haired Oh Blimey Indian head.

Christianity EtcRe: Could It Really Be That A Person Can Be Born Gay? by MadMax1(f): 11:14pm On Sep 11, 2009
Hm.I shouldn't have used 'sexual orientation' to describe the three categories  of human sexuality there are; Instead, I should have used your word. And that means what two consenting adults do is our business. Never mind all the talk about incest and child molesting and the rest being deviant behavior punishable under the law while homosexuality isn't. Since we're talking about gay people here, 'what two consenting adults do' obviously refers to an adult gay relationship. And I see nothing said here that's shown it's any business of ours. Tell me how a gay adult relationship is any of our business any more than a straight adult relationship is, without going into unnecessary semantics. Tell me if human sexuality is acquired or innate, and furnish the evidence for either. The world isn't Christian. Not everyone lives by the bible or cares what the Bible says. I see no reason why you should judge or expect anyone to conform to your ideas of the sexual straight and narrow when human sexuality is little understood, when you don't understand it yourself.
TV/MoviesRe: The Movie Club by MadMax1(f): 10:34pm On Sep 11, 2009
JS I don't know what is to be done with you. You want to give Legally Blonde five stars but think Brokeback is so-so? Ang Lee I rate higher than Quentin Tarantino, and I love QT. Every time I watch it I am blown away by Ledger, I mourn him deeply for the actor he might have been. What a terrible, stupid, meaningless death. Brokeback so-so? Unbelievable. Ang Lee knows how to tell a story of few words; he uses music, he uses emotions, he knows grand, sweeping, talking vistas; he leaves space for you to become a part of whatever magic he's weaving. Apart from Minghella's English Patient, I don't know a director who can tell a love story better. Brokeback made me cry, as did Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. You don't have to like them. There's always Norbit. tongue

Karma, what did you think of Inglorious? How does it compare with other QT films?
TV/MoviesRe: The Movie Club by MadMax1(f): 8:19pm On Sep 10, 2009
You're just dying to give Norbit a five-star rating. I like the idea though. Some movie greats are in the past. The Matrix, The Sixth Sense, As Good as it Gets, Kung Fu Hustle, LA Confidential, Finding Nemo, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Brokeback Mountain, Braveheart, American Beauty, and on and on and on.
Christianity EtcRe: Could It Really Be That A Person Can Be Born Gay? by MadMax1(f): 7:45pm On Sep 10, 2009
Again, the tired reiteration that while some deviant behavior are considered crimes, rape, child molestation, incest, necrophilia, and the rest, one's sexual orientation isn't a crime. All of them still fall under gay, straight or bi. A gay molester will go for children of the same sex, a straight one for the opposite sex;A gay necrophile wants a dead man, a straight one wants a dead woman; gay or straight they'd still be thrown in jail. An adult gay couple, on the other, cannot be jailed, can they? Being gay isn't considered a crime any more than being straight is. I'm not advocating the gay lifestyle. But one should know whether human sexuality is innate or acquired before forming opinions on the matter.

Compare some How-Life-Began accounts thousands of years ago from civilisations that knew nothing of one another at the time. They're very beautiful.

In the very beginning everything was resting in perpetual darkness; night oppressed everything like an impenetrable thicket,  (The Great Father Creation Story of the Aranda People of Central Australia)

All was in suspense, all calm, all in silence; all motionless and still, and the expanse of the sky was empty(The Popol Vuh of the Quiche Maya)

Na Arean sat alone in space as a cloud that floats in nothingness. He slept not, for there was no sleep, he hungered not, for as yet there was no hunger. So he remained for a great while, until a thought came to his mind. He said to himself, ‘I will make a thing’. (The Maiana people)

Before Heaven and Earth had taken form all was vague and amorphous. That which was clear and light drifted up to become heaven, while that which was heavy and turbid solidified to become earth. Therefore heaven was completed first, and earth assumed shape thereafter. When heaven and earth were joined in emptiness and all was unwrought simplicity. Then without having been created all things came into being. This was the Great Oneness. All things issued from this Oneness but became different.
(China)

And from Genesis:
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

By the time one reads dozens of these accounts, some intriguing similarities emerge.

@Deep Sight
How can Zeus be the Greek equivalent of Jehovah? Are you saying the same God makes multiple appearances in diverse cultures, and yet somehow manages to have a different history and personality in each one?  I’m a Christian, but even then I can appreciate some of Majaze’s arguments.   Try and see things from his perspective for  a change; it doesn’t nullify your faith, it doesn’t make God disappear. You know what you know.
Christianity EtcRe: Could It Really Be That A Person Can Be Born Gay? by MadMax1(f): 2:08pm On Sep 10, 2009
Frankly what two consensual adults do is their business and no one else's. Is our sexuality inherent or learned? No one has been able to say. If it isn't understood what leg does anyone have to stand on and judge? It makes no sense.

Christianity EtcRe: Stop And Think ,how Can God Exist And We Are Here Arguing Over It ? by MadMax1(f): 11:34am On Sep 10, 2009
Will you guys quit already? How many bleeding times are you going to have this argument? If you know God exists then, for you, he does;if you think he doesn't,in the absence of proof, you're entirely justified in not believing. Why should anyone be expected to take someone else's word for the existence of God?  And frankly the burden of proof rests on we who say he exists.Even religious experiences can be a minefield if one isn't careful. The mind is little undestood and some 'visions'and 'voices'ascribed to the divine is simply the mind doing its own thing. A synapsis misfires and we think we've been visited by God.

Mazaje, most of us were exposed to the crude, clumsy, but sincerely felt Christianity Nigerians hold dear.We were all indoctrinated as kids.Being disgusted with the illogic you find in the Bible is not proof that God doesn't exist. Jews wrote the O.T. They're free to put whatever they like in it.I remember reading, was it Deutoronomy, and suddenly being irritated by all the rules and a God who had 'time' to go into the smallest and most insignificant details about every bleeding aspect of their lives. It seemed petty and freakishly controlling. I did a little research on that book (I'll confirm if it's Deuteronomy) and what do you know? A very pious king, I think it was Josiah, who loved God wanted various social and religious reforms carried out in Israel during his reign. He'd been agitating for this and the people weren't paying attention to him. After a few years of this, a document, a lost scroll, was suddenly unearthed in Israel. It contained religious writing. But it also contained, you guessed it, ALL the social and religious reforms the King had been clamouring for  for years. To the letter! That book is Deutoronomy. The people paid attention this time. There was a religious revival and one very happy King.

The knotty parts in the Bible merely shows us for what we are; human beings with our own agenda. In no way does the Bible
or anything human beings do invalidate God.
