Christianity EtcRe: Could It Really Be That A Person Can Be Born Gay? by MadMax1(f): 10:49am On Sep 09, 2009

You can be born male born female born with sickle cell HIV cerebal palsy etc but how do u know u were born gay?You were not born gay, being gay is just a state of mind.
Interesting theory, Dr  Freud. Can you prove it? A gay state of mind. So one can change one's mind then? Because, naturally, being straight would have to be a state of mind as well. Which means I can go shopping? Decide to be gay today, straight tomorrow?

Trekkie, I mentioned necrophilia in the same breath as child molesting to indicate people can be deviant and still fall within the gay, straight or bi category. People go to jail for stuff like that, where sex in nonconsensual or traumatises another. You can't lump being gay in the group; it'll be like putting being straight there as well. Lol you didn't choose to be straight when you turned down someone's advances! You turned it down cos your sexual orientations didn't match. I truly don't understand it. I have gay friends and none of them were abused. One says he actually tried going out with girls, forcing himself to be attracted, but it didn't work. It's the same as a straight person forcing himself to be gay to conform to preconceived ideas on what his sexual orientation should be. The bible condemns it. I want to know WHY it's wrong. I don't think there's a gay gene, but it hasn' t been proven to be a choice either. If a child is brutally raped and grows to develop psychosexual problems and can't bear to have men touch her, but prefers a woman's non-threatening advances, would you say that person has 'chosen' to be gay? It isn't a typical example; most gay people found themselves gay just as we found ourselves straight. If sexual orientation is determined to be inherent at the end of the day, if gay people were 'created' that way, as we smugly assume straight people are, how would you come to terms with the bible's condemnation of it?

@ebumowa
I have a perv of a friend who finds gay women 'hot' lol. Unlike me, he has no religious constraints.I'm sorry if this seems intrusive, but have you ever been attracted to a man AT ALL? During you ever try dating 'straight' guys, you know, during those self-hating years?
LiteratureRe: Why Women Make Better Writers: by MadMax1(f): 9:39pm On Sep 08, 2009
aasog:
I have never been published, but I am currently passing my work through three international editors. 2 women, and one male.
The women are wonderful writers, one published, the other aspiring; but they tend to over-color a scenery or imagery with too much emotion to a point of trivilization.Most men I know are rather vividly poor or good. Dean Koontz is spooky. James Patterson is Funky. Jonathan Kellerman is Twisted. John Grishman is too unrealistic, yet very entertaining. Lawrence Sanders is too Sleeky. Robert B. Parker, too suave, yet Indepthful. John Sandford, too wack.When it comes to the female, I swear I have tried very hard to get pass the first 10 chapters and try to pretend im reading a male work, but they keep choking me with these innuedos and exaggeratde use of pathos and feelings. Only Barbara Delinsky seems to have done something most havent accomplished. Even Nora Roberts didnt pass this hard test. I wish someone here could recommend some great female writers. So far, I can only scratch my head while I frown. And please dont mention J.K. Rowlings!
Why shouldn't they mention J'K Rawlings? Isn't she a good female writer? Writing abilities have no gender huh. People complain about female writers being mushy; but that's because the mentioned writers write romance. Your language is depends on what kind of book you're writing. You can't read romance after romance and complain of emotional language or whatever.There are thrillers, horror, espionage,war, fantasy, science fiction, westerns, adventure, romance, but people are talking of female romance writers as if romance is the only genre in which women write. There are female Nobel, booker and pulitzer prize winners,are they writing romance and mushy novels? For commerical fiction there's Anne Rice, Patricia Cornwell, P.D James, and many many other quality women writers.

How can you put that 'angry' face there with a straight face? The thing always makes me laugh. No be you waka? Did you say you'd seen only two Shaylaman movies, and The Sixth Sense wasn't one? shocked That's one of the best movies of the last decade. Everything was almost perfect, Spikie. You MUST see Haley Osment's performance.

bawomolo:
would you date a bi chick?and don't lie sucker.
Man, you're funny. grin

@trekkie
Is sexual orientation acquired or inherent?I don't know much about it. But I don't see why every response to issues must be religious and nothing else, people decreeing "The bible says," and adding nothing else, no objections outside and apart from that. And comparing being gay to child molesting; I don't get that?  huh  It's not the same thing at all.A child molester has sex with a child, a non-adult who doesn't have the power of consent. That's why child molesters go to prison for their crime and gays do not. There are straights, gays and bisexuals; any category may molest a child. There are necrophiles, those who're only aroused by a corpse, there are those who're only turned on by being shat on; however deviant, they're ALL either straight, gay or bi. You talk as if you're sure homosexuality is a choice, and heterosexuality is a choice. How do you know they are? Did you choose to be straight? When?

I think you would have had of Anonymizers before?
Any I.P address can be made to come from anywhere, its a question of choosing your Server.
What if, (like some foreigners prefer to use Nigerian Passports to commit crime) some of these scammers ain't even Nigerians but "anonymize" as if from Nigeria?In this modern times, 99.99% of origin means nothing, in real terms.
So right. Criminals with fake Nigerian passports were rampant in the 90s; Africans and black nationals of foreign countries. If people can go as far as getting Nigerian passports to hide behind,imagine the opportunities the internet affords them. These people are not stupid. You'd be amazed at what Indian and American hackers get up to;apart from designing viruses that crash millions of computers worldwide just for the hell of it,they break codes  and pull off smart, sophisticated cybercrimes.

Yes, we have a real problem with scammers at cybercafes, and we have bad government.But there are governments more corrupt than Nigeria's (YES!), inhuman institutions that terrorize,disposses and murder its citizens on a large scale.The problem is, the world has acquired a taste for bad press  about Nigeria. It's the crimes Nigerians commit that sells copy, and so they get constant publicity,over and over until it seems we're the most criminal and terrible people on earth. You find people who've never met a single Nigerian hating Nigerians and all they stand for. And yet Nigerians are no worse and no better than any other group of humans on earth. There are criminal elements everywhere, in every country. It's absurd to suggest an entire country is dishonest merely because they're 'Nigerian'.

The ad is a cheap attempt by SONY to tap into the current of paranoia and hatred for Nigerians simply to sell  a product. SONY insults an entire country and calls Nigerians criminals. The rest of the world is supposed to say 'Oh yeah.Horrible people. I dig that, SONY. I'm rushing out to buy a PS3'. It's a marketing startegy that reinforces negative stereotypes about Nigerians and strengthens ill feeling towards them. We want our problems to end,we want people to stop treating us like shit. But ads like that only make things worse.

There are Nigerians who have done great things. We have booker prize winners, Pulitzer prize winners, Nobel Prize winners.There are brilliant Nigerian scholars in universities all over the world.  Nigerians have distinguished themselves internationally in every field from medicine to sports to science. We have outstanding Nigerians at NASA, at WHO, at the World Bank, in the United Nations. I heard they called in a Nigerian chemist during, was it  Chernobyl? To imply that the majority of a hundred and fifty million people are dishonest merely because they're Nigerian is absurd to an extreme.For SONY to insult them all as a marketing strategy is insanely irresponsible. Even worse is to applaud this and imply we're all dishonest and 'deserve' to be insulted and negative ideas about us perpertuated by a global company.

PS3 is kickass, and Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3 is THE ultimate gaming experience.But that ad is the sort of thing that makes people feel they're right to be paranoid and distrustful of Nigerians. It's doesn't solve our problems, it's mischevous and in extremely bad taste.
PoliticsRe: Federal Govt Please Stop Sony Entertainment. by MadMax1(f): 5:05pm On Sep 05, 2009
haduwa:
The TRUTH of the matter is that the AD was a very in-appropriate one,
We all might not be able to understand the STIGMA of this AD, but for the ones that leave outside the country you might understand abit of it,
When you are in NIJA the majority of the people around you are Nijas so it doesnt matter,
I might have to bow my head in shame when i get to work and a collegue of mine (WHOE MIGHT BE WHITE SKINNED OR FROM A DIFF COUNTRY) is asking me if i had seen the sony AD, or if i wanted a SONY GIFT,
The AD is very very offensive and i must say Nijas are BABIESIN SCAMMING, there are a whole loads of countires out there that do better in hacking than the best SCAMMER in Nija,
Recently i had my yahoo email hacked just because i went to use to cafe nearby the salon i was in and the hacker not only kep checkin my emails but also changed my password and i no longer have access to the email i have been using for almost 8years,
I know Nijas sebd emails and what not but d, n!!! we are not the only country i bet some of you know one of the Asian countries are gurus in this thing,
Recently i had an ASSUIE ask me why i should complain about my email been hacked that i am a Nigerian i should be used to it, the good thing was that i HAVE IT BACK TO HIM HOT, wink
If their sales are dropping mentioning somthing about Nigerians wouldnt boost it either and like somone mention, SONY VAIO is the WORST laptop ever made sohuh??
Its a big dissapointment to sony,
Anyway sha what can we do as Nijas embarassed
So right on. You need to see what Asians and Europeans and Americans can do online. They're slick, sophisticated and quiet. A Nigerian working at the UN had his email hijacked like yours and his password changed; the scammer then sent emails fom his account to all his contacts making up a story and asking for money, in the guy's name. It was unusual but most of them complied. Imagine the horrible embarrassment when the guy found out about the money thing. But you won't hear about stuff like it because its only Bad Nigeria that sells copy.Nigerians are overseas and they have to deal with the fallout of irresponsbile adverts like this that reinforce negative stereotyping of Nigerians. Is the line about Nigerian millionaires supposed to make you rush out and buy a SONY PS3? What's its use? All it does is reinforce a We Vs Them mentality against Nigerians,because since we're the butt of the insult, the ad is for the rest of the world to enjoy.

@thaba83
The advert is very insulting, man. And are movies the same as adverts? Nigerians were portrayed unflatteringly in District 9; did we bawl for Blomkamp's head? And who told you Italians don't protest being stereotyped as seedy Mafioso types all the time? They screamed blue murder with The Sopranos. The country portrayed in BORAT almost burst a gut, they were so pissed. It's only in Nigeria that a country's the object of a snide, damaging ad and you see Nigerians applauding it.

Must you throw insults just because you want to pass across a comment? If I ply insults back as an exchange, can you stand the heat? undecidedGive me the justification for having corrupt Government? Give me the justification for having yahoo yahoo on the rise? Give me the justification for Sony not to talk about what is wrong in a nation that cannot do what is right?
Oya no vex. But SONY's advert and your govt's corruption are two different things. No denying there's a problem, but it's laughable to appoint SONY s our conscience, especially when it's taken no such role upon itself. The ad is offensive and it's absolutely the first time a country would be blatantly insulted that way. We're not the only coutry with criminals and scammers. But we're the most publicised one. Deal with the criminals, but don't insult the entire country and lump them together as rogues. No self-respecting country will take that kind of treatment and no self-respecting citizen would expect that it should. We ourselves have read so much about the evil Nigerians do, like we own the patent on social ills, we're beginning to believe all the bad press and have such a low opinion of ourselves and the country we think it's all right for a global company to publicly insult us. That's part of the problem. It's just plain wrong.

PoliticsRe: Federal Govt Please Stop Sony Entertainment. by MadMax1(f): 11:17am On Sep 05, 2009
What silliness, what rot. Get it into your daft, self-immolating skull that SONY had no right to insult an entire country, irrespective of what its govt does. Nigerians live in other countries and it doesn't help that horrible misconceptiions about us are stamped into their minds before any of them even meets a single Nigerian. Image is everything. Perception is reality. There simply is no justifying SONY's actions and it's disgraceful to have Nigerians gleefully applaud this and rant about 'corrupt' govt.You can protest and clean up at home and still protect your image overseas and Nigerians abroad, you know.
PoliticsRe: Fg Moves Against Sony by MadMax1(f): 11:07am On Sep 05, 2009
Incredible insult. About time they respond. One wishes the letter didn't read so illiterate, though. They should raise a holy stink until the ad is pulled and threaten to drag SONY to court. I don't know what having a corrupt govt has to do with a global corporation insulting an entire country.

PoliticsRe: Federal Govt Please Stop Sony Entertainment. by MadMax1(f): 10:48am On Sep 05, 2009
So if a powerful conglomerate with a huge presence insults Nigerians, because our leaders are irresponsible and scammers send out feelers via the net, we should take it as our due and not complain? Do you have any idea how incredibly insulting that advert is? Can you find any kind of precedent for it anywhere? They dare because they know Nigeria is now the world's target board for ridicule. There are a hundred and fifty million Nigerians. How many of them are scammers? Fifty per cent? Twenty? Ten percent? And yet, everyone, from the struggling immigrant to old folks in the village, are lumped together and tarred with the same brush. It is not that Nigeria has worse cybercrime than other countries; you'd be amazed at what Asia and the United States pull off. It's that Nigeria is good fodder for dislike, and internatinal media has focused on and fanned this dislike for ages. Nobody wants to hear about a Malaysian scammer who stripped someone of millions, or a hacker who stole thousands of dollars via identity theft. But if it's a Nigerian, it's immediate front news. They love to hate us.

It's an insult to honest hardworking Nigerians, who are the majority by far, to imply 'we' brought the ad upon ourselves in any way, that is 'our' fault and we should swallow it like bitter medicine. If the Nigerian Govt has an iota of shame they would immediately demand an apology from SONY and insist that the ad be removed. The SA movie District 9 was insulting to Nigerians as well. An avalanche of humiliation seems to be coming and we do NOT deserve it. These things make life difficult for Nigerians who have to truck with other nationals. Corruption in govt is one thing. Insulting a country blatantly in the eyes of the world is another and its govt being corrupt is a silly rationalization. Every country has problems. Yes, we have a problem with scammers,.and lazy youths who who want it all without working for it. But these emails are silly. The only way you can taken in by them is if you want to be taken in. Europeans and Asians are far more more sophisticated frauds. They should stop humiliating us because of the actions of a few.
Christianity EtcRe: Could It Really Be That A Person Can Be Born Gay? by MadMax1(f): 12:31am On Sep 05, 2009
I get why the Bible condemns adultery and unmarried sex; I don't get homosexuality. HOW and WHY is homosexuality a sin? I see no commandment that insists Thou shalt be attracted only to a man if thou art a wench. It's been around as long as man. There doesn't appear to be any objections outside of the Bible, something that shows the dangers of homosexuality, if there's any. The bible doesn't like it is a pretty vague and inadequate objection, especially since not everyone believes in the Bible or lives by it, however much we would like to shove our standards and values down others' throats. Is it innate, is it acquired? No one is sure. I heard something about a gay gene,but scientists have gone gene mad and there appears to be a gene for everything from waving your hands to bvrushing yout teeth. A gay gene is unconvincing, but what if it were proven beyond a doubt that sexual preference can be BOTH acquired and innate? What about married gay couples? Have they sinned?

I'm not saying the Bible doesn't condemn it; it does. But do gay people 'choose' to be gay? No more than we 'chose' to be straight, I don't think. I'm not sure any conscious decision-making is factored into being gay and one can't counter something as complex and powerful as human sexuality with 'It's a sin.'

What it's about? Crap mostly. Humanity is being compelled to commit mass suicide by plants, who perceive the environment-murdering humans a threat and release air-borne toxins that makes them end their lives. Rubbish. I skimmed through after 20 minutes and was really anoyed by the end. Steer clear. The Village is better than this, however flawed it still furnished some good performances and I really like Joaquin Phoenix and the love story central to its themes. Shaylaman was frozen by the stunning success of The Sixth Sense and thought he was forever obligated to deliver surprise endings.

I might. Was watching The Happening, only because M. Night Shaylaman wrote and directed it, and I liked The Sixth Sense and The Village, because of Phoenix. The Happening is quite possibly the worst movie I've seen this year, but it may be oldie. Bad acting, bad directing,bad dialogue delivery, weak plot and structural weaknesses by the gallon. He's no Ang Lee. I'm staying away from anything of his for a while.

Who said that? Let me guess: Nietzsche? tongue

Why so smug? Some people are non-conformist. Doesn't have to be in some absurdly pretentious, ridiculously showy way like, Look at me I don't conform,yeah! Mother Theresa's a non-conformist. As is Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar, the democracy icon that's been under house arrest for two decades. There are non-conformists and they're the ones who turn the world upsidedown every so often.

Who claimed noncomformism in the movie? Cruz and Bardem didn't seek being a 'triple' and they weren't advocating it; it just happened and they realised it was what they needed. When the magic ingredient left, and it really wasn't 'Cristina' but merely the idea of her, they reverted back to what they were.
