TV/MoviesRe: What Series Are You Watching Now? by MadMax1(f): 1:25pm On Nov 13, 2008
What is it with people and this 24 sef? If someone isn't crowing about 24 in my house,it's Prisonbreak. I got 24 on DVD Season 1 to 4. One was good, though there were a lot of unlikely coincidences. Two was good,if two is where that American girl conspired with Arab terrorists to blow up a city. Why did that girl's fiance have to die? Ah-han. So unfair. Three okay, but four is boring me silly. Someone suggested I skip that and watch 5. That 'the odd numbers are the best'. A real 24 nut job.
TV/MoviesRe: Who's The Best James Bond And Who's The Worst? by MadMax1(op): 1:00pm On Nov 13, 2008
Vesper didn't have to save his life, but she did. She promised to return the money Bond won in exchange for his life. And she went on to date him AFTER she had the code to the money. So she loved him. Interestingly she didn't bargain for her life, just Bond's. Which means she considered his life more important than hers, which means she loved him. So they were going to kill her after she handed over the money. She decided to beat them to it by offing herself.

Began Quantum of Solace, but left while they had Mr White out of the boot and M was talking to him. They broke the mold and the routine of Bond films with Casino Royale. They re-invented the franchise. One would expect them to keep this up and not revert to the ingredients they'd used in 22 other Bond movies; action overkill. I left cause I was afraid this might be the case. But I will definitely be watching it today.

iice you cannot seriously mean that! What do they see in Brad Pitt! If you've never seen Legends of the Fall, it's understandable. The guy is not only a woman magnet,he's a genuinely nice fella. I read someplace he has slept with every single leading lady in his movies. Every single one. They can't help themseves. If it you were a leading lady in one of his movies when he was single I bet you'd be singing a different tune.

Cameron Diaz the worst actress in the world? Hehe.
PoliticsRe: Police Beat Journalist To Coma With Horsewhips by MadMax1(f): 12:04pm On Nov 13, 2008
Don't worry, they're only beating Naval officers children and journalists for now. E never reach engineer side.

Abuse happens everywhere,in every country. Curbing it depends on the FUNCTIONAL mechanisms citizens and government have put in place to check excesses: like a probe, and jail if found guilty. Nothing like that here.

But if a policeman assaults you here, make sure you memorise the name and number on his tag,and get a lawyer, sue. There are NGOs that offer law services pro bono in the country. At the very least that policeman would be demoted,or lose his job. Don't let them get away with it.

She used to date her FRIENDS co-star! I had no idea! If her movies weren't so hit or miss she'd have moved on,but she needs to be in the public eye and this seems to be the only thing she and her publicist can manage.Silly. And she was dating Vince Vaughn at the time too o.Is it me or does that guy rehash the same character in virtually every movie he appears in?

Tilda isn't going away any time soon,it seems. She's in a relationship with a 29 year old and people are arching their brows and saying Naughty Naughty, merely because the older person in the relationship happens to be a woman.Double standars are here to stay. Check her guys out.

I cannot believe I did HOUSE wrong. Hugh Laurie totally got on my nerves until mid-way through Sseason 1, and then I was hooked. He's incredibly witty. Stronger medicine than Grey's,but Grey explores the human drama to the tilt,as well the personal lives of the docs, but with House it's mad diagnosics, and he's the character all others revolve around. Great series. Just finished Season 2 on DVD and searching for 3.

Who could this be? Surely not Tilda! Forgot her White Witch in Narnia. Lovely. And I take it back; the woman's beautiful in a porcelain-skinned,otherworldly kind of way.

Just saw some shitty piece where Jennifer Aniston 'breaks her silence' on how Jolie stole her husband. Manipulative, silly interview. Her marriage was over, she and Pitt were already separated and announced they were getting a divorce when he met Jolie. Now she's sniffling and acting injured.Pitt wanted Kids, she wanted a career, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it turns out Pitt is the old-fashioned family kind and got what he wanted in Jolie. But Aniston says, while Jolie is @$#%$^&!, she still cares 'very very deeply about Pitt.' I don't follow celebrity gossip, but her snivelling tone caught my attention. Let her lick her wounds instead of moving on with her life. Divorce happens. It's Hollywood. I'm on Jolie's side because they're both happy, are adopting like crazy and colour is no barrier, and she's Tomb Raider, my fav console game.

Sure. They could be twins. Could be she isn't toeing the I must Be Sexy line 'cause she couldn't be sexy to save her life. I don't know much about her and would have gone on only seeing her from the corner of my eye if she hadn't won the,er,um,oscar.

@Karma,
So they didn't give Jackson the danged tin man for Pulp Fiction. tongue Get over it already and leave Blood Diamond out of it. Sure the movie's flawed. But DiCaprio's performance was flawless. kiss

Vesc I got what you meant. The guy cannot point to another movie he was terrific in to save his life. And don't nobody say Dreamgirls! Eddy Murphy's was the only real acting there.
HealthRe: Marriage And The Sickle Cell Genotype Issue by MadMax1(f): 3:19pm On Nov 08, 2008
I lost TWO younger ones to SSS. The rest of us are AS and AA. If you have never lived with someone who has the disorder, you cannot,by any stretch of the imagination, understand the horor that is their life, and the horrendous, unbearable anguish that comes from loving them for many years, only to lose them without warning. My siblings went through experiences no one should have to go through, and the pain would be so bad atimes the rest of us would be weeping and begging the doctors to 'do something'. I slept with them in hospitals, and would sometimes take my work there and finish it there. Blood transfusions galore. Apart from the pain they go through, imagine the psychological torment of having a death sentence hanging over your head, the fact that you might have a lot of dreams but it's unlikely you will live to see any fulfilled, the fact that you can have that Final Crisis that will end your life at ANY time. No one should have to live like that. It is horrible and very very very unfair to them.

75% are pretty good odds, but I'm not sure it's accurate. I think it might be higher. And there are AS/AS who do not have SSS children, who got lucky. It's their choice to make, if they wish to marry. But no one has the right to bring a child into the world that would undergo such torment. If there are ways to detect it and abort the foetus,so be it. IF that's available, then it should take care of that 25% that might crop up.

He-yahhhh.
I saw her on some wicked website where they'd gotten pictures of Hollywood celebrities without a stitch of make-up on. They got Julia Roberts at a mart, Naomi Watts on the street, so many others. Some looked okay with no make-up. Some looked better with no make up. Longoria looked like a drowned rat. But by far the worst looking without make-up was Julia Roberts.

She's one of my best and closest friends, and we talk about everything.
She constantly encourages me to give my all and be all that I can be. I love that she's always had high expectations of me.
She's very direct and takes no BS.
She's funny, a real drama queen.
She can give and has given and sacrificed a lot for all of us, and I love her beyond anything I can describe. I like her simple, unwavering faith in God.
Her warm heart and her kindness.
There's no way to descibe her that'll capture who she is, and I won't try. But she is the BEST mother there is.

PoliticsRe: Naval Officers Beat Up A Lady And Stripped Her - Watch Video by MadMax1(f): 1:26pm On Nov 08, 2008
Which kain story are they manufacturing now? Awon were beat up a lady, and because wind don blow now, she is the one at fault. First she brought out a whip. Which kain whip?A lady going someplace with two pregnant ladies? So she knew she would encounter a navy convoy and brought a whip along. To whip who? Who goes about with a whip in their car? Senseless liars. Then she was the one who attacked. Then the wrong side of the road. Perhaps she might have said something saucy. But beat her in public because of that? They've been doing it with impunity before. They would have gotten away with it as usual if she hadn't been the daughter of 'somebody'.

I was driving to Lagos from Ibadan a long time ago, and there was a hold up near RCCG's church grounds. One commercial driver did not allow a private car to overtake him. I was in the next lane and watched their overtaking antics with amusement initially, thinking,Men and competition on the road. But because the commercial driver did not allow the private car, which had OBAT something on the plate I recall,to overtake, they pulled up,blocked the bus door, and two guys came out and descended on the driver and beat the hell out of him. They must have been private bodyguards to some big man in the car. Then they went back into their car and took off, leaving the driver senseless on the road.

And that was a private citizen. Any taste of power in this country and the next thing is to think civil laws no longer apply to you, and to make life miserable for those not as privileged or 'important' as you. There is no functioning system in place to curb and check these excesses, because the ones who are supposed to put the caution sytems in place are the one engaged in these and other excesses.

100 million is too small. Something really punitive. And she should've sued BOTH the Navy and the yeye Arogundade,so punitive damages can be awarded against his person, instead of just the navy. If the Navy doles out the money, how has the man himself been punished?

Really weird. grin But then, it's iice.

Depp. Sorry, ehn. They will still give your man an Oscar one of these days, and it shouldn't be too long,or it would turn from injustice to something else. I hope Depp doesn't measure his talent by whether he gets an Oscar or not. It's great to be recognised with an award, but it's not your fault if the judges are all idiots. He's supremely gifted, and doesn't need an Oscar win to know that. Same for DiCaprio, who keeps surprising me. My jaw dropped when he spoke pidgin in Blood Diamond, and he got the South/East African pidgin accent correct.

Something to make your heart beat a little faster.

Christianity EtcRe: Why Did God Plant That Tree In Garden When He Knows Man Will Eat It.pls answer by MadMax1(f): 11:05am On Nov 08, 2008
You propose we go to God and ask? He gave us the facility to ask questions and to reason and to make choices, not believe everything we're told blindly and foolishly, without asking questions. He said 'Come, let us reason together.'  Add  some reasoning to your faith. I promise it won't hurt. tongue
Christianity EtcRe: Why Did God Plant That Tree In Garden When He Knows Man Will Eat It.pls answer by MadMax1(f): 10:54am On Nov 08, 2008
@Richyblack
You're right, I think.I wondered the same some years back.

It appears that free will is one of the strongest principles that undergirds God's created universe, and it is revealing to realise that every single creature in heaven(Angels and  other creatures we know nothing about because they had no commerce with man and so weren't mentioned in the Bible)every single one of those creatures choose God. They are with God of their own free will, and remain with God of their own free will. If they didn't have free will one of them couldn't have rebelled, and a third of the angels in heaven wouldn't have chosen Satan over God.

I wondered at one time, Why did God create Satan in the first place, knowing that he would rebel and consequently be thrown to earth and cause mankind great suffering? So sending Christ was a panacea to a headache God created in the first place. And then I understood about choices and free will, and the fact he did not create the Devil,he created Lucifer, just like he created Jesus, called the first born because he was the very first creature God made, and so was present at every other thing that was made, and perhaps even did some creating himself, since God said 'Let us make man,' and not, 'Let me make man.' He created Lucifer and Lucifer rebelled, and to rebel was only one of several choices Lucifer could have made. If God 'knew' Adam would rebel and not choose him,and that mankind would reject him, why did he create man? And why was He distressed when man choose evil?

You are the sum of all the choices you have ever made in your life, which school you chose to attend, which job you chose to apply for, whom you choose to marry (a choice entirely ours;it's the greatest absurdity to say God told you to go and marry so-so,even if you aren't remotely attracted to that person and don't love them), there are so many roads and they lead to different places, and so 'the future' is in a state of flux,it's not rigid,it depends on your choices. So I still don't get how God can know our choices in advance, and I begin to suspect that He does NOT. At least, not at the beginning. But now he knows our natures and can predict what each individual would do with a great degree of accuracy.

He hadn't created Angels with free will before, and so had no way of predicting the choices they would make. Just like He hadn't created Adam (Man)before, and so couldn't predict their choices, but He certainly hoped for the best from his creation. NOW of course,he can predict man's choices, because he knows our nature now, after thousands of years, and he certainly can predict the choices of the creatures in heaven, knowing each individual's personality. But in the two beginnings, I conjecture, He had no way of knowing Lucifer would rebel, since he was an early creation whose nature he wasn't familiar with, and no way of knowing for sure Adam would rebel, since he didn't know the newly created man very well either. You don't know what a stranger would do,under a given set of circumstances, but you can predict what your brother or father or sister might do under the same set of circumstances.

One might also wonder why, when Job was going about minding his own business, God says to the Devil, Have you seen my servant Job?,and the race was on to see whom Job would choose  to listen to,believe and follow, of his own free will. Essentially the same thing happened with Adam and Eve and the tree, which wasn't just a tree, and the same thing happens now with us,every individual one of us, only our trees are different.

We have free will. And a myriad of choices. Now he says preach the gospel so men might choose to believe and follow Christ.

Anyways, that's just my conjecture.

Are you talking about the movies themselves,in which case I prefer FG, if I cant have both, since they're both freaking good films, or the performances of Jackson and Hanks? The oscar shoulda gone to Hanks and it did. You don't have to like the movie to see what he pulled off there. You're just Royale-ly pissed Jackson didn't get it.

The great thing is,the lady didn't go home and lick her wounds. She sought justice for herself. Be it police, navy, army, politician, no one has the right to treat you like an animal. If more and more people don't stand for it,they'll make scapegoats of the rotten eggs. Pretty soon, fear of the conseqences and public exposure will deter these psychotic creeps in uniform.
